The mayor has found on old camera on the attic and decides to make a movie, so he starts looking for actors. Everybody turns up for the auditions, wearing costumes fitting characters each would like to star as. But most auditions go badly and cause bitterness all around. The winners, just for being last to turn up, are casted in the leads, a cat chasing a mouse. Alas, the recording sessions in Gert's home and the shop cause more havoc, rubbish and grieve.

In the mayor's absence, peacock-proud loco Van Leemhuizen decides to replace the usual dreary child books reading with an ambitious sea lion show. Alas, the artists he booked couldn't understand his directions, so instead of the town hall the arrive at Alberto's hair salon. There haughty mother Van Zul dumped on him her four brat daughters, who make havoc, so entertainment comes handy. Van Leemhuizen tries to fill in for the artists in a sea lion suit, with Gert acting as his trainer and Samson as MC.

Gert and Samson prepare to collect money for Marlene's ballet school. They have to postpone their operation when the mayor arrives with the De Bolles to practice their circus-like act for the same charity at Gert's, yet forbidding the host to watch their 'surprise act'. In fact they bicker endlessly over the name, then bumble on until the mayor is injured and Gert's home damaged.

When Samson won't accept Gert changes the menu from spaghetti, as promised but also served by Marlène, to sausage, Samson refuses to join him shopping and is told to come round or move. Van Leemhuyzen enjoys the mayor's absence and decides to play cowboy and Indian in the town hall, so he gets Samson to come play along. On his return home, already having bought spaghetti to make up, Gert thinks his dog has angrily run away.

Jeanine weeps childishly-inconsolably after her childhood rag-doll is ruined by clumsy son Octaaf and the mayor. The friends try everything, including culprits kicking each-other in the pants, but even the (few) good jokes only interrupt the wailing shortly as long as the wretched things is bust.

To test whether Van Leemhuizen made sufficient progress in a first aid course imposed on every municipality, the mayor asks Albert and both De Bolle's to pretend being gravely ill. They overdo it and the mayor fails to tell others, so when Gert reports there self-painted spots and unconsciousness, Doctor Geniaal deploys the real emergency plan.

Gert invites Alberto and Van Leemhuyzen for a surprise dinner. It's fresh oxtail soup, but Alberto 'tastes' so generously there's none left for he others, who must do with tinned soup. As the glutton dozes away, the others think up a revenge. Alberto is fitted with an 'ox-tail' and Van Leemhuyzen dresses up as a doctor who will amputate it.

The mayor has caught an ordinary spider, hoping to impress his animals-obsessed visiting colleague Guido Beestjes, who brings a tarantula. Gert isn't amused when the mayor enjoys scaring everybody with his spider in a jar and thinks of a revenge. Alberyo dresses as a giant 'spaghetti spider' which scares the mayor witless. Beestjes, to whom he brags about it, however not only insists to visit but even to capture the specimen.

The mayor is bored and decides to start a pet shop in the town hall. His collection of three ordinary animals meets only ridicule, so a plan is hatched for Gert, Alberto and the De Bolles to dress up as exotic animals. Actual sales were to be prevented by fixing a ludicrous &,000,000 Belgian francs price, but a millionaire turns up who isn't daunted by it.

Van Leemhuizen and Octaaf return after an Austrian langlauf holiday wearing plaster casks. Alberto brags he can do that much better supposing he can't be tested because there is no snow. But Van Leemhuizen builds an artificial brushes track, so Gert can launch a dare. Other bragger Octaaf becomes Alberto's coach. Realizing Gert is going to win, Octaaf tries cheating by making race judge Samson believe Alberto just finished a lap each time Samson is distracted.

Alberto is excited about his new client, millionaire Van Den Donder. Boaster Octaaf claims to have finished 'the greatest invention ever', a multi-purpose domotics remote control device, called the Octaver. Gert likes it enough to allow the prototype to remain in his home to be inspected by a potential buyer. Alberto convinces Octaaf to make a version for his saloon, to impress the millionaire. But the devices get switched, so pushing the buttons causes disastrous manipulations.

Gert, Van Leemhuyzen and Octaaf ridicule Alberto for claiming he will become a superstar as opera singer. Then the allegedly famous US impresario John Castleman arrives and promises to make Alberto's career if he signs a blank contract. Octaaf changes his tune when offered to join the tour of America as star's assistant, and later even Gert as dresser. All three are in for disillusionment.

Gert wants to buy his lover Marlène an expensive neck-lace, but hasn't got enough money. The mayor, Van Leemhuizen and Octaaf planned to go camping for two weeks to be rid of their housekeeper, wife and mother's nasty nagging, but forgot to reserve in the only camping the mayor considers good enough. So Gert offers to let them camp in his living-room. As dining is crucial for the guests, Gert must cook, but that proves frustrating for all of them.

Gert is annoyed that his TV set is broken down as he wants to watch his favorite quiz show. Octaaf is depressed when Gert first ridicules him, then the national studio refuses his candidature. The mayor, who was playing with Alberto presenting programs on a fake channel, feels Gert needs a lesson, so the bunch offers a TV set they can trick. But the klutzes are easily found out.

The mayor hosts the annual costume-ball in the town hall, but bores first the jury, then the contesters with endless rules readings. For chocolate, Alberto, who looked forward to entering in a grand royal uniform, accept to help Octaaf make publicity for a new lemonade dressed as bottles, but gets stuck in his costume. Samson slips out from the party to go look for him, and suggests an original costume may stand a chance too, while the jury scorns competitors who didn't change costume for years.

The orphanage needs to be repainted. The donors the mayor counted on just spend their money on the fun fair, including champion boxer Tuur Blaffe. The inexperienced mayor naively announces he'll box any challenger. When he loses his nerve, Gert sets up a scam with voluntary losers, supposed to scare off real challengers, but that doesn't work on Tuur, who is however eliminated in a surprising way.

Albert is deeply depressed after his uncle Roberto made fun of him being a bachelor at his age. Inspired by the Cinderella fairytale, Gert organizes a ball for all town ladies in 'dream prince' Alberto's name. The bachelor mayor is jealous not to be invited, but Van Leemhuyzen thinks of cross-dressing. Alas, their expectation don't match the women's.

Gert and Alberto, who thus lost his only customer, are mad at the mayor because the municipal road works cause so much mud everybody's trousers get drenched. For Octaaf, it's an ideal occasion to present his latest 'invention', a ridiculously slow washing machine. Because the idiot used far too much soap, a flood of foam spreads over the muddy streets. Just now the ministerial delegate has arrived to test the town in a public hygiene and neatness contest. Gert organizes a foam fighting party.
