In 1998, the groundbreaking HBO series Sex and the City changed the face of TV as four successful women candidly discussed relationships, careers, dating, children, and of course, sex. Set against the backdrop of New York City, the women made a fashion statement in every episode, dazzling viewers with beautiful clothes and iconic Manolo Blahnik and Jimmy Choos shoes.
Sarah Jessica Parker led the cast as Carrie Bradshaw, a New York City columnist who openly explored her sexuality with her avid readers. She was joined by Kim Cattrall (Samantha), Kristin Davis (Charlotte), and Cynthia Nixon (Miranda) in the long-running, successful series.
Parker, who had an impressive list of film and television credits before accepting the role on Sex and the City, was thrilled to find out that Nixon, who she had known for years, would be joining her in the innovative new series.

It was 28 years ago that Jamie Lee Curtis attended the inaugural Screen Actors Guild Awards, as a nominee for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Helen Tasker in the action comedy “True Lies.” She would watch as Dianne Wiest accepted the prize for her portrayal of another Helen (Sinclair) in the gangster gag show “Bullets Over Broadway.”
Now, almost three decades later, Curtis has once again been singled out by the SAG Awards. She contends for the ensemble award as part of the cast of A24’s “Everything Everywhere All at Once.” And she has another shot at the supporting actress title for her turn as the unpitying IRS inspector Deirdre Beaubeirdre. “Everything Everywhere” holds an overwhelming lead in the Gold Derby odds for SAG’s top honor, making it almost inevitable that Curtis will become an official champion come February 26.
But can she make it two for two?...

Warning: This post contains spoilers for the series finale of Girls.
Tonight, we had to say goodbye to HBO’s Girls (sniff!) and is anyone else already missing Hannah (Lena Dunham), Marnie (Allison Williams), Shoshana (Zosia Mamet), and Jessa (Jemima Kirke)?
We caught up with creator Lena Dunham and Ep Jenni Konner — creative collaborators and spiritual sisters — to break down the series finale.
Entertainment Weekly: It must feel bittersweet to say goodbye after all this time.Lena Dunham: Jenni and I just had our seven-year anniversary! That’s a number I’m much more apt to keep track of because I’m way cheesier.

"I'm the end of the line," Arthur Miller once asserted. "Absurd and appalling as it may seem, serious New York theater has died in my lifetime."
Many might argue otherwise. In fact, the best proof that theatre is still alive and kicking is Focus on Playwrights, the new coffee-table book, the cover of which showcases the life-crinkled face that once overlooked the birth of A View from the Bridge, All My Sons, and The Crucible. Yes, photographer Susan Johann’s scintillating collection of over 90 playwrights, whom she’s shot over 20 years -- and the inclusion of sharply revealing interviews with some of the same, is the best retort to anyone ready to cremate modern drama.
Some of those captured for publications such as Vogue and the New Yorker are now deceased (e.g. August Wilson, Edward Albee, and Joe Chaikin) while others are very much functioning (e.g. David Henry Hwang,...

It’s been a little over three months since America watched Peggy Olson strut sassily down McCann Erickson's hallway, an unlit cigarette hanging from her lips and a painting of a sexually adventurous octopus tucked under her arm. But while we've all spent our summer replaying that singularly Gif-able scene and mourning the loss of Mad Men, Elisabeth Moss has already moved on: Since wrapping the hit AMC series, she's played the titular role in The Heidi Chronicles on Broadway, and has lined up no fewer than seven movies, including...

"Not too bad, if I say so myself..." If I may take a quote from this year's Best Musical winner as I went 20/24 with my predictions for this year's 2015 Tony Awards. Undoubtedly, the two big winners of the night were the musical Fun Home and the play The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, both of which took home five awards including honors for their leading men, directors, and, of course, Best Musical/Play. Right behind those two was the revival of Rodgers and Hammerstein's The King and I, which picked up four awards, including Best Revival and for their long overdue leading lady Kelli O'Hara, who easily gave the best speech of the night (including dancing off the stage). I may predicted Tony co-host Kristin Chenoweth over her, but I am so happy to be wrong. yt id="MneMh2c-y0M" width="640" And what about Chenoweth...

Jason Biggs fell victim to body-shaming – but he didn't take it lying down!
The former Orange Is the New Black actor, 36, headed to Instagram to issue a funny (and slightly Nsfw) response to a recent headline that read, "Jason Biggs Hits the Gym After Weight Gain."
The story reported that spies saw the star "sporting a paunch" (yes, the author made an American Pie joke) and said he was "getting encouragement from an instructor" at Barry's Bootcamp in Tribeca.
"Hey lay off me my coke dealer has been in prison ok?!" Biggs posted Monday beside a screen grab of the Sunday Page Six article.

Broadway has always boasted its share of stars, but this year, they seem even brighter than ever.
The nominations for the 2015 Tony Awards were revealed today, and among the luminaries receiving recognition are Bradley Cooper, Helen Mirren, Elisabeth Moss, Carey Mulligan, Ken Watanabe, and Ruth Wilson.
"An American in Paris" and "Fun Home" were the top nominated musicals, with a dozen nods each, while the two-part "Wolf Hall" was the most honored play.
One particularly notable omission was the exclusion of "Finding Neverland" from the best musical category. The high-profile show was produced by Harvey Weinstein, but some insiders have speculated that his infamously abrasive ways turned off Broadway vets.

Elisabeth Moss and Peggy Olson both lived through their twenties on Mad Men. At the beginning of each season, Moss paused to reevaluate how she would perform Peggy differently that year, taking stock of the changes a person goes through as she fumbles her way into adulthood. Ahead of Sunday night’s premiere, Moss spoke with Vulture about the traits that define Peggy — her body language and humor, her optimism and larger motivations. Moss is currently playing a slightly updated “woman in a man’s world” on Broadway in Pam MacKinnon’s production of Wendy Wasserstein’s The Heidi Chronicles. Her role as Heidi Holland dovetails nicely with her arc on Mad Men, picking up the women’s struggle just after Peggy’s time, as feminism matured into a full-fledged crusade — a movement Moss says Peggy would have been too exhausted to join.Playing Heidi, did anything strike you as...

What are we going to do when Mad Men breaks up with all of us at the end of May? They say if you love something, you should let it go, and that seems to be what Elisabeth Moss has been trying to do ever since joining the cast of The Heidi Chronicles on Broadway. At a recent 92Y panel discussion with her Heidi Chronicles cast members Jason Biggs, Bryce Pinkham, producer André Bishop, and playwright Christopher Durang, Moss waxed poetic on what it was like to miss playing Mad Men's Peggy Olson. It’s funny because I was pretty sad when we ended. Mostly and only because I liked to play that character, and I didn’t want to not play her anymore. I did a few projects afterwards, and they were all very different. Having done [The Heidi Chronicles], this was the first time and first role that I’d...

Last January, Captain America star Sebastian Stan had Sundance audiences buzzing about his dark comedy The Bronze, especially since he gets pretty damn naked in an extended (and highly flexible) sex scene. "I was a maybe too enthusiastic about it," Stan told us with a grin last night at the opening night of The Heidi Chronicles, "but I certainly, uh, brought everything I had."And then some! Stan plays a preening gymnastics coach in the film, and when he finally has his romp with Melissa Rauch's former Olympic athlete, the two of them cartwheel, leap, and pile-drive each other in the nude. "I really enjoyed the people I was working with, and when they explained to me what the scene was about, it was so funny," Stan said. "I just thought, You know what, you’ve just got to jump in the water sometimes, right? You’ve just got...

Matthew Weiner came out to support the opening of Elisabeth Moss’s Broadway play, The Heidi Chronicles, on Thursday, and he got to talking with Vulture about his love for the musical and its influence on Mad Men. “I love it, and you can see from the show how influenced I am by musicals, and how much of a fan [I am],” Weiner said. “I mean, besides doing a musical number last [season finale, "The Best Things in Life Are Free"], we’ve done a lot of musical numbers in the show,” he explained. “I’ve picked a lot of music from very famous [musicals], from Sound of Music. Hopefully from watching the show you can see that I’m not a casual fan — it’s not a casual interest in this art form,” he added. “Especially because the period where we started the show, 1960, to me, that was the golden age, and there...

You cannot look at Heidi Holland, the heroine of Wendy Wasserstein’s The Heidi Chronicles, without seeing, dimly and slightly out of phase behind her, Wasserstein herself. It’s not just the similarly twinned initials. Wasserstein was born in 1950; Heidi, to judge by the play’s internal chronology, in the same year. Both went to graduate school at Yale (Wasserstein for drama, Heidi for art history) and struggled for years with the problem of being a feminist despite a repressed, can’t-have-it-all, pre-feminist mindset. Both resolved the parenting part of that struggle belatedly and unconventionally, without a husband: Heidi at 40 by adopting a girl; Wasserstein by giving birth to one at the age of 48.We cannot know if either ever resolved the other parts of their struggle. For Wasserstein, that’s because she died, of lymphoma, at 55, a loss that inevitably haunts The Heidi Chronicles, now having its first Broadway...

If Wendy Wasserstein had lived beyond her 56 years, would she have written a sequel to “The Heidi Chronicles,” a revival of which opened Thursday at the Music Box on Broadway? The lasting power of this 1988 play is that, more than ever, we really want to know what happens to the girl Heidi Holland (Elisabeth Moss) adopts at the end of “Chronicles.” In 1988, she was just a baby. Today, she would be a 27-year-old woman. So the question looms: Would this baby grow up to be the confidently happy person Heidi never quite becomes? Or would Heidi, enduring...

In one of the lectures that open each act of The Heidi Chronicles, Elisabeth Moss as title character Heidi Holland discusses two portraits by under-appreciated female American Impressionist painters, whose subjects appear to stand apart while closely studying their surroundings. In that engaged detachment, she likens the women depicted to her own profession of art historian: "Being neither the painter, nor the casual observer, but a highly informed spectator." This key insight also defines the protagonist of Wendy Wasserstein's decades-spanning baby boomer play, an ambivalent, recessive character who remains mostly reactive until a stunning public meltdown monologue

There's nothing like a good cry.
Mad Men star Elisabeth Moss is opening up to The New York Times about her new Broadway role in the Tony and Pulitzer award-winning play The Heidi Chronicles, in which she plays art historian Heidi Holland. When discussing her successful -- yet vulnerable and self-doubting -- character, the 32-year-old actress shares that it's actually the super-emotional scenes she enjoys the most.
"I'm never happier than when I'm crying onstage," she admits. "It's super weird, and it’s what I love to do. Isn't that strange?"

In the revealing new interview, she also gets candid about her status in Hollywood, admitting that her unconventional looks automatically disqualify her from certain roles.
"I've never been the cheerleader," she says bluntly. "I've never been the girlfriend."
"We don't talk about whether or not men can have it all," she adds about the double standard for women in Hollywood. "Because they can...
