Danish filmmaker Lone Scherfig’s has a zig-zagging trajectory. Her debut "Italian for Beginners" was an inventive and populist take on the Dogme 95 manifesto via a romantic comedy which won several plaudits including the Silver Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2001. She made a few well-received films since, but it was 2009’s “An Education” that dropped the filmmaker on the global map in a big way. She stumbled with the mostly tone deaf romantic dramedy "One Day" starring Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess, but critical redemption is right around with her latest film “The Riot Club.” Formerly titled “Posh,” the movie is a scathing dissection of the British class system and centers on two young men who are inducted into the exclusive, debaucherous company of Oxford’s elite "Riot Club.” Her cast is impressive too; a who’s who of English up and comers including Sam Claflin (“Snow White and the Huntsman...

In the compelling, richly acted Lullaby, painter and sculptor Andrew Levitas writes and directs a debut film about a father’s impending death that manages to take the weight of the moment seriously and not as a simple plot tool for heightened drama. Based loosely off the events surrounding his own father’s death, Levitas takes advantage of a superb ensemble to offer a film that, while sometimes conventional and overlong, has the intimacy and intelligence of a stellar stage play. In fact, given how every other scene is in the dad’s hospital room, how the story takes place over an 18-hour period and how there are suspiciously few hospital staff around, it very well could have been staged.
Levitas’ father passed away more than a decade ago, which brought the artist time to reflect about the circumstances of his life and his father’s disease. Although he shares...

This weekend brings "The Fault In Our Stars" (our review), the twee story of two teens, with cancer, who fall in love, all while the story builds to a climax that will require you to have a box of Kleenex at your side, at the ready. But if you have some hankies left over, perhaps you can save them for "Lullaby." An ensemble of mostly people we like, the dramedy brings together Garrett Hedlund, Amy Adams, Richard Jenkins, Terrence Howard, Jennifer Hudson and Jessica Brown-Findlay for the tale of a young man, and his family, dealing with the impending death of their father. The movie, at least thus far, promises to be cutesy, manipulative, heavy, dramatic and funny but curiously, none of it looks remotely interesting. And we'd wager there's a good reason that this movie has been sitting on a shelf for a while. But hey, we're open to being pleasantly surprised,...

This exclusive clip from long awaited indie tearjerker "Lullaby" showcases the the lighter side of this emotional family tale. In "Lullaby," Garrett Hedlund -- fresh off of indie hit "Inside Llewyn Davis" -- plays Jonathan, who reconnects with his family for the worst reasons: His father, played by the iconic Richard Jenkins, is going to be removed from life support. "Lullaby" co-stars Amy Adams as Jonathan's love interest, Oscar-winner Jennifer Hudson as a no-nonsense nurse, Terrence Howard as a very personal doctor. Anne Archer and Jessica Brown-Findlay round out the rest of Jonathan's family. This clip features Brown-Findlay and Hudson engaging in some frustrated banter. The film is said to carry its heavy material with an indie feel, adding light moments to the dark story. Here, Hudson's character makes the audience smile for a second by telling off Jonathan and his sister before proudly marching down the hall. "Lullaby...

First-time director Andrew Levitas brings us this drama about a family struggling with their father’s decision to go off life support. Lullaby stars Garrett Hedlund, Amy Adams, Richard Jenkins, Terrence Howard, Jennifer Hudson and Jessica Brown-Findlay. Also: cancer. And more cancer, in the form of a little girl Garrett Hedlund’s character befriends (just how many dying characters can there be in one film?). It looks to be a relatively deft, evocative handling of the subject matter though, and with all the actors distinctly above average, could be a good watch. It should fall somewhere between The Fault in Our Stars and the Hornby adaptation A Long Way Down (about six suicidal people) on the tragi-comic-bleak scale.

Yeah, we know, we forgot about this one too. Waaaaay back in 2012 — yep, two years ago — it was announced that Garrett Hedlund, Amy Adams, Richard Jenkins, Terrence Howard, Jennifer Hudson and Jessica Brown-Findlay were making a movie called "Lullaby." Cool story bro, and like everyone else, it was wiped from our memory. Well the thing was filmed and usually, if a movie starring this kind of ensemble takes forever to arrive, and once it does, its in the hands of a tiny indie distributor, the results probably aren't so hot. And now you can judge for yourself, as the first trailer is here. Written and directed by Andrew Levitas, a producer/actor/artist making his debut behind the camera, the story follows a young man who has to bring the family together and deal with some pretty heavy issues, when his ill father asks to be taken off life support.

I shudder to think what Valentine’s date night will be like for couples who choose to see Winter’s Tale.First, they will be asked to stretch credulity past the breaking point for the sake of a fantasy premise. Then they’ll have to figure out how Colin Farrell, who was born in 1895, is still alive in 2014. Acceptance of bad-guy Russell Crowe’s Irish accent and facial scar will be easy by comparison, though when the truth about his character is revealed it will be one more obstacle for anyone attempting to swallow this indigestible stew. Whimsy should never be as heavy-handed as this. Jessica Brown-Findlay, late of Downton Abbey, is a winsome heroine in the 1916 portion of the story,...

Colin Farrell is in need of a career turnaround. After a string of misses including horror remake "Fright Night," the "Total Recall" would-be reboot, "Seven Pshychopaths" (where Farrell was dull and flat) and the mixed reviews for "Saving Mr. Banks" (not Farrell's fault), the Irish actor has "Winter's Tale" coming up February 14. But will this big-budget fantasy romance break the pattern? It's too bad so few people saw Niels Arden Oplev's grey and grainy crime romance "Dead Man Down" last year, where Farrell gave a moving performance opposite Noomi Rapace. And it's been a while since his brilliant comic turn in 2008's "In Bruges," even longer since his career-best performance in Terrence Malick's 2005 epic "The New World." He's coming up in Liv Ullman's take on Strindberg's "Miss Julie," co-starring Jessica Chastain, and "Solace," which looks like another formula thriller. A new featurette is available for "Winter's Tale," which also stars Russell Crowe,...

Warner Bros. has released a new trailer for their fantasy romance Winter's Tale. The movie was directed by Academy Award winning screenwriter Akiva Goldsman, and it stars Colin Farrell, Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connelly, and Downton Abbey‘s Jessica Brown. It's based on the novel by Mark Helprin. It looks like a really interesting story. One thing for sure is it's a beautifully shot film.
The story is set in a mythic New York City and spans more than a century. It is "a story of miracles, crossed destinies, and the age-old battle between good and evil."
Goldsman is the writer that brought us films such as Cinderella Man, The Da Vinci Code, Angels & Demons, and more. The movie is set to be released on February 14th, 2014.

Helmed by Paul McGuigan (Lucky Number Slevin), Frankenstein is the latest adaption of Mary Shelley's classic novel of danger of playing god and science gone awry. Currently in production, James McAvoy plays Victor Von Frankenstein, with Daniel Radcliffe playing his assistant Igor (the movie is said to be taking a different approach than most other adaptions, and presenting the events from Igor's point of view), and Downton Abbey's Jessica Brown Finlay as Lorelai, a circus performer who forms a close bond with Igor. The Daily Mail have scored some images from the production, giving us a good look at Radcliffe in costume. I don't think this is Igor in full costume, the lack of hump is a dead give away, because a prop wanted poster does confirm that he we will see a hunch back Igor in the movie, as well as giving us a look at McAvoy's crazed scientist.

Jessica Brown-Findlay falls in love and dies and maybe gets resurrected in her first major film role since leaving “Downton Abbey.” “Winter’s Tale,” based on the beloved Mark Halperin novel of the same name, sees Colin Farrell as a 19th Century crook who meets Brown-Findlay’s Beverly and immediately falls for her. Too bad she’s terminally [...]

Jessica Brown-Findlay regrets doing a nude scene. The former 'Downton Abbey' actress will be seen shedding her clothes in forthcoming Channel 4 fantasy drama 'Labyrinth', however, she claims that an earlier experience filming a topless sequence in 2011 film 'Albatross' was a naïve choice and she wouldn't do it again. In an interview with Radio Times magazine, she said: ''To be honest, 'Albatross' was naivety and not knowing that I could say no. I had no idea what was going to happen and thought I was going to be shot from behind. ''In 'Labyrinth', it is a very fleeting moment that we shot...

Now these are unlikely casting reports we hear today – namely, Robert Redford is in talks to join the cast of Captain America: The Winter Soldier as a “senior leadership role in S.H.I.E.L.D.” If it happens, Marvel will score big, as Redford has been sticking to acting exclusively in smaller indie films or his own directorial projects for the past few years; his last starring role in a Hollywood “mainstream” film (that he didn’t direct) was Tony Scott’s 2001 thriller, Spy Game. I never saw him as a superhero flick-actor, but, since Kevin Feige recently described The Winter Soldier as a “political thriller,” Redford should...

It’s fair to say that Sam Mendes did a pretty good job with his James Bond film. Skyfall earned rave reviews, made $1 billion at the global box office, won two Oscars, featured the first actually-popular Bond song in forever, is generally credited with re-rescuing the Bond franchise from its most recent low point, and somehow managed to introduce all the old pre-Craig tropes (Moneypenny, Q, Monty Norman’s theme, M-as-a-Man) while still feeling fresh. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Bond producers wanted to bring Mendes back for another film — or possibly two more films, since Skyfall co-writer John Logan is reportedly working on a two-film saga.

‘Revenge’ actress Emily VanCamp beat out five other leading contenders Jessica Brown Findlay, Emilia Clarke, Teresa Palmer, Imogen Poots and Alison Brie for the role of the female lead in Marvel Studios’ Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

If you remember, way, way back in October a bunch of names were said to be in the mix for the female lead in "Captain America: The Winter Soldier." Among them were "Game Of Thrones" stars Emilia Clarke, Jessica Brown-Findlay of "Downton Abbey" fame, Alison Brie, rising thesps Teresa Palmer and Imogen Poots, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead. Now, nearly three months later, the job has been filled by...none of those people... Instead, "Revenge" star Emily VanCamp has bagged the role. The actress has been steadily on the rise, mostly on TV, where she broke out in "Everwood." And while there has been some big screen work in fare like "The Ring Two," "Carriers" and the criminally underseen indie "Norman," the ABC show has put her back on the radar, and this will certainly boost her profile. As for what the role in the Marvel movie actually is, that's not clear just yet,...

While it’s typical for film franchises to keep the same stars between sequels, the big time-jump between Captain America: The First Avenger and Captain America: The Winter Soldier makes retaining the cast a trickier venture. But thanks to the power of flashbacks and “comic book science”, it’s not an entirely impossible one.
So far, Chris Evans and Sebastian Stan have been set to reprise their roles. Now, Toby Jones is joining them also. In a recent interview given to HeyUGuys.co.uk, the British actor confirmed that he’d be reprising the role of one of the villains, Arnim Zola:
“It looks like I will be,”
he responded with a smile when asked whether he’d return for The Winter Soldier. Listen for yourself what else he had to say:
In The First Avenger, Zola played a Hydra scientist who worked with the Nazis (led by the Red...

Next year brings us something new from Joanna Hogg, and something else from Danny Dyer. Irvine Welsh’s Filth will almost certainly live up to its title, but the Absolutely Fabulous film? We’ll see.
Al Pacino’s playing King Lear, and Stephen Mangan’s playing Postman Pat. Shane Meadows is making a film about the Tour de France, and Nigel Cole is making a film about an otter. Steve Coogan will be a porn baron, Bridget Jones will have a baby, Nick Frost will dance the salsa, Martin Freeman will save Santa, and Sean Bean, bless the man, will probably die.

Even with various shooting locations already reserved for early next year, Marvel’s upcoming Captain America sequel, The Winter Soldier is still in the casting loop, at least for the media.
And long before actor Frank Grillo surfaced as a new potential cast addition, a shortlist was made for the sequel’s female lead, in which five actresses – Mother of Dragons… I mean, Emilia Clarke, Jessica Brown Findlay, Teresa Palmer, Imogen Poots and Alison Brie – all of them were runners up.
However, according to the Daily Express, Jessica Brown-Findlay is the “front-runner” for the role believed to be Sharon Carter.
Weeks after the aforementioned shortlist hit the internet, reliable sources had reported that Marvel and directors’ duo Joe and Anthony Russo were strongly considering Mary Elizabeth Winstead, but the actress has since rebutted the so-called rumor on her Twitter account, as expected. Marvel's "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" is still a few months away from production, but casting rumors have continued following reports last week of five actresses vying to play Steve Rogers' love interest.
Now, Latino Review reports that "Scott Pilgrim" actress Mary Elizabeth Winstead apparently "has the most traction" with Marvel for the role.
The part is said to be that of Sharon Carter, niece of Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) in the first film. They also say that the five actresses previously mentioned - Emilia Clarke, Jessica Brown-Findlay, Teresa Palmer, Imogen Poots and Alison Brie - remain in the mix.
The site adds that the likes of Josh Holloway, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Kevin Durand will apparently be screen testing for two very physical male roles in the project.

The usual caveats are in place -- take it with a grain of salt, don't have heart palpitations and just chill. It's a rumor, but nontheless an intriguing one, so here we are, so let's toss the old ball around and see what to make of it. Remember last week when it was reported that "Game of Thrones" stars Emilia Clarke, Jessica Brown-Findlay of "Downton Abbey" fame, Teresa Palmer, Imogen Poots and Alison Brie were all in the running to be Steve Rogers' gal in "Captain America: The Winter Soldier"? Well, according to Latino Review the role is actually for Sharon Carter (niece of Peggy Carter played by Hayley Atwell in "Captain America: The First Avenger"), and that while those names are indeed on the list, it's actually Mary Elizabeth Winstead who "has the most traction" with Marvel. The actress is currently riding a huge wave of buzz for her performance in "Smashed,...

Chris Evans, you lucky bastard. The shortlist for his love interest in "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" has dropped and it's basically a list of actresses who have been the subjects of our ever unsent mash notes. Deadline reports that "Game Of Thrones" stars Emilia Clarke (you might know her as Daenerys Targaryen), Jessica Brown-Findlay of "Downton Abbey" fame, rising thesps Teresa Palmer and Imogen Poots, as well as Alison Brie of the acclaimed shows "Mad Men" and "Community" are all in the running to hang off Steve Rogers' arm. But wait—there's more. Now that Captain America has been unfrozen in contemporary times, that means he can run into any of The Avengers, and Scarlett Johansson is "in the mix" to roll with our hero in some capacity in the sequel. And considering she isn't popping up in "Iron Man 3," the move makes sense, and perhaps indicates.
