Better clear some wall space because there’s a new Halloween poster from celebrated artist Tyler Stout on the way. The 24″ x 36″ 4-color screenprint pays tribute to John Carpenter‘s immortal horror classic, and you’ll be able to pick it up (or at least try to pick it up) this week. And nothing says Halloween like the third week in […]

Throughout the month of April, Film School Rejects will be dedicating the bulk of our Sunday programming to a series we call “Movie Geek Self Improvement.” We’ve tasked our writers with finding ways to improve your life — from losing weight to restoring old VHS tape jackets — we want to help you get the most out of your pop culture obsessed existence. Longtime readers of this site may note that we’ve got a thing for movie art. I won’t dare to speak for all of the Film School Rejects contributors, but I am personally a bit of a collector of prints. As I kid, my walls were decorated with theatrical reprints. Every trip to the comics shop left me with another summer blockbuster on my wall. Those were cheap and most of the time, never ended in a frame. Though as life goes, eventually I grew up. My first major piece of art as an...

Almost exactly one year ago, I was standing at the intersection on Guadalupe Street outside of the Mondo Gallery, talking with folks who didn't let their all-nighter in line diminish their excitement for the newest Mondo show. Last year, it was all about Tyler Stout and Ken Taylor. This year, Mondo partnered with Disney's blog Oh My Disney to create the same fervor.
Aptly named "Nothing's Impossible," the exhibit drew fans from all over the country, who lined up at the gallery as early as 48 hours before the doors opened. Distance, time and weather could not stand in the way of Mondo's loyal fans. When checking in with the line-dwellers an hour before launch, I heard, "Things are getting exciting. We're all standing now!" The wall of folding chairs and sleeping bags were gone, and if you didn't know better you'd have thought the queue had just formed.

Mondo has put up some of its most impressive gallery shows during SXSW in the last few years, including a Tyler Stout/Ken Taylor exhibit and another one entirely dedicated to HBO's Game of Thrones. It couldn't be different this year, but the good folks behind the art division of Alamo Drafthouse are really going the extra mile this time to present "Nothing's Impossible", a Disney themed show with new and original artwork by names such as Aaron Horkey, Ken Taylor, Martin Ansin and Jason Edmiston, among others (check the impressive lineup in the image below). Here's the full press release: Mondo, the collectible art division of Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, is partnering with Disney's "Oh My Disney" blog to unveil "Nothing's Impossible," a gallery event at...

Tyler Stout created a brand new Shaun of the Dead poster for the screening of Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World’s End that took place this weekend in Austin with Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg, and Nick Frost in attendance. If you couldn’t make it to Austin, don’t worry, because this screenprint will be offered for sale online in the very near future.
According to /Film, the poster measures 24×36. There are 710 copies of the regular edition and 300 copies of the variant edition. We don’t have information on the release date or pricing at this point, but it should be offered in the same way as all Mondo posters. A day before the sale begins, Mondo will officially release details and the poster will go on sale at a random time announced on the @MondoNews Twitter account. We’ll let readers know as soon as more information become available.

Having chased them a number of times, I’ve gotten over the allure of Comic-Con exclusives. Most of it is toy fodder that takes up closet and shelf space, never to be opened, touched, sold or used in any productive way. But there is one thing — a more recent development for Comic-Con thanks to the rise of high quality movie-related art — the prints that Mondo releases during the convention. Of those who stopped by the Mondo booth this past weekend and picked up something awesome, I am a bit jealous. With that in mind, I’m convinced that I need for all of you to share in my pain. To see the absolutely stunning selection of Mondo art from Comic-Con and realize that most, if not all of it is completely sold out and well out of reach. With a few notable exceptions, this is all about enjoying the art. Of...

The last weekend was a busy one for Mondo fans and collectors attending San Diego Comic Con. The famous Austin-based art boutique released just under two dozen different items during the Con, including Martin Ansin's gorgeous posters for Elysium (that we covered here). Most of these prints were Sdcc exclusives or sold out at the event, so expect to toss out some big bucks on the secondary market if you're planning on acquiring one or more. The good news is that Mondo announced an online sale of their new vinyl release of Studio Ghibli Kokyo Kyokushu featuring amazing work by the one and only Tyler Stout. These will go online Friday July 26 - at a random time, as always - and shouldn't take too long...

Stallone, Hopkins and Gosling all welcomed visitors on Friday to the latest Mondo gallery event featuring new works by artists Tyler Stout and Ken Taylor. And by "welcomed," I mean their likeness graced the posters on the wall. With this new show, Stout and Taylor have brought Austin a wonderful collection of works that showcases the artists' unique styles that have made them famous. Stout's filled frames were no more prevalent than in his poster for Attack the Block and previously released Django Unchained, while Taylor highlighted his detailed, realistic representations of famous faces in his posters for First Blood and Silence of the Lambs (pictured above).

Pitchfork threw up this picture by Tyler Stout and it's unbelievably cool. This is for the vinyl reissue of the incredible soundtrack for Drive which will be available March 22nd at Austin's Mondo Gallery. Have a feeling of deja vu? You might remember that last summer Portishead member Geoff Barrow's Invada Records dropped a vinyl reissue of the soundtrack to Nicolas Winding Refn's "Drive," complete with some hot pink and picture disc LPs. But for those of you who didn't want to shell out import prices, there's some good news as the neon slicked music is now coming on everyone's favorite wax format courtesy of Mondo. The company has revealed the artwork by Tyler Stout and it's all hot pink and grids, looking like an '80s videogame or something, which seems about right. And packed up in a 2xLP gatefold sleeve, this thing will probably look pretty good on your shelf. And even more, some lucky ducks will be getting this on hot pink vinyl, though Mondo will be parceling those out randomly, so keep your fingers crossed. The set will...

We may stand in line to get our hands on the latest technology and watch as record stores close their doors as more and more music fans turn to iTunes and digital downloads instead of physical CDs, but there is still something about vinyl records that keep people coming back for more. While digital files are crisp and polished, it is almost impossible for a studio to duplicate the richness that comes from vinyl – plus those little imperfections and pops that come from listening to a record can sometimes be the best part. Even though CDs may seem like they are becoming a way of the past, there is a new trend coming forward and one that seems to be popping up more and more with soundtrack releases – the option to get these compilations on vintage vinyl. While he is known for creating electric scores for films such as Traffic and Contagion, Cliff Martinez...
