Editor’s note: As part of Deadline’s ongoing coverage of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, we want to give voice to other Hollywood workers who are impacted by the work stoppages. This column was written by Jonathan Daniel Brown, the head of Party Crasher Films in New York City. Best known for starring in the 2012 film Project X, his life’s mission is recapture the subversive and countercultural magic of 1970s and ’90s Hollywood through a slate of bold, rebellious and wildly entertaining independent films.
After 14 years of working as an actor in L.A, I realized I could no longer find success or happiness in a town that rejects fresh voices while blowing $300 million on movies starring 80-year-old men. I decided to set my sights on the world of New York’s independent film scene, where a new generation of geniuses operate in the shadows. You won...

Pretty much my whole reason for giving The Final Wish a watch was because Lin Shaye stars in it. She is a seal of approval for me and I know that even if the movie disappoints, then I will at least see a good performance from the veteran actress. That said, this also features Tony Todd, another reliable horror icon and had some decent-looking poster artwork, so it had at least a few things going for it.
The Final Wish has a simple concept. After his Dad dies, a man (Michael Welch) heads back to the place he grew up to see his Mum (Shaye). While he is there he discovers a mysterious...

In an unsurprising move, a sequel to 2012.s Project X has been ordered because of the fact that the original made a ton of money off a nothing budget. But rather than breaking the mold with the title for the follow-up, those involved simply decided to name it Project Xx. Which, while pretty obvious, suggests that the raunchy comedy will pick-up right where the original left off. The Wrap were the first to report that the Todd Phillips-produced sequel is currently in pre-production. At the moment though we.re still not sure if either the film.s trifecta of stars (Thomas Mann, Oliver Cooper, and Jonathan Daniel Brown), its director Nima Nourizadeh, or its writing team of Matt Drake and Michael Bacall will return. However, the last details we had on the sequel suggested that Bacall had been asked to write a draft of the script. Project Xx has...

But that wasn’t always the case.
Before entire new media entities devoted to talent management existed and MCNs became de facto managers for the talent behind the channels within their networks, there were a handful of prescient independent managers who saw an opportunity in digital.

Before directing his debut feature film this past July in Los Angeles, Jacob Vaughan (pictured above) came from a background in editing (working for Duplass Bros. projects including the Sundance accepted Baghead, Cyrus and Black Rock). Coming across like a twisted version of The Beaver, Milo is a comedic horror film featuring Ken Marino in the lead alongside Patrick Warburton, Peter Stormare, Gillian Jacobs, Stephen Root, Jonathan Daniel Brown and Mary Kay Place.
Gist: Penned by Vaughan & Benjamin Hayes, this centers on a man (Marino) with intense stomach trouble who learns to his horror that he has a demon living in his intestines. When he gives it permission to come out during a therapy session, the man names it Milo and tries to live a life in which he, not his demon, is in charge. Jacobs will play Marino’s wife, and one of the stresses in his life. Stormare plays the man’s shrink.

The Duplass Brothers, who have worked together on Baghead, Jeff Who Lives At Home, The Puffy Chair, Cyrus and the Do-deca-pentathlon, have another quirky interesting project upcoming. Let me introduce you to Milo, a film that the brothers are producing, and Jacob Vaughan is directing.
The film stars Party Down’s Ken Marino, Gillian Jacobs (Community), Peter Stormare and Jonathan Daniel Brown. 'Sons of Anarchy' star Ron Perlman has joined the cast of "Kid Cannabis," an indie film about a pair of Idaho teens smuggling weed from British Columbia into the United States, the actor told TheWrap. The film, which stars Kenny Wormald and Jonathan Daniel Brown, is based on real-life characters, as profiled in Rolling Stone. John Stockwell wrote the script and is directing. Perlman, who recently shot his scenes, plays an Israeli-American businessman with a clandestine criminal side. Though on the surface he owns a chain of cell phone stores and has a...

Having eaten mass quantities of Taco Bell in my lifetime, I am pretty friggin' familiar with evil living in one's intestines. That's okay, though; thanks to Activia I'm shittin' regularly like Jamie Lee! Unfortunately the folks in the horror comedy Milo aren't so lucky!
THR reports that Jonathan Daniel Brown (pictured), one of the breakout stars of Project X, is joining the cast of the New Artists Alliance's horror comedy Milo.
Ken Marino, Gillian Jacobs, and Peter Stormare are also in the film, which centers on a man (Marino) with intense stomach trouble who learns to his horror that he has a demon living in his intestines. When he gives it permission to come out during a therapy session, the man names it Milo and tries to live a life in which he, not his demon, is in charge.

It may play as a prequel to the Hangover, especially when you see who produced it, but Project X has some moments of hilarity. It may be more hilarious to a younger generation as my elderly eyes kept thinking about how fast those folks. insurance company was going to drop them. Thomas (Thomas Mann) is having a birthday. Even better his parents are going out of town and leaving him in charge. This sends his pals Costa (Oliver Cooper) and J.B. (Jonathan Daniel Brown) into planning mode. Well, maybe just Costa. They plan to throw an epic party that will raise their cred in school. They even hire Dax (Dax Flame) to document the proceedings with his video...

Chicago – Do you think a dog in a bounce house is inherently funny or that a gun that shoots tequila is shocking? “Project X” is a movie for you. What’s so remarkably stupid about this truly awful flick is that its creators think there’s humor or storytelling or shock value in any of it.
Rating: 1.0/5.0
Teenagers drink. Teenagers swear. Teenagers get laid. There’s your movie. That’s literally it since there are no characters worth caring about in the slightest and the plot is as deep as “teens party” (until the final act, which just gets stupid as the creators realize they’re going to need to get totally ridiculous to write an ending). There, I saved you ninety awful minutes. Go do something actually fun like having a party of your own. Try not to piss off any drug dealers on the way there.

Project X may be the definition of a “one trick pony,” but it embraces that trick with such enthusiasm and balls-to-the-wall wackiness that it succeeds in making a riot worthy movie for its generation. This movie focuses on scaling up the levels of craziness one drunken teen at a time, while reminding everyone what a great – if misbegotten – party is all about – no rules. Once you’ve thrown rules out the window, you’ve opened yourself up to orgy worthy antics that would make Spartacus jealous.
You’ve seen movies in the past, where a group of high school boys try to live it up before they head to college. Usually, it involves losing their virginity, such as in American Pie, Superbad or The Virginity Hit. These movies always culminate in a big party and one last chance to “be a man.” Project X skips all those wasted moments surrounding...

Project X
Stars: Thomas Mann, Jonathan Daniel Brown, Oliver Cooper, Dax Flame, Nichole Bloom, Alex Rose Wiesel, Alexis Knapp | Written by Matt Drake, Michael Bacall | Directed by Nima Nourizadeh
Project X is the latest opus from Todd Phillips, the man behind Old School and The Hangover, who here returns to his Frathouse roots as producer of this high-school based, shot documentary-style comedy that follows one epic night in the life of three teenagers – Thomas, J.B. and Costa – who, in order to up their rep at school, throw an out of control, balls-to-the-wall party to celebrate Thomas’ birthday. With disastrous results. And these aren’t your normal disastrous results either, not unless you class destroying a car, a house and an entire neighbourhood as normal party behaviour!
Like all good movies, Project X is not just a movie about a party that breaks out into a full-scale riot, oh no.

Whenever the tagline “from Todd Phillips, director of The Hangover” is used on the cover of a Blu-Ray, you should know exactly what to expect. Project X is in the same league as Phillips’ insanely moronic Hangover films, if anything it’s worse. There’s not a single likable character in the film and the found-footage element works for all of 20 minutes. Project X is a film that consists of recycled party clips that play on repeat over and over and over, until the grand finale, which is forcefully slapped on and definitely out of place. Approach with extreme caution.
It’s been a few months since I’ve last seen Project X and I’ll admit that my initial response was a bit harsh. I still don’t particularly like the film, but while watching the Blu-Ray I’ve noticed that the little stuff I did enjoy holds up well,...

Growing up, I went to plenty of parties, but never one when the parents were out of town. I always felt I missed out on something until I heard the time my younger cousin held such an affair, resulting in $1500 in property damage (in 1980 dollars). Call me uptight or a loser, much as Thomas (Thomas Mann), is in Project X.
Designed to be the ultimate party film, it was based on the recollections of various people who attended outrageous parties while parents were out of town. Cobbling the stories together, Michael Bacall and Matt Drake wrote a script and director Nima Nourizadeh sought out relative unknowns and total unknowns to populate the cast, giving it a fresh feel. Eight different camera systems were used including the main images purportedly shot by an Av studio Dax (Dax Flame) and cell phones given to various extras, who shot moments without others realizing it.

His Footloose co-star Julianne Hough is about to light up multiplexes as one part of the all-star ensemble gathered for Adam Shankman.s Rock of Ages. (Read our review of that film right here.) Now Kenny Wormald.s committing to his next picture, and it.s about as far from the song-and-dance world of Footloose as the young talent can get. Wormald and Project X star Jonathan Daniel Brown have signed on to star in Kid Cannabis, a drama John Stockwell (Blue Crush, Turistas) plans to write and direct. Deadline says Stockwell takes his inspirations from a Rolling Stone article about misguided entrepreneurs who try to smuggle marijuana into Idaho from British Columbia. Given the fact that movies need dramatic tension, we.re going to guess that things don.t go according to plans for Brown and Wormald. Stockwell.s been busy as of late closing a deal with The...

Look, up in the sky! It's a bird! it's a plane! It's... "Kid Cannabis?"
Okay, so despite the title, the upcoming indie "Kid Cannabis" is not actually about Bluntman and Chronic's new sidekick. But as disappointing as that is, there is good news: According to Deadline, "Footloose's" Kenny Wormald has just signed on to co-star in it.

Here's the deal on "Kid Cannabis:" Based on a 2005 Rolling Stone article, the film details the true(ish) story of a couple of bored Idaho suburbanites who decide to spice up their lives by running dope across the Canadian border.
Wormald, who got his big break in last year's well-received remake of "Footloose," will be joined by co-star Jonathan Daniel Brown, who recently hit it big himself thanks to "Project X." Plus, since vampire hotties Kellan Lutz ("The Twilight Saga") and Nina Dobrev ("The Vampire Diaries...

If you ask me — nobody did, but please don’t stop reading now — Benicio del Toro doesn’t get nearly enough play. Sure, the guy would be all over the place if he went and took the villain role in Star Trek 2 — but he didn’t and, therefore, isn’t. (We’ll know if that was a wise move in eleven months.) I take it as good fortune, then, when Deadline say he’ll grab the lead role in Jimmy Picard, a psychiatry-based drama from Arnaud Desplechin, director of 2008′s acclaimed drama A Christmas Tale.
He and that film’s star, Mathieu Amalric, will make a reunion on Picard, itself the story of returning WWII veteran Jimmy Picard, a Native American whose battle scars are unlike those typically encountered by doctors. A dire case gets a dose of hope at Topeka’s Winter Hospital, where “ethno-psychiatrist” Georges Devereux (Amalric...
