Jim Carey or Seth Rogen could make a shrinking movie that’s a straight comedy (Paul Rudd even did, though it was a superhero movie too). Alexander Payne made a shrinking movie that’s more interested in the actual social impact of shrinking people voluntarily, and in theory I’m for that. Yet Downsizing is not the arthouse version of a high concept studio comedy. It’s just another meandering indie that’s never really sure of its point. Scientists have discovered a way to shrink people by a magnitude of 2744 times, so they create less waste and can consume fewer resources. As a...read more...

Recently Jim Carey has been catching public attention and making waves for all the wrong reasons. The actor and comedian, who is for celebrated for his iconic and energetic performances in films such a s The Mask, Liar Liar and Ace Ventura, indulged in a crazy moment of existential venting to E! interviewer, Catt Sadler. Carrey tends to steer clear of public appearances, so his rare outing on the red carpet during New York Fashion Week was always unlikely to go unheeded. Carrey insured that it did not when he showed up at Harper’s Bazaar’s shindig celebrating icons. E! reporter,

The Power Rangers follows group of high-school kids who are infused with unique superpowers in order to save the world. Couple that with tons of sub-par kung-fu and overacting that would make Jim Carey shit himself, and you have an idea of what the original show was about. The reboot is coming by way of director Dean Israelite (Project Almanac) and if that's not exciting enough for ya, check out the... Read More...

The 73rd annual Golden Globe Awards were a typically loose affair on Sunday, thanks to comically sloshed host Ricky Gervais, and it made for a night filled with bawdy laughs and unpredictable wins. The Revenant, The Martian and Steve Jobs earned multiple trophies in a surprising upset that left the evening's most-nominated film, Carol, empty-handed. Moreover, Leonardo DiCaprio won Best Actor, Drama for his gritty role in The Revenant, while Jennifer Lawrence (Joy), Matt Damon (The Martian) and Brie Larson (Room) all took home major acting awards.

A number of stars have performed emotional, bizarre interpretive dances to Sia's hit songs — Lena Dunham, Shia Labeouf — and at Sunday's 2015 Grammy Awards, Saturday Night Live alum Kristen Wiig has added her name to that list.
Wiig surprised everyone when she appeared on stage for a striking “Chandelier” performance with Maddie Ziegler – the 12-year-old Dance Moms star who danced solo in the song's unsettling music video -- and then blew the doors off the place with a striking performance.
In what ended up being one of the most interesting and liveliest numbers of the show’s staggering three-and-a-half hour run, Wiig and Ziegler danced a turbulent and chaotic interpretive number, with Wiig often lightening the mood with bizarre little physicalities that gave the performance life.
While the dance itself didn’t have the intense severity of the song’s emotional music video, it managed to maintain the song’s creepy atmosphere with some truly stunning set decoration...

Did Chris Rock go too far on 'Saturday Night Live?'
Chris Rock stirred up some controversy by pushing comedic boundaries on Saturday Night Live.
After leaving the cast more than 20 years ago, comedian Chris Rock came back to SNL on November 1 to host the show.
News: Jim Carey Got Weird on Last Week's SNL
In his opening monologue, Chris brought up the 2013 Boston marathon bombing after bringing up the New York City marathon, "Tomorrow's the New York City marathon. What could go wrong there, right?"
He continued by saying the Boston marathon bombing, "was probably the most frightening, sadistic terrorist attack ever." He then spoke about the runners, "Their knees are hurting, their feet are killing them, if you're a woman, there's blood coming out your titties. You've been training for a year, you finally get to the finish line, and somebody screams: 'Run!'"

The SNL curse strikes again.
Though it isn't quite as bad as Ashlee Simpson's hoe-down 10 years ago, Iggy Azalea and singer Mø's performance of "Beg for It" on Saturday Night Live this past weekend will certainly go down as one of the most cringe-worthy live moments in recent history.
Though Iggy's rapping was less-than-stellar due to some pretty awkward timing, it was undoubtedly Danish singer Mø's nervous dancing and offbeat singing that received the worst of the criticism.

Leslie Jones, the standup comedian who has been writing for Saturday Night Live since January, has been named a castmember of Saturday Night Live.
Leslie Jones Joins 'SNL' Cast
Last year, when Saturday Night Live was scrambling to find an African-American woman to join the cast, Jones was a finalist, losing the spot to Sasheer Zamata, reported Deadline. She ended up in SNL’s writer’s room, but has occasionally made appearances on the show, namely during Weekend Update as the resident Dating Expert.
Jones caused a bit of a stir during her first Weekend Update appearance in which she decried the injustices about what kind of women men want. While she said she wasn’t the first pick in the dating pool, with her broad shoulders and strong arms she would have been “the No. 1 slave draft pick.” Jones’ skit, while receiving some backlash, did give SNL...

The director of Excision returns for a lighter, oddball horror comedy. Here's Jules-Pierre's review of Suburban Gothic...
Suburban Gothic is director Richard Bates Jr's second film following Excision, his gruesome horror about a disturbed teen's mental state. Suburban Gothic, however, trades in most of the blood and grisly scenes of Excision for more humour while retaining Bates's trademark character moments and dialogues.
There's surely more room for genre comedies like Ghostbusters, but the gaps in between releases in that genre can almost be measured in decades, and it has to be said that many of them aren't particularly good: for every Spaceballs there's a The Creature Wasn't Nice (obscure reference − look it up), and for every Princess Bride there's a Your Highness. Luckily, we sometimes get a few good ones in a row, such as Zombieland, Shaun Of The Dead, and Tucker And Dale Vs Evil.

You may have heard by now the sad news that actor Robin Williams, age 63, was found dead today. We'd like to take a moment to remember this iconic actor in our own way. The Batman way.
When Tim Burton brought Batman to the big screen in 1989 its said that Williams was being considered for the role of the Joker, before Jack Nicholson agreed to take the role. Michael Uslan had famously wanted Nicholson since he saw him back in the 1970s in films like 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest'.
Later, when Batman Forever was brought to the big screen they were looking at Robin Williams as what many at the time thought as a shoe-in role for the Riddler. Of course we know that Burton and Keaton left the project and when Schumacher came in he was looking at a new, hipper talent for the role..Jim Carey.

It’s a The Wolf of Wall Street world and we’re all just living in it. Opening tomorrow, the film is generating a lot of talk from critics praising it to Academy members maybe not being on its side. The one thing that I’m sure most people will come away from the movie talking about is the performances, including a great turn delivered by Jonah Hill. But does he have what it takes to place in the Supporting Actor race?
Looking at Jonah Hill’s career, it’s certainly quite an astounding position for the young actor to be in as he has certainly come up in the past few years. You’d have been hard-pressed to think that big kid who starred in the raunchy comedy Superbad would have starred in a single Best Picture nominated film let alone two in a three year span.

On 4 December, Emerson College's School of Communication will be renamed after Will Ferrell's Anchorman character and journalism paragon
For one day on 4 December, Emerson College's School of Communication in Boston will be renamed the Ron Burgundy School of Communication, celebrating the pioneering (fictional) journalism of the Anchorman star.
Luxuriantly moustachioed TV news anchor Burgundy may have told the entirety of San Diego to "go fuck yourself" in his first movie outing, but it hasn't stopped him from being recognised with the honour. The day will begin with a press conference, followed by an official naming ceremony (perhaps soundtracked by jazz flute) and a screening of the new Burgundy movie, Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, introduced by Will Ferrell, who plays the buffoonish presenter.

"She didn't talk almost the entire movie! I mean, I liked it, but I thought with her it would at least be a little funny." That was the insta-review from a woman sitting in my row at yesterday's Toronto Film Festival premiere of Kristen Wiig's new movie, the spare drama Hateship Loveship, in which she stars as introverted home caretaker Johanna Parry. It's pretty clear the film isn't going to be full of laughs just by looking at the credits — it's based on a short story by genius Canadian author Alice Munro and directed by Liza Johnson, whose first film, 2011's Return, starred Linda Cardellini as a struggling returning Iraq war vet. Still, fans of Wiig's comedy might need to do a mind cleanse before they're ready to see her like this. Wiig hasn't quite entered the serious Jim Carey phase of her career, but this is by far...

What's It About? In "Now You See Me," from director Louis Leterrier's ("The Incredible Hulk"), a team of the world's best illusionists -- dubbed The Four Horsemen -- are known for robbing banks during their performances and giving away the money. However, the magicians are being tracked by an FBI agent and an Interpol detective. Why We're In: One of the most unique stories of the summer (we've had enough superhero & action flicks for a while), "Now You See Me" was a refreshing find. Much like the magicians in The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, VFX supervisor Bruce Jones likes creating big reactions. And, also like a magician, Jones appreciates that even simple and small effects can provoke great responses . providing they are believable.. "Magicians usually use a slight of hand to pull off their tricks, which involves a magician getting somebody to focus on a certain area, before using a split second to distract the audience to perform the trick," says Jones. "So in Wonderstone, we made sure that the actors incorporated these same movements. However, in some cases, we exaggerated them, so that the 'flourish' sold the trick, making them look real and captured in camera, although the tricks were actually VFX." And, also like a magician, Jones appreciates that even simple and small effects can provoke great responses . providing they are believable.. "Magicians usually use a slight of hand to pull off their tricks, which involves a magician getting somebody to focus on a certain area, before using a split second to distract the audience to perform the trick," says Jones. "So in Wonderstone, we made sure that the actors incorporated these same movements. However, in some cases, we exaggerated them, so that the 'flourish' sold the trick, making them look real and captured in camera, although the tricks were actually VFX." One of Jones's favourite effects in the movie involved an imploding building, which happens just after Steve Carell has left a cab...

Kick-Ass star Aaron Taylor-Johnson is the frontrunner to play Quicksilver in Avengers: Age Of Ultron, and has been linked to the role for some time now, but has yet to sign on the dotted line to confirm his involvement. In a recent interview he's been chatting about the role: “There's years – over 50 – of backstory on him all there to use, and I like doing that. Him and his sister (Scarlet Witch) have been abandoned by their parents and their father, and they grew up in Eastern Europe defending and looking out for themselves and each other.”
He went on to discuss the relationship with Scarlet Witch: “His sister really is his guidance – emotionally, she's the one who looks after him, and vice versa. He's very...

Already this week we’ve heard from Kick-Ass 2 comic book Writer Mark Miller and the main three cast in the Kick-Ass movie sequel Aaron Johnson, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Chloe Moretz but now it’s the turn of the newest member of the bunch – writer/director Jeff Wadlow. Wadlow has previously directed Never Back Down and Cry Wolf, but this is arguably his biggest challenge. Although the film is a studio movie, producer Matthew Vaughn (director of the first movie) still maintains control of the property and it would appear that Wadlow has seriously impressed him!
After the first movie was complete the ever-growing fan-base wanted a second film, and it was seemingly a chance encounter or script which Wadlow wrote and sent into Vaughn which changed the fate of Kick-Ass. Four years since the first movie, Wadlow’s script was not only well recieved by Vaughn, but he was...

Their movie “Dumb & Dumber” was a huge success in the 1990’s, and now it looks like Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels plan to be part of the sequel “Dumb and Dumber To.”
Jeff finally confirmed to The Associated Press on Wednesday (June 19) that production is underway for the next adventure of Lloyd and Harry. The sequel is directed by Bobby and Peter Farrelly.
“Jim [Carey] has been against all sequel, and you know, understandably so,” Mr. Daniels explained. “But he turned 50 and that will mellow you out, and suddenly he’s going, ‘Let’s have some fun… Come on,’ and we’re going, ‘Great.’”
Jeff added, “And so the Farrellys said, ‘This isn’t about money grab. Let’s really write a great second movie that takes the original and then blows it up even further, and so I think they did that.”

Jane Fonda cemented her place in Hollywood history on Saturday (27.04.13). The two-time Academy Award winner - who has yet to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame - was joined outside the Chinese Theatre by celebrities including Jim Carey, Maria Shriver and Eva Longoria as she pressed her hands and shoeprints into cement alongside those of her late father Henry Fonda. The 75-year-old actress was in great spirits as she took part in the prestigious ceremony, which was part of the 2013 TCM Classic Film Festival, and hosted a special screening of her and her father's movie 'On Golden Pond' afterward. Earlier this week Jane admitted she was thrilled to be invited to receive the honour of...

Purists are easy to deride. People who loved Transformers were enraged at so many modifications made to the characters as they were put to use in the live-action adaptations. But any honest person has to confess many films and the occasional television series has gone awry from being too faithful to the letter of source material (Watchmen comes to mind in this regard). Here the focus will be on the Joker and the argument will be we have yet to see a proper rendition on the big screen (I’m not counting certain interesting videogame versions). Before beginning, one has to concede the Cesar Romero interpretation, whatever its genuine brilliance, was too tame by half to truly merit the top spot yet an argument can be made this is the closest to seeing the Joker in the flesh.
The Jack Nicholson version is, unfortunately, too easy to dismiss. Jack is playing … well Jack.

This weekend sees a number of well-reviewed films in limited release. Sally Potter's lovely coming-of-age drama "Ginger & Rosa" stars a remarkable Elle Fanning nimbly handling the role of a budding teen poet struggling to come to terms with her family's latest break-up and the Cuban Missile Crisis. The new Studio Ghibli entry and Hayao Miyazaki's son Goro's second feature film, "From Up on Poppy Hill," is receiving glowing praise from the critics, while Matteo Garrone's "Reality," his follow-up to "Gomorrah" that follows the rise of a regular guy to reality TV-star status, is also getting top marks. Harmony Korine's Disney-darlings-gone-wild "Spring Breakers" is nabbing more upbeat, less outraged reviews than usual for the bad-boy filmmaker, particularly the New York Times' Manohla Dargis (review link below). Wide release an SXSW opener "The Incredible Burt Wonderstone," starring bleached, tanned and coiffed Jim Carey, Steve Carrell and Steve Buscemi,...

Over the weekend, our guys down in SXSW managed to catch The Incredible Burt Wonderstone and they reported on their impressions on the film. I got a chance to watch the film at a screening earlier this week, so I’m here to bring you our full review of the magical comedy film. Is it worth your cash this weekend? Come on in and see my verdict.
Here’s the rundown on the official info on this movie:
Popular magicians Burt Wonderstone (Steve Carell) and Anton Lovecraft (Steve Buscemi) are longtime Las Vegas favorites, but their show has become stale. Meanwhile, an up-and-coming street magician (Jim Carrey) begins to steal their audience.
Burt becomes cynical and jaded, but when he bumps into his original mentor, Rance Hanson (Alan Arkin), he remembers why he wanted to become a magician in the first place. With help from magic assistant Jane (Olivia Wilde...

Back in January, director Peter Farrelly revealed that the script for "Dumb and Dumber To" is finished and will take place twenty years after the original 1994 movie. Now, Jim Carey has provided an update, saying that the plan is to begin filming next year. "We're talking about it," he explained. "Jeff [Daniels] and I are really excited about it and hopefully next year we'll be able to do that." The original plan was to begin filming during the fall of 2012. But things eventually fell apart when Carrey quit the project because he felt that Warner Bros wasn't focusing on it. Since then, Carrey jumped back on board and has been the biggest cheerleader for it.

One of the other comic book movies coming out this year (that some have forgotten about) is Kick-Ass 2, and despite it's fan following, we haven't heard much about this film yet. Now the first trailer has been released and it's looking quite awesome. Beware...it's a red band trailer, so watch at your own risk!
Just the other day we were having a discussion about why we haven't seen a Kick-Ass 2 trailer yet. The film is slated to release on June 28th, but the marketing so far has been nearly non-existent. I guess someone must have been thinking the same thing, because today saw the release of the first trailer for the film. Given the highly adult content from the first film and the overall subject matter, it seems fitting that the first trailer happens to be an Nsfw red band trailer:

Burt Wonderstone is hitting theaters this Friday, but we got the chance to check it out (with the cast) while at opening night in SXSW. Come on in to check out our thoughts on this magical comedy.
[Editor's Note: SXSW, like any major event is incredibly hectic, and between running from place to place, it's tough to hammer out reviews. So as you read through some of the reviews we'll be posting over the next several days, perhaps it's best to look at them as impressions, to give you an overall idea on how we 'feel' about a movie. We'll have more detailed reviews coming as well, but in the meantime, enjoy our thoughts on the SXSW films!]
Opening night at SXSW couldn’t have been better as Jim Carey took to the stage to serenade the audience while introducing The Incredible Burt Wonderstone along with Steve Carell and Olivia Wilde. Carey then broke into dance while Olivia Wilde spoke and stole the show just as he does throughout Wonderstone.
Burt Wonderstone (Steve Carell) and Anton Marvelton (Steve Buscemi) turned to magic after being bullied as children and forged a lasting friendship as budding magicians. Now the twosome headline in Las Vegas as illusionists but their friendship is in shambles and their career is being threatened by a street performer, and Brain Rapist, Steve Gray (Jim Carey).

Enjoying an afternoon in the Big Apple with a friend, Olivia Wilde was out and about on Wednesday (March 6).
Bundled up in a black coat and scarf, the “People Like Us” star gabbed away with her pal as they strolled through the streets of Chelsea.
Fans can catch Ms. Wilde next in the comedy “The Incredible Burt Wonderstone,” with Steve Carell and Jim Carey.
Hitting theaters on March 15, the film follows magician Burt Wonderstone, who splits from his longtime stage partner after a guerrilla street magician steals their thunder.

The holidays are finally upon us, and in celebration we're posting five fun facts about our favorite festive flicks!Today's featured film is the 2000 version of "How the Grinch Stole Christmas." 1. It took 3 hours to apply the prosthetic Grinch make-up on Jim Carey. He felt so uncomfortable in the latex skin, a Navy Seal came in to teach him torture-resistance techniques. 2. This movie had the most characters in heavy make-up since “The Wizard of Oz.” On a busy filming day, there were 45 make-up artists on set. They used 8,000 make-up appliances during production. 3. 152,000 pounds of crushed marble was used to create the snow in Whoville. They used 6 miles of styrofoam to build the sets. 4. The Grinch suit is made out of yak hairs that were dyed green and sewed onto a spandex suit one by one. 5. Ron Howard (director) came in at 3:30 one morning to put on the Grinch suit with full make-up.

Last week saw the release of the second season of the brilliant The Walking Dead, one of the best and most talked-about television programmes currently on the air – and about to kick off with its anticipated third season.
And this week brings with it the release of one of the year’s most successful films in the form of The Hunger Games, very much one of the biggest blockbusters of 2012, beginning what is set to become an immense franchise in the years to come.
There are a lot of films coming to the shelves this week, so I shall press on.
My picks of the week:
Gary Ross’ The Hunger Games & Lasse Hallström’s Salmon Fishing in the Yemen.
The Office: An American Workplace – Season 7 & Boardwalk Empire – Season 2.
And, of course, the Blu-ray release of Steven Spielberg’s Jaws.

Theodor Seuss Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss, was responsible for creating some of the most endearing characters and writing some of the most beloved children’s stories of the 20th century. His use of rhyme, repetition, and trisyllabic meter gave his books a distinctive quality and made them easily accessible and addictively appealing. However, much like a nursery rhyme or classical fable, they are simple tales, and do not automatically translate to a ninety minute feature film. The Lorax is the latest in a growing line of Seuss’ stories that are taken, padded out and regurgitated as flabby, ponderous pictures.
The Lorax tells the tale of a twelve-year-old boy named Ted who lives in the walled city of Thneed-ville; a city of the future where everything is artificial, including the air, which is now a commodity. Ted seeks the heart of Audrey and believes that...

We movie geeks are a couple of steps ahead of you, and maybe the fine folks of Sony Studios. Looking over Spidey’s 50 year history, we’re amazed at his terrific roster of bad guys. In the latest issue of Empire magazine, "The Dark Knight Rises" director Christopher Nolan spoke about his upcoming projects. He mentioned that his Howard Hughes biopic that was to star Jim Carey will likely not happen. "Luckily I managed to find another wealthy, quirky character who's orphaned at a young age," said Nolan. The biggest news is that Nolan revealed that he's very serious about directing an installment in the James Bond franchise, but cautioned that "it would have to be the right situation and the right time in their cycle of things." Director Sam Mendes is currently working on the latest installment, called "Skyfall," which is set to hit theaters on November 9th.
