When it comes to the road to blockbuster glory, some projects are willed, some happen instantaneously, while others go through a long development hell. That’s just what happens when you’re working toward what’s hopefully a billion-grossing title.
In the case of Mattel’s Barbie, it was a 14-year journey that began at Universal. It stands to reason that the toy company would be fiercely protective about a feature take on its 64-year-old doll that generates a reported $3 billion annually in revenue. The product first conceived as America’s Sweetheart has evolved with changing times, switching up her stereotypes and outfits from prom queen to flight attendant to Mad Men secretary to astronaut. A doll that was deemed iconic in the 1970s-era of pinups like Loni Anderson and Farrah Fawcett endured a backlash when critics deemed her an inappropriate role model for young girls. This, despite Mattel pushing...

Watergate comes to TV once more in White House Plumbers. HBO has shared the premiere date and trailer showing Woody Harrelson and Justin Theroux (The Leftovers) as the men who would inadvertently kick Richard Nixon out of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. “The President is a good man,” G. Gordon Liddy (Theroux) says, sitting next to E. Howard Hunt (Harrelson) and adding, “between you and me, I worry about some of the people with whom he surrounds himself.” Watch the trailer above. White House Plumbers, premiering Monday, May 1 at 9/8c, tells the story of how Nixon’s own political saboteurs and Watergate masterminds, Hunt and Liddy accidentally toppled the presidency they were zealously trying to protect. It’s based in part on public records and the book Integrity by Egil “Bud” Krogh and Matthew Krogh. Egil is played by Rich Sommer (Mad Men) in the series. The trailer for the five-episode limited series shows off the impressive cast,...

January Jones beat the heat over the weekend at her home in Los Angeles, spending her time in a fun bikini to try to escape the scorching 102-degree temps that blasted California recently.
Taking to her Instagram page for her first swimwear snap in over a month, the Mad Men alum, 44, sizzled in her own way as she posed for some shots of herself donning a classy ensemble.
Wearing a white-based bikini top with black polka dots splashed across the fabric and pairing the look with matching bikini bottoms that ruched up along the hips for added style, January looked as glam as ever.
The upper half of the skimpy garment also displayed a ruched design, culminating in a stringy bow in the middle and a...

Comedy “How to Please a Woman,” starring “Veep” and “Bridget Jones Diary” actor Sally Phillips, has generated brisk business for Beta Cinema. Brainstorm Media has taken all rights for the U.S. and will release the film theatrically on July 22, and pay TV operator Sky has secured all rights for the U.K.
Beta Cinema also sold all rights for Canada (Mongrel Media), Poland (Monolith Films), former Yugoslavia (Discovery), Czech Republic (Bohemia Motion Pictures) and Hungary (Ads).
Madmen will put the film out in Australia and New Zealand on a wide release on May 19 and May 26, respectively.
Phillips stars as 50-year-old Gina, who feels she has become “invisible to everyone.” Establishing a house-cleaning service, staffed by good-looking male cleaners who provide cleaning with benefits, the film follows her as she learns how to ask for what she wants and encourages other women to do the same.
