Last week’s Friday Fright Nights feature was the slasher Scare Zone, which was set in and around a haunted house attraction. "I'm just glad you decided not to cut me out of your life." Terror Films has revealed an official trailer for an indie horror titled The Andy Baker Tape, a made-during-the-pandemic found footage film. It premiered at a few small festivals last year and debuts on VOD in August. In October of 2020, food blogger Jeff Blake and his half-brother Andy Baker hit the road on a food tour that had the potential to change their lives. They were never seen again. This is their footage... The filmmakers explain a bit more behind this: "The Andy Baker Tape was written, shot, and edited in a 6-month period during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic. Created by a displaced screen actor, an out-of-work Blue Man, an Australian-based sound engineer, and a first-time female producer; this film is a testament to creation and keeping the artistic spirit alive while the rest of the world was forced into hibernation.

The layoff picture at Sony Pictures is clearing, at least a little bit. The studio was required to file a Worker Adjustment And Retraining Nofication with the state, and it has formally declared that 216 will be the head count. That’s hardly the total picture, however, and it mostly covers the number of employees who’ll be pink slipped on the Culver City lot. Here’s the formal notification. We knew this was going to be a painful week at the studio, but we have not gotten the full head count yet. One more person who was let go is John Cacavas, VP Worldwide Theatrical Distribution. Cacavas has worked up the weekend studio estimates for the last 20 years for distribution head Jeff Blake. Thanks in part to plenty of awards season buzz, "American Hustle" just hit over $200 million at the worldwide box office.
Much of that income comes from the United States, where American audiences shelled out $138.7 million for the film. A gaggle of stars including Jennifer Lawrence, Amy Adams, Bradley Cooper, Christian Bale, and Jeremy Renner.
Hearing the news, chairman of Worldwide Marketing and Distribution for Sony Pictures Jeff Blake gushed, "Congratulations go to our filmmakers. David O. However, there's more to come as "American Hustle" has yet to open in Germany, Russia, and Korea.

Every week, The Tomorrow People opens up with a recap of the show's general premise. There are some credits, then they immediately jump to a “previously on” montage before actually starting the episode. We see probably four or five minutes of catching-up plot drippings on a weekly basis. Usually, this isn't necessary because at this point most people who watch the show have been watching it from the beginning and a simple recap would be enough.
For once, The Tomrrow People opens with a refresher course that's actually necessary, considering the fact that the show's been off the air for a month while the Christmas holidays happened and most of America's attention turned to other,...

More and more, executives who know the digital universe are moving up the studio ranks. See Kevin Tsujihara at Warner Bros. and Amy Powell at Paramount, and now Dwight Caines at Sony. He replaces respected Columbia TriStar Motion Pictures' outgoing theatrical marketing president Marc Weinstock, who was himself a rising star when he moved to the studio marketing department after boosting many hits at Sony subsidiary Screen Gems. (He may return to his old stomping grounds.) Caines started at Sony in 1997 as director of market research after helping Chase Manhattan Bank go online. He reports, along with Sony International marketing head Nigel Clark, to Sony vice-chairman and worldwide marketing and distribution chief Jeff Blake. Weinstock and exiting Sony publicity exec Steve Elzer are both fall guys for the studio's recent box office slump. Did the studio's movies really disappoint because of lackluster marketing? I don't think so. But when a studio management team is.

Sony Pictures is very confident in their Spider-Man franchise, and they should be! Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man did very well, and it was embraced by many of the fans. The sequel is set to be released on May 2nd, 2014, and it's also shaping up to be a great looking movie. I have no doubt it's going to be a solidly entertaining sequel. I love the stuff I've seen from the set photos. This most recent Spider-Man reboot definitely got more love from the fans than the new Superman movie did, which I find interesting.
The studio has announced that they will be releasing The Amazing Spider-Man 3 on June 10th, 2016, and part 4 on May 4th, 2018. There's no word on who will be back for these new films, but I'm sure that director Marc Webb, Andrew Garfield (Peter Parker), and Shailene Woodley (Mary Jane) will be back.

We don't call this site NextMovie for nothing. We've got news on release dates for two more sequels to "The Amazing Spider-Man."
Sony Pictures is smartly making sure those Spidey rights don't default and slip back to Marvel anytime soon (a la "Daredevil" and sorta with "Ghost Rider," for example). They've got release dates on the schedule for "The Amazing Spider-Man 2," of course, plus a second sequel and another one beyond that, running all the way into 2018.
We've long had our calendars marked for May 2, 2014, when director Marc Webb's followup to last year's reboot is set to premiere with Andrew Garfield back under the mask. "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" will introduce Paul Giamatti as The Rhino, Jamie Foxx as Electro and is rumored to setup the introduction of The Green Goblin, either in this film, or the next.
So about those next movies. We'd heard about the rebooted version being a trilogy,...

We hope Andrew Garfield didn’t have too many movie roles planned for the next five years or so, because Sony wants to keep him in the Spidey suit for a while yet. Displaying the typical confidence of big studios in keeping their franchises swinging, the company has just announced that The Amazing Spider-Man 3 will arrive on June 10, 2016 and the fourth on May 4, 2018.Yes, even though the second film – due to touch down here next year – isn’t finished and the reaction to the first wasn’t quite as positive as all involved likely hoped, nothing is stopping the superhero momentum.“Spider-Man is our most important, most successful, and most beloved franchise, so we’re thrilled that we are in a position to lock in these prime release dates over the next five years,” said Sony marketing boss Jeff Blake in a statement. Crazy rumors were flying about not too long ago that Sony was looking to unload it's Spider-Man franchise license back to Marvel in order to save money in other aspects. Sony vehemently denied such claims as ridiculous (which they were), but today they've made it painfully clear to any doubters, that they aren't giving up Spider-Man ever, as they've announced release dates for both Amazing Spider-Man 3 and 4.
I guess today's the day for sequel news. Earlier we reported on the Man of Steel sequel, and now Sony is showboating it's hottest franchise around. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is still currently filming, and we've yet to even see so much as a trailer from it (which isn't unexpected since it's release is a year from now), but Sony is already looking ahead. Production has been well underway on Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 for a while now, and it looks like Sony are beyond confident in its success next year. So confident are they that they’re shoring up the franchise, announcing tonight that they are moving forward with a further two films, and setting their release date at two-year intervals down the line.
When we heard last summer that The Amazing Spider-Man would become the first film in a new trilogy, I had a very strong feeling that Andrew Garfield could be the new Spidey for more than just three films.
That feeling started to be confirmed when Shailene Woodley was cast as Mary Jane Watson for next year’s sequel – with Emma Stone returning as Gwen Stacy, you couldn’t help but feel that Mary Jane Watson would have a small role in the first sequel, which would...

Sony has already established the release dates for the third and fourth films in The Amazing Spider-man franchise. So I guess that means there will be a sequel to the sequel The Amazing Spider-man 2, which is coming May 2nd, 2014.
So when can you expect Peter Parker and company to be web-slinging to theaters? The third installment is set for June 10, 2016, and on May 4, 2018 you’ll get to see the fourth movie if we’re not exhausted of Spider-Man by that point.
Chairman of Sony, Jeff Blake shared the announcement with this statement: “Spider-Man is our most important, most successful, and most beloved franchise, so we’re thrilled that we are in a position to lock in these prime release dates over the next five years.”
Let the speculation begin about whether Marc Webb, Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield will be around for a couple more movies.

Los Angeles -- It's a twist worthy of an M. Night Shyamalan film: Where is the prolific writer-director in the marketing of his latest work? "The Sixth Sense" filmmaker has seemingly been sidelined in the promotional efforts for "After Earth," his sci-fi film opening Friday starring Will and Jaden Smith as a father and son stranded on an untamed earth.
While Shyamalan's name is the first to pop up in the credits at the conclusion of the Sony Pictures film, it's been notably missing from trailers, TV commercials and marketing signage – a stark contrast to his previous films like "Unbreakable" and "Lady in the Water," which were prominently billed as being "from writer-director M. Night Shyamalan."
"Night is, without a doubt, a world-class filmmaker who we were thrilled to team up with on this project," said Jeff Blake, Sony's worldwide marketing and distribution chairman, in a statement. "Together, we decided...

Overseas business was booming on the final weekend of 2012: The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey remained in first place by a large margin, though Life of Pi and Les Miserables also put up strong numbers. Meanwhile, Skyfall became the 14th movie ever to reach $1 billion worldwide, and that's before it even opens in China. The Hobbit grossed an estimated $106.5 million from 62 territories this weekend. Its biggest market was Australia, where it debuted to a massive $18.6 million. That's ahead of all three Lord of the Rings movies by a significant margin. Thanks to a holiday boost, The Hobbit's holdover territories dropped just 12 percent on average (about on par with its domestic dip). It remained in first place in Germany (up 16 percent to $16.7 million), the U.K. (up 12 percent to $10.9 million) and France (up 23 percent to $8.6 million). So far, The Hobbit has earned $464 million overseas and $686.7 million worldwide; while it would seem...
