NBC is adding to its slate with a pickup of a drama titled Found.
The series, from All American showrunner Nkechi Okoro Carroll and executive producer Greg Berlanti, follows a public relations specialist (Shameless alum Shanola Hampton) who shines a light on missing persons cases. Found wasn’t part of NBC’s 2022-23 series orders in May but remained in contention for a pickup following the upfronts.
Berlanti Productions and Carroll’s Rock My Soul Productions, Warner Bros. Television and Universal Television produce the series.
NBC has also passed on two other drama pilots, Blank Slate and Unbroken, from last season’s development cycle.
“We are so happy to be working with Greg Berlanti and Nkechi Carroll on this incredible project that is so close to their hearts,” said Lisa Katz, president entertainment scripted content at NBCUniversal. “Found is very compelling while also...

NBC revealed its fall 2022-2023 lineup Monday, which includes “La Brea” occupying the current Tuesdays at 9 p.m. home of “This Is Us,” as well as the “Quantum Leap” reboot series taking the coveted post-“The Voice” launchpad. On a season that includes new coach Camila Cabello, that’s an even nicer slot to occupy as the broadcast network’s splashy new drama.
Mondays in the fall will begin with the two-hour episode of “The Voice” at 8 p.m., followed by “Quantum Leap” as its lead-out at 10.
On Tuesdays, “The Voice” will kickoff the night with its one-hour edition at 8 p.m., leading into “La Brea” at 9. With the end of “This Is Us” just two episodes away, NBC had to hand the slot over to another drama for the fall and made the logical choice with breakout hit “La Brea,” which did well in the spot last fall when...

The pilot is written by The Village creator Mike Daniels and will be directed by Stephanie Laing.
The project, described as a funny and heartfelt drama, chronicles the epic love and lives of two complete strangers, Adam (Rappaport) and Eva (Chando), whose multiple run-ins begin to defy coincidence, leading both to believe in fate. The show breaks the mold by pairing a serialized, stand-up-and-cheer romantic comedy with the wildly diverse and often unexpected human stories of anyone who finds themselves six degrees from Adam and Eva.

Decades ago, the pageantry of the broadcast upfront presentations culminated in the shows’ big attraction — each network unveiling their fall schedule to advertisers. The dissemination of information in the era of the Internet took away the shock and awe of the reveals as the schedules are now announced in advance, while the proliferation of broadband, which allows people to watch TV on their own time, took away the grids’ relevance as an increasing portion of viewing of broadcast shows comes from digital platforms.
Add to that the fact that broadcast networks have become a small portion of media congloms’ portfolio pitch to advertisers and that the development cycle has shifted post-pandemic, with only a portion of this year’s pilots in upfront consideration, and the unveiling of a fall schedule at the May 2022 presentations does not have the importance and urgency it once did.

NBC has picked up the rights to the familial crime drama Bad Blood, which they are developing into a series. The crime drama comes from the writing and producing team of Mike Daniels, Wolfe Coleman, and Jessica Rhoades, who were behind the series The Village. Daniels and Coleman also wrote for the series Shades of Blue. Here’s the synopsis for the series, from Deadline:
Written by Daniels and Coleman, in Bad Blood, when a murder investigation leads an upstanding detective deep into the life of a criminal brother he never knew he had, questions of fate and identity underscore a story that unravels on both sides of the law. While one brother struggles to go straight, the other increasingly finds himself with a foot in two worlds — cracking cases, harboring secrets, and treading the slippery moral slope of putting blood before blue.
This sounds like it could be a good series.

NBC has cut a trio of freshman series.
“Abby’s,” “The Enemy Within” and “The Village” have all been canceled after only a single season on the network.
The former is multicamera comedy which starred Natalie Morales in the title role, as a woman who ran a bar in her backyard. The series, which has only aired seven episodes to date, actually utilized the gimmick of being shot outdoors instead of on a soundstage, the first to do so. Morales was the first-ever female Cuban lead in the format.
The regulars at Abby’s bar, and therefore on the show, included Neil Flynn, Jessica Chaffin, Kimia Behpoornia and Leonard Ouzts. The show came from Josh Malmuth, who was showrunner, and executive producers Michael Schur and David Miner. “Abby’s” was produced by Universal Television, Fremulon, Waila Inc. and 3 Arts Entertainment.

NBC has made a decision on its new midseason series, comedy Abby’s and dramas The Village and The Enemy Within. All three have been canceled, joining sophomore midseason comedy, A.P. Bio, which was axed last Friday.
NBC left the future of Abby’s, A.P. Bio, The Enemy Within and The Village undecided heading into its upfront presentation earlier this month.
“The next season’s schedule is fluid, we want to give those shows a chance to fulfill their run and we’ll take another look at them then,” NBC Co-Chairmen George Cheeks said on NBC’s May 12 upfronts call. “Remember we program 52 weeks a year so there are a lot of slots.”
The decision is not surprising as neither series has been a critical or commercial breakout. All are from Universal TV; The Village and The Enemy Within just wrapped their runs; Abby’s has a couple of more episodes.

Honestly, there’s no better way to announce that you’re feel-good TV than by opening with a big red heart. And thus that’s exactly what “The Village” does in its first few minutes, not the first or last big obvious touch meant to make it clear that while the world might be a scary one, this is fundamentally a show about nice people who like each other.
NBC’s newest aim to tearjerk, created by Mike Daniels, focuses on the residents of a titular (and mythical) New York City apartment building. But unlike other NYC apartment buildings, the Village is special — all the residents go beyond friendship to help each other out because that’s just part of “the whole Village experience,” where the thin walls and tight bonds are only emphasized by the constant CGI zooming through each unit.

Even by the standards of network television, NBC’s “The Village” wears its inspiration boldly and openly: It’s “This Is Us,” except set among the disparate residents of an apartment building rather than the members of a family. “The Village” leans, hard, into the “This Is Us” formula of trauma-as-drama, deriving its tone from its characters perpetually making their way through the worst days of their lives and building moments of emotional catharsis and connection practically before every ad break.
Which is fine, as far as it goes — the medium runs on repetition, with slight alteration, and “This Is Us,” a surprisingly durable hit, is as good a template to crib as any. But, though it has plenty of its own issues, “This Is Us” is a notably well-acted and tonally consistent series. “The Village,” by contrast, veers all over the map and does not boast actors capable of...

HBO has put in development Counterfeit, a half-hour comedy from husband-and-wife writing duo Andrew Gettens and Lauren Mackenzie (Hit & Run) and Jessica Rhoades’ (Sharp Objects) Pacesetter Productions, as part of Rhoades’ first-look deal with the premium cable network.
Written by Gettens and Mackenzie, Counterfeit centers on a couple, desperate to have a child, who learn there’s no way for them to conceive the old-fashioned way. Gettens and Mackenzie will executive produce with Rhoades via her Pacesetter Prods.
Gettens and MacKenzie are a married writing team who started working together after collaborating on a best man speech for MacKenzie’s brother in 2014. They have since risen through the TV ranks to their current position as co-executive...

Women and crime? They mix well.
Christina Hendrix, Rhetta, and Mae Whitman star in Good Girls, the sometimes crazy, sometimes touching series about women who needed a little help, so they took to crime to get their families through the tough times.
