On the morning of Aug. 17, a pall settled over the half-dozen or more Warner Bros. executives gathered for their weekly senior staff meeting in chairman and CEO Kevin Tsujihara's conference room on the Burbank lot. After a quarter-century in which the studio often had dominated the box office, with successive regimes that took one victory lap and then another (first Bob Daly and Terry Semel, then Barry Meyer and Alan Horn), even the most cockeyed optimists

The NY Times has published a new article in which they interviewed Kevin Tsujihara. He's the current CEO of Warner Bros. Entertainment. Late last year, Tsujihara was named the successor to Barry Meyer as CEO and officially took the reins at the beginning of March. In the Times article, Tsujihara reveals that Warner Bros. will soon be announcing a new film series based on a DC Comics property. Brooks Barnes, the author of the piece, follows with an interesting statement regarding Justice League, which you can read in the quote below. I would caution that Barnes' Justice League comment might just be speculation. Though, he could have been privy to that information while interviewing Tsujihara. As for DC Entertainment, cross-studio collaboration to make better use of its comic book characters appears to have accelerated considerably since Mr. Tsujihara took over, in part because he eliminated some management layers. (He has...

One of the most low-key moguls in Hollywood, Barry Meyer will slip from the stage this January, when he relinquishes his title as chairman of Warner Bros. But Meyer’s 42-year tenure at the studio – a remarkable record in its own right, including 14 years at the helm – is notable for being one of the most effective in the studio’s history. Under his stewardship, Warner Bros. has consistently ranked among the industry leaders in box office, syndication sales and television ratings, launching franchises like “Harry Potter,” driving the international success of shows like “Two and a Half Men” all while.

After weeks of internet rumblings and grumblings over his murky future, Jeff Robinov officially parted ways with Warner Bros., where he’d been president of the studio’s Pictures Group for the last seven years, guiding the development of blockbusters like The Dark Knight, Man of Steel, and last year’s Oscar-winner, Argo. Deadline reports that current "Warner Bros. Pictures Group President" Jeff Robinov has quit amid reported tension between he and newly appointed "Warner Bros. Entertainment CEO" Kevin Tsujihara. If you recall, Robinov, then "Home Entertainment Group President" Tsujihara and "Television Group President" Bruce Rosenblum were all vying for departing CEO Barry Meyer's position. In the end, Tsujihara won out over his peers and in the aftermath, Rosenblum was pushed out and many have speculated for weeks about whether a similar fate awaited Robinov. It appears Robinov was tired of waiting himself, as his contract with the film studio is set to expire in December and contract negotiations were reported to be non-existant. Unlike his predecessor, Meyer, Tsujihara is reportedly very active in the film department of "Warner Bros." where Robinov was previously given free reign; combined with rumblings of the cold-shoulder he's given Robinov it's really no wonder why one...

Hollywood's biggest film and television studio, Warner Bros., has a tradition of hanging onto its chairmen for a long time. For two decades after Ted Ashley left the studio in 1980, Terry Semel and Bob Daly ran the TV and move divisions. TV exec Barry Meyer took over as studio chairman in 1999, with Alan Horn and various production chiefs running the motion pictures group, most recently--and effectively--15-year Warners vet Jeff Robinov, who replaced Horn, who is now at Disney. "This is a company that is 90 years old and basically has had just four management teams," Daly told the Lat. "It's the culture of the studio — its history and continuity — that makes Warner Bros. so special. There's such a family feeling there." With 42 years at Warners and 14 as a sturdy and effective chairman, Meyer postponed his retirement until the end of 2013 as three executives have jockeyed for his job since 2010: Robinov,...

Kevin Tsujihara was just announced as the next CEO of Warner Bros. Entertainment. He will assume the position March 1. Former CEO Barry Meyer will remain as chairman through 2013. The competition for the leadership position atop Warner Bros. was cited as a significant factor in the studio's inability to get a Justice League movie and other DC Comics properties up and running for feature film adaptations. It was thought that Motion Pictures Group President Jeff Robinov weighed taking risks with superhero films too risky after the lack of success with Green Lantern and wished to prevent any failures while he was a contender for the CEO position. Now that Home Entertainment Group President Kevin Tsujihara has assumed the role we could see more risk-taking and development from WB, particularly on the superhero front. Although, the other side to that earlier discussion was that if Robinov didn't get the position...

4th Update, 7:20 Pm: Michelle Obama is guest of honor at a fundraiser underway at Warner Bros chief Barry Meyer‘s home. (Frankly, the way he loathes any Hollywood union activism, Meyer seems more of a Republican… But he’s hosted or participated at prior Bambi fundraisers.) Event started at 4 Pm and was a sellout even though ticket prices ranged from $2,500 to $25,000, and about 150 people are expected to attend. Sources tell Deadline that among the guests spotted are Warner Bros Pictures Group president and Office Of The President Jeff Robinov, Warner Bros Home Entertainment Group president and Office of the President Kevin Tsujihara, Warner Bros Television president Peter Roth, Warner Bros Domestic Television Distribution president Ken Werner. Also Warner Bros TV’s most valuable sitcom executive producer and creator Chuck Lorre (The Big Bang Theory, Two And A Half Men, Mike & Molly), CAA co-owner Kevin Huvane, New Line Cinema president Toby Emmerich,...

This story first appeared in the Aug. 8 issue of The Hollywood Reporter magazine. The original deal to make two Hobbit movies was undoubtedly one of the most complicated in Hollywood history, with an array of players including Warner Bros., New Line, MGM and other rights holders. Warners chairman and CEO Barry Meyer is said to have told associates that never in his 40-plus years in the business had there been more meetings in pursuit of a project. Warner Bros. will not disclose the amount of the donation, but it is reportedly "substantial." CEO of the studio, Barry Meyer, will also send word on how their employees can personally give to the victims. This is the first of many steps Warner Bros. has taken to aid in the aftermath of the Aurora tragedy. The studio originally pulled the trailer for...

“The Hollywood Reporter has really hurt their credibility. I don’t understand how they could write that stuff. It isn’t true,” Time Warner told me. The strong denial was about a July 11th THR article claiming that Time Warner chief executive Jeffrey Bewkes recently asked Warner Bros chairman and CEO Barry Meyer to remain on the job beyond his scheduled December 2013 departure date – and the veteran executive declined. THR hangs it on ”a knowledgeable source”. Time Warner explained to me, “This story is a complete fabrication. We could not lie about it. Why would we lie about this? Because it’s going to come out one way or the other. Everybody who talked to the Reporter explained that no part of this is true – but they kept writing. How ridiculous.” As for who replaces Barry Meyer, that is if anyone replaces him, ”There’s not even any need to...

Los Angeles -- The Walt Disney Co. said Thursday that it hired former president of Warner Bros. Entertainment, Alan Horn, to lead its movie studio as chairman, in a personnel move that attempts to right the wrongs that led to blockbuster bomb "John Carter."
Horn oversaw the hugely successful runs of the "Harry Potter" and "The Dark Knight" movies at Warner Bros. and is one of the highest-profile executives in Hollywood. Horn had stepped down at Warner Bros. in April 2011 and had a consulting agreement through 2013. He's also credited as a producer on the upcoming "Hobbit" movies.
Horn starts at Disney on June 11, just under two months after former chairman Rich Ross stepped down in a move widely seen as taking responsibility for "John Carter," the science-fiction movie set on Mars which caused an epic $200 million write-off for Disney.
