In a deal believed to be in the six-figure ballpark, Warner Bros. has snapped up a new and indeed original rom-com that revolves around über-popular dating app, Tinder.
That’s according to The Hollywood Reporter, revealing that Keith Merryman and David A. Newman – best known for weaving a modern love story around Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake’s Friends With Benefits five years ago – will chronicle the Worst Tinder Date Ever, a meet-up between two budding singletons in Los Angeles that quickly devolves into a night to forget.
Infused with action elements, it is, in essence a “date that spirals into a night of one disaster after disaster — and, of course, they fall for one another in the process.” Denise Di Novi and Alison Greenspan are the pair on board to produce, while Niija Kuykendall and Julia Spiro will oversee production on behalf of Warner Bros..

Think Like a Man Too
Written by Keith Merryman and David A. Newman
Directed by Tim Story
USA, 2014
The opening lines of Kevin Hart’s voiceover wax philosophical on the history of Las Vegas, but they’re less an introduction to Think Like a Man Too so much as a restatement of what is obvious to anyone in the audience: this is Kevin Hart’s movie. The massively popular comedian’s ubiquity is no secret (see: Hart discussing his pro wrestling reawakening with Jon Stewart) and his presence in Tim Story’s 2012 half-adaptation of Steve Harvey’s sex advice book Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man all but guaranteed his return for any sequel.
But, beyond the serious box office legs of the original, why a sequel? Think Like a Man begins with Hart’s same overly-enthusiastic narration, though the original sports a quick-witted dissection of monogamy and...

Chicago – Date night at the movies has a new alternative to the summer sci-fi and animation with “Think Like a Man Too.” The sequel to the popular first film has a burst of creative juice from an energetic cast, and dares to do something different with the bachelor party in Las Vegas theme.
Rating: 3.5/5.0
What distinguishes the film is that the women – putting on their own bachelorette event in Las Vegas – in many ways outdo the guys. Part of the is due to the very funny Wendi Covey-McLendon (the grossed out Mom in “Bridesmaids”) who gets her freak on and steals every scene. But also, there is the super-hot personality of Kevin Hart, in collaboration with director Tim Story, who keeps the proceedings loose and entertaining. From the beginning to the end, with Hart and Story the conductors, the guys and gals of “Think Like a Man Too” just want to have fun.

Chicago – Sequels just need a dose of energy and creativity, and then they work. The cast of “Think Like a Man Too” – including Kevin Hart, Regina Hall and Terrence Jenkins – provide that energy, as the gang from the first film heads to Las Vegas for a competing bachelor and bachelorette parties. The audience wins that contest.
Kevin Hart is arguably one of the hottest performers of the moment. Fresh from his record breaking stand-up film of last year, he hit a trifecta in late 2013 and early 2014 with the films “Grudge Match,” “Ride Along” and “About Last Night.” His quick wit and energy also has the character of appreciation, for the collaborator and director Tim Story, and his co-stars Terrence Jenkins and Regina Hall.

Chicago – Steve Harvey seems to be everywhere these days. He’s hosting morning radio programs, headlining “Family Feud,” launching his own daytime talk show and even hawking the latest attractions On Demand. Yet for all of his media exposure, the man has yet to prove that he’s much of an authority on anything. He’s basically an average comic blessed by the kiss of Oprah.
However, since Harvey’s self-help book, “Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man,” was an Oprah-backed bestseller, Harvey now appears to be modeling his revamped persona after Dr. Phil. He offers women tips on how to please men while warning them of which guys to avoid. The film adaptation assembles an ensemble of instantly recognizable stereotypes (“The Mamma’s Boy,” “The Non-Committer,” etc.) who are all laughably obsessed with Harvey’s allegedly inarguable wisdom.

"Think Like a Man" was the biggest surprise romantic comedy hit of the year so far, managing to gross an impressive $91 million off of a movie that only cost $12 million to make. So it shouldn't come as much of a surprise that Screen Gems is lining up a sequel to their hit film.
The production company announced the news today, saying that the first movie's writers, Keith Merryman and David A. Newman, will return to pen the sequel. Will Packer and Steve Harvey will also be returning to produce the project. There's no guarantee that the stars of the film or director Tim Story will be back for more, but we have a gut feeling that they will be. It's not like Gabrielle Union, Chris Brown and Taraji P. Henson really need the work, but "Think Like A Man" did seem like a fun movie to make.

Think Like a Man is a pretty good movie that did pretty damn well at the box office, so you know what that means. Sequel time! Sony Screen Gems announced that they are making a follow-up, and that screenwriters Keith Merryman and David A. Newman will return to write the new script. No word yet on what the sequel will cover, or who if anyone from the cast will be back, but the book that inspired the first movie, Steve Harvey's Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man, does indeed have its own sequel, Straight Talk, No Chaser: How to Find, Keep, and Understand a Man. Here's hoping the movie is based on the chapter "The Cookie: More on Why Men Need It, Why You Should Keep It." "Cookie" means what you think it means.

Apparently, Screen Gems hasn't quite spoken its mind yet.
The studio will continue to think deep (-ish) thoughts as it plans on moving forward with a sequel to this year's ensemble relationship drama, "Think Like a Man," according to The Hollywood Reporter.
"Think Like a Man" was based on Steve Harvey's nonfiction bestseller, "Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man," offering a sort of meta-twist on its source material as it concentrates on four couples in which the women apply the advice of Harvey's book to rein in their men.
Original screenwriters Keith Merryman and David A. Newman will return to pen the sequel. It's currently unknown which actors will come aboard for the second go-round, but rising star Kevin Hart, who just scored a part in the "About Last Night" remake, is a likely candidate.

It’s fair to guess you haven’t see one of this year’s biggest earners — but enough did to warrant a sequel. Oh, and not another on-the-cheap Christian movie starring Kirk Cameron — I’m pretty sure one came out this year, anyhow — but Think Like a Man, a romantic comedy that earned some big dollars despite boasting a predominantly black cast made up of relative unknowns.
And, now, it’s getting a second installment. A press release has announced movement on an untitled follow-up, for which screenwriters David A. Newman and Keith Merryman will be returning to script; Rainforest Films are producing once again and, while no cast members (or director Tim Story) have been roped in for a second go-round, Kevin Hart‘s recent reteaming with Screen Gems makes his return more or less pre-determined. I’d think the rest follow along, every financial thing being taken into account.

While everyone is talking about "The Avengers" becoming a massive, massive hit -- and yes, it is kind of a big deal -- one of the other box office stories this year that got less play has to do with Screen Gems' "Think Like A Man." On paper, it didn't seem like much. An adaptation of Steve Harvey's advice book "Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man," and featuring some names, but not exactly big stars, with Kevin Hart, Romany Malco, Taraji P. Henson, Gabrielle Union, Michael Ealy, J.B. Smoove, Regina Hall and Morris Chestnut, the film surprisingly took the top box office spot for two straight weekends in April and cruised its way to over $90 million at the box office. Nice. And so, a sequel is on the way.

In keeping with the same sense of freshness and inspiration as its observations about relationships, Screen Gems has begun pre-production on a sequel to Think Like A Man, the adaptation of Steve Harvey's self-help book about how men just want to dribble the basketball like this but women just want to get married and drink merlot with their girlfriends like this. The recent habit of filmmakers resorting to self-help books for inspiration has turned in results ranging from uneven – He’s Just Not That Into You – to unsavoury – What to Expect When You’re Expecting – but Think Like A Man’s postmodern sensibility, unafraid of making its author look a little silly, makes it one of the better efforts of its type.
Right out of the gate, Friends with Benefits scribes Keith Merryman and David A. Newman riff on a society that is more sexualised than ever, and therefore purportedly better for men, shifting the balance, so to speak. We meet the principals – the Player (Romany Malco), the Momma’s Boy (Terrence Jenkins), the Dreamer (Michael Ealy), the Non-Committer (Jerry Ferrara), the Happily-Married Man (Gary Owen), and the Happily-Divorced Man (Kevin Hart) – as they discuss gender politics in a silly-mature way that we don’t see nearly enough in contemporary cinema.

I wasn't the least bit surprised walking out of Think Like a Man feeling satisfied with what I'd just seen. Not because it breaks rom-com rules and does something spectacular with the narrative but because it's legitimately entertaining. There are still the typical genre trappings from avoidable misunderstandings and a share of insufferable moments, such as the constant barrage of infomercials promoting comedian Steve Harvey's self-help book "Act Like a Lady and Think Like a Man," which served as the film's inspiration. This, however, is forgivable as the film itself works despite this setback thanks to a strong cast, entertaining script and, of course, Kevin Hart.
The one thing Think Like a Man gets right that so many other movies of this sort get wrong is the casting of legitimately funny people rather than trying to wedge some B-list actor in where the only answer is a series of pratfalls and sight gags,...

The romantic comedy "Think like a Man" comes out Friday (April 20). The film is based on a relationship advice book by comedian Steve Harvey and stars an ensemble cast that includes Kevin Hart, Jerry Ferrara, Meagan Good and Gabrielle Union among many others.
The reviews have been mixed but mostly favorable. Here's what different publications are saying about the PG-13 movie.
Associated Press: "What is essentially a shameless and overlong infomercial for Steve Harvey's dating advice book becomes more tolerable and even enjoyable at times with the help of an attractive, likable cast."
CinemaBlend.com: "It's unclear if writers Keith Merryman or David A. Newman simply couldn't think of a more clever way to adapt the material, or if Harvey himself demanded to hang over the moving like some advice-spewing Cheshire Cat, but 'Think Like A Man' quickly becomes exhausting in adhering to its many lessons, all...

Black comedian Steve Harvey thinks women sit around with girlfriends all day talking about how men make little sense or how they won’t act right or how lazy they are when it comes to love, so he wrote the self-help guide Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man: What Men Really Think About Love, Relationships, Intimacy, and Commitment to help women get in men’s heads and better attract the kind of husband they’re looking for. He’s like the male Oprah and the idea of making a romantic comedy around his self-help book may sound daunting but with Think Like A Man, screenwriters Keith Merryman and David A. Newman have done as good a job of unlocking the source material in a cinematic way as possible. It’s just too bad their writing is TV-sitcom level. The cleverest thing they’ve done is to make...

In 2009, comedian and television personality Steve Harvey gave women the keys to the castle. His best-selling book, Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man, flew off the shelves after day-time talk show appearances allowed him the forum to explain how men simply don’t ‘love’ the same way ladies do. With insight on archetypes like “The Momma’s Boy”, “The Player”, and “The Non-Committer”, Harvey had declared open season for the manipulation of y-chromosomes everywhere on behalf of the fairer sex. Whether you see the work as a legitimate self-help book or comedic tome on relationships, though, I don’t think anyone would have imagined it as a feature length film. But screenwriters Keith Merryman and David A. Newman saw the possibilities and decided to weave a rather generic—albeit very, very funny—romantic comedy around its secrets.

While "Think Like A Man" doesn't usually fall into our regular wheelhouse, we'll likely track this down for one reason -- another chance to see Kevin Hart and Romany Malco trade words. The comic duo last featured together in "The 40-Year-Old Virgin" in a sequence that still remains highly quoted around the Playlist office. So here's hoping they are least bring some of that same energy to their scenes here.
An adaptation of Steve Harvey's self-help book, "Act Like A Lady, Think Like A Man," the film finds Hart playing a relationship expert who has no problems handing out advice, but can't keep his own love life in order. Tim Story ("Fantastic Four," "Barbershop") directs from a script by Keith Merryman and David A. Newman (who both wrote "Friends With Benefits"), and the rest of the cast isn't too shabby either, featuring Taraji P. Henson, Gabrielle Union, Michael Ealy,...

Friends With Benefits
Stars: Justin TImberlake, Mila Kunis, Woody Harrelson, Richard Jenkins | Written by Keith Merryman, David A. Newman | Directed by Will Gluck
Friends with Benefits is afflicted by the same problem suffered by films such as Armageddon andDeep Impact, Megamind and Despicable Me, Dante’s Peak and Volcano or A Bug’s Life and Antz (any other suggestions?). It has been released mere weeks after a similar film with the same ideas, in this instance the Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher film, No Strings Attached. In preparation for this review, I watched that film. This may have been something of a mistake as I’m now struggling to differentiate the two in my mind (to add to the confusion, it turns out that No Strings Attached was originally also called Friends with Benefits in its first draft). Needless to say then, despite the minor superiority of Friends with Benefits,...

Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis hook up in Friends With Benefits, a comedy treading very similar ground to No Strings Attached...
It's a well-worn setup. Boy meets girl in quirky setting, they become friends, then things get rocky.
For Dylan Harper (Justin Timberlake) and Jamie (Mila Kunis), the very clichéd nature of romantic comedies and relationships in general leads to one obvious solution, sex as tennis. Just to get it on, and get it over with, without any of the trappings of a relationship and all the drama that comes along with it. Can these two be friends with benefits without ruining the friendship with emotional entanglements?
I think you know where this is going. If not, I hope you enjoy your first romantic comedy.
Dylan is moving to New York to take a job at GQ, and Jamie is the headhunter that got him to leave his La-based blog...
