Tell us more: Now here's a dance troupe with a difference. We loved Groove Thing for snubbing hip hop and street dance and going full-blown 70s instead; it was so entertaining. Their choreography was really tight, they had loads of attitude, and they were so good that they were basically like mini adults. It helps, of course, that they were so cute; Ben, the only male of the group, was...

On July 4th, 2006, Dread Central opened its doors, and for nearly a decade now we've been bringing you constant horror content every day since. No holidays. No days off. We're always here, and we are always happy to do so. So it's with great pride that we wish you, our readers, a happy anniversary!
Being a writer in the web business is not easy. There are so many bumps along the way that it gets hard to remember the smoother patches. One thing that doesn't change, though, is how absolutely worth it it all is.
You guys give us a platform, and we do our best to honor that gift. We've made each other laugh, screamed over our disagreements (complete with Caps Lock On), and have learned so much from one another. Every day that we get to do this is a blessing, and in an industry where so many websites comes and go,...

It’s a good week for actresses who have appeared on Us comedy drama Californication nabbing film roles. With Addison Timlin already in serious consideration for Stephen Sommers’ supernatural thriller Odd Thomas, now comes word that show veteran Madeline Zima has won the lead in Matt Winn’s Storage. The claustrophobic-sounding thriller follows what happens to a young woman (Zima) who becomes trapped in an underground Storage facility alongside a group of strangers. Because good things rarely happen in those sort of situations, we’re going to guess events go seriously downhill from there."This script is a real page turner with great characters,” executive producer Gareth Jones tells the Hollywood Reporter. “Matt's vision will create an intelligent and tense thriller that will keep audiences guessing till the end."January 2nd director Winn wrote the screenplay with Chris Denne and plans to start directing the film shortly. Zima got her...

Following in the footsteps of her fellow “Californication” co-star Addison Timlin, who is about to land the female lead in “Odd Thomas”, former “Nanny” kid actor turned adult babe Madeline Zima has landed the female lead in director Matt Winn’s British horror/thriller “Storage”. Zima will play “a young woman who discovers a terrifying secret when she becomes trapped in an underground storage facility with a group of strangers.” Winn is directing from a script he co-wrote with Chris Denne. A drama by veteran TV director Gareth Jones that is accomplished if somewhat laboured
An enterprising production, this: shot entirely inside a single London house with a handful of actors, and self-distributed. It's clearly a labour of love for writer-director Gareth Jones: an elaborately-crafted mood piece about a scriptwriter whose own marital difficulties blur with the screenplay he's working on. In truth, it's a somewhat laboured conceit, but the accomplished cast and pin-sharp visuals help things along.

*Full disclosure: A DVD of this film was provided by Image Entertainment for review.
Director: Julius Kemp.
Writer: Sjon Sigurdson.
Harpoon Whale Watching Massacre aka Reykjavik Whale Watching Massacre is a film shot in, yes you guessed it, in Reykjavik, Iceland. The film is also set in this locale and the film was made for $4 million from a trio of production companies including Solar Films. Image Entertainment is distributing this horror title on DVD December 7th and this is a film that you need to take notice of. This film left this reviewer stupefied from the sheer gore if it all. People are harpooned by long distance in the water, there are attempted rapes, and people die by fire multiple times e.g. flare shot to the eye. The visual effects and cinematography are stunning, while the acting, and characterizations leave something to be desired.
The film's tagline is: "the catch of the day.

Yep, you read that headline correctly. While we knew that Srdjan Spasojevi’s uncompromising, brutal and savage A Serbian Film was causing a major stir in the offices of the UK’s British Board of Film Classification (and others, for example Westminster Council’s eleventh-hour banning of the film being shown at this year’s Film4 Frightfest), the truth still comes as somewhat of a harsh reminder that British citizens continue to remain barred from truly exercising their adult freedoms to view fictional and artistic material of their choosing unimpeded.
Today The Guardian reports that A Serbian Film, with debilitating cuts totaling four minutes and eleven seconds in order to obtain a BBFC “18” certificate, is officially the most mutilated film since 1994’s Indian release Nammavar.
While obvious leaps and bounds have been made in terms of the UK censors’ attitude to genre offerings since the quite frankly embarrassing days of the Video Nasties furor,...

There was a catch to this week's decision of the German Federal Film Board to approve more funds to more screenwrights than usual: In average, most of them walk away with less money. No maximum subsidies (30,000, in exceptional cases 50,000) were given out to the 16 approved projects (out of 60). Instead, all screenplays were affirmed for support payments of either 18,000 or just over 14,500 Euros. Four treatments received 7,000 each. Of course, that group included some better-known names, such as Fatih Akin, director of Head-On and The Edge of Heaven, who has teamed up with journalist Hans Hielscher to write a script called Kämpfernatur (Born Fighter), a story based in the world of professional boxing. We also have Aliza Olmert, visual artist and wife of former Israeli prime minister Ehud Olmert, who is trying to get her autobiographical novel A Slice of Sea on the big screen with the help of Brit writer/director Gareth Jones.

A couple of weeks ago, the folks over at Lionsgate held a crimson-drenched event wherein punters could be made up professionally to resemble the scarred victims of the Saw franchise’s villain.
Now, with both Halloween and the release of Saw 3D fast approaching, we’ve got some costume tips from one of the make-up artists involved!
A very simple recipe for blood:
You’ll need:
• Glycerin
• Red eye shadow (such as Mac red pigment)
• Instant coffee
1. Simply dissolve the coffee in some hot water.
2. Pour the glycerin into a bowl (depending on how much blood you want)
3. Add eyeshadow and coffee solution until you get a realistic looking mixture.
4. To make it thicker add corn flour.
Don't use in the mouth, though!
To make a blood that's safe in the mouth I would recommend using corn syrup, food coloring and coffee or chocolate syrup and red food coloring.

On October 2nd the third annual GoreZone International Film Festival got under way at Leicester Square’s Prince Charles Cinema; and for the first time ever, Dread was on the scene to check it out. Our report follows along with condensed reviews of six of the films shown over the weekend.
Blood Night: The Legend of Mary Hatchet, Breath of Hate, Hyenas, Cyrus: Mind of a Serial Killer, New Terminal Hotel, Darfur, and Devil's Playground are all included, but first a recap of the event and awards show.
In the face of fellow Leicester Square-based festival and horror heavy hitter, Film4 Frightfest, GoreZone (or Gz, as the magazine has rebranded) would appear to be the underdog. Having experienced the festival first-hand, however, it’s pleasing to discover a level of intimacy and audience connection that is easily lost amongst the hustle and bustle of many larger profile fests, bolstered by...

If there’s one thing we love around here, it’s horror memorabilia. From models and figurines to posters and clothing, horror collectibles are always the most badass. It was quite a nice surprise, then, to be contacted by artist Christopher Ott, who gave us the heads-up on his team’s newest endeavour: London 1888.
Being very much in its infancy, the company currently only offers two designs in both t-shirt and poster format – one, an impressive A Nightmare on Elm Street offering (the poster of which is a Limited Edition) and the second, a kickass They Live illustration.
If the quality is indicative of what’s to come, then I think it’s safe to say that we’ll all be keeping an eye on them as they intend to launch their first major line during the next few weeks. You can do so at the official London 1888 website and...

Sigh. It seems that every time devotees of the horror genre begin to gain some headway in terms of freedom to choose what they watch, something like this comes along to remind us that the powers-that-be out there would rather make that decision for us. Case in point: The Irish Film Classification Office’s recent decision to ban Screen Entertainment/101 Films’ DVD and Blu-ray re-release of Meir Zarchi’s infamous I Spit on Your Grave.
From the Press Release:
The Irish Film Classification Office (Ifco) has banned the DVD re-release of the highly controversial 1978 horror film I Spit On Your Grave starring Buster Keaton’s granddaughter, Camille Keaton, in Ireland. UK fans of the infamous cult film, originally released under the name Day of the Woman in 1978 and later re-titled to I Spit on Your Grave, will be able to purchase the ultimate collector’s edition on DVD and Blu-ray as of today.

Quick little piece of breaking info from FrightFest. Adam Green and Joe Lynch have revealed that they're working on an anthology flick called Chillerama, which will hopefully be released next year.
Chillerama concerns the final night in existence of the very last drive-in theater in America in which the owner decides that before everything closes for good, he wants to show four of the most -- to quote Joe Lynch -- "fucked up" movies in existence.
Said movies come in the following forms:
"Wadzilla" by Adam Rifkin - A man goes for therapy to increase his sperm count with horrific results. This one will feature creature effects from Killer Klowns from Outer Space's Chiodo Brothers and apparently a scene in which a giant sperm monster attempts to impregnate the Statue of Liberty.
"I Was a Teenage Werebear" by Tim Sullivan - We all know what werewolves are, and if...

That's right, kids! Our man Gareth Jones wrote in from the show to let us know that during the Hatchet II Q&A Tony Todd revealed that he will indeed be reprising his role as the Reaper in Final Destination 5!
