Incredible to think that after the plethora of Stephen King film adaptations over the years (this year alone boasts five), that his beloved Horror story It, has – until now – not had a big screen retelling. The nearest we have gotten is the flawed but ambitious Tommy Lee Wallace Mini-Series from 1990, which featured an iconic turn by Tim Curry as Pennywise the Dancing Clown. However, if you only have this version of the story in mind upon entering Andres (or Andy as he is credited) Muschietti’s adaptation, you may be a little startled, as this is far darker, far more intense and truly the king of King adaptations.
Utilising the dark cinematography (by Chung-Hoon Chung) and CGI-aided scares that helped him make a mark with his 2013 debut Mama, Muschietti beautifully and savagely captures the essence of the source material, while leaving a distinctive imprint of his own. Set mostly in...

Animator and filmmaker Mike Judge hosted the ceremony, which honored the 2015 inductees into the Texas Film Hall of Fame, including Tommy Lee Jones, Luke Wilson, Bonnie Curtis, Guillermo del Toro, Christopher Evan Welch and L.M. Kit Carson. During producer Bonnie Curtis' segment, her 17-year partner Stephen Spielberg popped up on the screen to offer her congratulations and many thanks for her hard work over the years. "We've shared some of the greatest moments of our careers together," said Spielberg. Curtis has worked with Spielberg on his films "Saving Private Ryan," A.I," "Minority Report" and "The Lost World: Jurassic Park." Take a look at Spielberg's touching tribute above. Is it us, or does he give himself a little pause after saying.

Doctor Who, Sherlock, Game Of Thrones and more... As nominated by Den Of Geek writers, here are our favourite TV episodes of 2014
Whatever else it's brought with it, 2014 has been an exemplary year for television. There's so much good stuff around that keeping on top of it has become a job of work. How many of us have started silently dreading hearing enthused recommendations from pals about new series? Who else has developed a nervous tick whenever they hear the words "Have you been watching...". There's simply Too. Much. TV.
Too much, however, is better than not enough. Too much enables debate, and better than that, it enables the ultimate geek pursuit: list-making. A fortnight ago, we asked our writers to nominate their favourite television episodes of the year and have been busily collating their votes and happily clicking Excel buttons ever since.

Given how long it’s been since we saw a solid-gold, inarguable instant classic from Steven Spielberg, many have come to feel that the director has lost his way somewhat since his last masterpiece, Saving Private Ryan, releasing films in its wake that were distinctly average (The Terminal, War of the Worlds, War Horse), disappointingly underwhelming (A.I.), and downright awful (Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull), with only a few legitimate greats in between (Minority Report, Catch Me If You Can, Munich, The Adventures of Tintin).
Perhaps we simply have come to warrant too much from the world’s most famous director, and the expectations for his Abraham Lincoln biopic were appropriately shifted, anticipating the possibility that Spielberg’s oft-indelicate direction might stifle even the most dedicated Daniel Day-Lewis performance. It’s a pleasure to report, then, that his Lincoln feels absolutely nothing...

Some big surprises and lots of humor kept the 70th Annual Golden Globes fun, interesting and fast-moving Sunday night in Hollywood. On the film side, Argo was named Best Picture of the Year - Drama, while Les Miserables was named Best Picture of the Year - Comedy or Musical, with Daniel Day-Lewis, Hugh Jackman, Jessica Chastain, Jennifer Lawrence and Anne Hathaway among the stars taking home trophies. On the TV side, Showtime's Homeland scored big and so did HBO's Girls, with Lena Dunham, Claire Danes and Damien Lewis among those recognized.

After what feels like the longest wait in Oscar history, this year’s nominations for the 85th Academy Awards have finally been unveiled! Seth MacFarlane, creator of Family Guy and Ted, was joined by actress Emma Stone, star of Superbad and The Amazing Spider-Man, who let rip with the nominations at 5:30am at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theatre in Beverly Hills.
Throughout Oscar history, the nominations have always been announced by members of the Academy themselves, which makes MacFarlane’s appearance here something special. It was announced earlier last year that MacFarlane would host the 85th Academy Awards.
Arguably the biggest disappointment to have emerged from this year’s nominations is the Best Picture snubbing of Skyfall, the latest entry in the James Bond franchise, a film which was considered to have been a serious contender. If Skyfall were to have been nominated for Best Picture, it would...

Ang Lee’s reaction to the 11 Academy Award nominations Life Of Pi received this morning: “I am deeply honored and frankly a little overwhelmed by all of the nominations that ‘Life of Pi’ has received this morning. Australian effects house Fuel VFX has added a British Academy Film Awards nomination for its work on Ridley Scott.s Prometheus following its recent nod from the Visual Effects Society.
Fuel co-founder Paul Butterworth was nominated alongside non-Fuel nominees Richard Stammers, Charley Henley, and Trevor Wood. Fuel, one of the three lead visual effects vendors on the latest installment in the Aliens franchise, delivered more than 200 visual effects shots. The company, which is now part of Animal Logic after facing a near-catastrophic cash-crunch last year, created the .Orrery. This is the time of year when all manner of people and media post their best/worst selections of the year. The main purpose is to elicit outrage or agreement or bewilderment regarding the selections. Anyone can play. So I guess I will with these caveats. I’m not saying that what follows is the best of any the categories. It’s simply what I most enjoyed. Some books, TV shows, music, movies I simply didn’t experience (e.g. Argo and The Hobbit) or didn’t enjoy as much as those listed (i.e. the latest Dresden book, The Dark Knight Rises, The Amazing Spider-Man). I’m only touching on what was new in 2012 – not those things I’ve enjoyed from other years and enjoyed again in 2012.
Caveats away. Let’s get down to it.
Doctor Who: The mid-season finale didn’t please me as much as I hoped.

Deciding on the "best" films of any particular year is never an easy task, especially depending on how seriously you take that task. On the final page of this list of my top ten films of 2012 I've included links to my previous top ten lists from the years 2003-2011 and while the majority of the films on those lists remain favorites of mine, it's quite evident how much more seriously I take this process from one year to the next, not to mention how many more films I actually see each year. Going through the list of films I saw in 2012, I was pleased to see how much easier I found it to come up with movies I considered candidates for my top ten. Two thousand and eleven offered several good films, but I had a hard time making a list of ten I considered "great". This year, from numbers...

The SAG nominations have been announced, and the 2013 roster of nominees includes the casts of "Argo," "Lincoln" and Silver Linings Playbook."
The Screen Actors Guild awards are handed out to the best actors and ensembles in film. "Silver Linings Playbook," "Argo" and "Lincoln" were joined in the Best Ensemble category by "Les Miserables" and "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel." Presumed contenders like "Zero Dark Thirty," "Django Unchained," "Flight" and "Moonrise Kingdom" were left out. According to Awards Daily blogger Sasha Stone, screeners for "Zero Dark Thirty" and "Django Unchained" didn't arrive in time for SAG voters.
For Best Actor, SAG singled out Oscar favorites Daniel Day-Lewis ("Lincoln"), Denzel Washington ("Flight"), John Hawkes ("The Sessions"), Hugh Jackman ("Les Miserables") and Bradley Cooper ("Silver Linings Playbook"). Joaquin Phoenix, who many felt gave one of the best performances of the year in "The Master" was snubbed, putting his awards season future in some amount of jeopardy.

Abraham Lincoln was a hell of a president, and this year he's being treated as such. In 2012 alone he's had two movies dedicated to his life. The first, "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter," was a mostly fictional account (I think) about the president's tireless campaign against undead bloodsuckers. The second, Steven Spielberg's "Lincoln" (opening wide this week), takes a more factual approach to his life, focusing on the last four months of his presidency and his attempts to get the thirteenth Amendment to the Constitution ratified. As far as defining moments in the American character go, few are as important as this. But is this biographical tale, anchored by a lead performance by Daniel Day-Lewis in the title role, a thrilling dip into the past or a really long History Channel special? Let's find out. Pro: Daniel Day-Lewis Yes, his Lincoln voice is sort of weird, but considering the amount...

Who Should Play the Demented Industrialist?
The Green Goblin wasn't the first Spider-Man villain and he's not the most powerful, but the colorful character has become Spidey's signature nemesis over the years, appearing in just about every board game, video game, and animated series based upon the wall-crawler's exploits, as well as featuring prominently in Sam Raimi's trilogy (played with great aplomb by Willem Dafoe). Norman Osborn, the wealthy industrialist who first took on the mantle of the Green Goblin, did not figure prominently in this summer's The Amazing Spider-Man, but director Marc Webb laid the groundwork for his big screen return, setting up Osborn's company, Oscorp, as the manufacturer of the biotech that inadvertently created both Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield) and the Lizard (Rhys Ifans) and also inserting a tag scene at the end that shows a mysterious figure that may or may not be Norman Osborn.

The "RoboCop" remake just started shooting and a set pic featuring Joel Kinnaman in what appears to be the newfangled cyborg get-up of Officer Alex J. Murphy has already emerged. Pass your fanboy judgment accordingly.
Some celebrities handle the paparazzi with their fists (or at least a flick of the middle finger); Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone use them to pimp their charities of choice. See how the "Spider-Man" couple work an illicit photo op to their advantage.
Oddly enough, Gollum does look a bit younger and healthier. A new trailer for "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" is due this week, and Hypable has a few stills that are reportedly screencaps from the latest look at Peter Jackson's latest Middle-earth epic.
Well, that's a wrap for the Toronto International Film Festival for another year.

With the passing of Labor Day, I can say that the summer movie season of 2012 has come and gone. Now comes the time to examine what this summer season meant to us, the movie lovers, and to Hollywood, the ones that profited (or not) from the films.
For this endeavor I don’t want to look too closely at the creative stamp of a movie as judging whether a movie is good or bad for you is subjective and entirely personal. Instead, I want to cast a stronger eye towards the box office results and try to augur what it means for us. Will we see a sequel, or has a profitable movie made enough of a dent in the zeitgeist that we’ll get to see a bunch of copycats in two years time? That’s the sort of thing that I’m interested in with my analysis.
So where do we begin?...

CinemaCon has brought a lot of comic book movie goodness to the fans out there, and Sony definitely delivered when it came time for their panel.
In a summer with arguably two of the most anticipated superhero movies of all time, "The Avengers" and "The Dark Knight Rises," Marc Webb's reboot, "The Amazing Spider-Man," may have the most ground to cover with fans.
For "The Amazing Spider-Man," Sony debuted new footage, in addition to showing off some of the 3-D effects. The sizzle reel was generally well received, with some praising new Pov shots in particular. Similar shots had stirred controversy nearly a year ago when the first trailer for "The Amazing Spider-Man" premiered.

Around a year ago I was forcefully indignant over the news that Steven Spielberg had decided to make an explosions heavy, brainless, post-Transformers machine vs. humans summer spectacle Robopocalypse instead of his forever promised biopic of the 16th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln. But one month later all was forgiven when Spielberg finally manned up and announced to the world he was going to make Lincoln, surprisingly (but rather excitedly) with Daniel Day-Lewis instead of Liam Neeson and that it would film in the fall of 2011.
Fast forward to Sept 2012 and with Lincoln now only months away from filming with the likes of Tommy Lee Jones, Joseph-Gordon Levitt, Sally Field, John Hawkes and Hal Holbrook supporting, I no longer have any grievance with the idea that ‘the beard’ is still planning on making his mass crowd-pleasing epic. We are finally getting Lincoln, Spielberg can pretty much play...

Brian Michael Bendis and Mike Oeming's tweeting odyssey on the "Powers" set continued this morning, and it seems as though the look of the new TV series may be having an impact on the comics. Bendis shared some sketch links, while Oeming described what the show is going for.
Los Angeles-based tweeters seemed a little confused last night, thanks to a riot that broke out at the premiere for a documentary called "Electric Daisy Carnival Experience." Marc Bernardin shared some insight into that, while Brian Denham mourned the loss of a naked Wolverine sketch he drew last week at Comic-Con International. Find out what happened and how much it sold for down below.
I'm @brianwarmoth, and this is the Twitter Report for July 28, 2011.
@BrianDenham I drew a pretty badass pic of a nude Wolverine on a sketch cover at Comic Con. My buddy sold it for $5 when I left the table.

Source: FilmShaft - Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tommy Lee Jones And James Spader In talks For Spielberg’s ‘Lincoln’
Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tommy Lee Jones and James Spader are in talks to star in Steven Spielberg’s biopic of Abraham Lincoln. Spielberg has Lee Jones pencilled in for the role of Thaddeus Stevens, a Pennsylvanian Republican congressman who was instrumental in the abolition of slavery, while ‘Inception’ star Gordon-Levitt is being considered for the portrayal of Lincoln’s son Robert Todd in the film, simply titled Lincoln.
These high-profile stars would join an already impressive line-up, with Daniel-Day Lewis confirmed as the eponymous President, and Sally Field on board as wife Mary Todd Lincoln. As we at FilmShaft reported last year upon Day-Lewis’ confirmation for the role, the film will focus on ‘the political collision of Lincoln and the powerful men of his cabinet on the road to abolition and the end of...
