Is one renaissance man about to take on another? Apparently so, as IndieWire has confirmed that Andrew Haigh has been tapped to helm a highly anticipated adaptation of Walter Isaacson’s lauded 2017 biography of Leonardo Da Vinci. Paramount had initially won the film rights when the book was first released and even cast the world’s 2nd most famous Leonardo, Di Caprio, in the lead role. Unfortunately, its version eventually went into turnaround allowing Universal to swoop in (perhaps with the use of Da Vinci’s ornithopter) and create a fresh package with Haigh. Initially it was announced that Christopher Hampton would be scripting the piece, but with Haigh now onboard, Universal looks to be giving him full creative oversight, perhaps in an effort to summon the spirit of Da Vinci himself.

Following the success of The Curse, Emma Stone and Nathan Fielder are again teaming with A24 to produce Checkmate, a movie based on the chess world’s biggest scandal.
Chess can be absorbing subject material for drama, whether it’s a glossy period piece such as Netflix’s The Queen’s Gambit, or more left-field takes like 2013’s Computer Chess. Perhaps chess movies are like Robin Hood projects: there are always several in development in Hollywood and it becomes a strategic game of, well… erm, chess to see who can put one together first.
The latest chess project is being produced by Emma Stone and Nathan Fielder, and A24 have reportedly spent a seven-figure sum to secure the rights to it. Why the buzz? Well, the film will be based on the biggest scandal the chess world has seen in recent years, dramatising the events of the ‘controversial 2022 head-to-head match between Grandmasters Magnus Carlsen,...

As other programs and programmers increasingly take the rubbernecking approach to documentaries, PBS stalwart Frontline continues to hold the line with thought-provoking investigations on everything from The Power of Big Oil to Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter. This week, the long-running docuseries premieres one of its most ambitious undertakings, the result of a partnership with The Associated Press: Documenting Police Use of Force, which is certain to touch a nerve, especially as police departments across the country are scrutinized for their handling of protests.

On Monday, the Supreme Court denied Tesla CEO and X owner Elon Musk‘s appeal to get rid of his “Twitter sitter.” According to the terms of the Securities and Exchange Commission ruling, a lawyer will need to preapprove Musk’s posts related to Tesla on X.
The terms came in 2018 after Musk tweeted that he had funds to make Tesla a private company. However, no evidence of the “secured” funding was found. The SEC claimed Musk violated securities law, saying his tweets were “materially false and misleading.”
Since the settlement, Musk has tried to rid himself of his “Twitter sitter.” The lawyer in question has yet to be named. No person has stepped up to take responsibility for the role.
Last year, Musk also tried to modify the terms of the settlement. A federal appeals court denied his motion. Musk’s lawyers defended his bid by claiming their client...

X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, has renewed its content partnership with the NFL.
The multi-year agreement between the pro football league and the digital platform dates back to 2013.
“X will continue to delight users with NFL in-progress game highlights including all touchdowns moments after they happen in the game,” read a statement from X shared on the micro-blogging site. “Under this multiyear deal extension, the NFL and X will bring even more custom content for brands to sponsor in the form of co-branded highlights, sponsored Spaces, polls, and other creative formats. Let’s go!”
Linda Yaccarino, CEO of X, celebrated the partnership extension by sharing a message of her own.
“A dream team of epic proportions!” she posted. “Whether you’re at the game or streaming it live, the energy from fans is contagious on X — sharing the thrill of every tackle and touchdown as it happens!

The beloved sitcom Seinfeld was famously never canceled, because co-creator Jerry Seinfeld and his fellow cast members decided they should walk away after nine seasons, leaving viewers wanting more. But for about a decade, Seinfeld has continuously complained that “political correctness” is stifling comedy of the kind that made him a household name and fabulously wealthy.
As long ago as 2015 — right around when our contemporary ideas of “cancel culture” were beginning to take shape on social media — Seinfeld was talking about not playing college campuses for fear of students labeling his material racist or sexist.

Ghost of Tsushima was an excellent final entry from Sucker Punch Studios at the late stage of the PlayStation 4 lifecycle. Many would argue that the team has nailed the combat, but the open world feel and atmosphere are often overlooked.

Plot: Cinderella is pushed too far by her evil stepsisters and stepmother, which causes her to switch out her glass shoes and use the assistance of her Fairy Godmother to seek bloody vengeance.
Review: Everyone knows what they’re in for when it comes to these movies at this point, right? I don’t need to lay out the schpeal about public domain horror? Good, because it seems as though these films are here to stay. And in instances like this, I kind of get it. A twisted take on a tale that’s been told a thousand times? We saw Seth Grahame-Smith do something similar with his Pride, Prejudice and Zombies and even Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter. So it’s not like this is a brand-new concept. The real question remains: how well does this film do with transforming the Cinderella story into one of horror?

Fairy tales, in their undiluted forms, need no help when it comes to being creepy and horrifying. However, the Disneyfication of these classic stories makes it rather easy to forget their morbid beginnings. In the case of Cinderella, most modern adaptations of this quintessential rags-to-riches tale rarely bring up the violent aspects. All of that has been long removed in favor of safer elements, such as fairy godmothers and anthropomorphic mice. Yet, when reimagining the flaxen servant-turned-princess as someone who seeks “bloody vengeance,” Tom Jolliffe looked to the past; the Cinderella’s Revenge screenwriter found inspiration in the character’s gruesome roots.
The Brothers Grimm did not come up with Cinderella (or Aschenputtel) all on their own, but their familiar variation provides part of the source material for Cinderella’s Revenge. Charles Perrault is also credited, seeing as his French version (Cendrillon) was the first to feature the fairy godmother,...

Soulslike games are riddled with intricate details wrapped in layers of mystery and lore. As a result of this mystery, fans of these games often find themselves digging deep to find more details. Sometimes these details lead them to craft unheard theories related to fan-favorite characters; other times they speak of connections between two big games. As one fan theory suggests, Elden Ring and Demon’s Souls might be related.
Elden Ring is a big game, and numerous fans have come up with a bunch of theories about it over the years. A number of them turn out to be true; others prove false, but that does not discourage fans from continuing digging. Imagine their excitement when they realized that maybe FromSoftware based one of the endings in Elden Ring on their first soulslike.

Hack-and-slash games have been very popular among gamers for quite some time now. These games feature a type of gameplay that focuses on combat with melee-based weapons like swords or blades. Blizzard Entertainment’s Diablo series is well-known for popularising this genre but these series lacked something that fans have been craving for years. The hack-and-slash game is fun but it really needs a first-person camera to make things much more exciting. Many players have attempted to make this possible using various mods but Blizzard has never acknowledged this idea.

Acclaimed writer John Logan will adapt Pulitzer Prize-winning author Cormac McCarthy’s “Blood Meridian” novel into a feature film for director John Hillcoat.
Hillcoat is also producing along with Keith Redmon for New Regency. Cormac McCarthy’s son, John Francis McCarthy, will serve as executive producer, while Cormac, who died in June 2023, will receive a posthumous executive producer credit.
“It’s incredibly exciting to have John Logan on board,” John Francis said. “Very reassuring in the seemingly long list of good news concerning what was originally such an intimidating undertaking.”
The project was originally set up with director James Franco and star Russell Crowe in 2016, but fell apart over rights to the book.
Based on historical conflicts along the Texas-Mexico border in the 1850s, “Blood Meridian” follows the journey of the Kid, a fourteen-year-old from Tennessee, as he navigates the brutal and harrowing landscape of this new era.

Cormac McCarthy’s “Blood Meridian” has been one of the trickiest classic novels to adapt for the screen, but it now has a three-time Oscar nominee who may finally crack it.
John Logan, the writer of “Gladiator,” “The Aviator,” “Sweeney Todd,” “Skyfall,” and the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic “Michael,” has been tapped to adapt “Blood Meridian” into a feature film.
Last year, New Regency announced it was developing a feature film based on the 1985 Western novel, and the studio attached John Hillcoat — who previously directed McCarthy’s “The Road” — to direct the film. After rebranding Twitter as X, Elon Musk is bringing his favorite letter to the small screen. What does X TV claim to offer? The company’s CEO Linda Yaccarino touted its benefits on Twitter Tuesday, writing that while it’s still being built, the features of the service will include a “trending video algorithm” (perhaps similar to the “for you” list of tweets or the trending topics bar), “AI-powered topics,” “cross-device experience”, “enhanced video search,” “effortless casting,” and “wide availability.” From the small ...

In what will surely come as a huge shock to the general public and cause no small number of monocles to pop out, Amazon MGM Studios has elected to retitle Zoë Kravitz's feature directing debut, which was previously going under the not-at-all provocative moniker "Pussy Island." Kravitz's film will instead be released as "Blink Twice," which for me conjures memories of David Tennant's 10th Doctor desperately warning Carey Mulligan not to blink around the Weeping Angels in the classic modern "Doctor Who" episode "Blink."
That association isn't entirely inappropriate, either. "Blink Twice," like "Blink," is a potpourri of horror, mystery-thriller, and humor with an English actor at its core. In this case, it's Naomi Ackie of "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker," "Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody," and "Master of None" season 3 fame starring as a young woman who accompanies a tech billionaire -- played by Kravitz's current real-life significant other,...

John Oliver dedicated his latest episode of Last Week Tonight to UFOs and started talking about the topic, making a crazy joke about Hugh Jackman.
“Our main story tonight concerns UFOs,” Oliver said on the HBO late-night show. “They brought us great album art, classic movie moments, and, of course, Hugh Jackman. I can’t prove it yet, but I’m close.”
Oliver then said Kesha, Russell Crowe, and Jimmy Carter have claimed they’ve seen UFOs. The comedian went on to open dialogue to the history of sightings in the sky that sometimes have simple explanations.
“There clearly should be room for sober assessment of UFO sightings,” Oliver said later on in the show. “I will acknowledge that when you do that, the answers you get can sometimes end up being less fun.”
Oliver was talking about an alleged UFO sighting through a night vision recording that was thought to actually be commercial drones.

Professional boxer Ryan Garcia often grabs the spotlight not only because of his sport but also because of his controversial remarks allegedly targetting influential personalities via social media. Recently, he made news by claiming Kanye West refused to accompany him because of his Sean Diddy Combs, and before that, he targeted several celebs – from Tom Hanks to Diddy Combs. Here’s everything you need to know about it.
On Saturday night, Garcia faced Devin Haney at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. When fans speculated that Garcia might not even make it to the ring because of his questionable social media activities, the boxer showed everyone by scoring 12 12-round majority decision over the lightweight champion Haney. However, Garcia did not win the title as he failed to meet the 140-pound limit.

Tesla and its CEO, Elon Musk, have capitalized on a little-known provision in corporate law to pursue the restoration of Musk’s $56 billion pay package.
This untested maneuver has the potential to embroil the company in legal disputes once again.
The electric vehicle manufacturer proposed subjecting Musk’s 2018 remuneration agreement to a shareholder vote despite its invalidation by a Delaware judge in January. Tesla has leveraged a lesser-known section of Delaware’s corporate law that empowers companies to correct procedural flaws that would otherwise render their boardroom decisions null and void.
Tesla acknowledged that the special board committee responsible for its approval could not anticipate how Delaware law would interpret this unconventional course of action.
The provision was primarily intended to serve as a “Band-Aid” for minor errors in boardroom proceedings rather than to overturn significant court rulings.
Tesla’s proposal cites the discontent expressed by numerous shareholders regarding the...

Mark Zuckerberg has seen that photo of him circulating on social media!
On Thursday (April 18), the 39-year-old Facebook founder posted a video on Instagram where he announced the launch of the new version of Meta AI.
After sharing the video, someone Photoshopped a screengrab of Mark to soften his appearance, made him a tad tanner, and added in a beard – which immediately went viral with some people thirsting over the fake Mark. (You can see the photo here!)
Once the Photoshopped image went viral, Mark reacted.
Keep reading to find out more…“Okay who did this?” Mark wrote on The Shade Room’s Instagram post about the altered image asking if he should grow out the beard.
Find out why Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk‘s cage match fight was cancelled.

Tesla’s stock crashed this week following the announcement that the electric vehicle company would be laying off 10 percent of its staff. If things weren’t already looking grim for Elon Musk’s flagship company, it was just ordered to recall nearly 4,000 of its recently released Cybertrucks over an accelerator pedal issue that could result in actual crashes.
On Friday, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (Nhtsa) issued a mandatory recall of 3,878 Cybertrucks — the futuristic, stainless steel beasts that have become the subject of widespread public mockery and consumer disappointment...

In the movie Dream Scenario, starring Nicholas Cage, a biology professor named Paul Matthews starts appearing in the nightmares of random people all over the country.
None of these people understand why, nor do they know anything about Paul beyond recognizing his unusual face -- which gives them flashbacks of the terrible dream.
Paul himself is perplexed because he has not intentionally done anything to these people, nor is he a Freddy Krueger-type monster who controls a higher plane of existence.
But when Paul becomes infamous for his cameo appearances in peoples' dreams, he begins to see scorn, fear, hatred, and eventually violence coming from people who hold him personally responsible for their nightmares.
As I finished Dream Scenario, I realized this is what some right-leaning celebrities must feel like.

AI continues to expand with new methods of content creation, leading to the loss of many jobs and causing hardship for artists. The idea of this kind of technology being available is very scary. An old, fictitious PlayStation 9 trailer depicted the console’s features as bunkers at the time.
However, considering the emergence of new technologies such as Elon Musk’s Neuralink, which can literally implant chips into your brain, this trailer may not have been entirely inaccurate. Lucky for you, this is far from happening; at least 20 years have to pass for this kind of advancement.
Sony Wants the PlayStation to Embrace New Forms of Entertainment A PlayStation 6 could be coming sometime in 2028.

From the moment the film was announced a year ago, “Abigail” has been marketed as a remake of “Dracula’s Daughter,” the 1936 Universal Pictures curio. So it’s no spoiler to say that the title character of “Abigail” is…Dracula’s daughter. Yet if you went in not knowing that, it might be the only real surprise in the movie, apart from what a brutally monotonous blood-vomiting genre mashup it is.
For a while, we think we’re watching a standard kidnap thriller. It opens with Abigail (Alisha Weir), who is 12, on the ballet stage rehearsing “Swan Lake,” a most definite vampire homage, since Tchaikovsky’s gorgeous heart-swelling score is the same music that played over the opening credits of the 1931 Bela Lugosi “Dracula.” That lyrical entré ends in about three minutes, as the kidnappers, all overstated profane synthetic crudeness, jam themselves into a van and abscond with Abigail, who they...

The month is a prime time to have Disney+, what with the ongoing and buzzy success of “X-Men 97” and upcoming “Marvel Studios’ Assembled” going behind the scenes of the reboot series. May is of course the month of Star Wars, and the House of Mouse will celebrate with “Star Wars: Tales of the Empire” on May 4. Disney is also home to BBC America’s “Doctor Who,” which returns for a highly-anticipated 14th season with Ncuti Gatwa stepping into the Tardis as the new Doctor (he stepped into the role in December 2023 as part of the series’ beloved Christmas special tradition).

Remember how the first Aquaman came out and was a colossal success? It really seemed like everything was finally on track for the character after years of jokes and abuse. Then tragedy…or well…insanity struck. The sequel was plagued with reshoots, scheduling conflicts, and an ever-changing landscape of the Dceu. Plus there’s the Amber Heard of it all, which has grown increasingly complicated. Today on DC Revisited, we’re getting into it all, as we dive into James Wan’s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
Before the first Aquaman had found massive success, Warner Bros was already hard at work on developing a sequel. Jason Momoa himself pitched a story to the studio, wanting to be more involved in the sequel’s development. This makes sense as Momoa really was the face of Aquaman and had shifted the perception of the character from a blonde man in tights...

The Morning Show writer, showrunner and executive producer Charlotte Stoudt joined Deadline’s Contenders TV event Sunday to discuss the intricacies of running a faux newsroom, ripping stories straight from the headlines and the upcoming Season 4.
In Season 3, the news show’s future is questioned when a tech mogul takes an interest in the parent network, Uba. Unexpected alliances form, secrets are weaponized, and everyone is forced to confront their moral judgments in and out of the newsroom.
“It’s a gift to create characters that people love and will watch do very flawed, messy and sometimes awful things,” Stoudt said about the joys of the series getting renewed at Apple TV+. “I got to come in and think about how to torture them a little more. And I think the other thing that I love about the show is that it has the opportunity to speak to the moment.

The Breakthrough Prize Ceremony, also known as “the Oscars of Science,” is an awards show unlike any other.
Founded and funded by Silicon Valley titan Yuri Milner and his artist wife Julia Milner, Google co-founder Sergey Brin, 23andMe co-founder Anne Wojcicki, and Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and his Chan-Zuckerberg Initiative co-founder Priscilla Chan, the Breakthrough Prize recognizes “scientists changing the world” with award statuettes and sizable cash prizes. And on Saturday night, at the ceremony’s 10th edition — the second in a row held on the roof of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, with the Hollywood Hills glistening in the background — presenters, performers and audience members included a collection of A-listers that could give the Oscars a run for their money.
One could turn left and spot Bill Gates and Robert Downey Jr. sitting at the same table, or right and find tablemates Bradley Cooper and Rupert Murdoch schmoozing.

Gina Carano has responded to Disney's recent move to dismiss the actress' lawsuit against the company over her controversial firing from The Mandalorian.
Last February, the actress sued Disney and Lucasfilm for discrimination and wrongful termination regarding her firing from the Star Wars series and is seeking compensatory damages.

Gina Carano is once again slamming Disney.
If you were unaware, the 41-year-old actress was fired from the popular Disney+ series The Mandalorian in early 2021 over controversial posts on social media. In response, she sued the company in February 2024 with the assistance of Elon Musk. She is seeking to be recast and paid for damages to her career.
On April 9, Disney filed a motion in court to have the case dismissed “on the grounds that Disney has a constitutional right not to associate its artistic expression with Carano’s speech, such that the First Amendment provides a complete defense to Carano’s claim.”
Following Disney‘s new motion, Gina took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to hit back at the company.

Over its half-century run, Saturday Night Live has inevitably booked some problematic hosts, including Andrew Dice Clay, (misogynist humor); Rudy Giuliani (illegal campaign activities); Robert Blake (tried for murder); Elon Musk (general insufferability and dalliance with neo Nazis) and Donald Trump (attempted overthow of the US government.)
And then there’s O.J. Simpson, who hosted in 1978, toward the end of his record-setting football career, and went on to be very credibly accused of double murder.
Though erased forever from the list of prospective return hosts, Simpson managed to make almost innumerable later appearances on the show, when Norm Macdonald used his position as anchor of “Weekend Update” to pound on Simpson mercilessly for being a vicious murderer (despite his subsequent acquittal).
According to Norm, his quest for humor (and justice) wound up getting him fired from the show. He said the late NBC West Coast President, Don Ohlmeyer, who...

Gina Carano has written that the Walt Disney Company will “take any chance they get to control what you say, what you think or they will attempt to destroy your career,” issuing a social media response to the studio’s recent motion to dismiss the actor’s lawsuit against the company.
Carano starred on the Disney+ “Star Wars” series “The Mandalorian” for two seasons before being fired for in February 2021, after she analogized the treatment of modern-day conservatives to the persecution of Jews in Nazi Germany.
Carano sued the studio in February, arguing that Disney unlawfully retaliated against her for expressing her politics, as opposed to Disney’s preferred ideological views. The studio filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit Tuesday, arguing that it had a First Amendment right to fire the actor and that it had a “constitutional right not to associate its artistic expression with Carano’s speech.
