Eve Hewson had to conquer her "fear of singing" for 'Flora and Son'.The 32-year-old actress – the daughter of U2 frontman Bono and activist Ali Hewson – plays the title role in the musical comedy-drama and surprisingly confessed that she was terrified of using her vocals for the movie.Speaking at Deadline's Contenders Film: Los Angeles panel, Eve said: "I just thought, 'I could not let this person get away from me. I have to play this part. And I'm just going to have to get over my fear of singing – it's not something I've ever wanted to do – and just go for it.'"And it's ended up being such a rewarding experience on many different levels, but (on) almost sort of psychological-emotional level for me, it's like I faced my fear and I've moved past it and I feel pretty good about it."The movie tells the story of...

Eve Hewson Will Not be doing karaoke today. “I have to be really, really hammered to do karaoke,” the actress explains, walking through New York’s Central Park. “I would really have to be a whole bottle of tequila deep.” Not that she is opposed to such things (“I mean, I am Irish”), but it’s 10 a.m. on a Wednesday, and up until very, very recently, sober public singing — or sober singing of any kind, really — was a complete nonstarter. “Absolutely not,” she says. “Hard no. It was absolutely my biggest fear.

A column chronicling conversations and events on the awards circuit.
The votes are in. The ballots are being counted. The clock is ticking toward Oscar Sunday (which also is the day the clock ticks ahead as daylight-saving time begins). This also means the party circuit is in full bloom, and if you wondered if anyone was still worried about Covid, as has been the case for the past two Oscar seasons due to the pandemic, well, think again. As evidence, the two celebrations I hit on Thursday night — one for the Australian Oscar nominees, the other for Irish nominees – were packed to the max, barely a mask in sight. And if anyone was worried, it seems they have decided to party hearty instead, at least until the hangover following this six-month awards season finally takes hold Monday morning.

With an unprecedented number of Oscar nominations for Irish talent and films this year, everyone was celebrating the green wave at the 17th annual Oscar Wilde Awards, held Thursday night — before the rain arrived — at Bad Robot in Santa Monica. “It’s amazing, there are 7 million people on that island, and all of them were nominated and are here tonight,” host J.J. John Carney made his long-awaited return to Sundance, and to the movies, with the Sunday premiere of Flora and Son, his first feature since 2016’s Sing Street.
A musical charmer in the mold of the filmmaker’s previous hits, Once and Sing Street, both of which premiered at Sundance, the movie had the audience laughing, cheering and wiping away tears. That and the standing ovation that followed were likely welcome news to the movie’s sellers at WME Independent since it is one of the more prominent acquisition titles.
Flora features a breakout performance — scratch that, a star-making performance — by Eve Hewson, who already has a musical background with her father being U2 frontman Bono, and who plays a struggling and immature young mother of a troubled teenager (Oren Kinlan). Bono’s daughter actor Eve Hewson has taken a lighthearted approach to the “nepo baby” conversation.
Much has been said about the children of celebrities and the privilege that may come with generational fame.
The debate was most recently reignited after Vulture published an exhaustive guide to the Hollywood “nepo-verse”.
Responding to the discourse in a series of tweets, Hewson proudly embraced herself as the child of a celebrity.
“Gonna get Nepo Baby tattooed on my a**,” she joked.
“2023 Goals: be successful enough to get recognised as a nepo baby,” the Bad Sisters star wrote in a subsequent post, before following up with: “Wait s***, I thought this was my Notes app.”
Before long, Hewson excitedly shared a clip of the article, announcing: “I Have Just Been Made Aware I Hit My 2023 Goals And It’S Still 2022.”

Netflix psychological thriller Behind Her Eyes, adapted from Sarah Pinborough’s hit novel of the same name, sets its cast an unenviably tough task (and not just because almost everyone’s having to do a regional accent). Through subtleties and shifts in their performances, Eve Hewson, Tom Bateman, Simona Brown and Robert Aramayo need to keep the audience invested while keeping us guessing. What is it we’re watching? Is this six-part series the tale of Adele and David’s brittle marriage and the secrets that bind them? Or the story of single-mother Louise (Simona Brown) getting in over her head with this glamorous new couple? Could it be something else entirely?
While you’re asking yourself those questions, you’ll likely be asking another: where have I seen that guy before? While we can’t help with the former and stay spoiler-free, we can answer that one…

While the Golden Globes’ swell in popularity despite an increasingly savvy audience is something of a miracle, the industry’s persistent wholesale buy-in simultaneously reinforces the gap they enjoy over awards show wannabes, such as November’s first televised Hollywood Film Awards.

Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale hit the beach with their sons, Kingston and Zuma, while on vacation in the South of France last week. Gwen stayed covered up in a colorful caftan and relaxed with a book while her boys took to the water. Gwen and Gavin have been enjoying some downtime from their music careers and took their little ones to the Woburn Safari Park in England earlier this month. They went zip-lining through the trees and got to greet a monkey that pounced on their car as they did some sightseeing. The family headed to France from their London home base for some rest and relaxation after Gavin wrapped up a Summer tour with his band Bush. Between their days on the beach, the couple also met up with Bono and his wife, Ali Hewson, to check out an exhibition at the Maeght Foundation in Saint-Paul-de-Vence. View Slideshow...

Bono: David sang the blues and Jesus did some punk rock
875 words
(Rns) U2 frontman Bono exchanged Bible references and bantered about music, theology and evangelicals’ role in AIDS activism in a recent radio interview with Focus on the Family President Jim Daly.
Growing up in Ireland with a Protestant mother and a Catholic father, Bono imitated C.S. Lewis in “Mere Christianity,” where Lewis argued that Jesus was a lunatic, liar or Lord.
“When people say ‘Good teacher,’ ‘Prophet,’ ‘Really nice guy,’ … this is not how Jesus thought of himself,” Bono said. “So, you’re left with a challenge in that, which is either Jesus was who he said he was or a complete and utter nut case.”
“And I believe that Jesus was, you know, the Son of God,” Bono said, according to a transcript provided to Religion News Service. “I understand that for some people...

Solange Knowles played DJ for the night at yesterday evening's bash and Congolese-Belgian musician Baloji performed for the crowd. While plenty of the attendees-including John Legend-have a musical pedigree of their own, plenty of actors and other celebrities hit the party, which was held at a private estate in La Quinta, CA. New York — Corinne Bailey Rae was married just two days before the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, then lost her husband to a drug overdose seven years later.
"I think that it's very sobering being here today and I have a lot of empathy with people who lost family and lost partners in that tragedy," she said Sunday from the front row of a New York Fashion Week show for Edun.
"A huge part of being human is losing people; for these people who lost someone it's especially more painful because it didn't need to happen. I was thinking about that today, `How does that complicate their grief?'"
Rae, 32, was among a pack of celebrities who turned out to support the label founded by U2's Bono and his wife, Ali Hewson.
Bono bandmate the Edge, Sting, models Naomi Campbell and Christy Turlington, and Courtney Love also sat on the front row.

‘Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark’ is a rock musical whose music and lyrics were composed by Bono and his U2 bandmate, The Edge. Based on the Spider-Man comics published by Marvel, the stunt-filled musical is the most expensive Broadway show in history, costing a total of $65 million to produce. After the the show, at the end of which Bono “practically jumped over [Bill] Clinton to take the stage and do a few bows with The Edge,” according to the NY Daily News, Bono hosted an uber-exclusive after-party at Bowlmor Lanes Midtown. An inside source claims that “It was the most high-security event I’ve ever been to,” complete with Bono’s security team thoroughly surveying the grounds for any possible threat. On top of that, Bono invited almost no one to part with him; as NY Daily News claims, “He wanted to be left alone because he is Bono.” ____________________ Read More:...

Broadway's beleaguered musical Spider-man: Turn Off The Dark has officially flopped after failing to impress critics on its opening night.
Producers temporarily shut down the show in March to overhaul the music and storyline and address safety concerns, following troublesome previews.
The curtain went up on the newly revamped show on Tuesday - attracting A-listers including Matt Damon, Robert De Niro and Liam Neeson - but the critics were far from complimentary in their reviews.
Ben Brantley of the New York Times rants: "(The show) has become a straightforward children's entertainment with a mildly suspenseful story, two-dimensional characters, unapologetically bad jokes and the kind of melodious rock tunes that those under 12 might be familiar with from listening to their parents' salad-day favourites of the 1980s and '90s."
The Wall Street Journal's Terry Teachout takes aim at U2 rockers Bono and The Edge, who wrote the show's musical numbers, insisting, "The score sounds like a double album of B-sides. Not only are the songs forgettable, but they never succeed in generating any dramatic momentum - all they do is get louder."
Charles Spencer, writing for Britain's Daily Telegraph, adds, "The show never soars into greatness, or leaves the audience in a state of disbelieving wonder. Indeed, despite all the time and money that has have been lavished on it, Spidey actually turns out to be a bit of a bore."
Bono, who attended the opening with his wife Ali Hewson, had predicted bad reviews, admitting he is still "10 per cent away" from being happy with the $75 million (£47 million) musical.

U2 frontman Bono is teaming up with luxury fashion label Louis Vuitton to launch an African-themed clothing range. The Irish rocker and his wife Ali Hewson set up Edun in 2005 to stimulate business in Africa, but the ethical fashion firm plunged into the red in 2009, with debts up 90 per cent from 2008, according to official documents obtained by British newspaper The Sun in August this year.
The shocking financial records reportedly prompted bosses at luxury business group Lvmh, which owns couture house Louis Vuitton, to buy an "important" stake in Edun to help boost profits. And now the rocker is teaming up with designers at the French fashion house to create a new line of clothes.
He confirmed the partnership at the Africa Rising Art Exhibition in Paris on Wednesday, October 6, and told the crowd, "We are excited to draw attention to the new mood in Africa which is positive and optimistic.

The wife of U2 star Bono has reportedly taken legal action against Sir Paul McCartney's daughter Stella in a dispute over one of the fashion designer's fragrances. Stella, who designs her own Stella McCartney garment range, added a perfume collection to her fashion house in 2002 with her first scent Stella. She later expanded her catalogue with a new version of the fragrance called Stella Nude. However, the title has apparently angered Bono's spouse Ali Hewson, who runs a company called Nude Skincare. Bono wishes his wife wasn't so "independent." The U2 frontman fears his wife of nearly 27 years Ali Hewson doesn't need him as much as he needs her.
The 49-year-old singer said: "Our relationship has changed a lot. For a while I thought I was in charge, I was the hunter-protector."
"A few years ago it became clear somebody else was in charge, and I feel I hold on a lot tighter to her than she does to me, and that slightly bothers me. She's so independent and sometimes I wish she wasn't."
But no matter how bad his personal life got, Bono would never complain because he doesn't think "whinging" ever helped anyone.
