Luther: The Fallen Sun, the first movie adventure for Idris Elba’s morally (and fashionably) grey detective, follows up five series’ worth of shenanigans in the successful BBC TV thriller. That’s a lot of murder, character development and shocking moments. The Fallen Sun has been designed to work as a standalone story as well as a continuation of the show, but with a world this complex, context is everything.
So, if you want to refresh your memory so you’re ready to catch all of The Fallen Sun’s cheeky references, or even if you’re new to the world of Luther and want to find out how we got to this point, here’s a handy primer on the story so far…

100 Streets tells three different interlocking stories that take place in the same London neighborhood. Two of those stories fuse pretty well while the other is fine on its own but really doesn’t connect at all and feels out of place. All is rendered inconsequential, however, in a doozy of a last twenty minutes. Each story culminates in a barrage of conveniently laid occurrences leading to overly melodramatic outcomes for all characters that will have you throwing your hands up in the air and possibly even letting out a giggle.
The first story deals with Kingsley (Franz Drameh), a bright young man from a broken home that’s mixed up in street crime. Not unlike Drameh’s character Firestorm on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Kingsley spits fire as well. Or rather, he likes to write and recite poetry. While performing community service at the local cemetery for his most recent arrest,...

Perfect man Idris Elba plays perfect man Max in the upcoming film 100 Streets. A retired rugby player, Max’s seemingly perfect life unravels when his seemingly perfect marriage to former actress Emma (Gemma Arterton) falls apart. The new trailer for the film deceptively makes it look like 100 Streets is all about Max and Emma, but the movie actually follows three different, overlapping stories (yep, it’s one of those heady interwoven ensemble dramas). All three stories take place in one square mile of modern-day London.
Aside from Max and Emma, there’s also Kingsley (Franz Drameh), a small-time drug dealer trying to get off the streets, who meets local stage actor Terence (Ken Stott) while doing community service. Terence helps lead Kingsley down a new and creative path. There’s also cab driver George (Charlie Creed-Miles) and his wife Kathy (Kierston Wareing), who want to start a family ...

Idris Elba is a washed-up rugby star in dire need of an intervention in the melodramatic new trailer for 100 Streets.
Directed by Jim O’Hanlon, the ensemble thriller finds Elba in the role of Max, a former sporting hero who’s left staring a mid-life crisis square in the face. He cheats on his wife Emily (Gemma Arterton), drinks like a fish, and ultimately loses control of everything around him. All of that comes to head when Elba’s lead becomes embroiled in London’s criminal underground, and it’s here that 100 Streets opens up to become a multi-faceted affair revolving around “three extraordinary stories.”
Despite the calibre of Elba and Arterton, this is a formulaic trailer that is heavy on the melodrama and light on the subtlety. Idris Elba’s Max is a stereotypical anti-hero circling the drain, essentially, and that internal struggle to carve out a life beyond...

Samuel Goldwyn Films has unveiled the first trailer for 100 Streets, an ensemble drama that takes place in one square mile of London. Though the film features multiple interconnecting storylines, this first trailer concentrates on the most prominent: the crumbling relationship between a former rugby player (Idris Elba) and his wife (Gemma Arterton).
I actually had the chance to see this movie at this year's L.A. Film Festival, and you can read my full review right here. It's a passable drama, but one of the standout elements for me was Arterton's performance. Here's a quick excerpt from the review:
Arterton, who Americans might recognize from her mostly expendable roles in big budget action movies like Prince of Persia, Clash of the Titans, and Quantum of Solace, may surprise people with her complicated, sensitive Emily; seeing her here makes me wonder what else she’s capable of, whereas she was instantly forgotten in those aforementioned blockbusters.

Zootopia, The Jungle Book, Finding Dory, a villainous role in blockbuster sequel Star Trek Beyond….few would argue that Idris Elba has enjoyed a stellar year on the big screen. There’s still time for the actor to squeeze out one more feature, though, and it heralds a return to gritty British drama.
Entitled 100 Streets, Elba leads the cast of Jim O’Hanlon’s pulsing crime thriller as Max, a retired rugby player who becomes entangled in London’s underground drug ring. What starts off as a one-time indulgence soon begins to corrupt his life from the ground up, with Gemma Arterton’s Emily experiencing the brunt of that meltdown in today’s gripping first trailer. "Without our passion, it's very hard for us to find our place in the world." Vertigo Films has debuted an official UK trailer for a London-based indie drama titled 100 Streets, about three people and three stories that reflect modern day London. Idris Elba stars with young actor Franz Drameh, plus a cast including Tom Cullen, Gemma Arterton, Kierston Wareing, Ken Stott, Ryan Gage, Ashley Thomas and Kola Bokinni. Elba plays a famous retired rugby player who gets involved in drugs. This is a very powerful trailer and they definitely got my attention, but I'm hoping the film isn't convoluted from all the different stories it's following. I really do like the way this looks and feels, I'm curious to check it out sometime soon. Here's the first official UK trailer (+ poster) for Jim O'Hanlon's 100 Streets, direct from YouTube: Three people, three extraordinary stories. All lived out within a hundred London streets.

In between kickboxing and pointedly denying relationship rumors, Idris Elba also finds time to act. After taking part in four massive 2016 features in Hollywood — Zootopia, The Jungle Book, Finding Dory, and Star Trek Beyond — he also returned home to star in a more grounded drama. The U.K. feature 100 Streets will hit theaters there this month and the first trailer has now landed.
Coming frequent TV director Jim O’Hanlon, the film also starring Gemma Arterton follows a number of different characters in modern-day London. Specifically, Elba plays a retired ruby player who gets himself involved in the underground drug game. With a strong cast, it has the makings of a fairly intense drama that hopefully doesn’t dip into too many cliches. Also starring Franz Drameh, Tom Cullen, Ken Stott, Charlie Creed-Miles, and Kierston Wareing, check out the trailer and poster below.

Kierston Wareing wanted to leave 'EastEnders' because her storylines were ''one dimensional''. The 37-year-old actress is pleased BBC One bosses decided to end her contract after just a year because she was getting sick of playing barmaid Kirsty Branning. She said: ''I think her storylines have been quite one dimensional - she's either working in the pub or chasing husband Max. At the beginning it was great as there were loads of sides to Kirsty but although I've enjoyed my time there, I have a range and they didn't use it. It was quite frustrating.'' However, the brunette beauty admits she would...

Kierston Wareing has slammed 'EastEnders' bosses for giving her unrealistic storylines. The 37-year-old actress is ''glad'' to be leaving her role as Kirsty Branning next year and she has hit out at some of the ''ridiculous'' storylines her character has had, including pretending she was pregnant with Max Branning's (Jake Wood) baby, and insists her alter-ego has become a ''wet drip''. She said: ''I didn't believe in any of the storylines. I wanted more of a range. It wasn't believable - why would Kirsty keep chasing Max when he's got a load of baggage? It's just ridiculous. ''She was a wet...

The actor is about to start "a new chapter" in his career – as Mick Carter, landlord of the Queen Vic
Age: 36.
Appearance: A proper nostril.
A what? Nostril and tweezer: geezer.
Ah. Is this because Dyer, besides being one of Harold Pinter's favourite actors, is also a prominent user of cockney rhyming slang? You could say Panama.
I could say what? Panama hat: that.
Are you going to keep doing this? Cot.
Oh for the love of ... Cot and baby: maybe.
Look, can we just get to the point? We can. Dyer is going to be the new landlord of the Queen Vic in EastEnders.
Oh gawd. He'll play Mick Carter, who will arrive at Christmas with his wife Linda, to be played by Kellie Bright. You might remember her as Me Julie in Ali G Indahouse or Kate Aldridge, daughter of that cad Brian in the Archers.
Two unforgettable roles.

'EastEnders' is set to axe four characters in a major shake-up to boost ratings. Kierston Wareing's Kirsty Branning and Phaldut Sharma's Aj Ahmed are among the Walford residents who will leave the show early next year as new executive producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins aims to restore the BBC One show, which has fallen behind 'Coronation Street' and 'Emmerdale' in the ratings, to its former glory. Rachel Bright's Poppy Meadow and Daniel Coonan's Carl White have also been dropped from the soap. A source told The Sun newspaper: ''Dominic didn't feel the characters who are leaving fit with the direction he is taking the show...
