Warning: Contains major spoilers for “War for the Planet of the Apes” Fans of the classic “Planet of the Apes” from nearly 50 years ago got a surprise when it was announced that the latest installment in Fox’s reboot series, “War for the Planet of the Apes,” would see Caesar and his fellow apes joined by a mute human girl named Nova, making some wonder if this girl would grow up to be the mute human woman encountered by Charlton Heston’s doomed astronaut George Taylor in the 1968 film. Well, it turns out that’s not the case. In an interview with.

With a warning for major, major spoilers, we look at War For The Planet Of The Apes, and where the franchise might go next...
Nb: This is your final warning for major Apes franchise spoilers.
See related Fargo season 3 episode 1 review: The Law Of Vacant Places
Quietly, poignantly, the curtain has fallen on Caesar. The intelligent ape who first led his kind out of captivity in 2011's Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes has done so again in this summer's third chapter. Humanity has, it seems, finally reached its end thanks to a cruel mutation in the virus that already weakened it 15 years earlier. War For The Planet Of The Apes sees Caesar pass into legend; mortally wounded, he dies in the knowledge that his fellow apes are finally safe from harm.
It's a superb performance from Andy Serkis, who's now played the role of Caesar...

Movies never end up as they were originally envisioned. For various reasons, directors often decide not to film a section of the shooting-script. Also, throughout the production and post-production process of filmmaking, the cutting-room floor becomes cluttered with scenes, plots or characters that were chosen for deletion. Sometimes, these deleted scenes or subplots would have changed the entire film. Here are 9 movies with abandoned storylines would have altered the way we look at the overall movie.
The Cloverfield Monster was a young child: We never find out very much about the rampaging monster that attacks New York in Cloverfield. Where did it come from and why did it attack the city? Jj Abrams has said that, in the original conception of the story, the creature was a child belonging to an ancient Lovecraftian race that lies sleeping in the depth of the ocean. A young child from this race is awoken by a crashing satellite.

I know a lot of people say they enjoy happy endings, but many of the films I love have dark or twisted endings. One of the best endings can be found in 1968's Planet of the Apes. Astronaut George Taylor (Charlton Heston) thinks he landed on a strange planet where apes are the dominant species, not man, but in the end Taylor discovers he isn't on a different planet; he's actually on Earth. This is becomes apparent when Taylor comes across the top portion of the Statue of Liberty sticking out of the beach in the closing minutes. Tim Burton tried to duplicate that twist ending with his Planet of the Apes remake, but it didn't have the same effect. When Rise of the Planets of the Apes came out in 2011 many people expected director Rupert Wyatt to attempt a twist ending of his own, but he chose not to.

There have been some unforgettable movie lines throughout cinematic history. There are delicious selections to choose from, some of the most famous including Clark Gable’s blunt remark in Gone with the Wind, Marlon Brando’s nasally offer that the bandleader couldn’t refuse in The Godfather, and the beginning of a beautiful friendship in Casablanca. Nothing beats a great movie line. When you look back over your list of favourite films of all time, there’ll often be one trait they all have in common – and that will be a slick and unique script, packed with fresh and exciting dialogue. Many moments from the best movie scripts have been incorporated into common culture; being used for advice, support, and comic effect. Everyone has their own personal favorite movie line, along with many others that they consider to be truly memorable.
But just because something is memorable doesn’t necessarily mean it’s good.

Even before you consider Rupert Wyatt's hit 2011 blockbuster Rise of the Planet of the Apes and its successor Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Franklin J Schaffner's 1968 adventure had spawned four sequels, an animated cartoon series, a live-action TV show, a deluge of marketing (bubblegum cards, plastic models, etc.) and Tim Burton's 2001 remake. And yet nobody wanted to touch Planet of the Apes when producer Arthur P Jacobs first touted it around Hollywood in the mid-'60s.
Adapted from Pierre Boulle's novel La Planète Des Singes, Jacobs saw it as the perfect follow-up to the animal magic movie he currently had in production, Doctor Dolittle. Approaching studios with a script by Rod Serling, the creator of The Twilight Zone, and concept images honed by no fewer than seven artists, Jacobs's passion project was nonetheless ridiculed: actors in monkey suits was the stuff of B-movies and cheap TV serials.

A pop-culture touchstone, a nearly all-purpose metaphor and one of the most beloved sci-fi franchises of the Seventies and beyond, the Planet of the Apes films do what all good what-if fantasies should do: hold up a mirror to humanity and reflect our own conflicts, issues and failings back to us through a wildly outrageous premise. The original 1968 movie mixes satire, social commentary, action and suspense, capped by a first-rate twist at the end. ("Damn you, damn you all to hell!")

A man (John Hodiak) wakes up in a military hospital, cognizant of the fact that he has been in battle for the United States but entirely oblivious of who he is or where he lives. Only a few cryptic pieces of paper in his pocket inform him of his name George Taylor; that a woman now hates him; and that a good pal of his, Larry Cravat, wants to meet him in Los Angeles transfer a significant amount of saved up funds through a bank account. Thus begins George’s vertiginous journey into the City of Angels, where the clues as to his true identity sometimes add up whilst other times stir further confusion. By all accounts, there are some people who view the name Larry Cravat as either a threat, as in the case of Lt.

London, May 24: A groom has been arrested and locked up for looting the club that hosted his wedding reception.
Christopher Richards, along with usher George Taylor and two others, stole booze, computers and Dvds worth nearly 23,000 pounds and caused damage worth 24,000 pounds during the burglary, the Mirror reported.
A court heard that six months ago, club boss Catherine Murphy gave the 25-year-old and his partner, Bridie Sparks, a half-price champagne buffet as the couple were broke.
In a statement to Burnley crown court, Catherine, 34, said that she was "tortured" by the betrayal and she also tried to kill herself.
Richards surrendered himself after CCTV caught him in the act at the Hub Club, in Bacup,.

In an interview with Time magazine, Mohamed Morsi, the first democratically elected president of Egypt, spoke about his country and the new powers he recently granted himself that would make him more of a dictator. During the conversation, Morsi made several comparisons to the "Planet of the Apes" franchise, and apparently revealed that he illegally downloaded the movies. "I remember a movie. Which one? 'Planet of the Apes.' The old version, not the new one. There is new one. Which is different. Not so good," he said. "At the end, [there was a] big monkey, he was head of the supreme court in the movie. And there was a big scientist working for him, cleaning things. [He] has been chained there. And it was the planet of the apes after the destructive act of a big war. And the scientist was asking him to do something, this was 30 years ago: 'Don't forget you are a monkey.

Following up the Man of Steel in 2nd place in the Stratego Sci-Fi 100 was Harrison Ford’s gruff but lovable rogue Han Solo, with Frank Oz’s jedi master Yoda coming third, both representing Star Wars in the top three and rounding it out firmly in George Lucas’ favour. James Chapman has created a brilliant and thoroughly shuffled supercut of a go-to screenwriting cliche: the binary beginning with "there are two kinds of people in the world." As far as we know, the earliest use of the line comes from 1962's "The Longest Day," a semi-historical film about D-Day. The quote is directly from an actual general during the war at Omaha Beach, General George Taylor, who said: "There are two kinds of people who are staying on this beach: those who are dead and those who are going to die. Now let’s get the hell out of here." However, the quote was misattributed in the film and the line was given to the actor playing General Norman Cota. The second use of "there are two kinds of people" occurred just a few months later in December 1962 with "Lawrence of Arabia." Unsurprisingly, the movie with the most variations...

For years we've heard about how awesome it is watching the classic movie The Wizard of Oz synched up with Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. I remember doing this in high school, but wasn't really impressed. Sure, there were a few moments that worked with the sync up, but in the end it didn't deliver entertainment value I was expecting. I imagine you'd have to be high out of your mind for this to work like it's supposed to. Not only has it been The Dark Side of the Rainbow called but it's also known as The Dark Side of Oz,
According to Wikipedia, "In August 1995, the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette published the first mainstream media article about the "synchronicity", citing the Usenet discussion group. Soon afterward, several fans began creating websites in which they touted the experience and tried to comprehensively catalogue the corresponding moments. A...

Whether they’re male or female, old or young, they’ve illuminated some classic movies. Here’s our top 50 list of sci-fi heroes and heroines…
On the face of it, compiling a list of truly great sci-fi protagonists should be easy. Pick a load of familiar names from a hat, write some breathlessly adoring drivel beneath them, and head off to the pub to reward a job well done.
Except it was never going to be as simple as that – and compiling lists seldom is. For every character making an appearance in the list below, there were at least two other possible candidates who didn't quite make the cut. Some sci-fi heroes were removed, then quickly reinstated. The order was jiggled around, then reordered again.
At one point, your humble writer realised there were more than 50 entries, and then had the unenviable task of hunting back through to decide which poor soul to eliminate.

In "The Hunger Games," the future of North America (called Panem) is grim. For proof, look no further than the titular televised battle to the death that the Capitol puts on for sport. Teens killing teens? Hilarious!
The shocking thing is that the post-apocalyptic future Katniss Everdeen inhabits is far from the bleakest or most bizarre dystopia in movie history. The following 15 movies teach us one basic truth: Be afraid, very afraid of the future -- particularly genetic mutations, man-made viruses, and nuclear holocausts.

Director: Rupert Wyatt.
Writers: Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver, and Pierre Boulle.
A lot has changed since the first Planet of the Apes film in 1968. Make-up effects have been substituted with CGI and Charles Heston is no longer a staple of these films. Instead, James Franco stars as Will Rodman, a scientist dabbling in a cure for Alzheimer's. The result is a more intelligent ape, who becomes the dominant species in this entertaining prequel. Released August 5th in theatres and still going strong, Rise of the Planet of the Apes is one part drama, one part science ficiton and one part thriller. This reviewer wishes there were more thrills early, but this film does not disappoint despite a foible or two.
Rodman is experimenting with chimpanzees in a sterile, privately owned lab. This scientist is using synaptogenesis to fight the degenerative progression of Alzheimer's. A secondary motivation, his confused father, is...

Human-simian relations go terribly awry in "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" with James Franco this week. Unfortunately, it is not the first time that humans and monkeys have come to blows in film, but Homo sapiens have had a few ape friends over the years. In fact, sometimes chimps can even be heroes. Here are the five movie monkeys that we would most like to hang out with if given the chance.

I’m such an avid fan of the Planet Of The Apes films – even the TV Show and Animated Series. To me it’s the greatest franchise in movie history. Having seen Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes, the film is truly a welcomed addition to the series and one of the best films of 2011!
You can imagine how thrilled I was to receive an email with an invitation to speak with screenwriters of Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes, Amanda Silver and Rick Jaffa. I had the great pleasure of talking to these two writers, producers (and married couple) and found to my giddy delight that we share a common love of animals and all things Apes!
The following is our conversation on the film, CGI apes, animal rights and spaceships.
Michelle: In many ways Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes is like the 1972 Conquest Of The Planet Of The Apes.

Entertainment Weekly is reporting Laurence Fishburne has joined the cast of Zack Snyder's Superman reboot, Man of Steel, as Daily Planet editor-in-chief Perry White. Fishburne recently departed his role on "C.S.I." and as White he'll play boss to Henry Cavill as Clark Kent (aka Superman) and Amy Adams as Lois Lane.
White is described by Wikipedia as an archetypal image of the tough, irascible but fairminded boss. According to comic-book continuity, White was an award-winning journalist who served a term as Mayor of Metropolis. He worked as an assistant editor on the Metropolis Daily Star under George Taylor before becoming editor of the Planet.
In previous live-action portrayals of the character he was played by Jackie Cooper in the four Christopher Reeve-led films, by Frank Langella in Bryan Singer's Superman Returns and by Michael McKean on the television show "Smallville".
At this point, this cast is shaping up nicely.

So Emma Watson has some lofty ideas. She quite recently spoke to a British tabloid paper – The Mirror in fact – about the scene in the final film in the wizarding series - Harry Potter &The Deathly Hallows Part II – in which her on-screen alter-ego Hermione and Ron finally seal the deal with a kiss:
I think that’s like the most anticipated kiss in history. We’ve been building tension to this moment for like eight movies.
[Fear not, despite recent revellations, I'm pretty sure this particular tabloid story is at least partly true, and was procured by morally acceptable practices.]
I mean come on, I’m one of the biggest Harry Potter fans in the world – seriously, my facebook picture for the last two years was me done up as Harry – and I love most of what has been done with the film franchise, but the most anticipated kiss in history? Surely not. I mean, off the top of my head I can think of a good few kisses I’d prefer to...

A Belfast-based movie producer named George Clarke has floated a theory that a time traveler may have sneaked into footage of a 1928 Charlie Chaplin film premiere. That proposition may sound a little preposterous according to the present-day world's understanding of space-time and relativity. Nevertheless, we at the MTV Movies Blog do have some personal heroes who have traveled through time for the sake of film, and this seemed like as good a time as any to list them off for you.
Marty McFly: "Back to the Future" (1985)
The film spawned 1.21 gigawatts(!) worth of quotable lines and made a box-office star out of its young Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox), who had to fend off attacks by badass bully Biff and sexual advances from his mom Lorraine in order to ensure that his family wasn't wiped from the face of the Earth. Two words: "Great Scott!"
Bill and Ted: "Bill & Ted's...

We all know what goes into making a movie franchise… more than one sequel, sometimes desired by the masses, sometimes, not so much. Generally speaking, these are big budget blockbuster films, but the genre varies slightly from action to horror to comedy and even fantasy. But, the more pertinent question on the minds of the Movie Geeks is… What makes a movie franchise great? In this week’s Top Ten Tuesday, we attempt to answer that question by compiling our own list of the ten greatest movie franchises of all-time!
Honorable Mention: Indiana Jones
Raiders Of The Lost Ark (1981) Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom (1984) Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade (1989) Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull (2008)
In the 80’s, the Indiana Jones franchise was on an epic, legendary role. I have met few people in the world who have had anything bad to say about the first three films.

Everyone is enjoying the holiday here at PlanetdoorQ. We might be back later this weekend. We might all get drunk, hook up with hotties while singing the Star Spangled Banner and dance in the streets wearing nothing but sparklers and a smile. Until next we meet, enjoy the Holiday, be safe, and take a moment to remember all of those who lived, fought and died, for the hope, for the dream, for the reality of America.--Tann Declaration of Independence
