The new spy thriller set during World War II entitled The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare has the unique distinction of being a somewhat true account of not only a pivotal mission during the campaign, but also of the germination of the character of James Bond – to a certain extent at least.
Ostensibly based on true events documented in recently declassified British War Department documents, the film The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare imparts the tale of an organization created during World War II under the guidance of Prime Minister Winston Chruchill. This “top-secret” unit is comprised of a group of men (and one woman) brought together by Gus March-Phillips (Henry Cavill) to undertake an audacious mission that could alter the course of the war against the Nazis.
Phillips is recruited for this mission by Brigadier Gubbins (Cary Elwes) – otherwise known as “M” – and his second in command Ian Fleming (Freddie Fox...

Out of the two dueling White House takeover pics that vied for box office dominance in 2013, it’s safe to say that Olympus Has Fallen emerged victorious against White House Down (though there are some, myself included, who feel that the latter film was far superior). While White House Down disappointed at the box office, Olympus Has Fallen made more on a smaller budget and certainly did well enough to warrant a sequel, which kicked off production in London today.
Rather obviously titled London Has Fallen, the follow-up reunites stars Aaron Eckhart, Gerard Butler, Morgan Freeman, Angela Bassett and Melissa Leo. This time around, Secret Service agent Mike Banning (Butler) and President of the United States Benjamin Asher (Eckhart) find themselves battling a terrorist threat in London.
Check out the official press release, which includes an updated synopsis for the pic. Then let us know, will you be lining up...

★★★☆☆ After helming the ultra low budget and critically praised urban thriller Shifty (2008), BAFTA nominated director Eran Creevy returns with Welcome to the Punch (2013), an explosive action film that sees Creevy depicting London in altogether more sleek and slick parameters than his directorial predecessor. Armed with a bigger budget and the clout of executive producer Ridley Scott, Welcome To the Punch stems from, and indeed owes a debt to, a particularly stylised brand of American action cinema governed by the likes of Michael Mann and Tony Scott, though its bracing energy fails to mask a decidedly limp plot.
The film opens with James McAvoy's police detective Max Lewinsky desperately pursuing successful career criminal Jacob Sternwood (Mark Strong) mid-heist across London, a chase that culminates in Max getting shot in the leg. Cut to three years later and Max is haunted by his previous inability to catch Sternwood whilst harbouring a...

Directors making a step up in their second film seems to be becoming a micro-trend of late. For example, Marc Webb went from manic pixie dream girl rom-com (500) Days of Summer to mega-budget franchise reboot The Amazing Spider-Man and Gareth Edwards is currently finishing up shooting on his risky Godzilla reboot for Warners after creating much of his first feature Monsters essentially in his own house. While not as much of a seismic shift as those two examples, this general rule still applies to Eran Creevy, a man who went from the Film London Microwave scheme funded Shifty to his second feature, the Ridley Scott backed, impressively cast action-thriller Welcome To The Punch, a film which while not quite being a revolution in Britflicks,...

Following on the success of the BAFTA nominated Shifty, Eran Creevy returns with his much awaited second feature Welcome to the Punch, and ahead of the films theatrical release, we caught up with the rising star.
Creevy talks about his influences, how he managed to attract such a stellar cast of British performers – such as James McAvoy (interview going live tomorrow), Mark Strong (our interview with Mark up here) and Peter Mullan – as well as discussing the invaluable assistance provided to him from his executive producer Ridley Scott. The young filmmaker, who is bound to have a bright future ahead of him, also tells us about his third project Autobahn – though his casting remains a secret for now.
Apparently there was a lot of buzz around the screenplay, which is exceptional as it’s only your second film. How do you create buzz like that?
