An open letter condemning Jonathan Glazer’s Zone of Interest Oscars acceptance speech has been signed by more than 450 Jewish Hollywood professionals.
The group consists of actors, executives, directors, creators, producers and representatives denouncing Glazer’s controversial comments made when accepting the Academy Award for best international film on March 10.
“We refute our Jewishness being hijacked for the purpose of drawing a moral equivalence between a Nazi regime that sought to exterminate a race of people, and an Israeli nation that seeks to avert its own extermination,” the letter reads.
In his acceptance at the 2024 Oscars, Glazer read from a prepared speech to thank his partners and then make a statement addressing the current Israel-Gaza conflict.
“All our choices were made to reflect and confront us in the present, not to say, ‘Look what they did then’; rather, ‘what we do now,’” Glazer said. “Our film shows where dehumanization leads at its worst.

Two of them are already shot: the opening two parts of the planned four movie western saga Horizon. Whilst we don’t have UK release details, the two Horizon: An American Saga films that are pretty much completed will be released this summer. Despite no longer being a part of Yellowstone’s next season, Kevin Costner seems to be busier than ever. First up, he’s got a two-part Western epic called Horizon: An American Saga that’s coming out this summer, and now, Deadline is reporting that the actor’s got another “longtime passion project” ready to roll. While there are no specifics on what it may be, Costner is set to produce and star in the untitled film, with the director of his 2016 thriller Criminal, Ariel Vromen, at the helm.
In the article, no specifics are given, although Costner has been open about certain long-planned projects in the past. One is his book, The Explorer’s Guild, which he wrote with his Horizon collaborator Jon Baird and was called an Indiana Jones-style globetrotting adventure. It could be anything, although given Vromen’s track record, which includes based-on-fact thrillers, The Iceman (with...

“I could not be more honored to be reunited with my friend and collaborator,” said Vromen in a statement to Deadline, “especially on Kevin’s longtime passion project.”
Pic’s plot is under wraps and further details are scarce, but production is expected to kick off in early 2025. This will be Costner and Vromen’s second film together, on the heels of the 2016 action thriller Criminal co-starring Gary Oldman and Tommy Lee Jones. Doctors characterized Liotta’s death as natural and nonviolent, saying he suffered respiratory insufficiency, pulmonary edema (fluid in his lung), and acute heart failure. They also noted that Liotta had atherosclerosis, a condition where plaque builds up in the inner lining of an artery, causing it to harden or thicken.
A rep for Liotta did not immediately return a request for comment.

I’ve loved gangster movies since I was four years old and saw Humphrey Bogart and Sylvia Sidney in Dead End (1937) on TV, and Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway in Bonnie and Clyde (1967) at the movies (My dad pinched a lobby card for me). Every Friday night, a local NYC station ran old crime flicks on a slot called “Tough Guys.” Bogart, James Cagney, Edward G. Robinson, and George Raft were the faces over the title. Today that might be Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Wesley Snipes, and James Gandolfini.
The gangster and crime genre produced some of the most influential films in cinema history. Mervyn LeRoy’s Little Caesar (1931), William A. Wellman’s The Public Enemy (1931), and Howard Hawks’ Scarface (1932), get a lot of credit for breaking ground in topics beyond criminality, shattering sexual taboos as well as the boundaries of acceptable visual violence. High Sierra (1941) and White Heat...

In the latest bid to break out of the mid-agency pack, APA has formed a strategic partnership with Europa Content, the boutique literary and production company founded by Marc Gerald.
The goal is to expand APA’s intellectual property and media rights division led by Steve Fisher and Debbie Deuble Hill and to increase resources for both APA and Europa Content clients and creators across all media.
Having access to a publishing house has been a key engine of growth for many agencies, allowing for cross-company collaborations and access to content and intellectual property. APA sees it as a next step as it seeks to position itself apart from the mid-agency level and attempts to position itself as an alternative to top-tier agencies such as CAA, UTA and WME.
“We are thrilled to expand our shared business with Marc and his incredible team at Europa Content,” said Kyle Loftus, head of content development at APA.

When Elizabeth Banks boarded "Cocaine Bear" as its director back in March 2021, it certainly got people talking. The character-driven thriller, which was inspired by a true story and produced by "The Lego Movie" filmmakers Phil Lord and Chris Miller, continued to turn heads as more details and a trailer finally arrived for the highly anticipated feature. However, following the death of Ray Liotta in May 2022, the conversation shifted slightly as this would be one of the legendary actor's final appearances on the big screen.
Primarily known for his breakout performance in "Goodfellas," Liotta went on to appear in a number of intense roles throughout his career. Prior to his passing at the age of 67, he was even experiencing a bit of career resurgence thanks to roles in "No Sudden Move" and "The Many Saints of Newark." But he wasn't afraid to have a little fun as well by branching out beyond intense dramas,...

When Israeli film director Ariel Vromen called up Ray Liotta to join his film, “1992”, the late screen legend had one question.
“In the last five years, Ray was playing softer characters in television and film, so when I called, he said, ‘Is it dirty? Because I want to go down and dirty on this film. Set during the 1992 Los Angeles riots, the film follows a custodian played by Tyrese Gibson, who brings his son (portrayed by Christoper Emanual) to work only to become embroiled in a heist orchestrated by a father-son duo played by Liotta and Scott Eastwood.

In 2001, Gordon Bobb, now a partner at Del Shaw Moonves Tanaka Finkelstein & Lezcano, attended his first Sundance Film Festival. Bobb had joined the prestigious entertainment law firm the previous year and was accompanying one of his early clients, a Black filmmaker whose film was screening at the event. It was an exciting experience, Bobb recalls, but a somewhat disorienting one.
“The film screened and premiered, and there was press around it, but that was pretty much it,” says Bobb, who will be recognized with Variety’s Power of Law honor at the online Power of Law breakfast April 9. “There wasn’t any kind of support around the film and the filmmakers. And we were just kind of left to wander around Park City, up and down Main Street. There were other Black filmmakers that had similar experiences — there was no place to come together and network. Director Ariel Vromen has found his next project, the buzzy Los Angeles riots script “April 29, 1992” from writer Sascha Penn.
Vromen, whose credits include the well-received Michael Shannon thriller “The Iceman,” has boarded the project with an eye for fast-tracked production, as early as June.
The film takes place on the first night of the historic Los Angeles riots of 1992. It centers on a custodian who brings his son to work that evening, as the two quickly find themselves in the middle of a heist gone wrong.
The hope is for the film to release in 2022 to mark the 30th anniversary of the riots that rocked L.A. for nearly a week, following the acquittal of four LAPD officers for the use of excessive force in the recorded and widely-viewed arrest and beating of Rodney King. The events counted 63 deaths, more than 12,000 arrests and over $1 billion in property damages for the...

Exclusive: Yitzhak Rabin, the former Israeli Pm whose assassination in 1995 rocked the Middle East, will be the subject of a new high-end miniseries from Ariel Vromen, the Los Angeles-based Israeli filmmaker whose credits include the 2012 crime pic The Iceman.
The six-part show will be titled The Leader and is being adapted from the book The Rabin Memoirs, which was co-authored by Rabin with journalist Dov Goldstein. Vromen, who will write and direct, has been developing the pic and, working with Rabin’s family, has unearthed previously unseen archival footage and hundreds of hours of interviews (courtesy of the Rabin Center and the Rabin family), which will form a basis for the narrative show.
The series will aim to present an intimate picture of the complex man, tracing his journey from pre-state underground fighter to Israeli Army Chief of Staff, Defence Minister and finally, the first Israeli-born Prime Minister. Each episode...

Netflix has released the first trailer for their upcoming Israeli spy thriller The Angel. The film is based on the true story of a man named Ashraf Marwan, "who was Egyptian President Nasser's son-in-law, and special advisor and confidant to his successor Anwar Sadat, while simultaneously one of Israeli Intelligence's most precious assets of the 20th century."
This Looks like a solid spy movie and the fact that it's based on a true story makes it even more interesting. The film stars Marwan Kenzari (The Promise), Toby Kebbell (War for the Planet of the Apes) and Hannah Ware (Aftermath).
The Angel was directed by Ariel Vromen (The Iceman) from a script by David Arata (Children of Men). It will premiere on Netflix on September 14, 2018.

"Why are you helping Israel?" Netflix has debuted an official trailer for a spy thriller titled The Angel, the latest feature from Israeli director Ariel Vromen. Not to be confused with Luis Ortega's film El Angel (also the same title), which premiered at Cannes this year, this tells a different story about an Egyptian spy who helped save Israel. The Angel stars Marwan Kenzari as Ashraf Marwan, Egyptian President Nasser's son-in-law and one of Israeli Intelligence's most precious assets. Also starring Toby Kebbell, Hannah Ware, Waleed Farouq Zuaiter, Maisa Abd Elhadi, Sasson Gabay, Miki Leon, Ori Pfeffer, and Slimane Daz. This looks solid, featuring slick filmmaking and thrilling espionage. Ashraf Marwan was many things: the son-in-law of Egypt’s President Nasser, a special adviser and confidant to his successor Anwar Sadat, and a spy for Israel during one of the most turbulent times in Middle Eastern relations. His movie-worthy adventures inspired Uri Bar-Joseph’s bestselling book “The Angel: The Egyptian Spy Who Saved Israel,” and now they’re the stuff of an actual movie, care of Israeli director Ariel Vromen.
Set in the late ’60s, post-Six-Day War, “The Angel” follows Marwan as he is pulled into an ongoing conflict between such powers as Israel, Egypt, Syria, and Jordan, risking his own life in order to prevent yet another horrific conflict. And, yes, his code name was The Angel, and for apparently good reason.

Sylvester Stallone has no problem teasing things that may or may not be in upcoming movies, but he’s very serious when it comes to things that he definitely knows won’t be in upcoming movies—especially if he’s one of those things. According to Deadline, Stallone has flat-out denied any possibility that he’s going to appear in Tiger Shroff’s Indian remake of First Blood, saying that “any involvement” in the film is not happening “under any circumstances.” Stallone goes on to say that he has nothing against the project, but he wants it to be clear that he doesn’t have anything to do with it.
Back in October, director Ariel Vromen was tapped to direct an english-language reboot of the Rambo series, also without Stallone’s involvement, but it’s unclear if that project is still happening.

Katy Perry and boyfriend Orlando Bloom were reunited at the annual Vanity Fair Oscars party on Sunday after weeks of jet-setting travels apart.
The couple continued their tradition of only posing together inside events, and cozied up for the camera – Perry in a shimmering, bronze gown and still sporting her platinum locks and Bloom in a dapper black tux.
However, an onlooker tells People the duo — who have been dating for more than a year — didn’t haven’t much interaction aside from posing for the photo together and mainly mingled with their own friends.

Nostalgia is ruling the entertainment industry with reboots and remakes being frequently announced. Now word has spread that another iconic character is returning to the big screen: John Rambo.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, a “Rambo” reboot is being developed by Nu Image/Millennium Films. The project, still in its early stages, is titled “Rambo: New Blood” and will have “The Criminal” helmer Ariel Vromen as director. Brooks McLaren is penning the script. Sylvester Stallone, who starred in the 1980s franchise, will not be starring and the studio is looking to cast a new, younger actor as the action hero.
No additional plot details were revealed, only that the company is looking to treat Rambo as a character akin to James Bond.

John Rambo is bound for the big screen once more only this time, a new actor (actress?) will be filling the role made famous by Sylvester Stallone.
It’ll be titled Rambo: New Blood and will, according to The Hollywood Reporter, be directed by Ariel Vromen. Brooks McLaren (How It Ends) has been tapped to flesh out a screenplay, with the idea being that Nu Image/Millennium Films are treating Rambo “as a character akin to James Bond.” As such, expect a younger actor to take up arms as the troubled Vietnam War veteran turned one man army.

Millennium Films has announced that it’s putting a new Rambo movie into production, without the assistance of series star Sylvester Stallone, who said he was finished with the franchise earlier this year. The studio has tapped Criminal director Ariel Vromen to helm Rambo: New Blood, a movie with a title that’s now so on the nose, it’s practically a nostril.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio hasn’t settled on a new actor to play John Rambo, the Ptsd-afflicted war veteran first introduced in David Morrell’s novel First Blood and its 1982 film adaptation, and transformed by Stallone into a hulking murder monster in three subsequent bloody films. And while the 70-year-old action star has been reticent in the past to discuss passing his flamethrower on to any other Hollywood actor, he did express a preference for a new Rambo last year: Ryan Gosling. While Stallone has definitely made his mark on the film industry in many ways, it goes without saying that the two roles he’s best known for are Rocky Balboa and John Rambo. Both franchises contain far too many movies than was ever necessary, and in the 2000s, Stallone revisited both franchises for what was supposed to be one final go. These "final" movies were respectively entitled Rambo and Rocky Balboa. Both were relative high points for their franchises in terms of quality, and gave some pretty good closure on these decades-old characters.
Of course, we now know that Rocky would return in Creed, a film that many consider to be almost on par with the original Rocky, and now it sounds like we may be seeing John Rambo return to the silver screen yet again — except with one key change.

Say it ain't so! Nu Image and Millennium Films are planning a reboot of the classic action film franchise Rambo. I'm a huge fan of Rambo and I've been waiting to see if Sylvester Stallone would ever make that fifth installment of the franchise, but it looks like that's dead now.
The worst part of the news is that Stallone will not be a part of the reboot. According to THR, this film will "see a younger actor inhabit the role. The company is looking at Rambo as a character akin to James Bond." Stallone is Rambo and replacing him with a new actor just seems utterly ridiculous.
The reboot will be called Rambo: New Blood and the production company has hired Brooks McLaren (Xoxo) to write the script and Ariel Vromen (Criminal) to direct the movie.

If you've never seen JFK before, watching it will probably blow your mind a little bit. Not because of its swirling conspiracy theories (it also doesn't matter if you believe any of it-- the drama of it all is simply fantastic), but because its cast is simply unbelievable. You basically can't go 10 minutes of watching JFK without going, "Wait, this person is in this, too?!" And that's saying something considering JFK is approximately 10,000 hours long. It is an all time great cast. The JFK cast is also huge, which is why it's understandable that director Ariel Vromen didn't even realize he had cast a JFK reunion when he was putting together his own twisty thriller, Criminal. Criminal (in Hindi)
Starring Kevin Costner, Gary Oldman, Tommy Lee Jones, Gal Gadot
Directed by Ariel Vromen
Having read the vicious reviews, Criminal, which I braved in Hindi, turned out to be as misunderstood and misinterpreted as The Jungle Book would be if it was taken literally to be a jungle fable (did someone just say, it is?).
There is a lot more to Criminal than the outrageously absurd premise of a ruthless criminal Jericho (Costner, knock-out in his malevolent makeover) whose brain is implanted with a slain CIA agent’s memory to get vital earth-saving information on a terrorist before catastrophe strikes civilization.
Catastrophe struck this film in angry welters with critics dubbing Criminal as one of the worst films in recent times. In brief, a ‘criminal’ waste of time and energy, the critics chorused.

Kevin Costner leads the impressive cast of the unimpressive Criminal...
When you think of how best to describe Criminal, the new body swap action thriller starring Kevin Costner, it wouldn't be by that name. As a title, Criminal is so hopelessly vague that it could apply to anything from Goodfellas to Les Misérables. The premise of this one isn't anywhere near that bland, but the film is not a whole lot better than it sounds either.
Seemingly flowing from the same vein of Euro-trash action films that Liam Neeson opened up with Taken, the film is driven by what CIA agent Bill Pope (Ryan Reynolds) knows, or rather what he knew, before a deal in London with a hacker known as the Dutchman (Michael Pitt) went awry and he was tortured to death by Spanish anarchist Xavier Heimdahl, (Jordi Mollà.)

Kevin Costner is in a strange place in his career, though his odd choices have managed some wins in the last few years, and Criminal is either the result of an overly powerful actor being too interested in a film’s theory, or an actor who just has a bucket list of roles he’s checking off.
Costner plays Jericho Stewart, a special breed of psychopath who fits in well for an experimental medical procedure that hopes to transfer memories from one person to another. CIA operative, Bill Pope (Ryan Reynolds) is the only person who knows where he stashed “The Dutchman” (Michael Pitt), but Pope gets killed before he can tell anyone, and the CIA is scrambling now, because if the Dutchman falls into the wrong hands, he can hand over the U.S. military arsenal.
After Jericho undergoes the procedure, more than Pope’s memories infiltrate his brain.
