Series creator and showrunner Jez Scharf says that with Netflix’s Bodkin, he wanted to “make a dark comedy about what the reality of making a true crime podcast might be like.” Will Forte stars as the true crime podcaster who travels to a small Irish town and stirs up a hornet’s nest with his investigation.
“It’s fascinating and set in these beautiful locations that only Ireland can provide,” says Forte in the three-minute behind-the-scenes featurette. The new video also features Siobhán Cullen (“Dove”), Robyn Cara (“Emmy”), Chris Walley (“Sean O’Shea”), and David Wilmot (“Seamus”) interview clips.
“Bodkin is a dark comedic thriller about a motley crew of podcasters who set out to investigate the mysterious disappearance of three strangers in a quaint, coastal Irish town. But once they start pulling at threads, they discover a story much bigger and weirder than they could have ever imagined,” reads Netflix’s synopsis.

Created by Jez Scharf, the show stars Sobhán Cullen (Dove), Robyn Cara (Emmy), Chris Walley (Sean O’Shea), David Wilmot (Seamus), and Will Forte (Gilbert).
Guest stars include Pom Boyd (Mrs. O’Shea), Fionnula Flanagan (Mother Bernadette), Áine Ní Mhuirí (Sister McDonagh), Charlie Kemp (Damien), Pat Shortt (Darragh), Ger Kelly (Teddy), Denis Conway (Sergeant...

An orphaned Irish teenager spars with her scheming uncle in this insightful reworking of Sheridan Le Fanu’s novel
Here is a tightly laced, elegantly cut gothic period drama that easily slips through the cracks as the barrage of upmarket cinema vying for awards begins. The 19th-century source material, Sheridan Le Fanu’s novel Uncle Silas, isn’t super well-known outside university literature departments, and the lead actors aren’t especially famous names either – although gravelly-voiced David Wilmot, here playing the heavy, has built a career making indelible impressions with supporting roles on film and TV (Station Eleven). Likewise, if you caught limited TV series Ridley Road then the talents of Agnes O’Casey will already be a known quantity. But in a way, the freshness of face and/or versatility of both O’Casey and Wilmot, along with the rest of the cast, are what makes this feel like a discovery.

Patrick Somerville, showrunner of HBO Max’s limited series Station Eleven, has addressed the issue of shows disappearing from the Warner Bros. Discovery streamer.
“TV world is very weird right now,” the writer and producer noted in a social media thread that highlights the topic from a creator’s perspective.
It follows the HBO Max slate review that led to shows such as Westworld, The Nevers and Love Life being pulled from the streamer as well as the cancellation of shows such as Minx, which had been renewed for a second season.
Somerville said that a DVD of his Paramount TV Studios-produced series was now available even if the creative team had been “caught off guard” by its appearance.
“The only way to really ensure shows remain available is that they generate too much interest (and completion) for anyone to justify removing them,” he tweeted. “If you take anything from this thread,...

By a strange quirk of timing, I happened to finally catch Don’t Worry Darling, Florence Pugh and Olivia Wilde’s high-concept psychological thriller run into the ground by gossipy drama. I managed to watch it only the night before Pugh’s lesser-known 2022 project, The Wonder. As to little surprise, Don’t Worry Darling was not nearly good enough to withstand any whisper of scandal, but what shocked me was how The Wonder hits almost all of the same beats—motherhood and sexuality, grief and belief, rituals of self-delusion—and does them so much better. There’s even a more incisive commentary on building false houses around ourselves! To wit:
The opening shot of Sebastián Lelio’s period drama at first resembles Nathan Fielder’s intensely awkward, unflinchingly meta HBO series, The Rehearsal: a warehouse containing a movie set. Though The Wonder is meant to be focused on the 1862 Irish home of the O’Donnell family,...

Lurid mysteries abound in Chilean filmmaker Sebastián Lelio’s latest feature, “The Wonder.”
Starring “Don’t Worry Darling” and “Little Women” Oscar nominee Florence Pugh as an nurse tasked with caring for an ailing 11-year-old girl who’s inexplicably not eaten in four months, the first trailer showcases an atmospheric, 19th century tale with eerie twists and turns as Pugh nurse, the girl’s family and the townspeople around them fights to determine the young girl’s secret.
Per a logline from distributor Netflix, which debuted the film Sept. 2 at the Telluride Film Festival, “The Wonder” takes place in “1862, 13 years after the Great Famine. An English Nightingale Nurse Lib Wright (Florence Pugh) is called to the Irish Midlands by a devout community to conduct a 15-day examination over one of their own. Anna O’Donnell (Kíla Lord Cassidy) is an 11-year-old girl who claims not to have eaten for four months, surviving miraculously on ‘manna from heaven.

Florence Pugh has established herself as one of our most compelling actresses in a relatively short period of time, with awards-worthy performances in movies like "Little Women" and "Midsommar." But it's not just "Don't Worry Darling" that will give Pugh the spotlight this year as she is also headlining "The Wonder" for Netflix, which looks to be an atmospheric, mystery-filled thriller set in the 1800s just to add to the whole thing.
What happens when a nurse is brought in to investigate a young girl who won't eat during a time when people are generally hyper-religious and not far removed from famine? Things get creepy. Let's have a look.
The Wonder Trailer Brings The Mysterious, Creepy Vibes
Having not seen the film, the vibes I'm getting ring closer to "The Witch" or perhaps something like "It Comes at Night." Atmospheric horror/thriller vibes, rather than something packed with jump scares.

"Anyone can be chosen." Netflix has revealed an official trailer for The Wonder, a new drama from Chilean filmmaker Sebastián Lelio that first premiered at the Telluride Film Festival. A tale of two strangers who transform each other's lives, a psychological thriller, and a story of love pitted against evil. Starring Florence Pugh, and based on the book by Emma Donoghue, writer of Room, The Wonder is the tale of a young Irish girl, Anna O'Donnell, whose Catholic family claim she has eaten nothing since her eleventh birthday… four months ago. It's set 13 years after the Great Famine in the 1800s in Ireland. In addition to Pugh, the main cast includes Tom Burke, Niamh Algar, Elaine Cassidy, Kíla Lord Cassidy, Toby Jones, Ciarán Hinds, Dermot Crowley, Brían F. O'Byrne, and David Wilmot. This looks like a very intriguing film about religious faith and women and love. Get a look. ›››

“It’s hard to tell really earnest stories. It’s easier to tell a cynical or horrifying story,” declares Mackenzie Davis about about “Station Eleven,” the HBO Max limited series set in the aftermath of a fictional catastrophic pandemic that wipes out most of civilization. “There’s something about strings that really emulate human voices,” declares composer Dan Romer about the profound human emotion that string instruments like the cello and violin so often elicit in music. For our recent webchat about his acclaimed original score for “Station Eleven,” he adds that “there’s something about the swell and the shakiness of strings that reminds us of our own voices more than other instruments.” Watch our exclusive video interview above.
