This is probably a very rare occurrence; maybe the first time it's actually ever happened. Both Bet and TV One (both black TV networks serving essentially the same audience) have original movies premiering tonight, August 29, at the exact same time, 8Pm. So, if you are planning on staying in tonight, and either broadcast was on your agenda, which movie will you watch live, and which will you DVR, or watch a rebroadcast of, later? This is one ratings event whose results I'm looking forward to seeing. Los Angeles — Five women sitting around talking has become a TV staple. Five women talking, each of whom is either black, Asian or Latino, is something different.
It's the approach tested by two shows: "The Real," airing on a handful of Fox-owned stations, and the Aspire channel's "Exhale."
For "The Real," concluding an experimental run Friday, the multi-ethnic panel of Tamar Braxton, Loni Love, Adrienne Bailon, Jeannie Mai and Tamera Mowry-Housley isn't the point, said executive producer SallyAnn Salsano.
"It's something we don't really talk about. ... We just picked who's best for the show. We didn't say, `Where's our white one?'" Salsano said.
The difference in "The Real," she said, is generational. Other female-centric talk shows like "The View," the genre groundbreaker when Barbara Walters launched it in 1997, tend toward older hosts with more settled lives and perspectives.

While many were untying the bows on their Easter baskets Sunday, Mekhi Phifer was tying the knot.

Ladies and Gentlemen, and fans of The Game, we are about to enter overtime with the San Diego Sabres and the women who love them.
Bet gave their upfronts today and on the docket for this fall were new original episodes of the previously cancelled CW show, which was a spinoff of the successful sitcom, Girlfriends. The Game ran in syndication on Bet after it was cancelled following the 2008-2009 TV season. It found newfound success on the cable network as well as a newfound fanbase, which boosted the channel's ratings to record highs in repeats alone. Reports surfaced earlier this month about the producers and cast of the show meeting for contract negotiations with Bet to produce and air new episodes since the original cast members' contracts expired last summer.
