The Blacklist, Season 1, Episode 6: “Gina Zanetakos”
Written by Wendy West
Directed by Adam Arkin
Airs Mondays at 10pm Et on NBC
Last week’s “The Courier” ended with Elizabeth Keen (Megan Boone) being confronted by her husband Tom (Ryan Eggold) over a box filled with guns and fake passports, The Bourne Identity style. Tom thinks the box is hers (or is feigning ignorance) and Elizabeth thinks the box is his. Adding to her suspicion, Elizabeth also wonders if Tom is responsible for the murder of a Russian agent. Logically there’s only one reasonable course of action: take it to the FBI. While Tom is busy being interrogated by resident CIA operative Meera Malik (Parminder Nagra), Keen is somehow still allowed to work and is directed by Red (James Spader) to Gina Zanetakos (Margarita Levieva), a Blacklister that is connected to Tom and his current predicament.

“Monkey in a Box”
Written By: Tim Schlattmann & Wendy West
Directed By: Ernest Dickerson
Original Airdate: 15 September 2013
In This Episode...
Dexter washes Vogel’s blood off his hands, collects all her files on him, and calls the police. He gives his statement to Quinn and Batista: she called him over, he found her bleeding to death, tried to staunch the bleeding, but she was already gone. Dexter tells Deb about Vogel, and he is taking it rather hard. He then tells Hannah, and promises that this doesn’t change anything about their plans, but he did need to “take care of” Saxon before they leave. Dexter has two days left in Miami. He sends Harrison to stay with Jamie at Batista’s house to keep him safe, while Sylvia Prado (from season three) handles the listing on Dexter’s apartment.
Dexter is summoned in to the interrogation room by Quinn.

Dexter, Season 8, Episode 9, “Make Your Own Kind of Music”
Written By Karen Campbell
Directed By John Dahl
Airs Sundays, 8pm on Showtime
The most obvious element to take from last night’s Dexter, in terms of reference and connection, is the use of the titular song, a piece of music immortalized by Lost’s second season opener. But oddly, the twisty turny nature of the plot has a far greater debt to the show’s own history that, while hardly reeling back the years, acts as a very enlightening and thoughtful rethink of some of the series’ greatest themes. Revelations and shock reveals, another connection to ABC’s mega hit, show that as bizarre as it seems, the writing team has actually gone back and watched the seasons they didn’t write and have developed a nice echo to greater days. Following last week’s excellent “Are We There Yet?...

Airs Sundays, 8pm on Showtime
Oh God, here we go again…once again words leave the lips of a viewer with multiple interpretations, and once again the least likely is the emotion behind the utterance. Ever since the beginning of its fifth season, Dexter has taken pleasure from torturing its fans with its frequent mood whiplashes and dips in quality, hitting lower and lower marks before somehow returning to a comfortable height in a breakneck maneuver. It would be nice if there was some consistency. What we’ll have to settle with instead is the fact that the rollercoaster is heading upwards again. Yes, two weeks after seemingly destroying its own legacy in suicidal abandon, Dexter is alive and kicking again.
With his student apparently off the deep end with a second impure homicide, Dexter...

Dexter, Season 7, Episode 4: “Run”
Written by Wendy West
Directed by John Dahl
Airs Sundays at 8pm (Et) on Showtime
It’s all about the past in the latest installment of Dexter’s revival, and also a rather dark glimpse at how an uncertain future will be dictated by events past. Despite its teasing misnomer of a title, named for a small detail ultimately not relevant to the plot, “Run” takes the baton from last week’s excellent episode and continues an easy but busy pace brimming with standout moments.
Ever suffering Debra Morgan is thrown into yet another pool of despair after failing to save a woman from crazed murderer Ray Speltzer, but continues to resist Dexter’s alternative method of justice. That is, until a technicality sees Speltzer released despite his blatant guilt and morals are blurred as options run dry. During this conflict, Dexter is confronted with...

Dexter Episode 704
“Run”
Written By: Wendy West
Directed By: John Dahl
Original Airdate: 21 October 2012
In This Episode...
Speltzer has been arrested. It took four cops to take him down, but he is in custody, and he hasn’t lawyered up. Batista primes him, gets buddy-buddy with some misogynistic crap, then brings Deb in. Deb taunts Speltzer that his mom was a prostitute, and that Speltzer wanted to fuck her. Infuriated, Speltzer admits, “I should have killed you like I killed that other bitch.” Case closed.
Well, maybe not. After arraignment, Laguerta comes into the station with the dashboard cam footage from one of the cop cars. Speltzer wasn’t properly Mirandized, which means his arrest wasn’t legal, which means his confession is out, which means he walks. Dexter is now more intent than ever on killing Speltzer. He sneaks into Speltzer’s Rv, parked at the cemetery, and plans...

When we last left Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall), his sister, Debra (Jennifer Carpenter), had finally discovered that Dex was a serial killer. So what happens next? Judging from this first still, it doesn't seem as if Deb is too pleased.
Picking up immediately where the finale left off, Season 7 will open with Debra's horrified reaction to seeing her brother kill last season's baddie, Travis. "Viewers might think we shy away from that moment of Debra walking in and seeing Dexter stabbing into Travis' chest, but it's just the opposite," says executive producer Scott Buck. "She now has to deal with what she's seen and what she knows. And it forces him to defend and define himself."
As for Deb's newly uncovered "feelings" for her adopted brother, "It's ironic that people are fine with Dexter jabbing people in the heart but mortified by this romance," says Buck. "We're not shying...

Wow everybody, we did it – the season six finale. You’ll have to pardon me a moment because if you would’ve told me five years ago that I’d be reviewing that amazingly awesome new show, Dexter, I would’ve assumed you had me confused with some other lucky soul. But here we are and I couldn’t be happier.
Well, that’s not entirely true. I wish the entire season could feel as successful as this episode was. Season six seems to be a collection where the total is less than the sum of its parts, but thankfully this particular piece of the puzzle provided even the most jaded Dexter fan with enough to be excited about next year. While I could’ve done without Quinn surviving, “This is the Way the World Ends” achieved everything it needed to very well and pretty much...

Previous nominees Boardwalk Empire and Breaking Bad and new series Homeland all racked up 3 nominations in the drama field. The Good Wife is the only network drama featuring in the Drama Series category, with Dexter getting the other slot and sadly Friday Night Lights missed out.
If you're wondering where Mad Men is; the field of eligibility for these awards runs from December, 1 2010 until November 30, 2011. This makes the Writers Guild Awards similar to the Golden Globes rather than the Emmys regarding the submission time frame. The last new episode of Mad Men aired in October 2010 so it can't be included; yes it has been more than a year since there was new episode of Mad Men.

Dexter Episode 607 "Nebraska" Written By: Wendy West Directed By: Romeo Tirone Original Airdate: 13 November 2011 In This Episode... Deb brings Dexter into her office to tell him that Trinity has struck again, in Nebraska, this time killing his wife Sally and daughter Rebecca. Son Jonah claims he was attacked, but fought him off. Naturally, Dexter assumes Jonah is the killer since he killed Trinity. Dexter is torn, though, because Jonah was always very close with his sister and mother. Brian, now taking Harry's place as Dexter's "spirit guide" (or imaginary friend, or whatever you want to call him) reminds him that homicidal tendencies may very well be...

As soon as we thought we could predict the outcome of the Oscars, here comes another surprise! This one's brought to you by the Writers Guild of America. Picked for Best Original Screenplay was Christopher Nolan's "Inception." The director, famously dissed for not getting a Best Director Oscar nomination, may just win the Best Original Screenplay come Oscar night. Oscar front-runner, "The King's Speech" was not nominated because it didn't quality under union rules which prompted Nolan to say during his WGA acceptance award that he looked forward to a time when he could accept the award "without qualification."
That could be the beginning of a great script Mr. Nolan, go write it :happy
For adapted screenplay, I'm happy to report that Aaron Sorkin's fantastic script won! Based on "The Accidental Billionaires" by Ben Mezrich, "The Social Network" was the only film last year that I predicted to win this very category.

"I Love You Phillip Morris" came out of nowhere and secured a nod for the 2011 Writers Guild Awards. Based on the book by Steven McVicker, the film starring Jim Carrey and Ewan McGRegor as prisoners in love received a Best Adapted Screenplay nomination.
"Phillip Morris" will be competing with awards-favorites "127 Hours" (screenplay by Danny Boyle & Simon Beaufoy), "The Social Network" (screenplay Aaron Sorkin), "The Town" (screenplay by Peter Craig and Ben Affleck & Aaron Stockard), and True Grit (screenplay by Joel Coen & Ethan Coen).
In the Original Screenplay category, critics-darlings "Black Swan" (screenplay by Mark Heyman and Andres Heinz and John McLaughlin), "The Fighter" (screenplay by Scott Silver and Paul Tamasy & Eric Johnson), "Inception" (Christopher Nolan), and "The Kids Are All Right" (written by Lisa Cholodenko & Stuart Blumberg) will be competing with "Please Give" by Nicole Holofcener. Writers Guild of America has announced the writers who receive nominations at next year's awards for their work in television. The most nod that one show gets is three, and that number is claimed by "Modern Family", "30 Rock" and "Breaking Bad".
"Modern Family" and "30 Rock", which have won Emmys, will be up against each other in comedy series and have each received two nods for episodic category. Meanwhile, "Breaking Bad" takes a nod in drama field and two additional episodic nominations.
AMC's "The Walking Dead" is vying for new series prize, battling "Boardwalk Empire", "Justified", "Treme" and "Men of a Certain Age" along the way. "Empire" in particular is also nominated for drama series against older and more prominent shows like "Mad Men" and "Dexter".
