DC Studios has been in a bit of trouble as they have attempted to rescue the sinking ship of the superhero slates getting released. With James Gunn taking over as the co-ceo of the superhero brand with Peter Safran, Warner Brothers is expecting a ray of sunshine. But with the failed DC movies, the fate of several movies has been hazy, including Asher Angel’s Shazam 2.
Asher Angel in Shazam! Fury of the Gods
Gunn’s tenure in DC has started, but the beginning of his new version of DC Universe is yet to roll out, which will officially begin with his upcoming movie Superman. Failure of the recent DC flops was a huge question mark on several heroes’ return— Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam, Ezra Miller’s The Flash, and Zachary Levi’s Shazam 2. But with Gunn’s takeover, the potential comeback has been slim to none.

No matter how dire the circumstances, Batman is known for his unwavering “no-kill” code, which forbids him from taking a life in DC Comics. However, in Injustice God Among Us: Year Three, Bruce Wayne breaks his own rule to protect one of his dearest friends, Superman.
As everyone knows, the Joker from DC is one of the vilest, vicious, and most depraved supervillains. Nevertheless, Superman is restricted by the same code that keeps Batman from killing the Clown Prince of Crime. For similar reasons, both DC superheroes have strong moral codes prohibiting them from killing their enemies. Yet, in recent years, DC comic writers have endeavored to differentiate between the two.

Frank Grillo was sorely underutilised in the MCU. After first playing Brock Rumlow for a memorable supporting turn in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, he returned as Crossbones in Captain America: Civil War...and immediately died.
The actor got a cameo in Avengers: Endgame and has lent his voice to What If...?, but it's looking like he'll have much more to do in the Dcu.
After being cast as Rick Flag Sr. in DC Studios' animated Creature Commandos, it's been confirmed today that Grillo will make the leap to live-action and reprise the role in Peacemaker season 2.
"Pleased to announce the great [Frank Grillo] will be reprising the role of Rick Flag, Sr - the role he’ll first play in animated form in 'Creature Commando's - throughout Season 2 of 'Peacemaker,'" DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn said on Instagram. "Christopher Smith and Rick Sr have a little unfinished business to take care of.

More than two years after "Peacemaker" season 1 aired its finale, the second season of the DC series is finally coming together. DC Studios co-head James Gunn has revealed an intriguing bit of casting for the show as production gets going, with Frank Grillo returning to the DC Universe as Rick Flag Sr. We say "returning" because Grillo is already playing the part in the upcoming animated TV series "Creature Commandoes." So yes, he will be making the jump from animation to live-action. This brings a plan Gunn has had in place since the beginning of this DC reboot full circle.

Despite mostly positive initial reactions, Patty Jenkins Wonder Woman 1984 was widely panned by critics and fans alike when it was released, but the movie does still have its share of loyal supporters - and can count one of its stars among them.
After being killed off at the end of the first movie, Chris Pine's Steve Trevor returned under somewhat bizarre circumstances in the sequel for a reunion with Gal Gadot's Amazonian hero. In the end, Diana was forced to "wish" Trevor back out of existence in order to defeat Maxwell Lord (Pedro Pascal), and the couple shared an emotional farewell.
While chatting about his most iconic roles with Entertainment Weekly, Pine defended WW84, and said he believed the movie was given such a hard time because it focused more on "forgiveness and compassion" than the usual superhero fare.

James Gunn and Peter Safran have no doubt that they’ll have to push their boundaries if they are to harbor any hopes of making the DC Universe a success that can go on to challenge the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After the DC Extended Universe’s dismal run, there is a lot of pressure on this franchise to deliver.
No wonder that they are trying to get everything right. And one step in that direction is getting the cast right. For now, it seems like Iñaki Godoy might be perfect for one role in the new franchise.

Zack Snyder launched the Dceu back in 2013 with the Henry Cavill starrer Man of Steel. While the film was a reboot of the Superman franchise, it also acted as the first film in a planned shared universe which would ultimately lead to the Justice League, much like DC’s competitors Marvel. Snyder even had a planned five-part story for the film franchise.
However, Snyder got to truly realize his vision due to the studio’s mismanagement issues and his own personal problems. The filmmaker was reportedly also planning a Man of Steel 2, which would have seen Superman fight Brainiac. While the film never materialized, the first image from James Gunn’s Superman might indicate the presence of the popular villain.

Patty Jenkins Confirms Wonder Woman 3 Is Dead; Says DC Studios Are "Not Interested" In The Character
Despite Gal Gadot's insistence that she'll return as Diana Prince, all signs point to her time as Wonder Woman having ended. James Gunn has already cast a new Superman and is searching for Batman, so there's no reason to believe he'd keep the Dceu actress around.
The plug was pulled on Wonder Woman 3 pretty soon after DC Studios was formed as it didn't fit into their direction for the new Dcu.
That meant Wonder Woman and Wonder Woman 1984 writer/director Patty Jenkins was given her marching orders, and she confirmed the planned threequel isn't happening during a recent interview.
Asked if the movie has been scrapped, the filmmaker said, "Yeah, for the time being, but probably easily forever." Asked if another director would take her place, Jenkins responded, "No, they’re not interested in doing any Wonder Woman for the time being."

As director Patty Jenkins confirms that Wonder Woman 3 was axed by Warner Bros, co-star Chris Pine has expressed his befuddlement at the decision.
Director Patty Jenkins, who made 2017’s Wonder Woman and its 2020 sequel Wonder Woman 1984, has confirmed that the third film in the series is essentially dead. James Gunn and Peter Safran have been pretty busy bringing a new era of Dcu to live action. And their first-ever film will be Superman, releasing next year. Starring David Corenswet as the titular superhero, fans are needless to say excited and eagerly awaiting.

As we know, Wonder Woman 3 is no longer moving forward now that James Gunn and Peter Safran have taken over DC Studios, but it’s a choice Chris Pine doesn’t understand.
Chris Pine. who played Steve Trevor in Wonder Woman and Wonder Woman 1984, told Business Insider that he was “stunned” when he learned Wonder Woman 3 had been axed. “I’m stunned that they said no to a billion-dollar franchise and decided to pivot elsewhere,” Pine said “I don’t know what the reasoning was behind that; it’s above my pay grade, but Wonder Woman is an incredible character; Patty is such a thoughtful director.”
The actor had no expectations that he would have been involved in the third movie. “Me. No. Homie is dead. Steve is gonzo,” he said. “It would be ridiculous to try to bring me back.” Trevor was killed off in the first Wonder Woman...

A third Wonder Woman movie was in development at Warner Bros. right up until James Gunn and Peter Safran took over as co-heads of the relaunched DC Studios, and the decision to scrap the project came as a surprise to a lead actor from the previous films.
While promoting his new movie, Poolman, during an interview with Business Insider, Chris Pine (Steve Trevor) said he was "shocked" that the studio would pull the plug on a franchise that took in almost $1 billion at the worldwide box office.

It’s Superman!
On Monday, “Superman” writer-director James Gunn released the first look at star David Corenswet as Superman in an Instagram post.
The photo depicts the Man of Steel sitting in what appears to be a luxury highrise condo in his iconic blue, red, and yellow costume. He’s pulling on his boots, presumably to deal with the pink-and-blue comet-like burst that’s visible in the sky out the window. He may be a nearly immortal superhero from the planet Krypton, but he puts his boots on one at a time like everyone else.

Superman filmmaker James Gunn and star David Corenswet have posted on social media the new Man of Steel suit.
It’s a rather rugged costume, not as pristine as previous feature iterations, indicating the edgy take that Gunn is taking here with his movie. The film will be Warner Bros.’ fourth time revamping the DC superhero in longform (not counting big screen serials) following filmmakers Richard Donner (1978), Bryan Singer (2006) and Zack Snyder (2013).
Corenswet follows in the footsteps of such actors playing the son of Jor-El in feature films as Christopher Reeve (1978-87), Brandon Routh (2006) and Henry Cavill (2013-2022).
This is a unit shot, it’s not an overly produced CGI shot, and it’s indicative of what we’ll see in the film. Not everything is green screen, and that creates an environment that’s significantly better for the actors.

Look, up in the sky! It’s a bird, it’s a plane – no it’s David Corenswet in our first official look at the actor in full Superman regalia! DC just posted the pic to social media along with the tease, “get ready”, and its official July 11th, 2025 release date. As you can see from the above pic, Corenswet’s Man of Steel seems to be a bit battle-worn, with his costume looking like it went through a bit of a beating. Metropolis is visible behind him, as well as some chaos in the sky, prompting our hero to do something we’ve never really seen him do in a movie so far – suit up!
Indeed, the classic way for Superman to get ready is to spin around in a circle or dive into a phone booth. Here, Corenswet’s version of the character seems to be in a...

Chris Pine is shocked Patty Jenkins’ “Wonder Woman” franchise is dead. The actor recently spoke to Business Insider while promoting his feature directorial debut “Poolman” and said he’s struggling to understand how Warner Bros. could pull the plug on a franchise that grossed the studio nearly $1 billion at the worldwide box office.
“I’m stunned that they said no to a billion-dollar franchise and decided to pivot elsewhere,” Pine said. “I don’t know what the reasoning was behind that; it’s above my pay grade, but Wonder Woman is an incredible character; Patty is such a thoughtful director.”
Pine starred as Steve Trevor opposite Gal Gadot’s “Wonder Woman” in two Warner Bros. comic book tentpoles directed by Jenkins: 2017’s “Wonder Woman” and 2022’s “Wonder Woman 1984.” The director was developing a third movie for Gadot’s superhero when DC Studios brought in James Gunn and Peter Safran as its new leaders.

DC’s The Flash Starring Ezra Miller Was Released In 2023 But Flopped At The Box Office ( Photo Credit – IMDb )
One of DC’s most ambitious projects was one of their worst box office failures. The Flash was an astounding failure despite its much-hyped status. The movie was clouded by the scandal of its lead, Ezra Miller, but its net profit suffered because of everything’s storyline. After a year, the movie emerged as the second most significant failure of 2023 and lost considerable money.
There was a lot of anticipation about The Flash, especially with the rumors of a Michael Keaton cameo. However, the movie’s public suffered after lead star Ezra Miller was arrested for heinous allegations. Still, die-hard fans of the franchise showed up, but it wasn’t enough. Remember ‘Black Adam’ released in 2022? If you don’t it’s perfectly fine since the movie was a commercial flop and panned by critics. Its only redeeming quality is the fact that Dwayne The Rock Johnson played the character, seemingly born to bring it to live action.
One of the things however that you will most likely remember if you watched the movie at all is the post-credit scene that promises a bright future for both Johnson’s Black Adam and Cavill’s Superman.
Back when the movie flopped there were rumors going around that The Rock wanted to completely change the hierarchy of power within the DC, quite literally as he allegedly wanted to take over the studio and position his own production house to the top to handle all upcoming Dceu projects.

Did you catch ‘Black Adam’ in 2022? If not, no worries. Critics panned it, and it didn’t do well at the box office. But hey, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s performance as the lead was solid, right?
But what really sticks out, especially if you saw it, is the post-credit scene hinting at a crossover with Superman.
When ‘Black Adam’ tanked, rumors swirled that The Rock aimed to shake up DC, literally. Allegedly, he sought to snatch control of the studio, putting his own production company in charge of future Dceu projects.
The Wrap recently dropped an exclusive report on the saga. Apparently, The Rock and Cavill’s manager, Garcia, plotted to boot then-DC Studios head, Walter Hamada. But their scheme was thwarted by James Gunn and Peter Safran, who were brought in to salvage what they could of the Dceu.

When James Gunn and Peter Safran revitalized the Dceu, rebranding it as the Dcu, it signaled a major overhaul in casting. Ben Affleck’s departure from the role of Batman was no secret, and Robert Pattinson’s portrayal, while acclaimed, existed within the realm of Elseworlds, separate from the primary cinematic universe.
With nearly the entire “Superman” cast being replaced, speculation now turns to the next Batman actor. Three prominent contenders have emerged, each eager for the coveted role.
1. Alan Ritchson
Ritchson didn’t hide his desire to portray Batman; he’s been vocal about it, even expressing a willingness to shout it from rooftops. With the physique and voice suited for the role, he’s garnered a sizable fanbase eager to support his candidacy. For Ritchson, taking on the mantle of The Dark Knight would be a prestigious honor, given Batman’s intellect, array of gadgets, and supercars. As...

When James Gunn & Peter Safran rebooted Dceu and renamed it into Dcu we knew that pretty much most of the cast would be replaced. Ben Affleck also made it quite clear that he is not interested in playing Batman further and Robert Pattison’s Batman was part of the Elseworlds, meaning that he was never canon to the primary cinematic universe.
Now with pretty much 99 % of ‘Superman’ cast, the rumors have it that Batman is the next in line to be cast, and we have three contenders who are practically begging to be cast.

Ritchson wasn’t exactly coy about wanting to play Batman, he recently quite literally told us that he is willing to shout it from the rooftops. Ritchson has the physique (and the voice) to play him, and he has quite a large fanbase willing to petition for him. Ritchson said it would be quite...

The year 1989 saw Tim Burton joining the world of DC Comics with his movie Batman. Michael Keaton starred as the brooding vigilante opposite Jack Nicholson’s Joker. The movie also spawned a sequel titled Batman Returns in the year 1992.
Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne/Batman
The idea for the movie first came from the mind of Michael E. Ulsan, who purchased the film rights of Batman from DC Comics in 1979 along with his producing partner, Benjamin Melniker. He wanted to bring back the dark and serious Batman instead of the campy 1960 version from the Adam West-led television series. But it took him a long time to find a home for the Dark Knight before Tim Burton and Michael Keaton could give the audience a Batman like that of the 1989 movie.

Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster tournament is back. While studios during Covid wildly embraced the theatrical day-and-date model when cinemas were closed, they soon realized there’s nothing more profitable than a theatrical release and the downstreams that come with it. If anything, theatrical is the advertisement for a movie’s longevity in subsequent home entertainment windows. Entering the conversation in 2023 were the streamers, such as Apple, who have also realized the necessity of theatrical to eventize their movies. The financial data pulled together here for Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster Tournament is culled by seasoned and trusted sources.

Before James Gunn and Peter Safran were hired to take charge of DC Studios, a Green Lantern TV series was in the works revolving around Guy Gardner and Alan Scott.
The story was set to play out across two different time periods, deepening Lantern lore. However, while it was heading to Max, we expected it to be more in line with Titans and Doom Patrol rather than a big budget superhero series akin to those seen on Disney+, for example.
There was chatter about it tying into the planned Green Lantern Corps movie, though, and an impressive cast started coming together with Finn Wittrock tapped as Guy and Jeremy Irvine set to play Alan.
Now, Wittrock - best known for American Horror Story and All My Children - has broken his silence on being ousted from the role when DC Studios set out to reboot the Dceu as the Dcu.

A fan shared a quote from Nathan Fillion about how he found out he was cast as Green Lantern in the new DC film, which will be released in 2025.
“We were actually at the premiere party after Suicide Squad and he [Gunn] was in a huge crowd of people,” Fillion said in an interview with Collider. “…He goes, ‘Hey, did Peter [Safran] tell you what we’ve got for you next?’ I said, ‘No, he hasn’t said.’ He looked around like someone was gonna be listening. James Gunn is debunking a conspiracy theory that alleges he already knew about Henry Cavill’s Superman re-casting while he was promoting “The Suicide Squad.” That timeline does not make sense, Gunn suggested in a post on Threads, as he was not in charge of DC Studios in 2021 when “The Suicide Squad” released. It wasn’t until Dec. 2022 that DC Studios announced Gunn and Peter Safran as its new bosses.
Some DC fans were accusing Gunn of lying about his involvement in Cavill’s Superman exit after actor Nathan Fillion was quoted telling Collider that Gunn told him at “The Suicide Squad” premiere party in 2021 that he would be cast as Guy Gardner (aka The Green Lantern) in a new Superman movie.

When Black Adam finally brought Henry Cavill back, fans were ecstatic to see Dceu’s Superman return, but unfortunately, the movie itself failed to make it big at the box office. Shortly after, Wbd hired James Gunn and Peter Safran to salvage the DC brand, which led to the duo scrapping the struggling Dceu in favor of a fresh start.
While many would agree DC desperately needed this reboot, some fans were disheartened following Henry Cavill’s exit, as Gunn opted for a younger actor to play Dcu’s version of Clark Kent. As a result, some started accusing the new DC head of screwing over Cavill, and Gunn finally broke his silence on the matter.

Once set up at the Max streaming service, the TV series Dead Boy Detectives, which is based on characters Neil Gaiman created for DC Comics in the pages of The Sandman issue #25, is now calling Netflix its home, having moved away from Max last year because it “doesn’t fit with DC executives James Gunn and Peter Safran’s plans for the Dcu.” The show premiered on April 25th (you can read our review Here) – and to mark the occasion, a new addition to the team here at JoBlo.com, Kyanna Mondezie, was given the opportunity to conduct interviews with several members of the cast: George Rexstrew, Jayden Revri, Kassius Nelson, and Yuyu Kitamura. You can hear what they had to say about their experience working on the show by checking out the video embedded above. Also interviewed were series creator Steve Yockey and showrunner Beth Schwartz.

Over a year ago, James Gunn and Peter Safran stepped in as Co-Producers and Co-CEOs of DC Studios, even though the Dceu wasn’t doing well. Fans were upset because the universe was getting rebooted despite a few successful movies among many failures.
Safran and Gunn revealed a lineup of new movies, including a new live-action ‘Superman’ set for release in 2025. This ‘Superman’ movie is at the heart of the conspiracy theory, sparking discussion from start to finish.
After ‘Black Adam’ hit theaters, its unexpected failure left many surprised, especially since it teased Cavill’s Superman in a post-credits scene. A sequel to ‘Man of Steel’ was in the works, with ‘Black Adam’ intended to play a significant role in the future of the Dceu.
However, following the movie’s flop, WB executives opted to scrap the entire universe. Despite Cavill being instructed to assure fans of his return as Superman,...

More than a year ago, James Gunn and Peter Safran took over DC Studios as Co-Producers and Co-CEOs, despite Dceu severely underperforming, fans were disappointed and angry. Mostly due to the universe being completely rebooted despite having a few hits among a lot of failures.
Safran and Gunn announced a slate of movies, among them being the new live-action ‘Superman’ bound to be released in 2025, and this is actually the root of this conspiracy theory, everything starts and ends with ‘Superman.’
Following the release of ‘Black Adam’ no one expected the movie to flop to such an extent, and a post-credits scene teasing Cavill’s Superman was included in the movie. A sequel to Man of Steel was planned and it was planned for Black Adam to be a large part of Dceu going forward.
When the movie flopped the execs at WB decided to pull the plug on the whole universe,...

When we think of Zack Snyder, our minds might automatically soar to his superhero epics like Man of Steel or Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. But did you know there were two other ambitious projects that, despite Snyder’s imaginative touch, ended up being even bigger financial hurdles for Warner Bros?
Yes, we’re talking about the aesthetically stunning yet underrated Legends of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole (2010) and the stylistically bold Sucker Punch (2011).

Ever wonder why some films are a powerful combination of visual art and storytelling but fail miserably at the box office, rather than just being a flickering collection of scenes? Both films showcased Snyder’s unique narrative ambition but encountered unexpected turbulence in their financial flight.
While critics’ claims that Warner Bros. did not profit from its high-definition content are untrue, former WB President Greg Silverman has...

Pierce Brosnan making his debut in the superhero world was not something had expected. Yet as fate would have it, the actor soon became probably the best part of Dwayne Johnson’s failed superhero venture, Black Adam. Starring as Dr. Fate aka Kent Nelson, Brosnan did an impeccable job and fans have been wanting to see more of him despite his grand sacrifice in the film.
Pierce Brosnan in Tomorrow Never Dies
While James Gunn and Peter Safran bringing one of DC’s oldest comic characters back to the screen seems like a distant dream, Brosnan can make his return to the world of superheroes elsewhere. And if his recent appearance is to be taken into consideration, Brosnan would look incredible as MCU’s Magneto.
Pierce Brosnan Would Be Perfect For MCU’s Magneto
Pierce Brosnan as Dr Fate in Black Adam
Pierce Brosnan is an incredible actor with some extraordinary talents.

“Justice League Unlimited” was the epic team-up of Earth’s greatest heroes. Unlike its predecessor’s episodic format, Jlu offered a vast array of standalone adventures featuring the iconic DC heroes we all know and love – from Superman and Batman to lesser-known gems like Fire and Ice.

Fast forward to today, with James Gunn taking the reins of DC Studios alongside Peter Safran. Fans are abuzz with anticipation for the future of the DC cinematic universe. Among the possible future projects of the new DC is a revived Jlu, but there’s one huge roadblock to this.
