Sure, Ryan Reynolds turned in a riveting performance in 2010’s Buried, but his casting in Marjane Satrapi’s English language debut may feel a bit dubious, but an oddly mixed supporting cast, consisting of Jackie Weaver, Gemma Arterton, and Anna Kendrick, seems hopeful. Director: Marjane Satrapi
Writer: Michael R. Perry
Producers: Matthew Rhodes, Adi Shankar, Roy Lee, Spencer Silna
U.S. Distributor: Rights Available
Cast: Ryan Reynolds, Anna Kendrick, Gemma Arterton, Jackie Weaver
Sure, Ryan Reynolds turned in a riveting performance in 2010’s Buried, but his casting in Marjane Satrapi’s English language debut may feel a bit dubious, but an oddly mixed supporting cast, consisting of Jackie Weaver, Gemma Arterton, and Anna Kendrick, seems hopeful. We’re thinking screenwriter Michael R. Perry perhaps gives the best indication of the material’s tone, so fans of the short lived television series “The River” should be excited (though among his list of credits, “American Gothic” still stands as a bright piece of weirdness). Needless to say, The Voices is for some an intriguing end product, especially since Satrapi brought her regular editor, Stephane Roche along, as well as cinematographer Maxime Alexandre (who...

The Voices marks the Oscar-nominated Marjane Satrapi’s first film to be fully in the English language, making its debut out at Sundance over the weekend.
Ryan Reynolds leads a great cast in the comedy crime-thriller, and its genre blend combined with its synopsis below is enough to pique our interest. Following its bow out in Park City, the first teaser poster has launched over on Collider, giving us a tease of the murderous and comedic acts to come.
Jerry is a seemingly normal man trying to succeed in his new job at the Milton Bathtub Factory. He lives in a normal apartment—the type you would expect from a young bachelor—with his dog, Bosco, and his cat, Mr. Whiskers. Yet something seems off. As the new guy at work, Jerry is asked to help plan the company picnic, and he meets Fiona, an attractive English girl from accounting.

Ryan Reynolds is in talks to star in The Voices for director Marjane Satrapi (Persepolis). The Black Listed script was written by Paranormal Activity‘s Michael Perry.
If cast Reynolds will play Jerry Hickfang…
“… a lovable but strange bathtub factory worker who yearns for the attention of a woman in accounting. When their relationship takes a sudden murderous turn, Jerry’s evil talking cat and benevolent talking dog lead him down a fantastical path that ultimately brings him to salvation.”
This the first I’ve heard of The Voices, but I have to say I’m in full support of any film that showcases the inherent evil of cats.
Matthew Rhodes and Cathy Schulman are producing for Manderlay Films along with Vertigo Entertainment’s Roy Lee and Mandalay Senior Vice President Adam Stone. Filming is expected to start in early 2013.

The talking pet genre has always had a loyal following, from Cats & Dogs to An American Tail: Fievel Goes West to the mecca, Homeward Bound. But it’s almost always been a purely family, kids friendly genre. That is, until now. This Is All Verbatim From Screen 2/12/12 Focus On Cathy And Her Adventures
:Exclusive: Larry Charles’s $30m comedy starring Jim Carrey set to shoot this summer across Europe, Foresight’s hot Berlin continues
Larry Charles-Jim Carrey comedy Pierre Pierre has been given a new lease of life by Mark Damon’s Foresight Unlimited, Mandalay Vision and Lago Films, with Foresight boarding international sales pre-market and already closing deals in Russia (West), Benelux (Dfw), Scandinavia (Mis. Label), Eastern Europe (Revolutionary Releasing), Hong Kong (Deltamac), Middle East (Shooting Stars), Thailand (M Pictures), Latin America (Imagem and Gussi), Portugal (Lusomundo), Israel (United Kingdom) and Iceland (Myndform).
UK and other deal-makers are swarming. Berlin-based producer Marco Mehlitz of Lago Film (A Dangerous Method) recently came on board and closed a deal for German rights with Warner Bros. The pan-European shoot is set for summer 2012, with most of the production taking place in Germany.
Pierre Pierre centres on a self-indulgent French nihilist (Carrey) who steals the Mona Lisa from the Louvre in the hope of selling it so he can finally move out of his parents house.
Producers are Jason Blumenthal and Todd Black of Escape Artists, Matthew Rhodes and Cathy Schulman of Mandalay Vision and Mehlitz of Lago. Rhodes is in town touting the comedy. Steve Tisch and David Bloomfield of Escape Artists and Damon are executive producers.
The oft-reincarnated comedy from writers Edwin Cannistraci and Frederick Seton was once budgeted at $20m, but now stands at $30m due to the strong supporting cast who are now in talks. “The supporting characters are real-sink-your-teeth-into roles for both European and Us actors,” Rhodes told Screen. Mandalay was brought the film by Escape Artists last summer.
Fox, who initially acquired the spec script for $1 million but moved off soon after director Jason Reitman dropped out, are still said to be “excited” by the project and could come on board Us rights later down the line.
Foresight also handles market buzzers 2 Guns and Rule #1.

According to Deadline, British director Julian Jarrold has just been hired by Mandalay Vision to helm the upcoming indie thriller Exit 147. Scripted by Travis Milloy, Cathy Schulman and Matthew Rhodes have signed on to produce for Mandalay alongside Lenny Beckerman.
Exit 147 follows a young father, who is driving across country to see his daughter. He “is stopped by a sheriff at Exit 147, and it turns into a psychological game of cat and mouse with deadly consequences.” Unfortunately, I’m getting some flashbacks to 2001 and the Paul Walker-led Joy Ride, but that’s just because of the whole “psychological game of cat and mouse” element I’m guessing; so let’s hope Exit 147 takes a different *ahem* route.
For those unfamiliar with Jarrold‘s filmography, he directed the 2007 Jane Austen biography Becoming Jane, which starred Anne Hathaway, as well as Red Riding 1974 and one of the Kinky Boots films. It...

If you don’t hear anything about a project for more than 18 months — no matter the size or prestige — something’s probably not going to plan. Such was the case with Pierre Pierre, a comedy that Jim Carrey has been trying to get into motion for years to no avail. Our last update, as indicated came in mid-July of 2010, when Borat Larry Charles (Borat) was brought on to helm Edwin Cannistraci and Frederick Seton‘s Black List script, which revolves around “a self-indulgent French nihilist (Carrey) who steals the Mona Lisa from the Louvre in the hope of selling it so he can finally move out of his parents house.” Since then, it’s been nothing but quiet.
Until now, with ScreenDaily reporting that Charles, Carrey, Foresight Unlimited, Mandalay Vision, and Lago Films powering the thing back to life, as the latter three groups have signed on to produce the picture at a $30 million budget.
