Twenty years ago, Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage’s breakout hit The O.C., about a group of teens coming of age in Newport Beach, premiered on Fox. By the time the 27-episode first season aired its finale in the spring of 2004, the show was the highest-rated drama on TV among adults 18 to 34 and had catapulted its stars — whose characters were affectionately known as the “Core Four” — to massive, near-overnight popularity.
It wouldn’t be the first or last young adult series in the U.S. to generate a cultural frenzy. But the industry ecosystem that birthed and defined zeitgeisty YA shows like it — 22-episode drama series with largely white casts found through in-person auditions — is vanishing. The Flash returned to what made the show great. "Flash Back" was an episode that was able to incorporate all the things that make this show great. "Flash Back" focused on the concept that the only person that would be able to help Barry get faster is the Reverse-Flash. This meant in order to get the answers he needed Barry would have to travel back in time to ask his old nemesis for help. The antagonist of this episode was the introduction to Time Wraiths which had a similar resemblance to Dementor's from Harry Potter. It was great that the show even admitted to it when Cisco describe them as such.
Let's put into perspective how great of a job David Rapaport and J.J. Ogilvy have done with casting this show. Grant Gustin has become the breakout star but without a doubt Tom Cavanagh is the catalyst for this show.

Rumer Willis was surprised to hear that she was initially pitched to play Serena van der Woodsen on Gossip Girl.

The Upper East Side could have looked a lot different! It seems two other actresses were in the running to play Serena van der Woodsen and Blair Waldorf on "Gossip Girl" before Blake Lively and Leighton Meester landed the roles. "I think the network initially pitched us Ashley Olsen and Rumer Willis for Blair and Serena," CW casting director David Rapaport told BuzzFeed. "I love Rumer, she’s grown into quite an amazing actress and person, but that, to me, was based on protecting the investment of a television show where creatively, these lesser-known girls really captured the essence of the show and carried it for six years." For Rapaport, Lively was always perfect for the role of the troubled New York socialite. "I had seen her in 'Accepted' and at that time, there were no Lena Dunhams or Zooey Deschanels — it was all about beauty and glamour,...

It's time to play another game of "What could have been?" on the casting couch. David Rapaport, the casting director for the CW, is the one who has been shepherding all of those Neutrogena-rich faces to your television for years, and he spoke with BuzzFeed about some of your favorite shows — including Gossip Girl, Arrow, and The Flash. For instance, casting the greatest show of our time came during the height of O.C. mania, and co-creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage told Rapaport that they were looking for "the next Mischa Barton and Adam Brody." Originally the network pitched Ashley Olsen and Rumer Willis for Blair Waldorf and Serena van der Woodsen, but Rapaport was firm on Blake Lively. “Blake Lively was literally the only person I could think of for Serena," said Rapaport, breathlessly (we imagine). The network's first note was that Lively looked "a sunny California girl...

This season we saw four new DC Comics television shows come to life, one being The Flash, which has claimed most critical success, along with some impressive ratings records, bringing in new historic numbers for The CW. It takes a lot to say when someone/something is one of the most exceptional things of a whole TV season when you have had the launch of several new outstanding programming like How to Get Away with Murder, Empire, and . However, even with all of those strong new series, it’s been truly amazing to see the scarlet speedster come to life in such a triumphant adaptation with great showrunners and writers that embrace the source material for television. The series also has one of the most well assembled casts on TV, thanks to Arrow/The Flash/Supergirl/DC’s Legends of Tomorrow casting director David Rapaport. The cast, writing, and execution...

Casting for CBS’ upcoming Supergirl drama is currently underway, thanks to Arrow and The Flash casting director David Rapaport. Last night, we learned some character details for the titular Last Daughter of Krypton herself, along with her newly-created foster sister, and now we have information on four supporting characters that will act as series regulars.
Yesterday’s details showed that the series would deviate greatly from the comic books, giving Kara an all-new origin story and a presumably lonely existence without so much as a mention of her cousin, Superman. As it turns out, that won’t stop the show from using some Superman staple characters, though they too will likely differ from their comic book counterparts.
First on the list is Cat Grant, who was introduced in the late 1980s as a love interest who caused a bit of trouble for Superman and Lois Lane. She was a reporter for the Daily Planet,...

One of the more unexpected TV announcements in recent months has been that of a "Supergirl" TV series which CBS picked up in September.

We recently found out that a Supergirl television series had landed a series commitment at CBS, and that it would be coming from Arrow and The Flash producer Greg Berlanti and Ali Adler (No Ordinary Family). Now it seems that, despite being on a different network to those other 2 DC superhero shows, Berlanti has once again turned to casting director David Rapaport to find our new small-screen Kara Zor-El and her supporting characters, whoever they may wind up being. pic.twitter.com/t8woOBbypr — DavidRapaportCasting (@RapaportCasting) October 29, 2014 Despite Rapaport casting all three shows, it's not expected that Supergirl will be a part of the same TV universe as Arrow and The Flash (though some crossover might be a possibility), but fans seem to have taken to Stephen Amell and Grant Gustin in their roles so young Kara would appear to be in good hands at least. Here's a brief synopsis for the show.

Last month, it was announced that a Supergirl television show had landed a series commitment at CBS, and that it would be coming from Arrow and The Flash producer Greg Berlanti and his frequent collaborator, Ali Adler (No Ordinary Family). Now, we’ve learned that the producer is not the only thing that Supergirl will share with the likes of CW’s two super shows. David Rapaport, the casting director who found Stephen Amell and Grant Gustin for Arrow and The Flash, respectively, will also find our Kara Zor-El.
It’s not at all surprising that Berlanti would once again turn to Rapaport to find the star for his latest DC Comics adaptation. Amell and Gustin are widely revered as excellent choices for their title roles, and are surrounded by a pretty unique and well-balanced cast of supporting characters as well. So, it’s likely that Rapaport will find similar luck with Supergirl.

Pilot season creeps in this petty pace from day to day. A few more casting directors landed projects at the end of last week. David Rapaport will handle casting for the CW's new comic-book adaptation, "Arrow." The titular arrow is the Green Arrow, who was just your average trust fund kid until a boating accident stranded him on an uninhabited island, causing him to re-evaluate his insouciant approach to life while also turning him into a skilled bow hunter. Why the network dropped "green" from the title is unclear, although an exhaustive study of this year's box office receipts reveals that green is the least popular super hero color. This will be Rapaport's second pilot season casting a super-hero project, as he was the CD on NBC's "Wonder Woman" pilot last year. "Arrow" is scheduled to get under way in March. This next pilot is about a female in law enforcement.
