The Walking Dead is over, but like the zombies at the heart (er, brains?) of the tale, the franchise lives on.
Clocking in at 11 seasons and 177 episodes all told, the AMC horror drama shuffled off into the afterlife, only to birth a bevy of spinoff shows, most of which center on beloved characters from the original series like the Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira) reunion series The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live. Beyond those continuing adventures, there are also the spinoffs without too many overt ties to the “flagship” Walking Dead, including the very first of these spinoffs, Fear the Walking Dead (also now in the grave, joined there by the two-seasons-and-out The Walking Dead: World Beyond and single season anthology series Tales of the Walking Dead).
Why the veritable Wikipedia entry? Because it highlights this central feature across all of the various Walking Deads: there are...

This post contains spoilers for the premiere of "The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live."
They finally did it. Just moments into the premiere episode of the new series "The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live," right after audiences catch a glimpse of hero Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) for the first time in over five years, the poor man finally loses a hand.
It's a twist that's been a long time coming for fans of Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, and Charlie Adlard's "Walking Dead" comic books, yet this new spinoff series manages to make it feel utterly shocking nonetheless. In the original comics, cop-turned-world-weary apocalypse survivor Rick gets a surprise amputation courtesy of The Governor as early as issue 28. In the AMC "Walking Dead" universe, however, The Governor came and went an entire decade ago, with David Morrisey in the role of the eye-patch-wearing villain.

[This story contains major spoilers from The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live series premiere.]
There are a few iconic moments every Walking Dead fan knows right off the top of their head. Like the fall of the prison or Negan’s arrival via a bloody baseball bat. But those who only watch the AMC TV series, the ones who never read the comic books from Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard, missed out on one of the biggest milestones from the comics: Rick Grimes losing his hand, cleaved off during his first meeting with The Governor.
These days, in the live-action version of the Walking Dead universe, the Governor is long gone. Now, finally, so is Rick’s hand.
In the opening minutes of The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, Andrew Lincoln makes his triumphant return as Rick Grimes, last seen presumably killed in action (but actually alive, if not well, in a helicopter headed...

Giancarlo Esposito is returning to AMC, the home of his Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, in Parish, a thriller set in New Orleans.
Esposito, himself a gearhead, stars as Gracian “Gray” Parish, a family man and proud owner of a luxury car service in The Big Easy.
Speaking at AMC’s TCA press tour, Esposito said New Orleans is a “city of demons”.
“It’s a city that has a majority of churches, more than any other city in America. It’s a city with bars on every corner, where you can party until four in the morning. It seems like a place where you have to make a choice and our show’s a lot about the choices that Gracian Parish makes, whether they be good choices or bad choices and how they affect his family,” he said. “It was so much about the family and community, not only the city,...

There are no capes and there is no spandex in Dampyr, the fantasy horror film by Italian director Riccardo Chemello. But the English-language feature, which has been a surprise hit on Netflix, is the first entry in what you could call the Bonelli Cinematic Universe.
The vampire-hunter tale, starring Wade Briggs, Stuart Martin, Frida Gustavsson, Sebastian Croft, David Morrissey and Luke Roberts, is the first of a new wave of comic-book adaptations from Bonelli Entertainment, the Italian publisher billed as Italy’s answer to Marvel.
The film, which cracked the top 3 on Netflix’s US service, is the origin story of Harlan Draka, a Serbian dampyr, or half-breed offspring of a vampire dad and human mother, whose blood has the power to kill the undead. Draka was first introduced to Italian comic fans 20 years ago — the collapse of the former Yugoslavia and the 1990s Balkan war is the comic’s...

Prime Video series “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” has unveiled first look images.
The series is a reimagining of the 2005 film starring Brad Pit and Angelina Jolie as Mr. Smith and Mrs. Smith, respectively. In this iteration, Donald Glover (“The Martian”) stars as John Smith, while Maya Erskine (“PEN15”) stars as Jane Smith.
This new version features John and Jane both landing jobs working for an international spy agency where they must pose as spouses Mr. Smith and Mrs. Smith. As they navigate a new mission each week, they find themselves falling in love with one another, complicating — and compromising — their “strictly business” relationship. Notably, this version features an intentional sham marriage between two strangers, as compared to the 2005 original, in which Mr. Smith and Mrs. Smith were married without being aware of each other’s identity as an assassin.

“She weren’t a prostitute this time – she were innocent.”
This line – spoken by David Morrissey as Dcs George Oldfield in The Long Shadow’s third episode, when 16 year old Jayne MacDonald is found dead – pretty much says it all. Because by this point in ITV’s Yorkshire Ripper drama, we know two other women, Wilma McCann and Emily Jackson, have also been killed, but after the police labelled them as sex workers their deaths have been treated very differently to Jayne MacDonald.
We’ve seen detectives like Oldfield refer to sex workers as “whores”, “slags”, “hookers”, “prozzies” and “tarts”, but it’s still a gut punch to viewers to hear it said so plainly: to the police – even senior detectives – sex workers who get murdered aren’t “innocent”, but somehow deserving of the violence inflicted on them.

From its opening moments, of a girl jumping rope while counting and naming the stars in the nighttime sky, Peter Greenaway’s Drowning by Numbers is perhaps the most direct illustration of the filmmaker’s key thematic and aesthetic interest in ascribing structure to a chaotic universe. Throughout, the film slowly counts from one to 100 via a combination of character dialogue and visual markers sprinkled in frames like an elaborate game of I Spy. In deadpan voiceovers, a young boy also elaborates the byzantine rules of made-up games whose goals seem altogether too banal to be worth their complexity.
The plot that strings together these playful games involves three women, each named Cissie Colpitts, who drown their husbands and enlist the help of a coroner, Madgett (Bernard Hill), to cover up the crimes. In a relatively light preamble to the darker feminist revenge drama of Greenaway’s subsequent The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover...

Exclusive: Britannia will leave its army of fans on a cliffhanger finale after Sky decided not to renew the epic fantasy historical drama for Season 4.
Produced by UK companies Neal Street Productions and Vertigo Films, Britannia has been canceled despite building a loyal and engaged fan base.
The series featured The Walking Dead actor David Morrissey as General Aulus, a power-hungry military leader who spearheads the Roman invasion of Britannia. The first season was carried by Amazon Prime Video in the U.S., while Epix streamed Seasons 2 and 3.
Season 3 ended with Cait (Eleanor Worthington Cox) in Rome after being betrayed by her mentor, who has apparently wed General Aulus.
Britannia was created by Jez Butterworth, Tom Butterworth, and James Richardson.
Sky declined to comment.

More than 100 key figures from the UK film and TV industry have signed a letter urging the UK government to take “immediate action” against Iranian authorities for “gross violations of human rights and women’s rights” in their response to the wave of public protests that erupted last year.
The industry leaders, including Barbara Broccoli, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and Edgar Wright, are calling for the UK government to “actively campaign to stop the violence used against the protesters in Iran, including an immediate stop to all executions” and “demand the release of all political prisoners in Iran.”
“Enough is enough. If the global community, which the UK is an active and influential member of, does not act firmly, these atrocities will continue,” the letter reads. “We need to sincerely support the people of Iran in their fight for justice and freedom.”

A growing number of figures from the film and TV industry in the U.K. have signed a letter urging British politicians to support the people of Iran as the country faces global condemnation for executing several of those involved in the wave of protests that erupted last year.
The letter, instigated by British-Iranian filmmaker Babak Anvari, calls for members of U.K. parliament to actively campaign for Iran to stop violence against protesters and end all executions, to hold Iran accountable for the “gross violations of human rights and women’s rights,” and to demand that Iran releases all political prisoners.
Among the almost 100 names to have signed the letter, which is still circulating and gathering attention, are Olivia Colman, Martin McDonagh, Jessie Buckley, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Brett Goldstein, Jonathan Pryce, Hugh Bonneville, Richard Curtis, Gillian Anderson, Felicity Jones, George Mackay, Edgar Wright and Hayley Atwell.

"The Walking Dead" ended its 11th and last season with a bang. While three spinoffs are coming soon, including "Dead City," it was the final farewell to the flagship series. Throughout its run, diehard fans came to care deeply about its characters and were glued to their televisions, hooked into stories about survival and keeping humanity intact. Characters such as Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) made the show what it quickly became — a ratings juggernaut. It may not have reached the creative heights of "Breaking Bad" or "Game of Thrones," but it had immense heart. When a character was put on the chopping block, it was often a devastating, soul-rattling experience.
Across 11 seasons, there were plenty of deaths that broke millions of hearts. Whether you're talking about that Season 2 barn reveal, the emergency C-section, or that baseball bat scene in Season 7, the show relentlessly forced its audience to face death and perhaps question their mortality.
