A couple of months ago it was announced that Kevin Bacon's Tremors series was picked up by the SyFy Channel. Bacon is set to reprise his role of Valentine McKee in the series and Deadline recently reported that Vincenzo Natali (Hannibal, Cube, Splice) will be helming the pilot episode. We also have some new story details!
In the Tremors series "the killer Graboid worms that nearly destroyed Perfection, Nv, 25 years ago are back, and the town’s only hope for survival is Valentine McKee (Bacon), who beat them once. But to do it again he’ll have to overcome age, alcohol and a delusional hero complex."

Start looking for higher ground, because the pilot episode for the potential new Tremors series is digging closer to the surface. Following the announcement in June that Syfy had ordered a pilot episode of a new Tremors series from Universal Cable Productions and Blumhouse Television, it's now been revealed that Vincenzo Natali is lined up to direct.
Deadline reports the news about Natali's involvement, revealing that the filmmaker behind Cube, Splice, and Haunter has been "tapped to direct" the Tremors pilot episode starring Kevin Bacon, who will reprise his role as handyman-turned-hero Valentine “Val” McKee.
In addition to feature films, Natali has an impressive list of TV directorial credits to his name, having worked behind the camera on Darknet, Hemlock Grove, The Returned, Hannibal, Wayward Pines, Westworld, The Strain, and American Gods.

It’s time to head back to Twin Peaks, salute some major names (Gus Van Sant, James Cameron, Hal Ashby, Guillermo del Toro, Orson Welles), icons (James Dean), and (former) power players (Mike Ovitz). Plus, Harry Potter, Seinfeld, and McDonald’s! Let’s start with a loving look back at 50 years of the starship Enterprise.
Star Trek: 50 Artists 50 Years (Titan Books)
There have been a number of interesting books released to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Star Trek, but there’s no question that 50 Artists 50 Years is the handsomest. As the title makes clear, the premise is simple: 50 respected artists, all with wildly unique styles, were tasked with creating a work of art highlighting some element of the Trek universe. There’s plenty of original series — Glen Brogan’s jaunty representation of the bridge of the Enterprise is my personal favorite — and lots of Spock. Plus, Leonard Nimoy himself...

Late last year, news broke that Kevin Bacon was looking to return to Perfection as Valentine “Val” McKee in a new Tremors TV series. While we haven’t heard much about the series since then, Bacon recently spoke briefly with Collider about returning to the giant worm-ridden world of Tremors.
Speaking with Collider to promote the pilot episode of a new show, Bacon mentioned that the Tremors TV series is currently in development at Amazon and that they are awaiting a script draft from Andrew Miller, who is writing the project.
While four sequels and a short-lived Sci-Fi Channel series were released after the first film’s debut in 1990, Bacon is more focused on following the events of the original movie than those that followed it:
“They went and made a bunch of sequels to the movie. I want to put those aside because, first of all, I wasn’t in them.

Late last year came word that a new TV series was being developed based on the 1990 cult classic "Tremors" with Kevin Bacon reprising his role of monster hunter Valentine McKee.
Bacon is slated to both star in and executive produce the continuation of the franchise, and today revealed to Twitter that the project is still very much in development and is planned as a ten-episode mini-series:
"I would love to make another Tremors. In fact, we're working on a 10-episode miniseries for Tremors right now. I think it'd be great."
Blumhouse and Universal Cable Productions are producing the project while Andrew Miller ("The Secret Circle") is writing the script. The action will return to the fictional Nevada desert town of Perfection, where the first movie took place.

Kevin Bacon is primed to reprise a role that helped put him on the map more than two two decades, with The Hollywood Reporter bringing word that the actor is now on board for the long-rumored Tremors TV reboot.
Set to also executive produce the modern overhaul, Bacon will step into the dusty shoes of one Valentine McKee, who was last seen fending off waves of Graboids – monstrous sandworm creatures, that is – in a small Nevada town called Perfection. Indeed, the actor has been outspoken about his desire to return to the cult horror franchise before, after praising the 1990 original for its practical effects and use of puppetry.
At the time, the success of Tremors spawned a series of direct-to-dvd sequels, not to mention a TV series in the form of Tremors: The Series, though Bacon’s involvement in the franchise ended with the release of the first film.

Kevin Bacon has mentioned a few times recently that he'd be interested in reprising his role in Tremors in some capacity, and considering the relatively recent trend of turning movies into TV shows, it's not too surprising to read EW's report that says Bacon will be doing just that.
According to the report, Universal Cable Television and Blumhouse Productions have hired The Secret Circle writer Andrew Miller to write the script. Now that his Fox series The Following has been cancelled, Bacon will reprise his role as Valentine McKee from the original movie and executive produce the new show. They're currently shopping the idea around to various networks, but there's no word yet on where it might land.
There have been five total films in the Tremors franchise so far (most of them direct-to-video), but Bacon only appeared in the first and only theatrical entry, which hit theaters twenty-five years ago in 1990. Earlier this year,...

Valentine "Val" McKee is looking to return to Perfection, as it's been revealed that a Tremors TV series is in the works with Kevin Bacon attached to executive produce and reprise his role as Valentine McKee from the 1990 film that kicked off the beloved franchise.
EW reports the news of the Tremors TV series, stating that a small screen reboot based on Ron Underwood's original film is being developed by Universal Cable Productions and Jason Blum's Blumhouse Productions. Bacon is set to executive produce and once again star as handyman turned Graboid fighter Val McKee.
The TV series will take place in Perfection, Nevada, and Andrew Miller (Backstrom, The Secret Circle, Boys and Girls) has been lined up to pen the franchise's new entry.
Although Tremors spawned four sequels and a 2003 Sci-Fi Channel TV series, Bacon hasn't stepped into Val's boots since he acted in the first film over 25 years ago.

Universal Cable Productions ("Mr. Robot") and Blumhouse Productions (HBO's "The Jinx") are teaming for a TV series reboot of the 1990 cult classic creature feature "Tremors".
The big surprise though? Twenty-five years after he first played it, Kevin Bacon is attached to reprise his role as Valentine McKee in the series which he will also executive produce. Andrew Miller is on board to pen the adaptation which is expected to be once again set in the town of Perfection.
The original film dealt with a group of giant monster worm-like creatures that could track people following the vibration of sounds. It was essentially "Jaws" on land but with a more comedic tone and was successful enough to spawn numerous sequels and a short-lived cable series.
No network is attached yet, but multiple bidders are reportedly interested in the project. Also no word if Bacon's co-star Fred Ward will reprise his role of Earl Bass.

This year’s Blood List has named the 13 best genre scripts around town, and in its sixth year the annual screenplay contest is expanding its scope to include hot books, TV pilots, and young scribes ripe for signing. Taking top honors in 2014 is sci-fi thriller Bird Box from The Thing and Final Destination 5 scribe Eric Heisserer, an apocalyptic tale of a woman trying to lead her children to safety – all three blindfolded – after monsters descend on earth that turn people insane on sight. Universal set Heisserer to adapt the manuscript from Josh Malerman in 2013 for Mama helmer Andy Muschietti. Previous Blood List alumni include Black Swan, Stoker, Warm Bodies, and the upcoming Blumhouse thriller The Boy Next Door.
Like the Black List naming the top unproduced screenplays circulating around Hollywood, the genre-focused Blood List taps exec votes to determine each year’s best unmade horror, sci-fi, and thriller scripts.

The Young Girls of Rochefort
Written and directed by Jacques Demy
France, 1967
Jacques Demy’s The Young Girls of Rochefort is the Oscar-nominated follow-up to his immensely popular and successful The Umbrellas of Cherbourg (1964), which with all of its dialogue sung was something of a reinvention of the movie musical, an almost experiential musical. Young Girls, on the other hand, is simply a great musical. To be sure, Umbrellas is an excellent film as well (see my take on it here), but while it surely resonates with its tale of love unhappily ever after, and it radiates in attractive Eastmancolor, it’s in some ways hampered by its own novelty. There is of course more to it than merely the fact that everyone sings everything, but to many it’s probably best known as the movie where everyone sings everything. Young Girls is more traditional in that it has dialogue...

An official Winter Olympics countdown event was disrupted in New York City’s Times Square on Tuesday by gay rights activists protesting Russia’s anti-gay laws. At the 100 Day Countdown, U.S. hopefuls heard chants calling for the United States Olympic Committee to boycott the Games in Sochi. As the publicized media hour began, members of the activist group Queer Nation lined a crowd barrier and unfurled banners with the words “Don’t Buy Putin’s Lies!” and “Boycott Homophobia!” — and chanted while four athletes were interviewed on stage.

With head-spinning volume of broadcast development every year, it is inevitable that some projects fall through the cracks or don’t realize their full potential. It is encouraging that the networks appear more and more willing to give shows another chance. Several new series this coming season, including ABC’s The Goldbergs and Super Fun Night and CBS’ We Are Men, had been previously developed at the same or another network. And an unusually large number of pilots from last season were given a second lease on life with cast extensions. (One, CBS comedy The McCarthys, already received an order for a new pilot.) Here are two other projects from last season that are getting a second shot. Amblin TV is having one of its drama projects at ABC from last season, Saga, redeveloped at the network with a new writer. Chris Black has come on board to write the high-concept project,...

Danny Boyle has revealed that his next movie is likely to be a period drama.
The Trance director told Digital Spy that he is currently working on two historical films, which he hopes will be more "immediate" than traditional period fare.
> Danny Boyle interview uncut: 'Trance', Olympics, period drama
"All I can say is they won't be like Downton Abbey," he said. "It won't be that kind of period movie."
Boyle previously revealed in Amy Raphael's book Danny Boyle: In His Own Words that he was hoping to film an adaptation of Andrew Miller's novel Ingenious Pain based on a script from Patrick Marber.
Ingenious Pain takes place in 18th-century England and Russia and centres on James Dyer, a surgeon who is impervious to physical pain.
Boyle also spoke of his fondness for Apocalypse Now, adding that he could potentially tackle a war film in the future.

The 2000 Leonardo DiCaprio film "The Beach" may be considered one of the lesser entries in Danny Boyle's filmography, but does it have the makings of a decent television show? Fox seems to think so -- Deadline is reporting that the network has signed on to develop a TV series based on the movie and the 1996 book written by Alex Garland from which it was adapted (Garland also scripted Boyle's 2007 sci-fi drama "Sunshine"). The TV adaptation of "The Beach" is being written by Andrew Miller, who developed, wrote the pilot for and co-ran the CW witch series "The Secret Circle." According to Deadline, Miller describes the new project as "about a group of young people feeling disconnected and disenchanted from society who try to start over in paradise but discover that while creating the perfect world is hard, protecting it is even harder." In theory, a TV take on "The Beach...

Continuing the recent trend of transforming middling films into primetime series—sort of like the TV equivalent of using all the parts of a rotting buffalo—Fox is now developing a small-screen adaptation of The Beach, Alex Garland's 1996 novel that Danny Boyle previously turned into a 2000 film in which Leonardo DiCaprio took his shirt off a lot. That no one beyond DiCaprio's Titanic fanbase much cared for the film doesn't particularly matter, it seems. Fox has hired The Secret Circle writer Andrew Miller to draft a new, weekly series take on its premise of a ...

20th Century Fox TV is planning a dramatic television series based on Alex Garland's 1996 novel "The Beach" reports Deadline.
Garland's book, described as a Generation X take on "Lord of the Flies", follows a young traveller in Bangkok who encounters a strange Scotsman who tells him of a supposedly hidden beach located on an island in the Gulf of Thailand that is inaccessible to tourists.
Together with a young and beautiful French couple, they find the beach where a self-sufficient community has developed and almost completely shut itself off from civilization.
Andrew Miller, who co-ran The CW's cancelled "The Secret Circle", is penning the series adaptation. Danny Boyle helmed the film adaptation of the book in 2000 which starred Leonardo Di Caprio, Tilda Swinton and Guillaume Canet.

Secret Circle season 2 spoilers revealed, but renewal is still up in the air. According to a new report from Spoiler TV,one of their sources talked with Secret Circle showrunner Andrew Miller this past Wednesday night,May 9th,and he said that CW currently is still deciding on whether they want to renew Secret Circle for a season 2 or not. However, Andrew did speak with Entertainment Weekly, and dropped some small spoiler teasers for the new season if it does get renewed. He told them, there's plenty more story to tell, and that the finale opened up a whole new storyline. Also, there are some characters who could get a little more screen time next season if the show is renewed. Character Melissa could mix things up in the increasingly mopey love triangle between Cassie, Adam, and Diana. Charles could see more screentime after getting drowned out by the big John Blackwell storyline.

"The Secret Circle" shocked fans last fall by killing off a main character and fan favorite from the source novels, Nick. At the time, Louis Hunter told us that he'd be up for returning to the Circle if the story called for it. "I think that the show being what it is, it could be really organic, and I really loved working with every single person that I worked with up in Vancouver," he said, "So if I got the chance to be on the show again, I wouldn't hesitate at all."
Within the Circle, Nick was replaced by his witch-hunter older brother, Jake (Chris Zylka). Zylka often laments the fact that viewers never got to see Nick and Jake together as brothers, so he was thrilled when executive producer Andrew Miller told the cast that Hunter would be returning as the famed traitor witch, back from the dead with a vengeance.

"Secret Circle" fans, you're in for a treat. John Blackwell isn't the only fallen witch returning from the dead before the end of the first season.
Zap2it has exclusively confirmed that Nick (Louis Hunter), who was killed in a surprise twist in the fifth episode back in the fall, is coming back to Chance Harbor! Of course, he's not quite the same bad boy with the heart of gold who we mourned last year. Death by drowning, apparently, can change a guy.
"We are thrilled to have Nick back, but he's not the same person as he was before," executive producer Andrew Miller tells us. "The Circle is stunned, but those closest to Nick, his brother Jake and girlfriend Melissa, find themselves on opposite sides as they struggle with how to deal with his unnatural return."

Hey, "Secret Circle" fans -- remember how just a few weeks ago, Cassie was trying to kill Adam with her brain?
Well, he got over it. As we saw in last week's episode, Cassie and Adam finally did the deed... which happened to activate an old family curse. It also murdered a whole bunch of birds.
It's got to be pretty awkward to find out that a bunch of old witches really didn't want you to have sex with the cute waiter boy... and it's even more awkward when you're forced to tell all of your friends about it. Exes, former crushes, and all.
In this clip from Thursday's new episode, Faye delights in the uncomfortable moment -- while Diana looks a little queasy. Meanwhile, the curse's actual target -- Jake -- is missing in action.
We'll also see Cassie forced to have the sex talk with her recently-resurrected father,...
