Netflix’s upcoming limited series “Painkiller” is lifting the veil on America’s opioid crisis, investigating the role of one family in making OxyContin “the No. 1 opioid in the country.”
“All of human behavior is essentially comprised of two things: run from pain, run toward pleasure; pain, pleasure,” Matthew Broderick’s Richard Sackler said in the series’ official trailer. “If we place ourselves right there between pain and pleasure, we will never have to worry about money again.”
As the Sackler dynasty’s Purdue Pharma recruits a batch of fresh-faced sales workers who they claim will convince doctors to “take pain seriously,” an investor from the U.S. attorneys office (Uzo Aduba) is determined to take the family responsible for countless deaths down.
“You lie, you hurt people, you go down,” Aduba said. “They are doing the exact same thing as crack dealers but they are getting rewarded it.”

Gary hears little chirps from his cubicle, and occasionally catches a glimpse of what his boss really looks like. Because this is "The X-Files," the audience can't be sure whether Gary is hallucinating, or if the insect really is a supernatural being of some kind. A Million Little Things left us wondering all summer exactly what Gary (James Roday Rodriguez) did to Peter (Andrew Leeds), Sophie’s (Lizzy Greene) music teacher who assaulted her, after dragging him into his house. TV Insider’s exclusive sneak peek of the Season 4 premiere, “Family First,” reveals a few details. When Brookline Pd’s Detective Saunders (Brian Markinson), whom Sophie had spoken to about the assault (though there was not enough evidence for an arrest), calls her, she’s surprised to hear from him. “I just wanted to follow up with you about yesterday. I know your mom told you that we don’t have enough evidence to file charges. That must have been really upsetting for you to hear,” he explains. It is, Sophie confirms, and while she understands, it’s “still not fair.” “The other reason I’m calling is because I wanted you to hear this...

Sophia Bush's Surveillance is not moving forward at CBS.
The pilot was apparently a hit in early testing, according to Variety, but it was apparently not a good fit for the Eye network.
The proposed series would have centered on the head of communications for the Nsa, a charming operative who finds her loyalties torn between protecting the government’s secrets and her own.
In addition to Bush, the pilot's cast included Allen Leech, Dennis Haysbert, Raphael Acloque, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Matthew Modine, Nick Blood, Spencer Moss, Tina Huang, Judith Scott, Brian Markinson, and Catherine Curtin.

David C. White, who wrote the pilot, confirmed the sad news on Twitter over the weekend.
“Super bummed Surveillance won’t be going forward, but what an incredible experience it has been working with all of these amazing people,” he wrote.

The lack of unified quests that we worried about in last week’s episode of The Magicians takes a step in the right direction in “The Serpent.” In addition to an intriguing twist in the hedge witch storyline, the rescue of Harriet gave us some wonderful insights into Alice’s character, and there were moments in Fillory that likely left few dry eyes in the audience. And of course, the mission to recover the Monster’s missing parts took a surprising turn and upped the ante in ways that we have yet to fully comprehend. Those predisposed to emotional manipulation by dogs at play and in peril will be easily swayed by director Charles Martin Smith’s “A Dog’s Way Home.” Based on the bestselling novel by W. Bruce Cameron, this story about a lost dog attempting a 400-mile journey home takes us on an emotional roller coaster, most of it with a lump in our throats. However, for every shameless trick the filmmakers employ to pluck our heartstrings, resonant chords are struck elsewhere, teaching audiences about family, the power of unconditional love, and the ripple effects of compassion. In the pantheon of puppy pictures, this doesn’t rank as top dog, but it’s certainly not the runt of the litter either.

A24 has debuted the first official trailer for a true story political drama titled Backstabbing for Beginners, from Danish director Per Fly. The film is about a young, idealistic program coordinator at the United Nations, as played by Theo James (from the Divergent series), who stumbles upon a conspiracy involving Iraq's oil reserves. Ben Kingsley stars as his boss, and the cast includes Jacqueline Bisset, Christina Dupre, Rossif Sutherland, Belçim Bilgin, Rachel Wilson, and Brian Markinson. This looks like a very compelling political thriller about a kid just trying to do what's right. And, as A24 says in their email, it's a very "timely" film for us to watch these days. Last season saw the ratings for the Continuum TV show drop nearly 30% when compared to the second season's Syfy numbers. It's been decided that the shortened fourth season will be the series' last. Will it go out with high or low ratings? Will execs wish there was fifth season or regret that it didn't end sooner? Stay tuned.
Continuum revolves around a female police officer (Rachel Nichols) from the future who gets caught up in a conflict that spans between 2012 and 2077. The cast also includes Victor Webster, Erik Knudsen, Roger Cross, Stephen Lobo, Lexa Doig, Omari Newton, Luvia Petersen, Brian Markinson, Jennifer Spence, and Richard Harmon.

Fans of Syfy's Continuum have been waiting to find out the fate of the series. The show hasn't been renewed yet -- but it hasn't been cancelled either.
Continuum revolves around a female police officer (Rachel Nichols) from the year 2077 who ends up being transported back to 2012 with a group of rebels. The cast also includes Victor Webster, Erik Knudsen, Stephen Lobo, Roger Cross, Lexa Doig, Tony Amendola, Omari Newton, Luvia Petersen, Jennifer Spence, and Brian Markinson.
The show's official Twitter feed recently announced that series creator Simon Davis Barry would be doing a Reddit Ama (Ask Me Anything) in the near future -- "as a thank you" to the fans.
A follower asked if this "thank you" was meant as a goodbye to the series. The response was "Hell no! ;)".

Once again, dear readers, I have to begin a column by apologizing for an unplanned absence. I’ve been very busy with work and family stuff lately, and I didn’t have the time to deliver the quality columns you’ve come to expect and deserve. But on a much happier note, this week’s much-delayed edition of Trailer Trashin’ takes another look at my most anticipated film of the year, Godzilla.
Premise: An epic rebirth of Toho’s iconic Godzilla, this spectacular adventure pits the world’s most famous monster against malevolent creatures who, bolstered by humanity’s scientific arrogance, threaten our very existence.
My take: As I’ve previously stated in this column, I’ve been a huge Godzilla fan since I was a kid. After the debacle that was the 1998 Roland Emmerich film, I had resigned myself to believing that I’d never get to see a...

Sorry, what's that? Nope, still can't hear you. The sound of angels singing is far too loud. In what is probably the best damned news of the day (or week), Godzilla director Gareth Edwards recently discussed which direction he'd like to go in for the inevitable sequel.
“With the exception of the 1954 original, I would say my second favorite film is Destroy All Monsters,” Edwards tells Screen Rant. “I just love the idea of a monster island. Having a world with these creatures in it. I find that fascinating and would like to treat that realistically. I wouldn’t want to limit it to one other foe; I think it’s more fun to – this question will come back to haunt me if we ever do a sequel – but I think multiple creatures make better movies in terms of the image of Gojira."
