Exclusive: The Renny Harlin action thriller The Bricklayer, starring Aaron Eckhart (The Dark Knight) and Nina Dobrev (The Vampire Diaries), has been picked up by Vertical for a day-and-date release in the U.S. early next year.
An adaptation of the same-name novel by former FBI agent Paul Lindsay — who used the pen name Noah Boyd — the film also stars Clifton Collins Jr. (Westworld), Tim Blake Nelson (The Ballad of Buster Scruggs), and Ilfenesh Hadera (Billions). The story is that of a rogue insurgent blackmailing the CIA by assassinating foreign journalists and making it appear the agency is responsible. As other nations begin turning against the U.S., the CIA must lure Steve Vail (Eckhart) — their most brilliant and rebellious operative — out of retirement. With an elite and deadly skill set, Vail is tasked with helping clear the agency’s name, forcing him to confront his checkered past while unraveling an international conspiracy.

Ryan Reynolds & Samuel L. Jackson Sequel ‘The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard’ Moves Earlier In The Summer
After Disney plopped its Ryan Reynolds action comedy Free Guy from 20th Century Studios on August 13, a week before Lionsgate’s sequel The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard which also stars Reynolds, it stood to reason the latter would move. The new date for the Reynolds-Samuel L. Jackson sequel, which also stars Salma Hayek, is June 16.
The announcement was made Monday by Ron Schwartz, Lionsgate’s president of worldwide distribution. The sequel, on its new date, arrives the weekend after Warner Bros/HBO Max’s feature musical In the Heights, and the weekend prior to Universal’s F9 on June 25. Also opening the weekend of June 16-18 is Focus Features’ Edgar Wright-directed feature documentary The Sparks Brothers.
Schwartz said, “This is the kind of summer action film that delivers even more comedy and more thrilling action than the first film – and it’s perfect for fans new to the franchise as well.

J.K. Simmons, Johnny Simmons (no relation), Brittany Snow and Jane Lynch are set to star in Kevin Pollak's comedy "The Late Bloomer" for Eclectic Pictures and Ineffable Pictures. Filming has begun in Los Angeles ahead of a shift to Bulgaria.
Based on Ken Baker's 2001 memoir "Man Made," the story follows the E! news correspondent's experience of going through puberty for the first time at age thirty after having a pituitary tumor removed.
The benign tumor rested against his pituitary gland and delayed his puberty and normal development. Though the tumor's removal restored him to hormonally normal masculinity, it resulted in him having to experience all the effects of puberty over an extremely condensed three-week period.
Johnny Simmons portrays the lead who works as a sex therapist in an office headed by Lynch's character. Snow portrays the girl next door, while J.K. Simmons and Bello play his suffocating parents.

Out of the two dueling White House takeover pics that vied for box office dominance in 2013, it’s safe to say that Olympus Has Fallen emerged victorious against White House Down (though there are some, myself included, who feel that the latter film was far superior). While White House Down disappointed at the box office, Olympus Has Fallen made more on a smaller budget and certainly did well enough to warrant a sequel, which kicked off production in London today.
Rather obviously titled London Has Fallen, the follow-up reunites stars Aaron Eckhart, Gerard Butler, Morgan Freeman, Angela Bassett and Melissa Leo. This time around, Secret Service agent Mike Banning (Butler) and President of the United States Benjamin Asher (Eckhart) find themselves battling a terrorist threat in London.
Check out the official press release, which includes an updated synopsis for the pic. Then let us know, will you be lining up...

Ukrainian feature wins Grand Prix at ‘Zerkalo’ Andrey Tarkovsky International Film Festival.
Ukrainian director Miroslav Slaboshpitzky’s The Tribe (Plemya) was the winner of this year’s ¨Zerkalo¨ Andrey Tarkovsky International Film Festival (June 10-15).
The film, which follows a deaf mute boy’s attempts to fit into the boarding school system, won three prizes at the Critics’ Week in Cannes when it premiered there last month.
Named after Tarkovsky’s 1975 film Mirror (Zerkalo), the festival is programmed by the Russian film critic Andrey Plakhov in Tarkovsky’s birthplace of Ivanovo.
This year’s eighth edition had ‘women in cinema’ as its all-embracing theme.
Thus, the feature film jury consisted only of women, including Kinotavr’s programme director Sitora Alieva, veteran Portuguese actress Isabella Ruth, Us actress-producer Heidi Jo Markel, and Slovak film-maker Mira Fornay whose My Dog Killer screened in Ivanovo last year.

A New York federal Judge ruled in favour of Lovelace filmmakers and distributor RADiUS-twc.
Judge Thomas Griesa rejected a $10m claim filed on Monday by Arrow Productions that sought to block the film’s Aug 9 release on the basis that Lovelace contains more than five minutes of footage from Arrow’s seminal 1972 release Deep Throat that was used without permission.
The plaintiff had also sought judgment for use of the title Lovelace, which they claim was borrowed from their trademarked name Linda Lovelace without licence or permission.
However the Us District Court judge dismissed the plaintiff’s claims, finding in favour of Millennium Films, Nu Image, Animus Films, Untitled Entertainment, Eclectic Pictures, Avi Lerner, Laura Rister and RADiUS-twc.
“We are relieved that common sense prevailed,” said Millennium Films president Mark Gill. “The suit was completely unwarranted. We believe this case was an insult to the legal safeguards in place maintaining our right to freedom of speech. It was...

Put this on your To Do list — Lovelace, the Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman directed biopic about the star of Deep Throat opens next Friday August 9th in limited U.S. release as well as on Video on Demand and iTunes.
The film premiered at Sundance back in January to positive reviews (particularly for Amanda Seyfried’s performance) and this past week had its New York premiere. Kate Hudson was originally in talks to play Lovelace (with James Franco as her abusive husband, Chuck Traynor) but a pregnant Hudson dropped out and Seyfried came on board along with Peter Saarsgard (as Traynor) and Sharon Stone as Lovelace’s mother Dorothy.

When terrorists take down the White House (code name “Olympus”), a disgraced Secret Service agent attempts to rescue the president of the United States in Olympus Has Fallen, an electrifying and inspired action thriller from acclaimed director Antoine Fuqua (Training Day).
A small group of heavily armed, meticulously trained extremists launch a daring daylight ambush on the White House, overrunning the building and taking President Benjamin Asher (Aaron Eckhart) and his staff hostage inside an impenetrable underground presidential bunker. As a pitched battle rages on the White House lawn, former presidential security officer Mike Banning (Gerard Butler) joins the fray, and finds his way into the besieged building to do the job he has trained for all his life: to protect the president – at all costs.
Banning uses his extensive training and detailed knowledge of the presidential residence to become the eyes and ears of Acting President Allan Trumbull (Morgan Freeman) and his key advisors.
