Snowpiercer’s final season will see the light of day after all.
AMC has picked up rights to all four seasons of the post-apocalyptic drama — including the completed but never aired fourth season. The series first aired on TNT, but the Warner Bros. Discovery network canceled the show in January 2023 as it and sister channels TBS and TruTV left the scripted business.
The first three seasons of Snowpiercer will begin streaming on AMC+ later this year, with the final season set to premiere on both AMC and AMC+ in early 2025.
“Snowpiercer is an edge-of-your-seat thrill ride with a loyal fanbase — similar to the passionate fandoms we serve across our biggest franchise series — and a welcome addition to AMC and AMC+,” said Ben Davis, executive vp original programming at AMC Networks and AMC Studios. “We look forward to giving viewers an opportunity to binge the first three seasons later this year,...

I’m thirty-plus entries into Revenge of the Remakes and have finally reached an original/remake pair where neither is American. Vincenzo Natali’s Cube (1997) is a maple-scented product of Canada’s independent filmmaking scene, while Yasuhiko Shimizu’s 2021 remake hails from Japan. You’re free of rants about stale Americanizations and Hollywood’s sometimes shortsighted approach to horror remakes. Welcome to a wholly international edition of my column that’s, in comparison, outside the box. I’m honestly surprised Japan beat us to a Cube remake in a post-Platinum Dunes world — although Bloody Disgusting’s Brad Miska reported Lionsgate was taking new Cube pitches as of May 2022. Don’t be surprised if a domestic project surfaces soon.
It’s a tale of two geometrical prisons influenced by cultural horror norms. Natali aligns with genre-bending Canadian minds like David Cronenberg, whereas Shimizu leans toward more operatic and soapy Japanese storytelling.

TNT‘s series adaptation of Bong Joon Ho’s “Snowpiercer” (which was based on the French graphic novel Le Transperceneige by Jacques Lob) kicked off back in 2020, with three seasons aired between 2020 and 2022. The show’s fourth season has been filmed, but in a strange twist of fate we’ve learned this week that it won’t actually be airing on TNT at all.
Deadline reports, “Snowpiercer, the only remaining original scripted series on TNT, is done on the Warner Bros. Discovery network. The post-apocalyptic drama’s completed fourth and final season will not run on the basic cable network as previously announced. The move is believed to be part of the tax write-offs for content at Wbd.”
“I hear the studio behind it, Tomorrow Studios, is currently shopping the new season, along with potential prequel and sequel, with the goal to build a franchise,” Deadline adds.

Snowpiercer has officially left the TNT track, and the future is unknown for the post-apocalyptic adventure that pitted class against class and married Science to Faith.
While fans expected to see one more season, a spokesperson for TNT announced today that it will not air on the network, a decision reportedly made late last year.
The fourth and final season had already completed filming and post-production. If you watch Snowpiercer online, you'll be happy to learn production company Tomorrow Studios has begun shopping it to other networks where possible spin-off series can also find a home.

Production on TNT’s “Snowpiercer” has been stopped due to safety concerns involving extremely high temperatures on set (via Deadline). The series was filming in British Columbia, where temperatures frequently reached the mid-90s. Multiple cast and crew members experienced cases of heat exhaustion, and 14 people were reportedly taken to the local hospital for treatment. Soon after, producers made the decision to suspend filming until temperatures became more manageable.
“Out of an abundance of caution, production of ‘Snowpiercer’ wrapped early yesterday and was suspended for today due to extreme heat on location,” said a spokesperson for Tomorrow Studios, which produces the show. “The health and well-being of show cast and crew remains top priority.”
Many were quick to point out the irony of a show about people affected by extreme climate change being shut down over extreme climate change. “Snowpiercer” takes place in a future Ice Age, and the heavy...

“Snowpiercer,” TNT’s TV adaptation of Bong Joon Ho’s 2013 sci-fi climate catastrophe film of the same name, has halted production on its fourth and final season following extreme temperatures in Vancouver, Canada and the hospitalization of some crew members in the effort of being “extra cautious.”

The post-apocalyptic journey of the Snowpiercer, the last ark of humanity, will come to a close with its fourth and final season.
As a massive breakout hit, it grew from its roots as an extreme examination of class warfare into a character-driven, emotionally wrought, and intellectually challenging study of social governance in a world where hope survives through will alone.
Anchored by stars Daveed Diggs and Jennifer Connelly, the cast has blossomed over the past three seasons into a multi-faceted and fascinating ensemble where the bells of redemption and comeuppance have rung for many.
A spokesperson for the network announced the news on Friday.

The new “Orphan Black” series in the works at AMC has found its writer.
Variety has learned exclusively that Anna Fishko is onboard to write and executive produce the potential new iteration of the series, which was first reported as being in the works back in 2019. A writers’ room for the project is now open, though exact plot details remain under wraps.
It is known, however, that the project is not a reboot of the original show, but rather a new story set in the same world. Boat Rocker Studios, a division of Boat Rocker Media, will produce.
Fishko is no stranger to working with AMC, having been a writer and supervising producer on “Fear the Walking Dead” for the basic cabler during the show’s fourth season in 2018.
Most recently, she worked as a writer and co-executive producer on the Netflix series “The Society,” which had been renewed for...

This Snowpiercer review contains spoilers.
Snowpiercer Season 3 Episode 1
One of the strongest features of Snowpiercer is the show’s ability to figure out ways to create claustrophobia. Granted, that’s easy on a train; it’s not exactly the sort of environment in which you can spread out and social distance from your neighbors. On the last train, however, that situation is even more dire, especially if you’re in third class or stuck in the tail. The people on board Snowpiercer toil away elbow to elbow with their fellows, making clothes, breaking up ice, cooking and growing food, even entertaining in the club car. There’s not a space to be alone, unless you’re the leader of the anti-Wilford resistance, and that means you’re alone in a room the size and temperature of a meat locker.

With the help of Javier (Roberto Urbina) and Alexandra (Rowan Blanchard), Layton and Ruth made it back to the train and rallied with their supporters. Josie (Katie McGuiness) destroyed the Aquarium car, separating Snowpiercer’s head from the remaining 1,023 cars. Season 3 picks up with Layton and his inner circle commanding a small 10-car “pirate train” in search of Melanie (Jennifer Connelly) and a possible warm location to restart civilization. Meanwhile,...

The Ice Age continues but hope springs eternal, and our Arc of Humanity continues to roll along at TNT.
TNT's Snowpiercer had a rocky departure out of the station, plagued by numerous production changes and network pivots back in 2017 before finally premiering in 2020.
However, since then, it has garnered accolades and audience numbers for its exciting twists, deep character development, and incredible world-building.
Filming has just wrapped in Vancouver on Season 3 and, with it, the announcement that it has already been renewed for Season 4.
“Snowpiercer has been an incredibly successful series for us that continues to capture the imagination of viewers, grow audience and maintain strong ratings,” said Sam Linsky and Adrienne O’Riain, co-heads of scripted original programming for TBS, TNT, and truTV.

TNT’s postapocalyptic sci-fi drama Snowpiercer has extended its streak of early renewals with a Season 4 pickup.
All have come ahead of the premiere the previous season; Season 4 marks the earliest renewal, which is done as Season 3 wraps up filming. (I hear the pickup decision was quietly made last month but made official now.) Star Daveed Diggs made the renewal announcement on the set of the show at the tail end of production — you can see it below.
Produced by Tomorrow Studios, Snowpiercer Seasons 1 and 2 are available on the TNT app, with Season 3 set to premiere on TNT early next year. With Animal Kingdom and Claws coming to an end, Snowpiercer is the only remaining ongoing scripted series on the Turner network.
Snowpiercer premiered as the No 1 new scripted drama on all of ad-supported cable in 2020. The second season reached 21 million viewers across linear and digital in L+7 viewing, ranking as a Top 5 cable drama.

This Snowpiercer review contains spoilers.
Snowpiercer Season 2 Episode 10
For the fifth time in the history of the show, the titular train of Snowpiercer finds itself under new ownership. Wilford built the thing, and then Melanie (Jennifer Connelly) stole it. She ran it successfully for 7 years, until it was taken over by Layton (Daveed Diggs). Layton’s tenure was not nearly as successful, because a returning Mr. Wilford (Sean Bean) hooked up to the tail end of Snowpiercer and took the thing back over, sending Layton and Ruth (Alison Wright) to the compost heap for their troubles. Nevertheless, where there’s a will, there’s a way, and the one thing you can say about Andre Layton is that he doesn’t give up very easily, and he is very willing to get his poop-covered hands even dirtier during violence. And much like last time, he has help up train, and more of it.

Snowpiercer fans can get an early look at the season two finale two days before its air date.
TNT will drop the first hour of the two-hour season 2 finale early on Saturday, March 27, ahead of the finale’s full airing on Monday, March 29 at p.m. Et/Pt. In this episode, Wilford (Sean Bean) presses forward on his endgame, as Layton (Daveed Diggs) sinks to new lows.
However, even with early access, viewers will have to wait until Monday, March 29 to catch the second half of the finale.
Season two highlights an entirely new power struggle that causes a dangerous rift as people are divided between their loyalty to Layton and Wilford, who has a new train, tech and game plan. While Layton and Wilford battle for control of Snowpiercer, Jennifer Connelly’s Melanie leads the charge on a new discovery that could change the fate of humanity. Aleks Paunovic stands out in a crowd in many ways. At 6'5" tall, he quite literally towers over most people, but, honestly, it's his incredibly friendly and enthusiastic demeanor that is most memorable.
He is one busy guy and has been for quite a while. The odds are excellent that you've seen him on both small and big screens in his roles on TV shows like Van Helsing, iZombie, and Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency, as well as films like War for the Planet of the Apes, Numb, and Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters.
Even just talking over the phone, it's hard not to get swept up in his passionate approach to the various projects he's working on and dreaming about.
Most recently, he's been winning (and breaking) hearts as Breachman Bojan "Boki" Boscovic aboard TNT's hit show, Snowpiercer. With the Snowpiercer Season 2 finale nearing and Season 3 filming already on the way,...

TNT's Snowpiercer Season 2 has been all sorts of crazy, creepy, and cryptic.
From Wilford's return to the unknown goings-on aboard Big Alice to the genuine possibility that the Earth is warming again, it's been a rollercoaster filled with reversals, sudden drops, and dangerous turns.
This was also a season disrupted in real life by the Covid-19 pandemic when a lockdown order shut down production with less than ten days left to shoot, as showrunner Graeme Manson informed us back in July 2020.
But through everything that has happened before and since, an abiding presence has been the Tailie-made-good, Pike, played to opportunistic perfection by Canadian-by-birth, Los Angeleno-by-choice, Steven Ogg.
Ogg recently made the journey up from Los Angeles by car with his dog and was immediately faced with a fourteen-day quarantine before he could get down to work.
So how terrible was the quarantine?

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not yet watched the sixth episode of “Snowpiercer” Season 2.
During the first season of TNT’s “Snowpiercer,” Jennifer Connelly spent her days of production crammed on-set with dozens of other performers, all representing the passengers of the titular train, then 1,000 cars long and hurtling around the globe to keep themselves alive amid a climate disaster. The second season, however, sees her much more isolated, as she has ventured out into the snowy tundra to investigate what is happening with the world and with the train, which has now been combined with another to become 1,034 cars long.
The sixth episode of the second season, specifically, provided the Oscar winner with not only a “different rhythm of shooting,” but also a more “authentic” version of the character, she tells Variety.

Keeping in mind that Ten Months elapsed between shooting the finale and the beginning of production for this season's premiere, Snowpiercer Season 2 Episode 1 does an over-the-top incredible job with creating continuity between the narratives, literally picking up where they left off.
The finale's three shockers -- Mr. Wilford, Alexandra Cavill, and Big Alice -- gave the premiere a pile of exposition to play with.
And yet, the tension never lets up. Pike's shenanigans might have lightened the mood at times, but I was constantly leaning in, anticipating the next reveal or twist.
Big Alice and everything (and everyone) she carries aboard opens up a whole new world of possibilities for this post-apocalyptic adventure. And Sean Bean is guaranteed to make things interesting.
I'm also a fan of the visual throwbacks to the graphic novel origins they use to bookend the seasons. It's a device that enriches the story-telling aspect of the show,...

“Snowpiercer” Season 2 is set to premiere Monday, Jan. 25 on TNT, the network announced during a panel for the show at New York Comic-Con on Thursday.
A new trailer released during the panel introduces new cast member Sean Bean as Mr. Wilford, who has come to restore order on his world-spanning train in the wake of Season 1’s revolution.
The new premiere date comes just a few months after the first season wrapped its 10-episode run back in July. The long-delayed series was picked up for a second season before the first hit the air earlier this year and had begun filming before the coronavirus pandemic caused production to shut down.
In addition to Bean, the second season will also see “Girl Meets World” alum Rowan Blanchard join the series as a new cast member, starring alongside Jennifer Connelly and Daveed Diggs. Here is the full description for Season 2:

Today at New York Comic Con, TNT announced that Snowpiercer will return for its second season on January 25th, with Sean Bean and Rowan Blanchard joining the main cast.
Based on a 2013 film by Oscar winner Bong Joon-ho, Snowpiercer is set on an enormous train of the same name, which perpetually circles the globe, following an event that turned the world into a frozen wasteland. Addressing such timely topics as class warfare and social injustice, the post-apocalyptic, sci-fi thriller charts the journey of those few humans left alive, as they engage in a revolutionary struggle aboard the train.
In Season 2, Bean takes on the role of Mr. Wilford, the visionary behind Snowpiercer, who rigidly divided the train’s sections by social class, provoking a war with passengers, including Melanie Cavill (Jennifer Connelly) and Andre Layton (Daveed Diggs). First appearing in Snowpiercer’s Season 1 finale, Blanchard plays Melanie’s daughter Alexandra,...

In 2018, Graeme Manson, the man who brought to life BBC America's Orphan Black, faced the daunting task of assuming the reins of TNT's production of Snowpiercer, a series optioned in 2015 and ordered to pilot a year later.
A pilot had already been shot, but Manson's vision took the story of the thousand-and-one-car-long train -- the last ark of humankind in a world deep in an Ice Age caused by scientists trying to reverse climate change -- down a different track from that which had been laid out originally.
The result was a tightly woven narrative and a hugely exciting roller-coaster of a season that managed to solve a mystery, overthrow a regime, and uncover the real damage carried by these last remnants of humanity as they circumnavigate the globe in an attempt to outlast the apocalypse.
