Sure, Superman’s native home planet is going to (Spoiler Alert!) go boom at the end, but if the casting breakdowns for Syfy’s recently greenlit Krypton pilot are any indication, there was some serious drama playing out in the decades prior.

Are sunny days in store for fans of the Days of Our Lives TV series? In an exclusive with soap reporter Michael Maloney, for TV Line, NBC Entertainment Chair, Robert Greenblatt, says negotiations to renew NBC's last surviving soap opera are set for February. The daytime drama is currently in its 51st broadcast season.
Days of Our Lives premiered on NBC, November 8, 1965. The soap marked its 50th anniversary with a bicentennial celebration of the show's fictional Midwestern town setting, Salem USA. Today was a busy day for some of the smaller guilds with the Visual Effects Society, the Cinema Audio Society, and the Makeup and Hairstylists Guilds all announcing their nominations for 2013.
First, we have the Ves, whose main category to look at is “Outstanding Visual Effects in a Visual Effects-Driven Feature Motion Picture,” where we find Gravity and four other nominees that are just going to have to be happy with the fact that they got nominated. This is perhaps the easiest category to call in the entirety of awards season, and I don’t mean just here, but for the Oscar as well (Last year’s winner, Life of Pi, easily took this category before going on to claim the Oscar). It’s true that films like The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug and Star Trek Into Darkness had outstanding effects as well, but nothing even came close to the amazing,...

It's a rough life, isnt it? Even with all the technology and aids to daily living (and in some cases, because of them), the majority of us lead quite stressful, rushed lives, with tons of responsibilities heaped on shoulders that haven't evolved fast enough to handle the load.
We may not have to pursue our own meals any more, but chasing trains, hunting for jobs and battling bills and budgets are just as taxing on the wellbeing of the modern man and woman, and takes its toll on minds and bodies.
The medical profession and proper care has its place, but what about the more now age (not to be confused with new age) resources we have available to...

Fewer soaps, fewer awards?
At the very least, the Natl. Academy of Television Arts & Sciences could explore having fewer candidates in some of the soap categories say Michael Maloney in a new article for Variety. While five has been the standard number of noms in each acting category, some feel that number should be lower because the genre has dropped three serials in recent years.
"They do need to change," says Peter Bergman, a three-time Daytime Emmy lead actor winner for his role on The Young And The Restless as Jack Abbott. "You can't have five (nominees) with only six shows. If you do, you may as well throw one from every show in."
"I don't think there should be younger actor or actress categories," says Christian Jules LeBlanc.

The prognosis is looking grim for the Chief’s ailing wife on Grey’s Anatomy.
Loretta Divine confirmed to TVLine at Sunday’s Night of 100 Stars Oscar party that viewers will be seeing a lot more of Adele as the season progresses, all but confirming that the character’s recent memory issues will turn out to be early-onset Alzheimer’s.
“I’m booked for about five episodes,” she confirmed. “Adele and Richard are going through a real crisis.”
Of course, said crisis is further complicated by the fact that the Chief’s ex-lover (and Meredith’s mother) also battled Alzheimer’s.

Kenneth Branagh’s Hamlet is nothing if not an accomplishment; it was designed to be that if nothing else. One could only look at The Passion of the Christ to find such a vainglorious act of hubris in the last decade, both in terms of bridging the space between the western canon and popular culture and managing to preserve the text’s original language (this is the only Hamlet adaptation to keep the text entirely intact). It is remarkable that Branagh succeeds to the extent that he does, but in his success, he reveals the limitations of his very goal. Of his stated desire to bring Hamlet to the screen, Branagh has done exactly what he set out to do, and he does it well. Of his larger goal of creating a film language that effectively mimics that of the stage, he has revealed more about the differences between the...

-- The pilot to 'The Event' was screened earlier today, to enthusiastic response from the crowd. According to our Michael Maloney, the reaction was that the show was like "'24' meets 'Lost.'" The producers said that a lot of questions will be answered in the second episode, and that "we know where we're going" with the show (perhaps a dig at the early seasons of 'Lost?').
