Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt, who is the executive producer for the crime drama series ‘Poachers’ has shared an awareness video about poaching, saying that “murder is murder.”
Written, created, and directed by Richie Mehta, ‘Poacher’ stars Nimisha Sajayan, Roshan Mathew, and Dibyendu Bhattacharya, the series based on true events and uncovers the largest ivory poaching ring in India.
In the video, shared by Prime Video on Instagram, Alia is seen in a state of shock, as she comes across a loaded rifle, bullet casings, and the silhouette of a lifeless body.
She is heard saying: “Ashok was murder reported at 9 in morning. Third murder in the month. His body was lifeless, mutilated. Ashok was just 10. He didn’t even see his killers. They might think they may get away with it but they won’t. Just because Ashok wasn’t one of us, the crime doesn’t become small because murder is murder.

The series highlights the contributions made by Indian forest service officers, Ngo workers from the Wildlife Trust of India, police personnel and good samaritans who risked their lives to investigate the largest ivory poaching ring in Indian history. How much weight do you put into a strong performance within a film that has its fair share of issues? Can a single turn lift up an entire project? Honestly, it really depends on the movie and the acting turn in question. Sometimes, it can be enough to warrant a recommendation, while at other times, it still falls a little bit short. In the case of this week’s new release The Kindness of Strangers, we’re faced with a similar situation. The flick is a mixed bag, though its ensemble cast is led by a wonderful performance by Zoe Kazan. In the end, she does manage to drag this one across the finish line, generating enough goodwill for a mild recommendation. The movie is a drama that takes its title largely literally. The lynchpin is Clara (Kazan), an abused wife who packs up her two sons Anthony (Jack Fulton...

Where to begin with a film like The Kindness of Strangers? Well, Lone Scherfig’s new ensemble romance, which inexplicably opened the Berlin Film Festival this week, is certainly not lacking in good intentions, nor is it lacking in mawkish sentimentality either. Indeed, as its dizzyingly sincere title suggests it is about as maudlin and hopelessly idealistic a film as one is likely to see in 2019, concerning a beleaguered and perfectly sympathetic mother of two who goes on the run from an abusive husband and finds goodwill in the most unlikely of places–and we’re talking unlikely in the most straight-faced of manners.
Strangers is the tenth feature film of Scherfig’s thirty-year career, a body of work that began on Danish television in the ’80s before having its crowning success with An Education in 2009, a film that rode the wave of Carey Mulligan’s mercurial breakthrough performance all...

Composer Andrew Lockington took a decidedly international approach to his music for the Dwayne Johnson actioner “Rampage,” including traveling to Costa Rica to record the sounds of wild howler monkeys and employing a Ugandan children’s choir.
He credits director Brad Peyton — his collaborator on four films including the 2015 hit “San Andreas” — with encouraging creativity and fresh thinking, as he discusses in this exclusive video. The score also features large orchestra, processed brass and ethnic percussion and vintage computer-game electronics.
The Canadian-born composer is best known for his epic scores for “Journey to the Center of the Earth,” its sequel “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island,” and the disaster film “San Andreas.”
At the Box Office, “Rampage” opened at No. 1 with $34.5 million from 4,101 theaters. In its second week, the movie is looking like it will claim the runner-up slot, pulling in $18 million. Internationally, “Rampage” has already earned $114.1 million.

For Rampage, composer Andrew Lockington went ape (literally).
Lockington used real monkeys for his score, a move that's appropriate, given that the Dwayne Johnson blockbuster's breakout star is George, a gigantic, albino gorilla brought to life by actor Jason Liles.
For Rampage, Lockington researched Polynesian rhythms and recorded gorillas, though it didn't go as planned.
"I read an article in National Geographic that discussed how gorillas hum. It was fascinating, so I decided to work with the gorillas and record them," Lockington tells Heat Vision.
Lockington wasn't pleased with the end result, but it led to another discovery.

Asa Butterfield and Britt Robertson star in new sci-fi romance, The Space Between Us. Here's our review...
Asa Butterfield and Britt Robertson play star-crossed lovers in The Space Between Us, a sci-fi romance which, shockingly, is not an adaptation of a novel by Nicholas Sparks or Stephenie Meyer. It's still full of the sort of contrivances that usually get explained away by some well-read fan as being faithful to the source material, but it comes from an original screenplay. However, when you realise that the screenplay was written by Allan Loeb, author of last year's feel-bad turkey Collateral Beauty, you might start to understand why it's utter nonsense.
In the not-too-distant future, 16-year-old Gardner Elliot (Butterfield) is the first human born on Mars. Raised by scientists and kept secret from the people of Earth by aerospace CEO Nathaniel Shepard (Gary Oldman), Gardner rails against his sheltered life and longs to...

Sony Music Masterworks has released The Space Between Us – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally and physically on CD. The album will also release on vinyl at a later date. The album features original songs by Ingrid Michaelson and the movie’s original score by Andrew Lockington (San Andreas, Percy Jackson: Sea Of Monsters).
The score was comprised of orchestral elements and salvaged items from junk yards to create unique sounds catered to the film’s story. This process of “upcycling” was in line with the film’s message about celebrating the beauty of our planet.
“I loved working with Peter [Chelsom, the director] and Richard [Lewis, producer]. They had a real vision as to what they wanted but also allowed me lots of freedom within that vision. It was a lot of fun to be a part of the movie from such an early stage,” remarks Ingrid Michaelson.
Order on Amazon Here.
The album is now streaming on Spotify.

We haven’t had a good old fashioned disaster movie in ages. The timing for San Andreas is interesting in that most Californians have stopped worrying about the big earthquake, focusing instead on the drought and/or the wildfires. But the seismologists have never stopped fretting that a quake, more devastating than the 1906 San Francisco event, is imminent. After several decades of “imminent” waiting, I can see how attention has wandered.
The Dwayne Johnson-led action film is a brutal reminder of just how much devastation is likely to result from such an earthquake. With CGI effects to enhance the imagery, this is a visual feast of destruction. And like every good epic in this genre, we follow the impossible efforts of one man not only to survive but to rescue his family despite the odds. As a result, the horrific reality is undercut by the muscular heroics. We know...

Composer Andrew Lockington scores Warner Bros.Pictures’ disaster thriller San Andreas.
Directed by Brad Peyton, the film follows a search and rescue pilot (Dwayne Johnson) and his estranged wife (Carla Gugino) as they make their way from Los Angeles to San Francisco to save their only daughter after the infamous San Andreas Fault gives, triggering a magnitude 9-plus earthquake in California.
Director Brad Peyton turned to Lockington, his frequent collaborator, at the earliest possible point in the film’s production. Peyton explains, “The way I like to build the world is to look at the tone and the music. For ‘San Andreas,’ the question was how to create an original, epic and very emotional score, so we just dove in and started playing around to find the themes and the vibe of this movie.”

The film also stars Carla Gugino (“Night at the Museum,” TV’s “Entourage”), Alexandra Daddario (“Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters,” TV’s “True Detective”), Ioan Gruffudd (“Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer”), Archie Panjabi (TV’s “The Good Wife”), Hugo Johnstone-Burt (Australian TV’s “Home and Away”), Art Parkinson (TV’s “Game of Thrones”) and Oscar nominee Paul Giamatti (“Cinderella Man”).

The Oscars are a little over two months away, and with so many fantastic films released throughout this year, the anticipation surrounding the announcement of the nominations next month is running on high.
So far, we’ve had the shortlists for the Best Animated Feature, the Best Visual Effects, and the Best Documentary categories.
Now the Academy has announced the list of 104 films that are eligible in the Best Original Score category, and it’s going to be very interesting to see what makes the final cut come nominations time next month.
I think Hans Zimmer’s score for The Dark Knight Rises is, hopefully, a lock, because it is amazing. I also loved James Horner’s score for The Amazing Spider-Man, but can’t decide whether or not I think it will earn a nomination.
Alexandre Desplat has three films in the running this year, with Argo, Rise of the Guardians,...

As far as I'm concerned, the two most memorable scores of the year belong to Cloud Atlas and Beasts of the Southern Wild. That said, I made an egregious and unforgivable mistake when filling out my Critics' Choice nominations and forgot to include not one of them, but Both of them! Shame. I feel it. Now I have to hope my fellow Bfca members came through where I failed. However, we will discuss Critics' Choice nominations more on the upcoming episodes of the RopeofSilicon podcast, for now we're talking Oscar as the Academy has released a complete list of all 104 original scores competing for Best Original Score at the 2013 Oscars. I have not yet posted my predictions for Best Original Score and while I am making a fuss above concerning Cloud Atlas and Beasts of the Southern Wild, I think both of those stand a very strong chance at a nomination this year.

Whether purposely sending a helicopter into the eye of a tornado or believing you are a real life fairy tale character, it seems that no matter what films oriented towards the younger generation may be about (or who my star in them), the music featured in these films is not only well done, it is also (maybe more surprisingly) impressive. This fact is proven most handily in animated films like How To Train Your Dragon (with a score composed by John Powell) and Rango (composed by Hans Zimmer) which had the kind of full-bodied, moving sound you would expect to hear in an Academy Award winning film rather than a movie aimed at kids. That’s probably why Powell got his first Oscar nomination for Dragon. Granted Powell and Zimmer are accomplished composers in their own right and regardless of the genre they work in, their music is sure to be impressive, but...

Blogomatic3000 recently had a chance to sat down with Amanda Tapping and Robin Dunne, the stars of SyFy’s hit show Sanctuary, to discuss the upcoming season and perhaps to plot the kidnapping of certain Hollywood elite. We’re not saying anything if Mr. Dunne doesn’t! Here’s the interview!
Aaron Mk: Sanctuary is coming to its fourth season – can you tell our fans a little bit about the season premiere, and what they can look forward to this season?
Amanda Tapping: Well the season premiere, again, takes place in Victorian era England. It’s almost a direct cut from how we ended Season 3. So we actually have, the first two episodes of the season are the conclusion to our season finale last year. And we had initially discussed doing them, sort of flashing back and forth between the two storylines, one in Victorian era England and one,...

Halle Berry in Frankie and Alice
Photo: Freestyle Releasing As far as I know I've never met anyone dealing with multiple personality disorder. I mention this because every time I see a movie involving the subject the authenticity of the performance is immediately called into question. Whether the character changes their voice or their mannerisms, or if it's the last act reveal I'm rarely convinced of such storylines. However, when it works, it really works.
Some of these types of films have managed to stick with me. I won't mention them by name for fear of spoiling their stories, but a convincing performance alleviates any concerns as it does in most instances. Frankie and Alice comes close to finding itself included on this list, but not quite.
Set in 1970s Los Angeles, Frankie and Alice centers on Frankie Murdoch (Halle Berry), a liquored-up stripper with a dark and buried past...

I don't believe I have ever reported the nominees for the International Film Music Critics Association before, but in the spirit of covering more award season news than is probably necessary I figured, "What the hell?" The nominees listed below make up the fifth annual International Film Music Critics Association Awards for Excellence with Wall-e receiving the most nominations including Film Score of the Year, Best Score for an Animated Film, Best Film Composition (for "Define Dancing") and Composer of the Year for Thomas Newman. If Scholastic had published the 1864 Jules Verne classic, it might have resembled "Journey to the Center of the Earth," a kid-friendly telling of the oft-filmed sci-fi yarn.
Shot implementing a 3-D process that's easy on the eyeballs and a lighter touch that ensures things don't get too intense for younger adventurers, this first feature by veteran visual effects supervisor Eric Brevig has its transporting, if benign, charms.
Granted the other-worldly excursion has that prefab, carefully calibrated feel of a theme park ride. The New Line & Walden Media presentation, which premiered during the weekend at the Los Angeles Film Festival, should play well with its targeted family demographic, especially in RealD-equipped theaters.
Where Verne's original novel started out in Germany and the 1959 James Mason-Pat Boone version was set in Scotland, the junior edition takes place in America (technically Montreal), where Brendan Fraser's Trevor Anderson is a college professor and expert in the field of plate tectonics.
Anderson and his brother Max also had been on the verge of a major geological breakthrough prior to the latter's disappearance in an expedition in Iceland years earlier.
Now, Anderson and his brother's teenage son, Sean (Josh Hutcherson), attempt to pick up his trail with the help of a pretty Icelandic mountain guide (Anita Briem) and a dog-eared copy of the Verne novel.
Director Brevig -- working from a serviceable if safe on the surface script credited to Michael Weiss and the busy team of Jennifer Flackett & Mark Levin -- keeps things moving along at a pleasant clip (with the help of a trio of editors) while coaxing amiably energetic performances out of his three leads.
He also manages to steer clear of most of those hoary, "comin'-at-ya"-type 3-D cliches in his use of the flexible Fusion System process developed by James Cameron and cinematographer Vince Pace, instead relying on the added dimension to heighten the hyper-real imagery, overseen by visual effects supervisor Christopher Townsend.
Wonder if he saved enough unused footage for that theme ride?
Production: New Line Cinema & Walden Media. Cast: Brendan Fraser, Josh Hutcherson, Anita Briem. Director: Eric Brevig. Screenwriters: Michael Weiss, Jennifer Flackett & Mark Levin. Music: Andrew Lockington. Editor: Paul Martin Smith, Dirk Westervelt, Steven Rosenblum.
