Go See It!
Most sequels have a tough enough job just living up to their first movie, and this one would have had a big enough job just being a sequel to the original Shazam! What director David F. Sandberg’s first movie had was the novelty of the story of a boy having the power to just speak a magic word and finding himself in his now adult “ultimate form”, plus the power of being nearly Superman’s equal (some would argue even more), a fun novelty super hero movie. The story also had the subplot of young Billy Batson’s quest to find his mother after having been in foster homes his whole life, only to realize that the foster home he is in has provided him with the family he really needed by the end of the movie. In the end, he creates the Shazam family,...

In Lisa Joy’s “Reminiscence,” “an analog noir” set in a sunken Miami of the future, Hugh Jackman — a navigator of memories with his Reminiscence machine — becomes obsessed with torch singer Rebecca Ferguson, and falls into a web of corruption and murder. It’s like a cross between “Rear Window,” “Vertigo,” and “Chinatown.” And the “Westworld” co-creator needed go-to cinematographer Paul Cameron to create a visual language for moving in and out of the Reminiscence machine.
“It needed a certain [holographic] reality, so the challenge for me was to create this illusion for the memories live on set,” said Cameron, who is currently directing episodes of HBO’s “Westworld” Season 4. “I had done a short film where I experimented with [a projection system utilizing] Halo Gauze material and a curved screen five years ago and it turned out well. I pitched it to Lisa and the production designer Howard Cummings and started testing with a...

Shudder has released another trailer for Greg Nicotero’s upcoming Creepshow series, which is based on the classic horror anthology film of Stephen King and George Romeo.

This Creepshow anthology series is going to offer some fun and horrific entertainment! I had the opportunity to watch the first episode of the series, which I really enjoyed, and I’m looking forward to watching the rest of them. You can tell that Greg Nicotero is having a blast making this series, which is a revival of the 1980s horror anthology films from George Romero and Stephen King.
As a big fan of those films, I enjoy how the series emulates those in its style, and you’ve gotta love the practical effects that were utilized to bring these 12 stories to life for our viewing entertainment.
We’ve got a new blood and gore filled trailer for the series for you to watch that teases the crazy terror-filled mayhem that awaits us! Enjoy!

Shudder's Creepshow reboot is bringing the '80s horror anthology back to life and the set has the bloodstains to prove it.
On the calendar behind Greg Nicotero’s desk, every day, from Jan. 7, 2019 through to today, March 28, is marked with a red “X.” The lines are big and emphatic, as though the writer put every last bit of his energy into striking them.
“It seems like yesterday was January 7th and now it's the end of March,” Nicotero says, sinking into a chair in front of the calendar. “There's been no time to even pick anything up.”
Production happens in a near constant state on the Creepshow set and the chaos on the cavernous Atlanta soundstage reflects it. Outside of Nicotero’s office, hallways are littered with rubber monsters and gory props. Two lifeless Nazi soldier dolls greet the production staff arriving on set, one bald and scarred,...

One of the many reasons George A. Romero's Creepshow continues to thrill and chill horror fans more than 35 years after its initial release is thanks to the makeup effects by Tom Savini (who also played one of the movie's garbagemen in the memorable wraparound segment). It's fitting, then, that Savini has been announced as the director of one of the episodes of Shudder's new Creepshow series, based on a story by Joe Hill, who played Billy in the film's wraparound segment.
Savini will direct an episode adaptation of Joe Hill's "By the Silver Water of Lake Champlain," working from a screenplay by Jason Ciaramella.

Horror movie icon Tom Savini recently revealed that he directed an episode of Greg Nicotero’s Creepshow horror anthology series.
During a panel at Monsterpalooza, which I attended last weekend, Savini revealed that he will direct one of the twelve episodes of Shudder’s upcoming series. The episode he helmed is based on Joe Hill’s short story, “By the Silver Water of Lake Champlain”, which centers around two friends who unexpectedly find a dead plesiosaur on a beach. He said:
“I just directed an episode of the Creepshow television series. There’s 12 [stories] altogether – each show will have two episodes in it. Mine’s a combination of Stand By Me, The Fog, and Jurassic Park. It’s really something.”
I love that he likens the story to Stand By Me, The Fog, and Jurassic Park. That makes this sound like it’ll be a great episode! Here’s a full...

When Showtime announced their lineup for their Masters of Horror anthology series back in 2005, one thing became clear pretty quickly: the show was going to focus almost entirely on American masters of horror. With the exception of Takashi Miike’s “Imprint” in season 1 and Norio Tsuruta’s “Dream Cruise” in season 2, the only episodes directed by a non-American are the ones directed by the great Dario Argento, the Crown Prince of Italian horror. And for those of you keeping score of these Italian horror designations, Mario Bava is the Godfather, Lucio Fulci the Maestro, Bruno Mattei the Fool. Everyone has their role to play.

Written and directed by newcomer Scott Feast, Process is – unlike the other shorts shown at the Grimmfest Northern Showcase – not your usual horror story. In fact, beyond dealing with the horror of living with dementia, this is an art-house style sci-fi fantasy sees an ageing off-world traveler, suffering from dementia, brought home to earth by his young companion as she attempts to inspire in him a moment of recollection.
Inherently different from all the films showing at Grimmfest, Process is a touching look at the effects alzheimers can have on a family – in this case a father and daughter who seemingly are travelling through space together on an interstellar “science expedition”, exploring barren planets and laying new plants in the hope of finding life. Bruce Jones' 'Coronation Street' exit caused him to spiral into depression. The 62-year-old actor - who starred as cab driver Les Battersby for a decade on the ITV soap, before he was axed in 2007 - has admitted his exit from the show had a dramatic impact on his wellbeing. Bruce, whose £500,000 Cheshire home was repossessed in 2010, explained: ''I didn't know I had depression. I just felt bad. A friend came in because he was worried about me. I'd been in my pyjamas for four days. I never moved. ''My wife got me to the doctor who wanted to give me...

Channel 5 has commissioned Celebs on Benefits: Claim to Fame, a show following stars who have found themselves relying on state support.
The likes of Bruce Jones and Lisa Appleton will appear in the one-off, hour-long programme made by ITN Productions, looking at celebrities who have had success before hitting hard times, reports Broadcast.
Bruce Jones played taxi driver Les Battersby in Coronation Street for ten years before a drink problem, divorce and growing debt forced him to rely on benefits. He later appeared on Celebrity Big Brother.
Also appearing is Lisa Appleton, of 2008 Big Brother fame, who married fellow reality housemate Mario Marconi.
She describes how she went from experiencing the celebrity that comes with a Bb appearance, to living in a flat she calls a "stinking, rat-infested hole".
The show will also feature non-celebrities who had promising careers ahead of them before losing everything and relying on benefits.

There is good news and bad news about Kriv Stenders’ neo-noir film Kill Me Three Times. The good news is that it’s fun to see Simon Pegg enjoying himself as a real scumbag of a hitman. The bad news is that if you’ve seen a handful of crime movies in the last 20 years, you’ve already seen most of what Kill Me Three Times has to offer.
Simon Pegg plays Charlie Wolfe, a contract killer we meet as he chases down and executes some poor sap in the desert. He’s hired to take out Alice (Alice Braga, Predators) for reasons not made clear at first, but when he shows up to do the job he discovers that she’s already been rubbed out by married dentists Nathan (Sullivan Stapleton, 300: Rise of an Empire) and Lucy (Theresa Palmer, Warm Bodies). They’re looking to cash in an...

We're into our third week of blind auditions now and when the coaches aren't giggling about Rita Ora making a fart sound on her chair or grousing about the Welsh Mafia which is apparently led by Sir Tom Jones, they're bashing their buttons pretty heavily indeed to add members to their teams.
In fact, six acts - Daniel Duke, Emmanuel Nwamadi, Esmée Denters, Joe Woolford, Liss Jones and Stephanie Webber - made it through to the battles, while we sadly had to say goodbye to five hopefuls. But who had the best audition? Here we go with our attempt to rank again...
1. Emmanuel Nwamadi
Song: 'The Sweetest Taboo' - Sade
Team: Team Ricky
Alright, we'll admit it - the minute Emmanuel said he was inspired by the Spice Girls, we were on his side (even if his choice of favourite song was frankly bizarre - 'Mama'? Really?) But we had...
