As My So-Called Life nears its 30th anniversary, Executive Producer Ed Zwick took a walk down memory lane Saturday to remind folks about working on the before-its-time drama that starred Claire Danes.
In a long X thread, Zwick shared an “origin story” about how he was first drawn to the work of Winnie Holzman before he would end up co-EPing her script with longtime producing partner Marshall Herskovitz. Zwick chronicles his work on My So-Called Life, as well as thirtysomething, The Last Samurai and Glory in his upcoming book “Hits, Flops and Other Illusions,” out in February.
“Kristy McNichol played ‘Buddy,’ an adolescent girl on ABC-tv’s Family,” Zwick began. “I’d write surly teenage dialogue and get network notes on my scripts with the initials N.O.B. meaning “not our Buddy.” I vowed someday I’d get to portray real adolescence.”

Based on the novel The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson, The Haunting (1999) was directed by Jan de Bont from a screenplay by David Self. The film has the following synopsis: This horror tale focuses on visitors to the secluded mansion of Hill House who have been called to the isolated location by Dr. David Marrow...

“The Morning Show” producers have lost a 44 million lawsuit against the Apple TV+ show’s insurance company, which they alleged refused to pay for coverage of losses due to Season 2’s Covid-related production delays. A judge dismissed the suit with prejudice on Thursday, meaning that the case can’t be refiled.
“Because plaintiff has failed to allege any physical loss or damage to property, no benefits were due under the Policy’s Imminent Peril and Ingress and Egress provisions,” U.S. District Judge Fernando M. The Morning Show follows the professional and personal lives of employees of media conglomerate Uba, specifically, its morning show hosts Alex and Bradley, with ousted anchor Mitch Kessler (Steve Carell) and news division president Cory, among others.
Picking up after the explosive events of Season 1, Season 2 found The Morning Show team emerging from the wreckage of Alex and Bradley’s actions to a new Uba and a world in flux,...

Season three of “The Morning Show” is set to go into production later this month. Jon Hamm joins as ‘Paul Marks,’ a corporate titan who sets his sights on Uba, pulling Cory, Alex and Bradley into his powerful orbit. “The Morning Show” is an Emmy, SAG and Critics Choice Award-winning series starring and executive produced by Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston, executive produced by Mimi Leder, and executive produced by Michael Ellenberg, and produced by the studio Media Res, Hello Sunshine and Echo Films. Don Draper is heading to Uba.
Jon Hamm is joining season three of Apple TV+’s The Morning Show.
Hamm, fresh from starring in Top Gun: Maverick, will play Paul Marks, a corporate titan who sets his sights on Uba, pulling Billy Crudup’s Cory, Jennifer Aniston’s Alex and Reese Witherspoon’s Bradley into his powerful orbit.
The third season of the drama series, which will see Charlotte Stoudt serve as showrunner, goes into production later this month.
It means that Hamm, who is nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Commercial as part of a sarcastic ad that highlights that he has never starred in a project for Apple, finally joins the tech giant’s on-screen family.

Jon Ham has joined “The Morning Show” Season 3 at Apple, Variety has learned.
Hamm will appear in the third season of the drama series as Paul Marks, a corporate titan who sets his sights on Uba, pulling Cory (Billy Crudup), Alex (Jennifer Aniston), and Bradley (Reese Witherspoon) into his powerful orbit.
In addition to Crudup, Aniston, and Witherspoon, Hamm joins a cast that includes Mark Duplass, Nestor Carbonell, Karen Pittman, Bel Powley, Desean Terry, Janina Gavankar, Tom Irwin, Marcia Gay Harden, Greta Lee, Ruairi O’Connor, Hasan Minhaj, Holland Taylor, Tara Karsian, Valeria Golino, and Julianna Margulies.
Hamm’s casting comes after Apple previously released a humorous ad called “Everyone but Jon Hamm,” where Hamm laments that seemingly every big-name actor has a project on Apple’s streaming service except him.

One of the most pleasant surprises to have arisen out of “The Morning Show” is Billy Crudup’s scene-stealing turn as cutthroat network executive Cory Ellison. The role has brought the actor awards galore, including his first Emmy nomination and win, which he earned for the Apple TV+ drama’s debut season in 2020. Two years later, he’s nominated again in the category from which he walked away triumphant, Best Drama Supporting Actor, for the show’s second season. “It’s just the gift that keeps on giving,” Crudup told Gold Derby in a new webchat (watch the exclusive video interview above). “Getting to play somebody that extravagant in a show with that kind of ambitions has already exceeded my expectations for almost any project, so to have people watch it and recognize it too is a great honor.”

The debut season of Apple TV+‘s “The Morning Show” ended with a bang as its finale sees the titular daily morning news program’s anchors, Alex Levy (Jennifer Aniston) and Bradley Jackson (Reese Witherspoon), expose the Uba network and its president (Tom Irwin) for their knowledge of sexual misconduct and the creation of a toxic culture. Although the second season exhaustively explores the fallout of these dramatic events, it took on a new shape after the Covid-19 pandemic befell the world in early 2020 and became the defining global health crisis of our time. “In a story about news, you can’t pretend like it didn’t happen,” “The Morning Show” showrunner Kerry Ehrin tells Gold Derby in our exclusive video interview (watch above) about the importance of weaving the pandemic into the drama’s second season.

FX, Lee Daniels and 20th Television are taking another stab at adapting Sam Greenlee’s spy novel The Spook Who Sat By The Door as a TV series after a pilot, written by Leigh Dana Jackson and directed by Gerard McMurray did not go forward at the network.
“We are working on a redeveloping of it,” FX Entertainment President Eric Schrier told Deadline Thursday during an interview tied to the network’s TCA presentation. “Lee Daniels is still involved, and they are working on it. We are reworking on the development side of it, we are not going forward with the current pilot, which Leigh Dana Jackson tweeted about awhile ago.”
The Spook Who Sat By The Door has been a passion project for Daniels who optioned Greenlee’s book in 2018 through his Inclusion Fund. A year later, the project was set up at FX with Jackson as writer and showrunner.

Apple TV+ shared a new trailer for the upcoming second season of “The Morning Show” on Monday, and the stakes are higher than ever.

Producers of Apple TV+'s "The Morning Show" have filed a $44 million lawsuit against the show's insurance company for refusing to pay for coverage of losses due to the second season's Covid-related production delays, according to documents filed in California federal court on Friday.
"The Morning Show" executive producer Michael Ellenberg filed the lawsuit against the Apple drama's insurance company, Chubb National Insurance, on behalf of his banner Media Res, the production company behind the Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon-led series.
The "Morning Show" production company said it had secured $125 million in cast coverage from Chubb, plus more for imminent peril to their shooting location. The company said Chubb is now refusing to pay the coverage it owes the production company -- which, according to the lawsuit, is $44 million -- over the production delays it faced in Season 2 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
