The horror (fictional) podcast is something I haven’t fully got into yet. But that is not due to lack of quality. The few I have listened too I have very much enjoyed – Video Palace from Ben Rock and Bob Derosa is the first that springs to mind – but I just haven’t listened to enough. I could start to right that wrong with The Timekeeper.
The Timekeeper follows 17 year-old Charlie and his friends who after discovering a co-worker has died, get sucked into a video game that may have caused the death.
There’s something about a horror audio drama when it’s made well. Listening on headphones, feeling fully immersed into the story. The sound production on The Timekeeper is great. You’ll hear things from one ear to another, you think you heard something quietly in the background, voices overlap one another. There’s some cool little sound tricks on display.

Project Name: 20 Seconds To Live
Asking For: $10,000 through Indiegogo
Amount Raised Thus Far (At Time Of Post): $8,960
Days Remaining In Campaign (At Time Of Post): 2
Description: Author Mark Laidlaw recent went viral when he proposed that any novel could be improved by making "and then the murders began" its second line. To see an applied example of philosophy, check out 20 Seconds To Die. Ben Rock and Bob DeRosa's short-form horror series counts down to on-screen deaths, and despite the strict nature of that format, the result is far from predictable.
Episodes of 20 Seconds To Die, which rarely last more than a few minutes, set up standard horror movie situations before starting a 20-second timer. As that clock counts down, tension builds, and by the time it reaches zero, one of the characters on the screen bites the dust. In the first episode of the previously-produced first season,...

Filmmaker Ben Rock (Alien Raiders, The Blair Witch Project) recently released a brand new webseries entitled 20 Seconds to Live which, as you may have guessed from the title, will feature someone meeting their untimely demise but in some truly unique ways. The first episode is already available here and the next installment of 20 Seconds to Live arrives this Friday.
Daily Dead chatted briefly with Rock about the series, teaming up with Adam Green and ArieScope for their release, and what fans can expect from future episodes.
Let’s start at the beginning—how did the series come about?
Ben Rock: Bob DeRosa is an outrageously accomplished writer for film and television, and he and I also do a lot of fun small theater projects together, mostly at Sacred Fools (where you came to see Baal five years ago and Taste last year). And when we put up one of...

Chicago – When “Killers” didn’t screen for critics, we assumed that it was because it was an insipid, horrid mess and that Lionsgate didn’t want to let audiences in on that fact before stealing their hard-earned cash. Watching it on Blu-ray, I was surprised that it didn’t screen because it’s not “Marmaduke”- or “Macgruber”-bad. It’s just shockingly boring.
Blu-Ray Rating: 2.0/5.0
“Killers” plays like three movies in one and all of them were woefully underdeveloped. In the first movie, a suave assassin named Spencer (Ashton Kutcher) meets the awkward Jen (Katherine Heigl) while she’s on vacation with her parents (Tom Selleck & Catherine O’Hara). The pathetic-but-beautiful Jen falls for Spencer and he leaves his life of murder behind for one of domestic bliss.
Killers was released on Blu-ray and DVD on Septemebr 7th, 2010
The shockingly-long second film features Jen and Spencer in suburbia.

I took a sabbatical last week, mostly since there wasn’t much hitting shelves worth talking about. Now I’ve returned to get hyped over pretty awesome movies. Hit the jump to see what’s hit DVD and Blu-ray in the last two weeks:
Grab ‘Em Right Away:
Stardust (Blu-ray)
Directed by: Matthew Vaughn
Written by: Jane Goldman, Matthew Vaughn & Neil Gaiman
Starring: Claire Daines, Ian McKellen, Charlie Cox, Michelle Pfeiffer, Robert De Niro & Mark Strong
Why Should you buy this? It’s the best fantasy action film in the last decade. Matthew Vaughn was able to take the style of films like The Princess Bride and bring it back for children of today to enjoy. It has one of my favourite De Niro characters of the last decade as well. It’s hard for me to put into words how much this movie makes me smile every time I watch it.

Killers Directed by: Robert Luketic Written by: Bob DeRosa and Ted Griffin Starring: Ashton Kutcher, Katherine Heigl, Tom Selleck, Catherine O'Hara, Rob Riggle The first fallacy of Killers is that Ashton Kutcher could play a spy. Yes, the same Ashton Kutcher that looks unsure if he's holding his camera correctly in the Nikon ads. The second fallacy is everything else. From top to bottom, the movie is just a structureless mass of contrivance and cluelessness, so ineptly executed and chaffingly unfunny that the awful-looking trailer actually oversells it. For starters, the courting of co-star Katherine Heigl is stuffed uncomfortably into the first thirty minutes, during which Kutcher plays it cool and takes off his shirt, and Heigl embarrasses herself by acting half her age. The character she plays is a grown woman apparently so embarrassed to be seen on vacation with her parents that she tells Kutcher on their first...

Prior to attending Sundance 2010, festivalgoer Bob DeRosa hadn't heard much about "Catfish." The modest documentary stirred up positive buzz going in, but certainly not on the level of such star-studded productions as the Ryan Gosling–Michelle Williams romantic drama "Blue Valentine" or the splashy rock biopic "The Runaways."All that changed after "Catfish," which focuses on a twisty online friendship, bowed to a packed crowd at the Library Center Theater. As the picture unspooled, said DeRosa, the growing enthusiasm in the audience was palpable. "It starts out funny, then moves to intriguing, becomes a full-blown mystery, and is ultimately incredibly moving," he said. "Before I knew it, we were part of a rapturous standing ovation."That standing ovation spread like wildfire through Park City, Utah. By the next day, buyers had begun circling and fest attendees were going out of their way to score tickets to sold-out showings. "I realized everyone was talking about it,...

"Grey's Anatomy" actress Katherine Heigl has signed on to star opposite Ashton Kutcher in the Lionsgate thriller Five Killers. We announced that Kutcher would be joining back in October, so this isn't the first time we've heard of it. Five Killers is being directed by Robert Luketic, of 21 and The Ugly Truth, and was originally written by Bob DeRosa (The Air I Breathe), with Ted Griffin (Ocean's Eleven, Matchstick Men) handling the rewrite. The story kicks off when a woman marries the man of her dreams (Kutcher), but their lives are turned upside down when they discover that their neighbors may be assassins hired to kill them. I'm going to be frank and say that I'm not that fond of Katherine Heigl. Why is everyone sticking up for her? She had a big break with Knocked Up, which I admit she was great in, but now every future project she...

As for Kutcher, he most recently starred opposite Cameron Diaz in “What Happens in Vegas.” The actor has two flicks in post-production: “Personal Effects” and “Spread.”

Lionsgate has recruited Ashton Kutcher to star in an action comedy titled Five Killers. The film will be directed by Robert Luketic, of Legally Blonde and 21 previously, and will begin production early next year. Lionsgate first picked up the project as a spec script by Bob DeRosa (The Air I Breathe), but Ted Griffin (Ocean's Eleven, Matchstick Men) is currently rewriting it. Kutcher will play a former hitman whose life is turned upside down because someone "from his past" paid a group of killers to bump him off. Sounds like the typical hitman bite-you-in-the-ass storyline, but we'll see if Griffin will make it unique. I gained a lot of respect for Ashton Kutcher after he starred in The Guardian; I thought he did a superb job in a challenging role. For some reason I feel like he's now got a grasp on strong emotional acting and I expect him to...

While I don't exactly call myself an Ashton Kutcher fan, this casting has been long overdue. Lionsgate has picked up Kutcher to star in the action comedy Five Killers.
Ashton Kutcher for Five Killers
To be directed by Robert Luketic off a spec script by Bob DeRosa, Five Killers will have Kutcher play a former hit man whose life is turned upside down because someone from his past has paid a group of killers to bump him off.
The twist is, the whole movie is just one big Punk'd episode...

Does babyfaced prank-puller Ashton Kutcher have the chops to play a cold killer? Not without a comic edge, apparently. The trucker hat-wearing cougar-catcher is starring in Five Killers, an action-comedy about a reformed hitman who has been targeted by a quintet of assassins, courtesy of an unknown person from his past. Perhaps a Punk'd victim. Or Mr. Goodkat. Robert Luketic (21, Legally Blonde) is directing the Lionsgate project, which started as a spec by writer Bob Derosa (The Air I Breathe) and Ocean's Eleven writer Ted Griffin is now taking a crack at the script.
