“Don’t you want to be an urban legend, Nat? All your friends are now.”
We heard from a friend of a friend of our roommate’s sister’s brother that there’s a killer on the loose at Pendleton University. Twenty-five years after administration officials swept a horrible tragedy under the rug, the current crop of attractive students are preparing to memorialize the dead in the most respectful way they can: by throwing a huge frat party. Sensitive Natalie (Alicia Witt) is trying to make a fresh start when her own painful past pushes its way to the surface. It seems someone is trying to send a message by murdering her friends and staging their deaths as urban legends. With the anniversary of the massacre approaching, Natalie has only her best friend Brenda (Rebecca Gayheart) and ethically challenged, but hunky reporter Paul (Jared Leto) to find the killer before...

If there’s one thing horror fans pride ourselves on, it’s knowledge of genre trivia. If there’s a second thing, it’s our Halloween costumes. We love the opportunity to dress as our favorite horror movie characters almost as much as we love showing off our intricate memory of cult classics. Any opportunity to combine those two treats feels like a spooky season miracle.
Classic costumes like Michael, Jason, Freddy, and Jigsaw will always be available, but sometimes you want a look that will help you stand out in a crowd. The following list will get you started on a deep cut costume sure to impress the hardcore horror fans at your Halloween soirée.
Lee – Bones and All (2022)

On Friday nights, IndieWire After Dark takes a feature-length beat to honor fringe cinema in the streaming age.
First, the spoiler-free pitch for one editor’s midnight movie pick — something weird and wonderful from any age of film that deserves our memorializing.
Then, the spoiler-filled aftermath as experienced by the unwitting editor attacked by this week’s recommendation.
The Pitch: Meaner Than “Mean Girls.” Hotter Than “Heathers.” Better Than Barbenheimer.
I feel like kind of a basic bitch recommending “Jawbreaker” for After Dark. Don’t get me wrong: Darren Stein’s fiendishly messed-up mean girl movie from 1999 is absolutely worth canonizing as one of the all-time great midnight movies, and generally speaking, I’ll find — and use — any excuse to rewatch this camp masterpiece faster than Carol Kane can say, “Be nice, girls.”
But it feels borderline obvious to suggest this bonafide cult classic and ode to candy-coated cruelty, widely...

The episode of Revisited covering Urban Legends: Final Cut was Written by Emilie Black, Narrated by Adam Walton, Edited by Victoria Verduzco, Produced by Lance Vlcek and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
The late 1990s and early 2000s were a period where horror fans either loved or hated what was being produced and released. For every new good film, there seem to be 10 bad ones. The genre felt like it was saturated, and a lot of films came off similar to each other. Scream started a self-referential trend in horror, one that went from mild references to other films to straight-up meta stories. One of the better-received horror films of the late 1990s was 1998’s Urban Legend. It played with stories everyone knew, and it was fairly brutal in its approach to killings. So, to no one’s surprise, it was followed up by a few sequels,...

Actor Ian Ziering is known best for his role as Steve Sanders in Beverly Hills, 90210, which ran from 1990 to 2000. However, he recently revealed that he could have been involved in a hugely popular reality TV series — American Idol. Apparently, Ziering turned down the chance to host the show. Here’s why, plus what he’s doing today and more info on American Idol‘s latest season.

When it comes to the golden era of slasher films, most will say it was the 1980s, but the 1990s are not to be ignored as they brought us an amazing bunch of films and some that redefined the sub-genre (including one that’s getting a fifth sequel this weekend). Here’s our list of the Best 90s Slasher Films:
Wishmaster (1997)
This one is considered a fantasy slasher, so it’s a bit controversial as to if it is a slasher or not. For this list, let’s consider it one. It’s fantastic and Andrew Divoff is 98% of why it’s so good. This film is his and he makes it the best it could be. His work is both charming and menacing, giving his character an aura that makes the whole film what it is. It’s creepy, it has great kills, and the cameos in this one are to die for.

A new episode of the Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie? video series has just been released, and in this one we’re looking back at the slasher Urban Legend (watch it Here), which – I am disturbed to say, as someone who saw it on the big screen back in the day – is already celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. To find out all about this movie, check out the video embedded above.
Directed by Jamie Blanks from a screenplay by Silvio Horta, Urban Legend has the following synopsis: A university is beset by a rash of gruesome murders that resemble old urban legends. When her friend Michelle is killed by someone hiding in her car, Natalie begins to notice the pattern. Her suspicions grow stronger when her own roommate is strangled to death. Soon the quiet college campus is transformed into hunting grounds for a maniac, and Natalie struggles...

It’s time for a new episode of our Deconstructing… video series, and with this one we’re preparing for this weekend’s release of the slasher sequel Scream 6 by looking back at the 1997 franchise installment Scream 2 (watch it Here). To see Scream 2 get the Deconstructing… treatment, check out the video embedded above.
Directed by Wes Craven from a screenplay by Kevin Williamson, Scream 2 has the following synopsis: Sidney Prescott and tabloid reporter Gale Weathers survived the events of the first Scream, but their nightmare isn’t over. When two college students are murdered at a sneak preview of Stab, a movie based on the events from the first film, it’s clear a copycat killer is on the loose. Sidney and Gail, as well as fellow survivors Deputy Dewey and Randy have to find out who is behind this new murder spree, before they all end up dead.

The new episode of our The Black Sheep video series doubles as a Christmas viewing recommendation, as we’re taking a look back at the 2005 horror comedy slasher Santa’s Slay (watch it Here) – which stars professional wrestler Bill Goldberg as a very unpleasant Santa Claus. To find out all about the movie and why we think it deserves to be seen by more genre fans, check out the video embedded above!
Written and directed by David Steiman, Santa’s Slay has the following synopsis: It turns out that Santa Claus is not really the sweet old fellow that we all know and love. In fact, he’s a devil and the only thing that’s kept his bad side in check was a bet he lost with an angel. After 1000 years of playing nice, the bet is up and Santa is about to open up a can of Whoop-Ass! The only...

Released just before Christmas 1996, the Wes Craven slasher Scream was a surprisingly big hit, and Dimension Films wanted to cash in on it right away. They rushed a sequel into production for a December 1997 release, with Craven back to direct and Scream writer Kevin Williamson working on the screenplay. But the Scream 2 (watch it Here) that reached the screen at the end of ’97 wasn’t the story Williamson had originally envisioned. When the initial script leaked online, Williamson had to do some extensive rewrites… and the Scream 2 we would have gotten from Williamson’s first script is the focus of the new episode of our Wtf Happened to This Unmade Horror Movie? video series. Check it out in the embed above!

Rebecca Gayheart and Eric Dane served up some family fun at the Malibu Chili Cook-Off. The former couple attended the food festival with their daughters Billie, 12, and Georgia, 10, on Sept. 4. Eric, 49, and Rebecca, 51, kept their looks cool and casual for the outing, with the Euphoria actor donning a T-shirt and shorts while the Vanished actress sported a white dress and a sun hat. They weren't the only celebrities at the star-studded cook-off. Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez—who recently returned from honeymooning in Italy after their Georgia wedding in August—were also among the attendees as were Adam Brody, Leighton Meester, Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson, Brian Austin Green,...

[Editor’s note: Spoilers follow for the plot of Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” novel.]
One of the biggest mysteries of Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” is whether Brad Pitt’s Cliff Booth murdered his wife, Billie. Rumors about his wife’s mysterious demise swirl around the stuntman, with Mike Moh’s Bruce Lee showing recognition when a crew member says Booth “killed his wife and got away with it.” But it’s only in Tarantino’s “Hollywood” novel, out now, which the director has described as a “complete rethinking of the movie,” that we get a definitive answer about what happened.
Cliff’s culpability for the crime has been hotly debated since the film was released in July 2019. Brad Pitt himself said he knew the definitive answer — that Tarantino had told him — and certainly characters in the world of “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” believe Cliff is guilty. Husband...

Thanks to the critical, box office and award-winning success of writer/director Quentin Tarantino's "Once Upon A Time In... Hollywood", actor Brad Pitt who plays movie stunt double, bodyguard 'Cliff Booth' in the film, is open to reprising his character for an extended episode, 'streaming mini-series', featuring new content and character backstories:
"...I look at a mini-series where you can spend much more time on characters and story and explore angles you don't always get to do in films", said Pitt.
"So much of these films end up on the cutting room floor because they just don't fit in that box.
"That's why I think it's interesting that Tarantino previously took 'Hateful Eight' and ostensibly repurposed it as a three-part series. It's almost the best of both worlds.
"You have the cinema experience that exists, but you can actually put more content into the series format."

Rebecca Gayheart, like many other actors in Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” was featured in a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it scene and nothing more. However, in the case of Gayheart, her character might not have had a lot of screentime but played a vital role in the film, as well as the debate surrounding the plot in the weeks since its release. You see, Gayheart played Cliff Booth’s (Brad Pitt) dead wife, who only appeared in a mysterious flashback that has been dissected by many film fans.

One of the most intriguing and mysterious characters in director Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” has to be fictional stuntman Cliff Booth, who is played by Brad Pitt.
While said to be stylistically inspired by actor Tom Laughlin in the “Billy Jack” movie franchise, Booth is an invention of Tarantino and Pitt, and is depicted as the loyal and deadly friend of fading television series star Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio).
Accused by multiple people of being a murderer, Booth is somewhat of an outcast in the universe of stuntmen, and is believed to have gotten away with killing his wife, Billie Booth (Rebecca Gayheart). However, the film is ambiguous on that front and leaves Booth’s alleged dark past to speculation.

Once upon a time in Hollywood…a Quentin Tarantino picture made a splashy debut at the summer’s end. Buoyed by strong reviews and featuring megastar (and previous Oscar nominee) Brad Pitt in a principal role, it delivered the prolific director’s biggest opening to date. It was overcome by sci-fi extravaganza “Avatar” at the Golden Globes. And despite an impressive eight nominations, it was defeated by the Iraq War film “The Hurt Locker” at the Academy Awards.

Because I’m old (or maybe I should go with “well-seasoned?”), I have fond memories of seeing Urban Legend on opening night in theaters somehow finding herself in the middle of the murder spree. And as her friends are offed one by one, it’s up to Natalie to try and put the pieces of the puzzle together and figure out just who is behind the urban legend-inspired massacre at Pendleton before she becomes another victim of the mysterious hooded maniac.

Both films look good, but you may drive yourself a bit crazy riding the volume button due to quiet dialogue cut with loud jump scares. More on that later. Released in 1998 and directed by Jamie Blanks, Urban Legend is a big-budget, glossy Hollywood slasher that focuses on the students at Pendleton University in New Hampshire, an elite school that's suddenly the site of several murders. The ensemble cast of Alicia Witt, Michael Rosenbaum, Natasha Gregson Wagner, Robert Englund, Loretta Devine, Rebecca Gayheart, Tara Reid, and Danielle Harris. Witt, who does her best here, stars as Natalie,...
