The Eyes of My Mother (2016)
Points for originality and good use of black and white but not much else
The Eyes of my Mother is like M. Night Shyamalan's The Lady in the Water: it gets points for originality but it botched up its execution. I cannot tell you how many times, in this films just under 80min runtime, I rolled my eyes and asked myself "why?" and "how"? Why is this character doing this and/or that? How has no one called the police? Where did that weapon come from because he was clearly not concealing anything? The lead has no character. Other than her being crazy. And any attempt at character is conveniently skipped over almost like the film is using its inability to write solid characterization by telling us to fill in the blanks. If so, this film never meets you halfway. Quite a slog, depite it only being 76 minutes. If I had to choose which was better between this and the directors follow up Piercing, I would still say this one because as dumb as it is, it's still trying to be original and its black and white does give it an edge is a better choice for this story over being in color, giving the film, aesthetically at least, a bit more life to it. Other than that, this film dog you-know-what.
Inrang (2018)
The first dud from Kim Jee-woon
This movie is a misfire. The plot is simple but it tries way too hard to be complicated. The characters are also pretty flat and the acting is wooden. These things make it impossible to really care about anything that's going on and thus becoming a joyless affair. The only good thing is the action scenes, which are a joy to watch even if the heroes always tend to just miss the leads. Only watch if you want to see everything kim jee woon has directed.
The Leftovers: International Assassin (2015)
Wow
Is it possible to rate something an 11? Because this deserves it. Best episode of one of the best shows ever made
Phantom Thread (2017)
Boring in a good way
This film is boring in a good way. Reynolds is so fussy that it drives Alma and us crazy, which makes the events that unfold great
Gone Girl (2014)
well made but disposable
6.8 twisty story but all it said was "abusive relationships and psychopaths exist"
Joker (2019)
Taxi Driver and King of Comedy for mouthbreathers
While its a respectable film, its not a masterpiece. Its kind of lame to be honest.
Oldeuboi (2003)
A Revenge classic
I first saw this when I was 14 or 15 and knew it was great even if i didnt get it. Second time noticing flaws and what have you. And the third time I loved every minute. The movies look at revenge is great and I like how extreme and over the top it is, because revenge as a concept is that.
Pulp Fiction (1994)
An all time favorite
My first favorite film. I've watched it 11 times and maybe 11 more. incredibly entertaining film with some of the most likable characters on screen
