Straight Outta Compton (2015)
Definitely Something Fishy Is Going On
I am noticing a pattern with all the 1 star reviews here. They all seem to be writing a line and then missing a line and then writing on the next line. Why would every 1 star review be written like that. It makes me think that there are lots of fake reviewers trying to bring the score down.
OK over to the review. This film is excellent in highlighting the behaviour of the good old American police and their treatment of young black men. It shows that people just want to get on in life and it should matter not which neighbourhood they come from. Unfortunately there are people in the US that are already at a disadvantage just because they happen to be born in a particular area.
This film has a very powerful message and deserves to be seen. The message needs to be heard. It has the power to reach out and touch everyone that goes out to the movies. Waken your senses and go see this film.
Gravity (2013)
Outstanding - Should win multiple Oscars
Not only is this a brilliant film but if you watch it in 3D it becomes an amazing experience. I have read some negative reviews on IMDb and I don't get it. If you want a 100% accurate view of space then you should watch a 3D documentary about space. If you want to be 100% entertained and be on the edge of your seat throughout then go watch this movie.
My wife and I went to see this and were mesmerised from the start. I found myself totally engrossed and felt as though I experienced everything Sandra Bullock's character experienced as I was taken on a journey I would hate to be taken on for real.
Go see this film in an Imax 3D theatre, nothing else will do it justice.
Ill Manors (2012)
Dark, Very Dark
I think the reason why some people are marking this low is because of the subject matter and not the quality of the film. Ill Manors has a message, and having seen first hand what we in Great Britain are becoming as a society, this film tries to cram the content of this message into 2 hours. This is Ben Drew's directorial debut. In my opinion, he has done a pretty good job especially with the blending of music in to film to tell characters back stories. Katya's story in particular is played out exceptionally in rhyme. The whole Soundtrack is very cool. If you decide to watch this, be prepared, some of it is very hard to watch.
Terminator Salvation (2009)
Absolutely Brilliant
I really cannot understand all the negative comments about this film. I am a fan of the Terminator series and truly believe that this film stays true to the original story and actually adds to it tremendously. Now we all know how rubbish T3 was and how utterly disappointing that was but the same cannot be said for this. I went into the cinema not knowing anything about what the film may contain and I did not read any reviews before seeing it. I loved it, and my wife, who is not a fan of the series, could not care less but did think it was good (not as good as I thought it was I hasten to add) so fans of the series may like it more. For all of you that have not seen this yet, go and watch it. You will not be disappointed.
Triads, Yardies & Onion Bhajees! (2003)
A Let Down
I had very high hopes for this film. It had won the best black and Asian film category at Cannes so i thought there must be something in it that warranted such high acclaim. I downloaded the trailer and viewing it made me even more excited about watching this film. The trailer was fantastic and made the film look like it was the best film ever made. I finally got the chance to view it at the Metro Cinema in Derby. I took my wife along with me. One of my best friends from school was one of the actors in the film, he played a character called Rocky. I had excitedly told my wife how good this film was going to be so you can imagine my disappointment when i finally did get to see it. I just didn't get it. The picture was grainy but i put that down to it being an artistic film. The acting was poor but i put that down to inexperience. The story was sketchy and by then i had ran out of excuses. It was so poor that i walked out before the film had ended. I never do that normally but i really was not bothered how this film ended as it would have made no difference to my overall opinion of it. If only the film was as good as the trailer, it would have been a classic. Sorry my friend, i'm just being honest.
