Eddsworld (2003)
Possibly the best web series ever
I'm a long time fan of Eddsworld (I began watching in 2009 I think) and I believe it's undoubtedly the best animated internet series I've ever come across. It involves very simple yet creative ideas, and the thought of something as basic as Eddsworld can be so well-received is astounding. It's inspired me to draw my own cartoons/comics and Edd is a true icon to me. I'm so lucky to have come across this before Edd passed away because the other animators' styles (despite being pretty awesome) can never match his. My favourite episode by far is "Spares" because of an awesome fight sequence in which the guys kill all of their clones. "Moviemakers", "WTFuture" and "Hammer and Fail part 1" are all equally brilliant too. Thank you so much, Eddsworld.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
Not what I was hoping for.
Batman is a fantastic superhero. Superman (in my opinion) isn't as good but his films are still watchable (except Superman: The quest for peace). When I heard that a Batman V Superman film was underway I was thrilled; I thought it'd be the best film ever to be released. However, when I watched it something felt wrong. The plot was all over the place and I've seen better acting in an episode of Hollyoaks. Maybe I'm just used to Christian Bale portraying the caped crusader because I thought Ben Affleck wasn't the type of actor to play Batman. Henry Caville is a decent Superman but he wasn't at his best in this film. It was sort of a joke to me. I found The Dark Knight trilogy much more enjoyable than this. Jesse Eissenberg is a great Lex Luthor however. He was a true psycho, similar to the undeniably great performance by Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight.
The Social Network (2010)
An undeniable masterpiece
David Fincher has stunned me again with "The Social Network". I saw the DVD cover several months ago and I thought that it would be just an abysmal attempt at making a good film. Then I saw Fincher's name and I had second thoughts. I bought and watched it that day and I applauded it after the viewing. I had never seen a biopic that interesting! This could be the only film featuring that sodding Timberlake I truly enjoyed! It taught me that anyone can do great things if you put your mind to it. I was surprised this film didn't have a 15 as its UK certificate seeing as there is a considerable amount of profanity and drug use. There was a lot of tension in the scene in which Eduardo falls out with Mark but it is undoubtedly my favourite scene in the film. Great job, David!
Trainspotting (1996)
Very well made and entertaining
Who ever said British films weren't worth viewing? Danny Boyle's "Trainspotting" is one of the best 20th century comedies out there. With a great cast like Robert Carlyle and Ewan McGregor, this will probably make you laugh (in spite of yourself, what with its dark tone) and also cry as there are some upsetting scenes. I found this rather enjoyable but be warned: There are lots of f-bombs as well as scenes of drug use that could disturb certain viewers. Of course it has its disturbing scenes, such as when a young baby dies of neglect and is seen later crawling up a wall, but all the same, the film is great overall.
#Horror (2015)
A fun family comedy!
Honestly, this is "the biggest laugh out loud comedy since the fault in our stars" says my friend. We watched this with some other friends and it is just atrocious. The opening credits are so fast we could barely even see the actors' names. Also, Timothy Hutton is in it, and his career has gone to the dogs recently. Also, some of the artwork on the walls of that girl's house like the woman with an egg for a face? What the Hell was that all about? It's supposed to have suspense and horror to it, but we just couldn't stop sniggering at the detestable characters. They're like... 12 and they act 18. How problematic for the viewers! We all wanted to punch them in their faces. I'm kind of glad that they all got massacred. Anyway, the film is almost pointless and is a pulp*
*Pulp (noun) = A shapeless, moist object.
Pulp Fiction (1994)
The ultimate 90's classic!
Tarantino, you genius! If you loved Reservoir Dogs, prepare to have a new favourite film! Quentin Tarantino blows us all away once again with 1994's "Pulp Fiction" with Oscar nominees Samuel L Jackson, Uma Thurman and John Travolta. Despite the scenes being in a mixed up time order, this is one every college student should have in their DVD collection. There are some scenes in which you can't help but laugh, even though a serious point in the film. I won't name any right now, because this is a SPOILER FREE REVIEW, PEOPLE! COME ON! But anyway, Pulp Fiction is sure to have you dying for more! The only thing I have wrong with this movie is Jules' Bible passage, which (despite being FRICKING BRILLIANT) does not appear in the Bible. But that doesn't matter, it's a brilliant film!
