Jawan (2023)
Not good enough
While I liked overall action etc, the whole film fell short to become a good movie. SRK was fine and other actors played well but the main villain was weak and dialogue delivery was not at all strong. Too much bloodshed and too much visualisation of death by hanging. Should have known better before taking kids to watch it. Also had lot ka touch from South Indian movie and it was weird to watch SRK doing those stunts. Overall not for family entertainment and definitely not for kids and those who can't stand bloodshed and nonsense killing. Story was not impressive either. Find better things to do than watching it.
Stay Close (2021)
Good but could have been much better!!
The show does have exciting twists and turns till end and kept me intrigued about the suspense. Everything started to make sense as plot was cleared up in last week episode. Some characters did great job including both Police officers but some like Cassie where slow and could have done better. In any case, I still think it was above average and worth a watch. Enjoy...
Clickbait (2021)
Kept me guessing till the very end...
Great mini-tv series! Slow pace but with all the twists and turns kept me engaged. Finished watching in just one weekend so you can imagine. Enjoy!
Victoria & Abdul (2017)
A gem of movie about friendship!
Really nicely done by both Queen and Abdul. Showcases a beautiful and yet unexpected friendship among two people from totally different levels in society. One is queen of UK and another is like a common man who no one knows about. Movie shows how two people can connect and find common ground to be friends and like each other despite when whole world around you don't agree or try to pull you apart. Shows it takes both sides to make a beautiful and strong friendship. Most of the characters played their roles nicely and it is worth watching.
Ready or Not (2019)
Full of twists and entertainment!!
Wow...what a movie. Didn't really expect the story would go like this at all. Also didn't decide to watch it expecting horror so it was nice surprise all along. Samara being lead actor was superb. In the end it showed if you are pulled into a strange-never-expected before scenario and that too life threatening then how you end up surviving speaks louder than amount of money one might have. It was scary and thrilling at same time. Worth watching for sure if you don't mind blood, darkness and dark comedy!
The Descent (2005)
Way better than expected...
Stumbled upon this movie while looking to watch something horror-like (different) and glad I did. For a change, like to watch movies on people facing unreal possibilities and challenges in life and seeing how their react and rise to the occasion. It is nicely done movie about adventures and life loss and how everything then boils down to who you are as a person and what life weight you are carrying on your shoulders. Lastly, haven't seen something like this regarding caves.... I was on edge of my seat all the time. Worth a watch if you like such movies.
Epidemiya (2019)
A hidden gem...didn't expect it to be so good!
I stumbled upon this show out of blue on Netflix as I was looking for something unique (after deciding not to watch around five other shows). It started slow but every scene and every episode kept my interest in it and I couldn't wait to watch more. Finished all 8 episodes in one weekend. Characters were so intertwined and complex that it made this non-zombie pandemic thriller even more interesting. Story was pretty unique with full of twists and turns especially last few episodes. Couldn't have guessed how the season would end. It was literally mind boggling...can't wait for next season and another amazing ride of watching this show!!
Messiah (2020)
Unique Story And Great Show but something felt missing...
I wanted to give this show atleast 9 out of 10 as I found this show pretty unique and with great story about a person who does his own things in his own way. But world gets attractive to him and his messaging and each individual feel connected to him and through him, their version of God. Intertwined stories among people from across different countries was interesting twist.
Each episode felt like something was missing (slow and character acting was not up to the mark) but it ended such that you feel like watching more and more. Now I can't wait for next season!
The Last Witch Hunter (2015)
Good watch...
I like action and the character that Vin Diesel builds around him in any role he plays, same happened here. Overall movie was nice and had interesting twists and I wish it had more meaningful plot and characters.
Fathers & Daughters (2015)
Fathers & Daughters Never Say Goodbye!
Amazing movie about the strong relationship between a father, who suffered so much but wanted to hold his daughter near, and her loving daughters. Crowe is one of my favorite actors and he did a fabulous acting. As father he did all he could. Won Pulitzer prices while being sick to ensure his daughter has the best in life.
Amanda did a great work as well as a daughter who lost her mother so early and didn't get all the love she deserved in her life. Movie is not just about just these characters but I felt it could be related to all those kids and parents who struggle in life and do not get chance to grow together. I can only say my eyes were wet in the end....
The Magic of Belle Isle (2012)
A Sweet Effective Portrayal about Companionship...
Frankly speaking I had little or no expectations from this movie when I chose to watch it earlier today. It was primarily because of Morgan Freeman and a couple of review I read here on IMDb - I decided to watch and I enjoyed this movie thoroughly. This is a great family movie with simple but touching story about an old writer finding solace and motivation from a family of young girls and a single mother going through their own challenges in life and trying to settle in new surroundings. As always, Morgan Freeman played an amazing role while everyone else did decent job including the dog.
Overall, very touching and subtle story with some interesting lessons to learn. Worth watching for sure!
Jobs (2013)
Not Bad But Could Have Been Much Better - A Missed Opportunity...
It was not a bad movie at all. Whoever came up with the idea to make this movie might have expected more or less from this but from my perspective the movie could have been much better than what it was. Steve Job's life was portrayed but movie had nothing new to offer about his life. After completely watching the movie - I felt as what was it. I remember reading about Jobs on Wikipedia and the movie seemed to have just covered things already known to people from such sources.
Now about the main character of the movie - Ashton Kutcher's acting was good and I think he did really well playing Steve Job's role - In some scenes, I wondered who else could have played this role better than Ashton and who else could have looked so similar to real Steve Jobs. But having said that, I also felt it was not really easy for Ashton to play this role. He looked trying so hard mimicking Jobs and looking like him. Overall, if he could have brought more depth in his acting, it could have been one of his best movies. Missed opportunity for him.
I understand we can not expect everything covered in 2 hours but I, as I would expect most others, would not have mind spending 30-45 minutes more watching if it could offer something more in depth and meaningful. Steve Jobs, considered to be one of most innovative person of the modern times, had his own ups and downs in life and mix of failures and successes. Movie seem to have covered much of known incidents from his life well but the way it ends - it seem incomplete. It could have been extended little farther into Steve's life and ended with something more sensible and meaningful.
Anyways, this is what the movie is - can not be fixed or modified. So if you decide to watch - you may like it. As we have seen in the past, people try making movies on famous personalities multiple times - I will look forward to another movie on Steve Jobs and wish that would be much better than this one. Thanks for reading this review!
The Great Gatsby (2013)
More Visual Less Impactful
Although I enjoyed the movie thoroughly, I wouldn't call it a great one. It was a nice movie set up in old times with modern actors doing a good job pulling everything together. Leonardo did a good job but I was not impressed by his acting at all. He is one of my favorite actors and maybe that's why i was expecting more from him. Having said that, I liked Tobey's acting and role more than anyone else's in the movie. He was, sort of, in the background in the entire movie - moving the story forward. Connecting the dotes and being there to help and be right was what he did well.
Visually the movie was spectacular. Cinematography was awesome and sets were worth watching. But somehow, intensity and depth was missing. It is like you're watching it and enjoying it but you're not in it. On the other hand - I liked the story, of course it is one of the great literature jewels, in general but not it's end. It was tragic love story which didn't end well.
You might like it or you might hate it...but overall worth a one time watch.
Prisoners (2013)
Intense Suspense and Thriller Where Every Moment Counts...
What a movie? I really didn't expect it to be that good. I was not aware of great reviews of this movie before I picked it to watch this weekend. So my expectations were not that high to start with but before watching it I looked at IMDb and saw great ratings this movie has received. So my expectations rose and I was sort of carrying a real time rating meter in hand - trying to push myself to rate it while I was watching it and really I could not find any moment where I would have given it 7 out of 10...hence overall 8!
Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal have both played a great role especially Jackman. I can say this is his one of the best roles. His acting is commendable - as a helpless and tired dad but the one who is ready to do anything possible (or even impossible) to find his daughter and he did all he could while facing push back from all people around him. He broke the rules for good and kept trying. Overall, awesome acting by all. Kudos to the director Denis Villeneuve and his entire team.
Very emotional and suspenseful movie which will keep your heart pounding all the time. You fight with hope and reality and in the end wish for everything to end well. To sum it all - A great movie worth watching...do watch and hope you enjoy!
Man of Steel (2013)
Usual superhero movie but a great one...
A good superhero movie with pretty much usual story of having a man (from earth or outside world) trying to save our beloved planet earth from havoc from negative parties. I was not expecting it to be that good but it turned out one of the nice movies at par with any good recent Marvel movie for example Iron Man 3. Special effects and overall acting of everyone in the movie are pretty nice.
Henry, Michael and Russell played pretty decent roles and did excellent acting. I never saw Michael in such a lead role and he did very well. Russell, being one of my favorite actors, as usual, played a nice role. Although he spent less time on screen, he did fine. Henry - the Superman - looked pretty much suitable for his role.
So overall the movie is pretty good and worth watching but it just made me think (as such movies always do) that how weak are we as humans. We all live on this planet called earth and really have no power to save it. We can claim to have all the power in the world - but whenever aliens come we find ourselves pretty ineffective and in end someone like Superman saves this earth from the damage. I always wonder what if there are such superpowers out there who are ready to claim this world but there is no such superhero to save this planet then what? But on the positive side - humanity has always survived and earth lives forever. Maybe it is just the way we think - we might be fine having challenges throughout the journey but in end everything should fall in place. Having said all that - again it is a nice movie worth watching. So relax and have a good time!
The World's End (2013)
A fun filled journey with friends turns unforgettable...
Pretty good movie with friends running around with a plan (well no plan) in mind and just trying to have fun time. Simon did a fantastic job leading the charge and driving the movie forward - with his laid back attitude, jokes with reflections of stupidity mixed with intelligence. Overall, movie would have fell short if it was not up to him. Just to be clear, everyone else did pretty good job too.
I mostly liked the first half when it was real fun watching all the friends pulling each others legs while remembering their school days and what they did. Second half was less interesting but it was not bad.
Overall, good comedy and worth watching.
The Heat (2013)
Good comedy but little too much sometimes...
Let me start by saying that I found this movie pretty hilarious in general. Much of what you can expect from a usual buddy-cop sort of movie. I gave it only 6 out of 10 for a reason which is - although it is funny, sometimes it feels little boring with everyone seems to be trying hard to make audience laugh. When movie starts both Sandra and Mellisa are able to heat it up and bring good comedy scenes but after a while it becomes rather repetitive and sort of boring. It is like bumpy ride where director and story writer has been able to mix some emotions with comedy. While Sandra and Mellisa have both played a great role, sometimes both of them looked tired and the required energy was not just there.
Overall, not a bad movie to watch!
Take Shelter (2011)
A Must Watch...
What a movie! When I picked this movie to watch this afternoon, I didn't really expect it to be that good. I would not say it was a complete thriller, suspense and horror but it was somewhere in between. A movie with subtle touches to variety of real life things including love, family, friends, fear, ignorance, and overall trying to balance everything one got in his or her life.
Michael and Jessica both have played a superb role in this movie. Especially Michael who seem be to the best fit for his role and I can not imagine anyone else playing this role better than him. Jessica has very well complimented him throughout the movie. Well done, both! Jeff has done a great job directing this movie and creating this master piece by getting the best out of the actors and adding a sense of fear and eagerness to find "what next".
Overall, a must watch for anyone who likes suspense, love and thriller and wouldn't mind a story rolling on its own in a bit slow mode. Have fun!
Admission (2013)
Good but not what I expected
I was really excited to watch this movie and was expecting it to be a real comedy. I did read the plot summary and found it interesting and with actors like Tina and Paul - movie has to be a good laugh. But Admission fell short. Although Tina and Paul played a decent role with others doing an okay job, the movie was pretty simple with no real comedy. Probably it was not meant to be a real comedy movie so my bad. On the other hand, the movie did touch upon some sensitive topics of real life i.e. admission to a college, how kids try to push themselves to over achieve to get in top schools, disturbed lives of people and how they try to survive in their separate lives. Overall, I would say it is a one time watch movie. If you decide to watch it, hope you enjoy!
Iron Man Three (2013)
Just Amazing...
You can judge from my rating (9 out of 10!!) how much I loved this movie. Watched it yesterday and and found it simply awesome. I have seen earlier sequels of Iron Man too and I think this was pretty amazing it not the best and most importantly i found it an advancement over others. The movie has a WOW factor especially in some scenes including the one in which he saves people falling from the sky. I also liked the idea of controlling his machines (probably the right word for those suits) that too not just one but so many by his brain. One of the movies where you can see it is not just actors but overall crew, technical team, designers and directors are making the movie great. Cast wise everyone played a pretty good role but there were two who stood out - one of course Robert and another Ben. Overall Superb Job and hope we get to see some more action, better movie in Iron Man 4!!
This Is the End (2013)
It was alright...
I was eager to watch this movie primarily because of its talented cast and promise of being funny. And yes it was but not to the extent I expected it to be. I could only find few scenes where I could really laugh. Not to mention, I really like watching Seth Rogen and Jonah Hill but somehow this movie's plot was not for them.
If you're expecting it to be very funny then lower your expecting and you'll probably enjoy it more. Some of the scenes were disturbing but that's okay since it is supposed to be a comedy. Some of the actors were really funny sometimes but some were like they've been forced to play their roles. Overall, i think the movie is one time watch with reasonable end. Go for it and hope you like.
