Iconic Film for Me
17 March 2006
To be honest, the only reason I'm commenting is because I remember seeing this film in the theater when I was six years old, and it made quite an impression on me. I was fascinated with robots (to an unhealthy degree!), and the "robot spelled backwards" really stuck with me.

I would love to see it again. It could be one of those "so bad it's funny" movies, the kind that were perfect for Mystery Science Theater 3000.

Having a robot who could think and had emotions is a pretty advanced concept for the age.

Classic Werid Funny

Warning: Spoilers
I can't count the number of times I laughed at this over-the-top movie. Yes, it's silly. If you're not in the mood for silly, then watch something serious. Three great actors: Jeff Goldblum, Geena Davis, Jim Carey. I voted just because I think 4.9 is too low, and wanted to bring up the average. I don't own a lot of DVDs, but this one is on my shelf. Bears re-watching.

There are many funny, filled-out characters: the pool guy, the fiancée doctor and both great. The girl friend hairdresser is okay. The disco scenes are a little lame, but I never liked discos.

The ending is perfect, too. Just when you think she's going to schmuck out, she saves the day my making the right choice.

The Aviator (2004)

Impressed
11 January 2005
To be honest, I've carried a negative impression of DiCaprio since "Titanic," and especially the disastrous "Man in the Iron Mask," so I went into the movie with low expectations.

I measure a movie by how it affects me in the days after. There are two things that really worked for me. First was the depiction of his torture and descent into his madness. Haunting. I'll never wash my hands and not think about it. Second was the way Scorsese put you in the cockpit, and captured the feel of being the Aviator.

The Cate Blanchett and Kate Beckinsale roles as Katharine Hepburn and Ava Gardner were incredible. Beckinsale in particular nearly knocks you off your seat with her Hollywood beauty.
