Berserk (2016–2017)
Don't be fooled by the reviews. I made a mistake by not watching this earlier.
2 May 2024
The 2016-17 season 2 & 3 of Berserk is nothing compared to the original from 1997. I think most animes, movies and music were are up in the zeighest of the moment and have a special element to them. The 'new' Berserk continues Gut's journey. The CGI is overly ambitious, but i think it's worth looking past it if you can see WHAT the creator/director is trying to portray. I have not read the manga. Maybe i should? All I can say is that it hit me in the feels towards the end. The introduction of new characters added an element of charm and there was a feeling of a wholeness. I do hope there's one more season. It's an anime that you will remember for life/

A brutally truthful depiction of divorce courts & misandry
19 January 2020
I saw a comment on another platform where someone said they were rooting for both Charlie & Nicole. Are you kidding me??? To have such a view just goes to show the blatant level of entitlement & narcissism among certain women. No its never OK to destroy a man's life . Had the genders been reversed the reactions would have been off the chart.

Hoaxed (2019)
Nothing conservatives don't already know but..
29 January 2019
I will give credit for this documentary ending on a positive note of calling for peace & unity. I also give credit to Cernovich for covering the 'Pizza Gate' investigation. At the end of the day it doesn't matter where you are on the political spectrum, there needs to be a return to basic fact checking & critical thinking. This documentary covers the issue of 'fake news' broadly, and the motivations of the main stream media and how long this has been going on for ie: Operation Mockingbird. My only irk is it does not go into enough depth on the issues it covers

The Martian (2015)
Borefest
3 October 2015
I had high hopes for this movie based on the trailer and adverts that I had seen but my god was I wrong. The movie was utterly boring. it is a cliché these days to say 'there was so much potential' and yes there was but there was not much to salvage. The casting was bad, Matt Damon has made a few decent movies but he is no Christian bale, he has very little variance in his character, i mean being stuck out there on another planet you would expect someone to be freaking out,but instead happy clappy Damon is saying he is going to 'science it'. Yeh i suppose if you are into science and the physics behind it you would be somewhat entertained. But from a cinematic point of view there was very little to be entertained by. Very little CGI , very little character development . It came off more as a B movie that you would be aired on TV.

The Simpsons: Every Man's Dream (2015)
Season 27, Episode 1
Average opener, trivializing divorce
28 September 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Hardly a season opener,I have been watching the Simpsons for many years now and this was a classic filler episode. There were indeed a few expected laughs here and there but I found it offensive. I suppose it is the stereotypical narrative that it is always a man's fault that a relationship or marriage isn't working when this is hardly a reflection of reality. Not to mention Homer ended up not having a place to stay. Yes,obviously this was just a 'dream' and there wouldn't be any continuity in subsequent episodes ,but if the writers decide to press on with more emasculating story lines and push more liberal views that damage the 'unity' of the dysfunctional yet beloved fictional family,I think I may just stop watching.

Boyhood (I) (2014)
A movie without a storyline
28 September 2015
I have no clue what I have just watched, this has to be the most pointless and forgettable movies of the year . Yes I get what the selling point of the movie is, it was a coming of age movie that followed a boy into adolescence over the span of 8 years. Yes this is novel and a producers deserve praise on this front. But there was literally no storyline.Don't be worried about spoilers either because there are bloody none. If this is the storyline's we make movies of these days, then i might as well just film myself over the span of a day going to work, star bucks and then returning home. But who the hell would want to watch such an uncompelling boring movie?. Well apparently the hipsters who gave this an undeserving 8/10.

San Andreas (2015)
OK disaster movie that was cliché at times
28 May 2015
I have seen some other reviews on here that 'get it'. Disaster movies are never re-known for brilliant acting or character development. It was no different with San Andreas. What carried the movie, like 2012 was the amazing CGI and of course if you are a fan of disaster movies, it provided a great deal of destruction and action.

There were indeed emotional parts and likable characters especially Ben and Ollie. However,I do feel Dwayne Johnson was far too one dimensional and boring. Another funny thing that acted as quite the distraction was the perfect selection of big breasted women Alexandra Daddario and Carla Gugino. This was there one redeeming quality and like Dwayne, they were one dimensional and forgettable.

Overall, I would recommended this movie to disaster movie fans, its along the lines of 2012, knowing..etc . If you are expecting academy award winning, Hans zimmer,/Christopher Nolan type of movie, then simply do no waste your time watching it .

Boring and pretentious
25 January 2015
This movies falls into those genres that are dialogue heavy. For such movies to be successful the characters and dialogue needs to be very compelling. Based in Italy, the backdrop was beautiful at times but hardly enough to carry such a boring and pretentious movie. It's like the Italian version of 'before midnight' except with no romance or plot line. Just two middle aged British men rambling on, going from restaurant to restaurant and making daft impressions This is like the Italian version of before midnight with no romance or plot line.I am not sure what the director was trying to get at. I think this could be a good movie if you are trying to get to sleep out of sheer boredom on a long haul flight but hardly for entertainment pleasure.

The Interview (II) (2014)
Decent comedy, that I would watch again
27 December 2014
Warning: Spoilers
There was a lot of publicity surrounding this movie, it's ironic to be honest. I think Kim Jong Un's attempt at censoring it and the media's coverage pretty much provided the ultimate marketing campaign.

The movie wasn't exactly a bag of laughs and some claim it was slow at times, but i reckon that the dialogue provided character development. If it was just American propaganda, why in the end when Kim Jong Un died would we feel sympathetic to him?. He was hardly built up as evil or strong but strikingly human. I also liked some of the fun parts of the movie, the tank , basketball scene and the use of the katy perry song.

Overall any movie that evokes some form of emotional reaction and is memorable is worth considering. The interview did just that.

The Croods (2013)
All around great family movie
9 July 2013
I have to say this movie is worth a watch for whatever age you are. It will be fun for the younger ones and even older adults. Basically this movie revolves around the age old debate of how to live your life, in fear cautiously(in the dark ie:the cave) or freely with courage (towards the light)?. Basically it may seem the girl EEP is the main character who basically wants to 'leave the cave' and become independent. But it shifts towards the end focusing on Grug who learns to break out his shell and fulfill his desired role better ,as the masculine protector of his family.

As it can be seen there are some interesting character development and relatable issues at hand. Nonetheless the Croods manage to blend this perfectly with a humorous and compelling adventure.I had quite a few laughs, it is a special movie and one I would recommended movie enthusiasts to purchase.

Man of Steel (2013)
I want to watch it again!
19 June 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Many people have their views on what makes a good movie but for me this is a masterpiece.Henry Cavill is the perfect character and very likable, he is a mix of Christopher Reeve but nonetheless provides the perfect blend between the old character and someone who fits in this day and age.

Honestly, what is most impressive with this movie is the CGI and fight scenes. Planes crashing, Skyscrapers being destroyed and a fight scene on a freaking satellite out of space. Trust me the avengers, dark knight rises or whatever movie you have on the pedestal cannot touch the raw action of the man of steel.

I will take my time to appreciate and savour this masterpiece again, because I was unfortunate that my friend kept adding silly commentary throughout the entire movie!.

I don't care what opinion critics have or people who incessantly need to bash the blockbuster movies, Man of steel brought to life my childhood hero and I want to give a big thank you to the cast and crew.

Taken 2 (2012)
Not great, Not Awful 6/10
26 May 2013
The negative comments are a bit too extreme. I guess this movie is living in the shadow of the first taken. First of all , the storyline was a bit shallow. In the first Taken, liam neeson going gung-ho and righteously being heavy handed with the bad guys felt justified . In this one ,Liam seemed like he was being far too heavy handed with the bad guys.

I also agree the bad guys looked and acted pretty stupid. It is almost a cliché in Hollywood movies to have bad guys swept aside easily. There was one credible fight scene towards the end where Liam was somewhat tested. There was nothing peculiarly thrilling about the ending.

I do feel the character development was lacking, Murads character needed to be stronger and his vengeance needed to seem more believable. I did like the scenery (In turkey) and action scenes (the car chase..etc). But the poor storyline and character development acted as a bit of an Achilles heel.

I wouldn't discourage anyone from watching it, overall good fun action movie to watch, One worth going to the cinema for or to have a movie night, but it wouldn't be a memorable one, More like one to pay tribute to taken 1.

Decent action movie with some good laughs
16 May 2013
Mixed feelings about this movie. The trailer does not match the movie hence I can understand why people are a bit upset, especially those who are into the tradition of marvel comics and want the characters and plot line to be congruent with what they have read.

I was expecting an all out action movie, Iron Man bringing to the table a new collection of gadgets, epic scenes and heroics. There was all that but not to the degree some would have wanted.I do feel like the bad guys the Mandarin and Aldrich Killian just didn't seem like 'real bad guys' or guys that you would expect to stand toe to toe with Iron Man in the finale.

Though what stands out is Robert Downey Jr's acting. I had quite a few laughs and the comedy played out brilliantly.Like I said fun movie but not one for the purist..

Oblivion (I) (2013)
Awesome movie with a good message
2 May 2013
Warning: Spoilers
I didn't watch the trailers for this movie hence I didn't really know what to expect. However, this movie contained all the elements of a good old sci fi movie that will have you on the edge of your seat.

I thoroughly enjoyed the storyline too, whoever is saying it is unrealistic, walk away and go watch some artsy fartsy b class movie from the sundance or whatever genre you enjoy.

On the surface level there is the usual archetype of the hero putting his life on the line and doing what is right. But anyone who has any taste of some of the conspiracy theories going around with respect to the elite (illuminati) backed by aliens to medal with and de-rail man. Well,This movie will really hit home and you will enjoy it.

Antichrist (2009)
disturbingly beautiful
17 April 2013
Warning: Spoilers
A lot of people have been left perplexed trying to find the true essence of of this movie. In terms of my interpretation ,it delves into our concept of good vs evil.Nature vs nurture, Lars Vontrier at the time of writing this was going through depression hence I can understand this dark negative thread throughout this movie.

In my opinion I feel like its goes to the heart of the debate what is evil and good. No matter how hard 'He' tries to make her see reason and rationality. 'She' spirals down into a psychotic mess.It is a battle between Nature vs Nurture. And basically this movie says in the end Nature always win.No matter how hard we try ,these animalistic drives (Sex,urge to kill, desires) we label evil will always be there and are the natural order.

We could go into an even deeper philosophical level to ask what is good and evil?, is there such a thing or merely mans attempt out of fear to control nature, the unknown, the uncertainty and this force the universe has on him.

I do not think women are 'evil' but I do believe they find it harder than men to break free from 'nature'( the uncontrollable),In the end he finally succumbs (like in the story of Adam and Eve).

In the famous story of Adam and Eve ,god gave Adam and eve the choice between self control or succumbing to their own destruction by focusing mainly on gratifying their hedonistic pleasure (the direction society is heading in btw) .As in the first scene we can see that she neglected her child because she would rather have sex. Also she was somewhat abusive to her child because of some deep dark wound inside of her.

Though I don't agree with Lars nature is neutral and we decide whether we succumb or make our own path.

Scaringly realistic in this day and age
9 March 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Are we going to act oblivious to climate change?. People are saying the storyline is unrealistic but look what has happened weather wise over the past couple of years. Even more scary was the part where New York got flooded.Something like that happened last year but obviously not to the same degree.

The UK experienced some of the coldest winters in the past 50 years during 2009 to 2010.I imagine people who are unaware of their surroundings or whats going on in the world would label this scare tactics.

Acting wise the movie was OK, but the whole premise with the north Atlantic drift changing has some scientific basis.go do some research.

Furthermore, why watch a movie and whine about it being 100% realistic, no one watches this genre of movie to experience excessively realistic plot lines because they are boring.
