Blue Steel (1990)
Surprisingly Bad
Unfortunately this film is unbelievably dissapointing. Thank god that Bigelow moved away from the art house nonsense that this film encompasses. But putting that aside I don't know where to start.
The plot is utterly rediculous and pushes belief too far.
We are supposed to belive that after when a perp is arrested they can simply talk themselves out of an interview without any questions at all about their whereabouts, ballistics tests etc. And on top of that the police officers testimony is utterly ignored? Wtf
The scene with Tom sizemore waving a gun around in the supermarket...the police ask only one person if there was a gun...they don't bother asking the others...so they assume the cop was wrong...wtf.
The female lead sleeps with both the the two main male characters...for...what...why? Wtf.
The bad guy is like terminator. He gets shot time and again...I think the army needs his body cause his resilience is absolutely super human.
The bad guy literally murders the leads friend in front of her and that's not a reason to arrest him. Wtf.
So time and time and time again we are faced with things that just make zero sense.
It's honestly dross.
A real shame cause I'm a Jamie Lee Curtis fan but omg this film sacked.
The Pope's Exorcist (2023)
Sorry Russel if you need money just ask dont do this
Firstly, unless you believe in reincarnation or are happy to waste the one life we have on this earth....spend it better than watching this film. So where to start with this? It starts off as a generic, if weak, story about an Exorcist doing well Exorcist stuff. There isnt too much too it there isnt anything new that we havent seen in a hundred other films. A family is introduced as they move to Spain. You could easily be forgiven for thinking that as these are the victims of a demon they would be fleshed out as characters...you know so you give AF when something happens to them. Well in this case you would be wrong. The family are merely vessels for the story...I mean demon to happen. What happens in the next hour and a bit is a downward trek towards utter garbage. While the synopsis may not sound too bad...believe me when I say it is atrocious. I'm not going to go into more details as I'm not a critic and this movie has taken too much of my life already. There are zero pay offs and dont expect any jeopardy.
Area 51 (2015)
Better than the rating suggests
This film is a pretty solid found footage movie. I have to concur with other reviewers and agree that the first hour could have been condensed into at most thirty minutes. That said it is important to see Area 51 for what it is and it is a low budget horror movie that relies on all of the stereotypes of found footage films including camera work too shaky for you to really see too much of what is going on, lots of people running about yelling, people who seem to value their camera's more than their own lives etc. Right, now that it out of the way, the film is actually quite enjoyable and pretty tense. It is clear from the get-go that the group are going to end up inside Area 51 so that is not a spoiler. How they do this is pretty clever in my opinion. The story is pretty interesting as it progresses. We have it all soldiers, men in black, scientists, aliens chases, the works. I didn't really care for any of the cast but as a piece of 90 minute no brain work needed entertainment I think it is certainly worth the time. A solid six from me.
John Carter (2012)
Massively underrated fun family action film
When this film was first released it became almost cool to condemn it as a disaster of a movie, the end of Disney etc etc. However, this is actually a pretty good and fun film. The story is pretty interesting with John been transported to another world where he finds interesting species, fascinating people and a range of cool special effect inducing action scenes. A modern classic this film is not but it is, in my opinion, a must see for all of the family. The film is fast paced, engaging and really thought provoking. So, if you want to see something different try this film and buck the trend against it. Go into it with an open mind, remember its a Disney film, and you will like it!
Munich (2005)
Excellent and disturbing story of an eye for an eye
Based upon the true story of the murders of 11 Israeli athletes and coaches by affiliates of the Palestinian Liberation Organisation following a botched rescue attempt during the 1972 Munich Olympics. The films tells the story of how the Mossad took revenge, tracking down and assassinating anyone involved in the plotting of the attack in an operation named Wrath of God. A small band of specialists assist a Mossad agent in his quest for revenge as he hunts down the members of the terrorist group Black September. However, things take a turn for the worse for the Israeli's when other groups start to hunt them. This leads to an amazing spiral into insanity and suspicion where sides become meaningless and everybody and everything is a threat.
A gripping film from beginning to end with some very convincing performances. A superb film which will have you in a moral dilemma.
