Time Lapse CGI Porn
29 April 2023
An exhausting indulgence of pretty but irrelevant visuals. Clearly the graphics nerd budget was many times higher than the research and education budget.

It contains teases of exciting data and uses, but almost nothing to explain how they came to the conclusions and what we can do with them.

As a bonus we get to listen to many people talk about how much they love the data and the mushrooms, along with an unnecessary review of our ridiculous drug laws. The rest of this paragraph is to satisfy the stupid minimum character rule that IMDB puts on reviews because the internet people apparently aren't long winded enough! 😊

NCIS: Los Angeles: Sundown (2021)

Good episode, except for the VA backlog trope
5 May 2022
Who doesn't love a good hostage situation? It's a good episode with a hostage challenge and a piggyback "I was framed" story.

My only beef, and it's a big one, is the writing regarding the VA healthcare. "With the VA backlog" they couldn't get immediate mental healthcare. That's PATENTLY not the truth. The VA has its scheduling issues at some facilities, which is why there's the Community Care system. But in no way do they allow a person with mental health or suicidal thoughts go without care.

I'm sick of non-veteran writers perpetuating this nonsense. Shame on you NCIS LA staff for not doing the research.

Great show, easy fun, and weird wardrobe choices.

Watching Alexa solve crime is good entertainment. All of the regulars are good to watch, and doing a fine job.

Please replace the wardrobe team. Exactly what is the point of all the long flowy overcoats Alexa wears every day? And when the episode is featuring the extreme heat as a plot point, why are the actors in layers and long sleeves? Please, costume designers, pay attention and use some imagination.

Topical and well-done!

This show has always grabbed ideas from headlines, and this episode was a great example of that. It's fun to get the best of corporate polluters, white supremacists and bigots, even if it's just on TV!

The Wonder Years (2021–2023)

Same concept, different perspective. Excellent!
24 September 2021
Whether or not everyone is willing to acknowledge it, how we feel and what we experience growing up is different for different people. If there was a Wonder Years reboot that was strictly the perspective of a young girl in this era, it would be different from both the original and the reboot. That's okay, because there's nothing sacred about the first series' story. It was nostalgic for some, and unrelatable for others.

I'm a middle aged white woman, and I have sometimes no similar experiences to TV shows or movies about people who don't share my demographic. I can still enjoy really good writing, really good acting, and a fresh look at a subject I thought I knew about. This is the case with this reboot. It's sharp, honest, smart, and a little heartbreaking, while conveying humor and love among the characters. I like it.

Good episode, lousy narrator
2 August 2021
The content is interesting and entertaining. I wish they wouldn't have chosen the phlegm-filled rasp of a chain smoker for narration. Very distracting.

Exaggerated and inaccurate VA portrayal
12 May 2019
My mother, brother, and I all have VA healthcare. Yes, specialist appointments do take a long time to get in, that's true. The more budget cuts there are, the worse that gets. But primary care in our experience is good, mine is better than any private insurer I ever had. I find that even though they're overworked and underpaid, the staff at the clinics and MCs are caring, compassionate people who want to do a good job. Except for that one guy in pharmacy that really pisses me off. :) BIG INACCURACY - saying they can't treat TBI because it isn't combat related. That's BS because that's not how VA healthcare works. You go in and get treated for whatever you have. I fell down a flight of steps in September and they treated the torn MCL that resulted. They didn't refuse my care because it happened in my living room. Veterans who never saw combat have VA health care, so I don't know where they came up with that crap. The VA can do better, but still does a better job than any other healthcare system would if working on such a moving target of a budget.

Four episodes in and it's pretty great
14 February 2019
Like the other reviewers said, it's a gritty little mystery in the mood of Broadchurch. I have been hooked since early in the first episode, right when I got past MCH's odd English accent. Once I could focus on the plot and characters, I recognized it as a compelling story with nice layering. Especially entertaining are the Marshalls. Their response to circumstances is darkly hilarious and bumbling. Nice little extra to avoid a monotone. Well done.

I wanted to love it, but alas, no.

Warning: Spoilers
***SPOILER***

This was a great idea. I looked forward to seeing David S in a good dramatic role.

The first few episodes were tough because it was pretty formula stuff with nothing new to offer aside from the premise. The organized crime and drugs is unnecessary and leaves little room for an interesting new drama around the struggle to open a restaurant in an unlikely neighborhood.

It's so unrelentingly tragic and sad that it is very hard to watch. But I hoped that once the restaurant opened we'd be given a break and some lighter, happier moments. Except I can't get that far. Here's where you lost me completely - the sex between Dion and Pilar. He has been a complete ass to her, treated her with no respect. She calls him on his FRAUD and he tries to kiss her? When she slapped him hard I was glad to show that a woman can handle sexual harassment in the workplace in her own, albeit violent, way. Then she has sex with him? Forget it.

I'd love for you to find a way to fix this. It will start with a new writing staff. Sorry, but it's just too unbearably dreary and unoriginal to love.
