Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: Subspace Rhapsody (2023)
To boldly go where no one has gone before.
I LOVE IT!
I love that Star Trek story keeps experimenting with different genres. Strange New Worlds brings so much more to Star Trek world, than its ugly predecessor Discovery. I love the crew, no one is stealing the show (Burnham), everything is really "Strange and new".
Experiments with genres is always difficult in tv series because people expect same drama, comedy or else in every episode.
Star Trek was different starting with TOS. We had fun with tribbles, we had our minds blown with "Taste of Armageddon", and we cried watching "The city on the edge of forever".
There were some iconic episodes in TNG and Voyager (sorry DS9, I don't like you), but nor Enterprise, nor Discovery made any attempt to be better than predecessors. SNW did. In all possible ways. We got drama, we got projections of modern society on the future, we got comedy, we got tears. Now we have musical.
Where no one has gone before. This show not only declares it, but does it.
P. S: Except La'an. She is very boring, struggling with war flashbacks it's just impossible for her to be head of security and also, it's impossible that so many hundreds years it's still not possible to treat such conditions. But that's something creators of new new generation star trek ignore. Just remember Discovery - we often see a man in wheelchair at the same time we see Airiam, who is basically a brain in robot body... Star trek needs more scientists to assist writers.
P. P. S: At first, I thought it's a great episode, now I think it's one of the worst. When you watch it first time, it looks fresh and new. But songs are primitive, music is very easy to forget and well... storyline... If you miss this episode, you won't miss anything significant.
Also, Christina Chong is great actress, but her character La'an is very boring, she suffered flashbacks in season 1 from Gorn attacks, in season 2 she suffers from flashbacks of romantic kind. So, 2 seasons, and she always suffers from something. Does she even have normal life? Whose idea was to put a psychologically unstable persona as a head of security? Parts of Spock/Chapel are good in terms of music. Sometimes I wish it were a music (not musical) episode. Music is good.
And sorry, but why Uhura spends almost half of episode in engineering sections? And why engineering looks like a hangar for Hindeburg with so much empty space?
So, story: 0 out of ten (there is no story)
Character development: 1 out of 10
Visual effects: Visually 10 out of 10, logically -10000 out of 10. Really, comms officer looks at random numbers on a screen. We already have AI and BI systems which present data in understable ways. So wee still show rays of random digits like in a... 50's?
Star Trek: Discovery: Project Daedalus (2019)
I want to give it a ten
In all ways it's a great episode with an emotional finale.
But there is one "But". Who is Airiam? Why should I care about her? She was almost non-existent in previous episodes. It takes time to bond with character, but I don't feel anything about her. At least there should be an episode in first season to tell us about main characters. There is also a lot of questions to how she was infected? If she was a computer, it's OK, but she was a human before. So how much of a computer is she now? How much of a human?
Direction of that episode is great, but screenwriters do not deserve anything for such poor story of a character.
Star Trek: Voyager (1995)
A great Star Trek series. At first.
I really loved that show.
A starship is thrown away to unknow part of galaxy, so you are free to make new storylines, new species.
At first it was so, but then watching some episodes I thought "Hey, that was in TNG".
The best part of series is Borg line and Seven of nine, who later reappeared in Picard.
But I can't forgive few things to this show:
1. Neelix. Ok for first season, but then he became the most annoying character in the entire universe, and in every episode, I hoped he will be excluded from the show.
2. The all that spiritual mystery with Chakotay. Really?
3. Children. In TNG they were in few episodes, but here they are almost in every episode. And they are super annoying. There was an episode, where entire ship has to be switched off, and it could be a great thriller episode, but it was mixed with Neelix and children. I still wonder what creators wanted to do with the show: a morning show for kids or adult show with ugly creatures, cruelty, deaths, and blood?
Teen Wolf: The Movie (2023)
WTF did I watched?
It is not a movie. I've seen fan art and stories better than that.
First - No Stiles. No humor.
Second - looks like it has lowest budget on planet. Almost all cast return, but they barely spend 3-5 minutes on screen.
Acting is plain, CGI is almost non-existent.
And a biggest plot hole - no story what happened between TV version and that one. There were so many years, their characters changed, but creators are not even trying to explain what happened. Script is primitive.
If you were a fan of TV show, please, do not make a mistake and don't watch this... "video". It's just a bunch of old friends who decided to make a cheap reunion with a script written while seating on a toilet.
Star Trek: Discovery: The Sound of Thunder (2019)
I saw it before
When I was watching this episode, I had a deja-vu.
One species is changing, another tries to kill it before they change, cause they feel they are in danger and are afraid of them.
Wait a minute... Star Trek: The Next Generation, Season 3, Episode 25 "Transfigurations".
Exactly same storyline, but without Michael Burnam.
The second season of Star Trek Discovery is best of all in this series, but I think it's mostly because it relies heavily on previous series.
Season 3 and 4 just showed, that writers can't come with any new ideas. Just put Burnam everywhere, add some fance CGI and episode is ready for cheap printing.
Legends of Tomorrow: Knocked Down, Knocked Up (2022)
Medium episode, extremely poor season finale.
Storyline is pretty basic we've seen it already.
And cliffhanger ending doesn't match with this episode closing entire Legends series.
3 characters are losing their powers, we get new absolutely stupid, useless and annoying character. If season 8 happens, I hope that new character will die in first episode, because he is so lame and basic.
If you want to say goodbye to legends on a positive moment - forget about booster gold and don't watch last 40 seconds.
Legends of Tomorrow: Too Legit to Quit (2022)
I am feel ashamed to give that episode a 3/10 but it deserves it...
A very-very weak episode, which tries to play on emotions a lot.
No action, a sudden plot hole with photo, good Gideon being unknown about future which she knows...
Looks like showrunners wanted this show to end as fast as its possible.
But at least from all other Arrowverse shows this will have a truly ending, like in a movie without possible sequels.
Still can't believe in that... After all these years, the best show on TV is gone... So sad.
Legends of Tomorrow: Rage Against the Machines (2022)
I really want Season 8 with the same writers
This season is almost perfect! And I really miss good Bishop. I want him to be part of the Legends. He was such a great character this season. He deserves to be primary character.
Overall, Legends are at their best. Best season so far. Dramatic, funny, best. And first of all, to other superhero shows - UNIQUE!!!!!
That's why Legends exist. They are a unique piece of art, which shows us new boundaries of TV shows.
Legends of Tomorrow: The Fixed Point (2022)
The BEST episode
I'm a huge fan of LOT since they were turned into a comedy.
And this episode is best of all.
It has everything - action, great humor, mystery, characters... So much fun to watch. Some nice storylines about relationships and very surprising guest!
Into the Night: Zara (2021)
I don't know what happened with the show
Season 1 was exceptional. Yes, there were a lot of plot holes and stupid twists, but it was interesting, and it is still a good season to watch again. And again.
Season 2 is so bad that I want to erase my memory. It is so bad that it can be used to measure how other shows are bad. It's bad. Very boring, very stupid, there is no logic, the plot holes are now black plot holes. They are so big that make entire series unwatchable.
Just don't watch season 2. Watch season 1 and use your fantasy about what could have happened in season 2. Don't watch it.
Legends of Tomorrow: Mr. Parker's Cul-De-Sac (2020)
I think it's one of the best bottle-neck episodes on TV
First, yes. For some reasons it's a bottle-neck episode with not so much CGI, but it's so funny, with e tear-jerking ending.
That's what I love about Legends - they are not afraid of exploring their boundaries, and even a bottle-neck episode can be turned into a masterpiece.
It's a great character development for Nora, and very pleasant appearance of an old villain.
All this is turned in a beautiful masterpiece of screenplay and direction.
Legends of Tomorrow: Stressed Western (2021)
Messing 4th wall as good as messing history
I really love that Legend's creators are not afraid of making experiments that become memorable even after many episodes.
Story with an alien is not so interesting here, but we finally got always positive Nates with his true speech about what he thinks about legends.
Constantine gets Annoying, and I think it is done on purpose, so viewers will love him less.
But after you finish watching this episode, the only thing that will be in your memory - a cowboy narrator. Another great moment, when Legends mess with 4th wall, just like they mess with history. Can't give this episode less than an eight, because I love legends and I love 4th wall jokes. But without cowboy it would have a 3 out of 10.
tick, tick...BOOM! (2021)
Quite good, but too much cameos, and not so good sound montage
I really love tick tick boom. Original album is one of those that I listen at least once a month.
After watching that movie, i have mostly positive feelings. With notices.
Yeah, acting is good. No, It's great, but when actors sing, I don't feel "soul" in their performances.
"No more" is a mess at all. Nothing shown on the screen matches Robin de Jesus lips. He played it great, but song sounded too soft, and well not synchronised with what is shown on screen.
And that Sunday performance...
I usually enjoy cameos in movies, but they could be made it less obvious. During that song only thing that was in my mind "Are those Broadway stars so broke that they agreed to do that? Do we really need them to be here all? And what is the purpose of putting Hamilton cast here? How are they connected to Larson's musicals? Where's rest of Rent cast? Are they too expensive? Oh well, that song has finished."
It's a good start for Lin-Manuel as a director, but the scenes should have more connections between them and not look like a party video playlist.
Legends of Tomorrow (2016)
WTH I'm addicted to?
"So you're saying you don't fit in? You are an outcast. A misfit... Sounds to me like you are a Legend."
What the hell I'm addicted to?
This show tells a story of a bunch of secondary characters from other Arrowverse franchise, filled with jokes, strange storylines and sometimes you just ask yourself - what kind of grass has the writers smoked.
And it makes it one of the best shows I've ever seen.
A show about freedom you have with time traveling that always have consequences, and same goes to writing of the show. From episodes in Arrow style (brutal, dark, and well... boring) to some episodes that represent one of the funniest jokes on TV, parodies and even breaking the fourth wall jokes.
You won't understand many tings if you haven't seen Arrow and Flash, especially in Crossover episodes, but still it's great fun to watch. It also gives a good character development of Damien Darhk, Vandal Savage. And damn, it is so good that you may fall in love with Damien Darhk! The story is beautiful. One of the best episodes - 100th where you can see how characters have changed since first episode.
This show is brilliant in storytelling, humor and the way writers explore their possibilities and ways of telling stories.
Legends of Tomorrow: A Woman's Place Is in the War Effort! (2021)
Unexpected
I really love this storyline, as Legends have no Waverider, but they still do what they do best - mess the history.
I love Gwyn and how his character opens with time, but Astra steals this episode.
Filled with social problems it also shows another side of Bishop, but not for long.
Great visual style, great history moment, still good humor, and very-very unexpected ending.
It looks like producers decided to give a good ending for this show, because this season is so damn good, compared to others.
Legends of Tomorrow: It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad Scientist (2021)
I really love that storyline. Too bad this is the last season
Nice jokes, great development of characters, and I'm really surprised to see new character played by Matt Ryan. He is really different.
This episode is also intense, you sit and wait, and in the end it's so much dynamic and suspense.
Also, there is a good development of relationships between Nate and Zari.
Can't believe that in a 2 episodes there will be one big final goodbye.
Legends of Tomorrow: The One Where We're Trapped on TV (2020)
Best of the best. Legends did a Truman's show episode.
This is one of the best episodes of Legends. To me - best of all. Great humor, some drama, and amazing visuals.
I immediately got all the connections to other popular TV shows, but one of them I got only after a few days: it's a Truman's show! The whole idea of life inside a TV show, the ending with going through the door...
Absolute perfection.
Star Trek: Discovery: That Hope Is You, Part 2 (2021)
Well, at least it's over
"Can anyone remember when we used to be explorers?" Cpt. Picard.
Well, season one of Discovery was rough, but... watchable. I really enjoyed season 2, there were good episodes, they made a brilliant connection with TOS and gave us great characters like Spock, Pike and Number One. Well, with then ridiculous idea of small costume that can do more than big tech-filled spaceship they leaf all these characters in past and took annoying Burnham into the future where she fights, cries, and whispers all the time.
Season 3 is absolute piece of rubbish and talentless writers.
They travelled +900 years into future but somehow recognize all technologies. The ship can still be hacked like a toy, so everybody can take control over it. Oh, wait a minute, we are talking about spaceship that was hacked with SQL code in season 2!
All CGI effects in season 3 are very stupid. Remember how in previous episodes they were using tiny corridors? No more, now we know that every spaceship inside is 99% empty with some strange sparks and air inside.
There are thousands of such strange decisions. Take season 2 - they use CAMERA to take a photo of a ship, but they can't read its name, so Burnham asks Saru to read it. They just can't zoom a photo!!!!
And entire STD (Lol) is about Burnham. Every other ST gave us great characters (except Neelix) with their stories, skeletons in closet and development. STD had a chance, but instead all officers are no-name. Well, they have a name, but you will never remember it. They are just a background for Burnham. I really love Jett Reno character in Season 2, but in season 3 her character has less than 5 minutes in entire season!!!!!!
Star Trek: Discovery (2017)
Season 1 was OK, Season 2 - Great, Season 3 - couldn't get worse
After watching all existing Star Trek episodes, I'm still very confused by STD.
Season 1 was a mess, but it had a constant storyline with a twist. Mistakes were made but they were noticed.
Season 2 was almost a masterpiece, connecting TOS and STD in incredible way. Ye, it still was mess in terms of character development, but each episode had a plot and very intriguing to watch next one.
Captain Pike and Spock were almost perfect. And I think last episode of STD has right to be called Star Trek Discovery.
Season 3: Here comes Star Trek: Burnam. There is no more Discovery. Well, It exists as a ship, but there are no more characters except Michael Burnam. Every single episode is about Michael.
P.S: There are many stupid things in that series. Discovery is hacked using SQL-injections (really? in a 24th century a unique starship can be hacked using 1990-s techniques?) or when Saru reads a photo because a computer can't magnify it, but his eyes can... Same happens later with sound.
Dear screenwriters, please, go away and leave your place for professionals, or at least Google it before putting it on screen.
Sing On! Germany (2020)
Third time's a charm, I hope
I watched that version after US and Spanish ones.
Host is almost invisible during competition. That's a big plus.
Contestants are still very different in terms of their voice, so you can easily tell who will win.
And well... songs in German sounds really great)
Episodes about 80's rules )
The Circle (2020)
Great concept, poor execution
First - I can't stop watching it again and again because it looks so much comfortable, neat and stylish. And I love the overall idea.
But I think that producers did nothing to break US mentality of friendship and etc and that made show very boring. Just look at French version, where they tried to break all these alliances to make game unpredictable.
US version is butter smooth, challenges are... funny, but they have no goal. Decorate cake anonymously? Seriously?
¡A cantar! (2020)
Better than US version
Pros:
First - host is much better than in US version.
I really like some Spanish songs.
Men are hotter (sorry, but that is important).
Camera is focused on contestants
Cons:
English songs are same as in US version, so if you watch it after US - you'll be bored.
Sing On! (2020)
Quite good for a background
Could be a 10/10 but I give it a 5:
Host is not funny. At all!
Too much talking, camera often shows more host dancing and grimacing, than actual contestants.
Starting from the first song, you will see that contestants are not equal in their singing abilities (and it goes to Spanish and German version too), so it's quite predictable who will win right from the first song.
The Circle Game (2020)
Best Circle of All!
I really like that version of all Circles! Many unpredictable turns, great characters, no fake love, great Finale episode. Much better than US version, real emotions and interesting competitions. I really miss that in final episode in grand room there were not enough time to see reactions from eliminated players when final 5 was revealed. I sooooo wanted to see them interacting with each other.
The Circle Brasil (2020)
Better than US version but still very boring
Well, almost all chalanges were about party, dancing and... party. Cast is very diverse, but... still there were no ordinary people. Almost every character is something on the edge, but I love progress that producers did in terms of challenges to break some alliances.
