Phileine zegt sorry (2003)
Better than the book? I don't think so
Even though the author of the novel (Ronald Giphart) has a cameo in this movie where he states that the movie is in fact a lot better than the book - this film is absolute crap.
I love Giphart's books, and Phileine Zegt Sorry is one of his funniest, but the adaptation is too slow, has too little funny moments to be a comedy, the actors are worthless (surprisingly, even Kim van Kooten's performance is below par) and the storyline proves to be too thin for a movie. And as usual in Dutch film, everything is covered up by lots & lots of nudity.
My conclusion: stick to the book and spend your money on some of Giphart's other novels instead.

3000 Miles to Graceland (2001)
Even worse than I expected
This movie only deserves credit for using more bullets than any other movie I've seen so far. And I've only watched half of it.
It is also a cinematographic disaster as it is too dark too see anything. Couldn't they afford some lights?

Ghost World (2001)
Not quite what I expected
This movie is not quite what I expected based on the imdb rating. Although acting is top notch, the story doesn't seem to be going anywhere. Maybe a sequel would shed some light upon where Enid's life is heading. I'd really like to know.
O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000)
Darn good there boy!
Oooohw yesh, this is one heck uvva movie. Mr. George Clooney plays the smarter one of a threesome broken loose from a chain gang. They're on a mission to collect 1,2 million dollars that he robbed. What his companions do not know, is that Clooney has a hidden agenda.
On their way to the treasure they meet various people who show the threesome what the values of life are. In a quite unconventional way, mind you!
The Coen brothers have made a beautiful movie that brings Mississippi of the 20's to life. Beautiful colors grace the white screen, while acting is top notch. Great movie, must see.

Ik ook van jou (2001)
Not so great adaptation of a great novel
When "Ik ook van jou" was released on dvd, I ran to the videostore to rent it. Having read the book by Ronald Giphart (I've read all of his books) I really wanted to see what they had made of it.
Sadly, the fun that is present in the book is nowhere to be found in the movie. What remains is the sad story of a romance between our protagonist and his highly disturbed girlfriend.
Having said that, "Ik ook van jou" makes for an entertaining night of television, just don't expect to much. Maybe the next adaptation of a Ronald Giphart novel will do better (Phileine zegt sorry).
