Pastor Brown (2009)
10/10
One of the best TV movies i've seen in a long time.
22 February 2013
Warning: Spoilers
When I heard about this film it was doing an interview with the film's director, Sons of anarchy alum Rockmond Dunbar. I said I have to check it out. I have to be honest, I am not the biggest fan of made-for-TV movies. Most of them are to cheesy for my taste. but I was pleasantly surprised by how good the film was. Jessica Jesse Brown an exotic dancer played brilliantly by Sally Richardson Whitfield returns home after her father falls ill. Her father's dying wish is for her to take over as head of the church. She honors her father's wish which does not sit too well with her sister, and the other leaders of the Mount Olive Baptist Church. I know from this description it sounds like a updated version of the prodigal son. Although there are similarities to the parable of the prodigal son I believe the film is so much more. The film is filled with familiar faces. Nicole Ari Parker who played Tonya Jesse's sister did a fantastic job playing someone who could be considered unlikable by some people. Michael Beach and Tasha Smith are good at playing butt holes. Keith David who played Pastor Brown was brilliant as usual. I can watch him read the telephone book. The rest of the all-star cast gave master class performances. I especially like how the film did not water down the gospel of Jesus Christ. The use of Bible Scripture in the film was well done. The film was well balanced with feel-good family entertainment, and real-world relevance. Pastor Brown was one of the best TV movies I've seen since Roots. I was thoroughly entertained and encouraged, and I think you will be as well.

You owe it to yourself to see this family comedy.
4 February 2013
Warning: Spoilers
I don't give spoilers. I want those of you who are reading this review to have the same experience I had when I saw this television show. Two weeks ago I saw For Richer For Poorer on the GMC network. I have to be completely honest and say that this television show was the best show I've seen since the early years of the Cosby show. The show is about a happily married couple who is struggling with their finances. Aubrey and his high maintenance wife Kia are forced to give up their high-end lifestyle after Aubrey loses his job due to his balls being investigated for embezzlement. This is an excellent comedy of manners. (Prison break) Rockmond Dunbar, and (Destiny's Child) Latoya Luckett are perfectly cast as Aubrey and Kia. I never knew Rockmond Dunbar was so funny. Latoya Luckett is a very good comedic actress. They are hilarious together. Angell Conwell did a very good job as Paige. Jackee Harry shows why she has been one of the funniest women on television for the past 25 years. (Martin) Carl Payne as Deshaun and Buddy Lewis as Carson are absolutely hilarious on the show. (Southland) Maya Gilbert as Jonesy gives a brilliant performance that you would have to see to believe. I can honestly say, I haven't laughed as hard as I did while watching For Richer For Poorer in a long time. The show is very well written. The story is inspirational. Oh this is a show you can watch with the entire family. I'm going to tell you the same thing I told my sister, you owe it to yourself to watch For Richer For Poorer..

A very good movie
7 January 2013
Warning: Spoilers
I am a big fan of Quentin Tarantino. I've seen all his movies from Reservoir dogs, True Romance, Pope Fiction, Jackie Brown Kill Bill parts 1 and 2 Death Prof and inglorious bastards. Quinton's dialog, is the best dialog in movies today. He is a master class filmmaker, and he will go down as one of the greatest filmmakers of all time. Last Friday, my sister and I went to see Djingo Unchained. We had a ball watching this masterpiece from Quentin. With the help of Dr. King Schulz played brilliantly by Christophe Waltz Jingo played by Jamie Foxx. A slave turned bounty hunter sets out to rescue his wife played by Kerry Washington from a brutal Mississippi plantation owner played superbly by Leonardo Deception. Samuel L Jackson gives a stellar performance as Steven the uncle Ruckus from the Boondocks inspired house N word. Django Unchained, is a violent, and hilarious spaghetti Western that takes place in the antebellum South during the time of slavery. Django Unchained is not a movie about slavery. I discovered, the harshest critics of the movie haven't seen it. Well, it's their loss. Django Unchained is the best movie of the year. Django Unchained is Quentin Tarantino and his best. Spike Lee needs to stop hating.

The Avengers (2012)
10/10
exceeded my already high expectations
5 May 2012
Warning: Spoilers
This review will not contain any spoilers. I want those of you who have not seen The Avengers to have the same experience I had when I saw the film. To put any spoilers in this review would be unfair to those who have not seen The Avengers. You probably wouldn't believe me anyway. I went into this film with very high expectations. Something that has never happened to me before happened when I saw The Avengers. The film exceeded my already high expectations. I remember the very end of the first Iron Man when Samuel L Jackson appeared as Nick Fury, then Robert Downey Jr. appeared as Tony Stark At the end of The Incredible Hulk, Samuel L Jackson was back and Nick Fury in Iron Man 2. . At the very he end of Iron Man 2 we saw Thor's hammer. Samuel L Jackson appeared as Nick Fury in Thor. At the end of Thor we saw Capt. America's shield. In Capt. America Samuel L Jackson played Nick Fury connecting all 5 films featuring 4 of the greatest Marvel comics superheroes of all time. Now Tony Stark Iron Man, {Robert Downey Jr.} ,Captain America Steve Rogers {Chris Evans}, Thor {Chris Hemsworth}, and The Hulk and Bruce Banner {Mark Ruffalo} are together in The Avengers. Nick Fury played by {Samuel L Jackson} brings all these superheroes together along with black Widow agent Romanoff {Scarlett Johansson} and Hawkeye {Jeremy Renner.} I'm in agreement with some of the posters who said that The Avengers is the best comic book adaptation ever made. The script was well written. The cast gave master class performances. No one else could have portrayed these characters other than the actors who played them. I was blown away by the special effects in the film. I became a kid all over again watching this The Avengers. This was an excellent movie. You should do your family and yourself a favor and see The Avengers. I guarantee you will not be bored.

Reed Between the Lines (2011–2015)
10/10
Pretty Good So Far
30 November 2011
Warning: Spoilers
I have watched every episode of Reed between the lines. I really like the show. It is a positive family sitcom about a family headed by two doctors Dr. Alex Reed is a NYU English professor, and Dr. Carla Reed is a psychologist. They have three children. Carla's twins Keenan and Kaci from a previous marriage, and Alex and Carla have seven-year-old Alexis together. oh, and the family just happens to be black. That will yes, remind you of The Cosby Show. Tracee Ellis Ross and Malcolm Jamal Warner have very good chemistry. The show is very funny. Tracee Ellis Ross is a very good comedic actress. And Malcolm Jamaal Warner is very good as the straight man. Ana Maria Horsford is very funny. Melissa De Sausa is funny. The show is well-written. Another thing I like about Read between the lines is how they are able to squeeze in a positive messages without being preachy. Reed between the lines does have its flaws. For instance, the blended family storyline needs to be explained better. I agree with one of the posters who said they could have found more seasoned child actors to play Keenan Kaci and Alexis. Other than those flaws. If you haven't seen the show, I highly recommend it.

Wizards of Waverly Place (2007–2012)
10/10
A very good show to me
19 November 2011
Warning: Spoilers
The Wizard of Waverly Place is a family sitcom about three teenage wizards. The show is a cross between Hannah Montana and Sabrina the teenage witch. I started watching the wizards of Waverly Place three years ago. I have to admit I am a little past the age of the normal Disney channel viewer, but I really like the wizards of Waverly Place. The show is very funny. The show does not talk down to kids, wizards is not law and order, or CSI, and it does not try to be. Selena Gomez is very good as Alex Russo a female Ferris Bueller with magic powers. David Henry is hilarious and has great comic timing and Alex's older brother Justin Russo. Jake T Austin is very funny as the dimwitted Max Russo. Jennifer Stone plays Alex Bohemian best friend Harper Frenkel, Stone has had bright future ahead of her in on television and in movies comedies. The parents are very good, although they don't have a life to do. I like how the show pays tribute to those fantasy sitcoms that came before it. Example the principal of Tribeca prep high school is named Mr. Larry Tate. Named after Darren Stevens boss Larry Tate on bewitched. They had a teacher named Miss Maj. Healey named after Maj. Roger Haley on I dream of Jeannie. There was an episode with a hand like thing from the Addams family. The difference is the Idol hands on wizards was a teenage girl. They made one reference to 1313 Mockingbird Lane. The address of the Munsters. It should be clear by reading this review that the producers writers and the cast recognize the shows that paved the way for them. The wizards of Waverly Place is a very good show if you have not seen it I highly recommend you watch it, and let the Russo family cast a spell on you.

Gidget (1965–1966)
My favorite Gidet was the 1965 TV series
30 October 2011
I am a fan of all the Gidget movies and TV shows. I have seen them all from the 1959 Gidget to the 1972 Gidget gets married, and the 1985 the new Gidget TV series. My favorite was the 1965 Gidget TV series starring Sally Field and Don Porter. The show was funny innocent, and heart warming. Sally Field was cute, perky, and adorable as the surfer girl midget. She was the best actress who play Gidget in my opinion. She is also the only actress who played Gidget to win three Emmys and 2 Academy Awards. It is hard to believe watching the show that it only ran for one season. I could not wait to get home from school to watch Gidget.

The Help (2011)
The best movie of the year
11 September 2011
Warning: Spoilers
I admit I never heard of the novel the Help written by Kathryn Stockett until I saw the trailer for the movie but help. The story of an aspiring journalist during the civil rights movement of the 1960s. She wants to write a book detailing the lives of African-American maids point of view on the white families they work for and the stuff they go through. Being an African-American man I was not interested in seeing a chick flick about white women and black maids. For the past 4 weeks I noticed that the help was either one or two at the box office. Staying number one for two weeks, so yesterday my sister and I went to see the Help. When we arrived at the theater I was surprised to see how packed the theater was for a movie that has been out for a while. We saw the movie at now I know why the movie theater was packed. I love the movie. The story was well written, the characters were well developed, the acting was first rate. Emma Stone did a really good job as skeeter. And I have one word to describe Viola Davis performance and help. Master class. Octavia Spencer did an amazing job in the movie. Bryce Dallas Howard did an incredible job playing a character that was not likable at all. Jessica Chastain did a really good job as well. Allison Janney, Sissy Spacek, and Cecily Tyson, added the iconic flavor to the movie. I have to admit there were some scenes in the movie that made me choke up, and there are some scenes that made me laugh, but I won't say anymore about that, besides you probably wouldn't believe me anyway. The help is the best movie of the year. This is the type of movie that wins multiple Oscars. And I can tell you the help deserve everyone of them.

A very good movie
12 May 2011
Warning: Spoilers
I went to a matinée showing of the new TriStar movie Jumping The Broom. I thought it was a really good movie. Two very different African-American families converge on Martha's Vineyard for a wedding. The Watson's are a wealthy family and the Taylor's lower income family. The culture clash is pretty hilarious. For those of you who thought this was another wedding chick flick, you could not be more wrong. This is not a chick flick. I know some of you saw the previews and thought this is another Tyler Perry movie like Why did I get married. Once again you are wrong. This movie is funny but not over the top. The comedy in this film comes out of situations that could happen to anyone. Another thing I love about this movie is these two families could have been any other race and it would still be just as heartwarming and funny. They just happen to be African-American. As an African-American man I am glad to see a movie with positive African-American men. Oh and parents you can take the kids to see this one. I also thought the cinematography was great writing was smart and humorous. The acting in this film was superb. Angela Bassett who in my opinion is one of the greatest living actresses. She gave a master class performance as she often does. Paula Patton was perfect as Sabrina the optimistic young bride to be. Laz Alonso did a really good job as Jason Taylor. It was good seeing him play a good guy for change. Loretta Devine did a good job as Jason's mother Pam Taylor. Loretta Devine is is the busiest actress in Hollywood. It was good to see Megan Good play a grown-up role. She is starting to stretch herself as an actress as you will see when you go see this movie. I was glad to see Tosha Smith play a character completely different from her Why did I get married character. I thought Julie Brown was very funny as Amy and this movie. Comedian D Ray Davis gave a solid performance playing someone a little different than we are used to seeing him play. I thought Mike Epps was hilarious and this movie. All I will say is Mike Epps is on his way to becoming a comic legend. The multi talented Valerie Pettiford gave a great performance as Aunt Geneva. It was good to see Romeo play a grown-up. He did a really good job. Brian Stokes Mitchell played Mr. Watson very well. Pooch Hall gave a solid performance as Ricky. Gary Dourban gave a solid performance as well. Jumping the Broom is funny, romantic, and heart warming. I thought it was a very good movie.

Tyler Perry's best movie
26 April 2011
Warning: Spoilers
I have seen all of Tyler Perry's movies and plays. Madea's big happy family is the funniest, and the best movie Tyler Perry has ever made. You have to excuse me I am still laughing as I write this review. Shirley finds out she has cancer. She want to get her 3 kids together so she can tell them. Madea set out to make sure Shirley' kids get together so she can tell. The result is heartwarming and hilarious at the same time. Some people have said why does Tyler Perry keep using the same characters, and all of his movies are the same. Well everything is not for everybody. His movies make between 25 and $40 million at the box office, so he must be doing something right. I like what the old folks used to say if it ain't broke don't try to fix it. Enough about that. I thought the acting was very good. Bow wow is growing as an actor he is going to have a bright future as an actor. Loretta Devine who seems to be in every Black movie these days was very good as well. I am glad to see a talented African-American actress working. I was glad to see Lauren London play a villain. This was a good role for her to play. She is another young actress to keep your eye on. Cassie Davis was hilarious which is something different than we are used to seeing on house of Payne. David and Tamala Mann showed why they could be one of the best comedy teams of all time. Teyana Taylor played Sabrina a character you have to see and hear to believe all I can say about Sabrina is OMG. Rodney Perry was surprisingly very good playing opposite Natalie Desselle who was very good as well. Isaiah Mustafa and Shannon Kane played their roles very well. All I can say about Tyler Perry as Madea and Joel without busting out into uncontrollable laughter is he was unashamedly outrageous. That's why I say Madea's Big Happy Family is Tyler Perry's best movie.

The Game (2006–2015)
10/10
My Favorite TV sitcom
6 April 2011
My favorite TV show is The Game the show revolves around football players, their families, their wives, and their girlfriends. I became a fan of the show when it was a spin off of Girlfriends. Joan Slaton's cousin Melanie moved to San Diego with her football player rookie boyfriend Darwin Davis. In the first episode of the show we meet the star quarterback Malik Wright, his abrasive, blunt, and brutally honest mother manager Tosha Mac, the frugal team captain Jason Pits. Jason's wife and leader of the sunbeams Kelly Pitts. The Game gives us a look inside the world of professional football players. One thing I like about the show is, the characters are not perfect they are just like you and me they make mistakes. The actors and actresses portray their characters with realism that is rarely seen in most sitcoms. Some posters have claimed about the writing, but for me, the writing is some of the best writing on television today for me, the acting on The Game should be required viewing in acting classes. I will admit, sometimes the story lines could be a little on the daytime soap opera side. If it wasn't we probably wouldn't watch it.

Princess Protection Program (2009 TV Movie)
PPP was better then I thought.
20 April 2010
I am not a teenager, but i love movies i heard about Princess Protection Program. and decided to watch it. I thought the movie was good. this movie was better then i thought it was going to be. Demi Lovato plays a 16 year old princess from a small country who is forced to leave her country to avoid being taken prisoner. by the ruthless general Cain. Rosie played by Demi Lovato is recued by a CIA agent and taken to his home. Selena Gomez is Carter the CIA agent's 16 year old daughter who he recriuts to help Rosie blend in as a normal 16 year old girl. with out giving to much away this a fish out of water story. This is one of the better Disney movies. Demi Lovato was adorable as Rosie, and Selena Gomez took a chance with this role, see at the beganning of the movie Carter was not very likable, but as the movie went on Carter played Gomez became as adorable as princess Rosie. Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato work well together. the story was good. the acting was good. Selena Gomez might the best actress of all the teens queens. now the movie is not very realistic, remember this Disney.

Tyler Perry best movie
11 September 2009
I just home from seeing I Can Do Bad All By Myself. Let me starting by saying. If you don't like Tyler Perry movies or plays, or TV shows you more then likely wont like this one either. I am going to ask you to go see it anyway you might come out of the movie theaters different then you came in. Now if are a Perry fan like I am you love this movie Madea catches 3 kids trying to rob her house, then she takes them to stay with their aunt April played by Taraji P Hensen, Taraji proves she can carry a movie. if it were up to me she would go back to the Academy awards this time she would win. yes , Taraji is that good in this movie. Hope Wilson gives a star making performance as Jenifer. Gladyce Knight was great in the this movie, Pastor Marvin Winans gives a great performance as the Pastor Adam Rodrigez from CSI Miami is a good leading man here. Mary J Brige is awesome as Tanya. Madea and Joe played by Tyler are very funny in this. Tyler Perry dose an excellent job on this movies this is his best movie.
