Not bad
14 January 2011
I will start by admitting I know nothing about the Green Hornet radio show, comic, etc. The Green Hornet was built up to be a funny action movie and while some of it was pretty good, (the last half hour especially) most of the jokes fall flat, and a lot of the action is over before it really has time to start. Some parts drag on (pretty much the entire middle of the movie) and the whole process seems to come to a stop. Maybe I hoped for too much after seeing the trailers? I don't know, but for much of this movie, I just felt bored. The main character isn't likable enough for us to even hope it all works out for him.. All in all, Green Hornet was kind of spectacular where it needed to be, though. Every fight (even the short ones) were done very well, and the whole setup feels like an arcade game. It was fun, but I felt slightly deceived by the trailers. Hopefully you won't.

Did others watch it before reviewing?
7 June 2010
I feel like most of the votes for Smokin' Aces 2 were given without an actual viewing of the movie. I'll admit, as soon as I heard there would be a sequel (which turned out to be a prequel) I wasn't happy, and wanted to rate it badly myself. I feel as though most people shared my sentiment, but rated the film without actually watching it first. I feel it's at very least in the category of a 6, with the original Aces at at least a 7 on IMDb. I suppose viewers just don't feel the way I do. Now, about the film...

Aces 2 was... different from the first film. Most notably, no real names here. Jeremy Piven and Ryan Reynolds are gone. It's a big loss, but if you consider Aces 2 to be a similar story without actually RELATING it to the first film, it becomes a lot more fun. Aces 2 has a style of it's own, different from the original. Where Aces 1 had smooth music and a flowing story, a style all it's own, Aces 2 has rock music and probably more swearing. The Tremors family appear again, but this time around, it's only Lester and a few others you could honestly care less about. The setup is entertaining, the shootouts are fair enough, and the humor (Tremors family related) is fun if you can get past the bizarre nature of it all. Aces 2 is far from realistic, and there are enough plot holes to sink a boat, but it really isn't a bad film. Certainly not intelligent like the first, but eh. Watch the film, don't relate it to the original, and at very least, WAIT for the ending. The final moments will make the entire film worth it, if nothing else.

Very Clever
5 June 2010
A Perfect Getaway wasn't exactly a new idea, but it was executed perfectly. Acting is great (Steve Zahn and Timothy Olyphant really stick out) and while a few aspects don't work perfectly, they don't slow down the film or get in the way either. If ever something isn't making sense, it is all cleared up at some point, and although it doesn't take much thinking to understand it all at the end, you may find yourself feeling quite intelligent just for being there and 'getting it'. Between the rated version and director's cut, I would suggest the former, as the director's cut will turn you off of the characters from the beginning, and leave you flustered. (The difference is some senseless nudity in the background, etc.)

Certainly one of the better PG-13 Horror Films
18 April 2010
This movie got bad reviews and isn't doing well in ratings because... I don't know. I'm not one for pg-13 horror films for the sole reason that they usually just drag on for 90 minutes and end with an off-screen monster attack or something along those lines. This is not one of those movies. I went in with the expectation above, and am now glad I was wrong. This movie is eerie, relatively fast-paced, and (in my opinion) pretty original. For much of the film, I was wondering how they got away with less than an R-rating after much of what was shown on screen. It's very well done, and feels like a modern-day Amityville Horror. (Not the LATEST Amityville... that was a train-wreck). Anyway, good speed, good cast, great story.

Great Sci-Fi Movie!
18 April 2010
I can't for the life of me understand why this movie is sitting at a 5.4 on IMDb. It's true that some of the dialogue is corny and there are some awkward bits, but it is original, fast-paced sci-fi action at it's best. Not since Shoot'em Up have I seen a film that started right up from the beginning and just kept going. This is not a movie for everyone, and you certainly can't take it seriously, but if you can sit through Crank and have a good time, you will love this one. Thomas Jane and Ron Perlman (as well as a few of the others) are a lot of fun to watch for the duration of the almost-two-hour period, and it's a bloody-good time!

No one should ever mess with a Tarantino flick like they did here.
7 August 2007
After seeing From Dusk Till Dawn, I had to see the sequel. Praying that it was as good as the original, I was poorly disappointed. This film stands alone from the first in the worst way possible. The bar from the original is now rebuilt, and looks completely different, and it's only shown for maybe a minute. Some scenes, involving some vampires (in the forms of bats) were the worst i've ever seen in a film. The amazing blend of story and amazing action from the first FDTD is completely absent here. The characters here are completely 2-dimensional, and all they do is try to swear in clever ways, which is more disturbing than fun. The only really enjoyable part of this entire movie was seeing Bruce Campbell in a funny little scene near the beginning. Watching this movie may actually RUIN the way you think about the original. Stay away unless you haven't seen the first, and still, it might be a massive waste of your time. Head to the 3rd From Dusk Till Dawn instead. it's actually fun.

A proud installment in the 'Romero' series
6 August 2007
Being a huge fan of Romero's 'Dead' series, I caught a viewing of 'Land' back when it was in theaters a couple years ago. I was not disappointed. LOTD is good, gory zombie fun at it's best. The character of Riley (Simon Baker) makes the film interesting, and as the movie progresses, you really want to hear more of his story. The dead learning to work together adds a nice feeling of tension to the atmosphere of the film, and that feeling only increases when Cholo (John Leguizamo), a scorned soldier for Kauffman, (Dennis Hopper) becomes a terrorist for his owed money. The cast is great, the tension builds nicely, and if you're a fan the genre, you'll just love it that much more.

Land of the Dead may not be the best film of Romero's Dead series, but from the opening 'till the end, it's a good time to be had.
