George A. Romero was so impressed with Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright's Shaun of the Dead (2004) that he asked them to appear in this, the fourth part of his "Dead" series, and they appear as the photo-booth zombies in the carnival/bar-room sequence. They also feature prominently in the artwork for the unrated directors' cut.

Land of the Dead is a very mediocre film to me.

First of all, the cast: my English Bulldog has more facial expressions than the lead actor (Simon Baker). John Leguizamo is overacting, and the rest of the cast is non existent. Asia Argento is trying to be sexy, but her character is pretty useless (because of the script; not because of her).

Dennis Hopper is underused ! Romero is lucky to have one of the greatest actors of all times on the set, and he only gives him like five lines of dialog...

A comedy that is not funny is a failure. What about a non scary horror film ? Well, you get land of the dead. Even people who liked the film seem to agree with me. No jumping off your seat tension; same old clichéd zombie attacks in the dark. Snyder's Dawn of the dead was much better in that regard.

Uninteresting characters + no scares = yawn.
