not so bad
12 March 2004
It isnt as bad as all of the critics were making it out to be. It wasn't as scary as I expected but there was just enough suspension for me to keep watching. some. The only difficulty about the movie is that your not really sure about who the characters are or "were" through out the movie, or if they really needed to be introduced at all. For the first 40 minutes of the movie I was puzzled as to what was going but eventually near the end the puzzel pieces seem to fit together. Much of the movie is based upon a sometimes un believable or non realistic view of reality bu essentially it is a movie worth watching if you haven't anything else to do. I give it one thumb up.

Very well done

Warning: Spoilers
Very well done for a Canadian film. The film captured the true reality of these children and women whom suffered greatly! Sort of disturbing to know that this is a true story. The only problem that I had with the movie was that I couldn;'t figure out what province they were in. *SPOILER* Roche and his family (if you can call it that) have french accents so there is an assumption this is where it is talking place. When the police show up to do their business they are in OPP cars yet when the movie is finished they literally blurt out that this happened in Nova Scotia.

god awful

Okay this movie has a big major flaw. The term overlord cannot be used when refering to a an EVIL creature from hell. I believe the correct term would be underlord. Maybe when they fix the name of the evil machine they can start to work on the awful plot line.

good and evil
26 October 2002
Warning: Spoilers
Okay, well my view and description of the movie do contain a few spoilers so be wary. I thought that Blatty's interpretation of good and evil was briliant. Using the vietnam vets as a way to execute the understanding of good and evil was, god or lack of was a ingenius. His belief that where their is evil there is good and vice versa was exceptionally creative.

There are some apsects of the movie that I found somewhat cheesy, this could be due to the fact that this film was made around the seventies. The bar room biker gang was cheesy especially there outfits and make-up.Also Blatty's incorporation of comic hero's left me somewhat confused and I believe this also to be a little bit cheesy

The other thing that struck me odd about this movie is that there are aspects or shots within this movie that are used in blatty's later films such as the gargoyles, the crosses, and the white man with shoe polish on his face dancing. Also most of the characters in this movie are also seen in his following movies such as the exorcist and the exorcist 3.

Two thumbs up. Blatty never ceases to amaze me

psycho babble
19 September 2002
alright,

anyone who has taken intro to psychology can figure this garbage out in a second flat. What psycho analytical junk this movie turned out to be. The movie works on the premise that it is actually trying to weave its way into the mind-frame of the psychotic Seymore, when in actuality the movie is superfically based and should be subjected to thorough critizim!

awfully constructed

Warning: Spoilers
I have never seen a movie quite so awful as this. Producers went too far, adding to much artsy understanding. The average person who did not attend film studies classes would not understand some of the lingo spoken in the movie. What was with all the lesbian action in the movie? Is that part of the film industry? C'mon! (SPOILER) The last couple of scenes, when the funky white man is rapping to an opera undertone is the worst and actually made me laugh. I was actually embarassed for that actor, whomever he was. Don't bother watching this movie, it's a waste of two hours.

the devils looking for who?

Okay, this movie was too in depth and required full brain concentration to even grasp what was actually going on. There were too many characters, too many different plots, and eventually the director tried to superficiously tie all the characters together in a weak finale. A greater understanding or explanation of voodoo is required before this movie can be truly understood and appreciated.

disturbing...
22 November 2001
I have never seen a movie quite as distrubing as this. The realism was a little to much for me. Throughout the movie I actually empathized with many of the charachters, even though I have never experienced anything like their situation. The mother's lonliness is apparent throughout the film and her emotional pain becomes pain stakingly obvious as each minute of her life passes. The son, his friend, and girlfriend's trip through the underworld of the drug culture was more than I ever could of imagined in my most horrible dreams.

I couldn't help wondering if this was the director's view of hell on earth. Once the movie was done I sat quietly and tried to forget the horrible images that were thrown to the audience.

apperently if a movie stirs this much emotion, you know that is masterpiece. I suggest watching it but, once viewed, you'll never want to see it again!
